    3:09 Can it be ran on 5.5v?
    The website says the voltage range is 7- 13v
    Will 5.5v be enough to get it spinning? My BEC only outputs 5.5v

    • @HardcoreRC
      @HardcoreRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What BEC are you using ? 5.5volts seems low on a modern BEC, normally expect to see 6v minimum on the BED, i run these on 6v and whilst not as powers as they would be on 12v they are way way way more powerful that the stock fans and stronger as well

    • @Lunarpollo5622
      @Lunarpollo5622 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HardcoreRC it's a flycolor 150a esc it only puts out 5.5v at 5A. However I managed to find a datasheet that confirms that the fan in the video will not start on it's own below 7v. Hey buddy,
    Great video, I made about 15 of these recently watching East Tactics video on this, great cheap alternative!
    Did you put any dampening between the mount to help with shock? And have these held up at all? I have heard of guys supporting the fans from underneath the center so the guts of the fan don't explode downward on impact....with a screw or somthing to support the center.

    • @HardcoreRC
      @HardcoreRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they are great alternative to the more expensive ready made ones. At first I was using some high density foam under the center to support the fan on the big landings, however then Alza came out with a bash mount that had the extra support built in. For the USA i asked a friend that had a CNC to design his version and make and sell them in the USA, since then it looks like others have also started making and selling them in ebay in the USA. This helped me quite a bit since my fan on my Hobbywing max 5 sh!+ the bed on me. I have a triple game changer fan setup that I bought a while back that doesn’t quite fit on the Hobbywing 800kv motor I purchased for my K8s build. I’m in the process of separating the three and modifying my fan shroud to fit the game changer fan I separated from the other two. Only reason I’m modifying the shroud is because I don’t have the sheet plastic to make an adapter. Hopefully it’ll hold up. Anyway, thanks for the video.

    • @HardcoreRC
      @HardcoreRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very good question, it does have 4 wires, so presume if you attached a PWM module it could work, the receiver and ESC only have 3 wire connectors, so would need the PWM module, although unless you just wanted to cut down the noise it would be a lot of work

      The max6 has a BEC that can handle up to 25 amps and run at 7.4v (as long as your servo and receiver can also run at 7.4v)
      From the Hobbywing web page: The MAX6 has adopted the world’s first HV built-in BEC with an

    • @HardcoreRC
      @HardcoreRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes this should save you a few bucks 👍 correct ESC fan can be plugged into the ESC, other fna plugged into receiver, or you can plug both into the receiver, i started using a Y splitter straight into receiver for the fans, then if i need to change any setting on the ESC i don't have to worry about unplugging the fan first.
      One thing to bear in mind is that running off the ESC BEC you are not getting full power on the fans, if your BEC, Servo and Receiver and run at 7.4v put it on that and will get better fan speed as well, but even on the standard 6v BEC the airflow is way more than stock and more than enough for general bashing.

Each to their own and i know lots of people have happily been paying $60+ for fans - me personally just think that is way over priced - $25 - $30 would be much fairer, especially when you can buy the fans bulk for like $2, the Heatsinks bulk are like $3

  • @EastTactics
    @EastTactics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hardcore, you have a great video here showing people how to get these high powered fans for cheaper, there's no denying that. However, I would disagree with your logic of saving money doing it DIY, vs simply buying it from say... NTF. Here's why..
    I actually calculate it will cost 76$ for someone to DIY this project. (asuming they have none of the items already in stock)
    Verses $60 from NTF.
    As you clearly point out in your video there's a lot more to it than just snagging the fan alone. You mention you need the fan cover, and the fan mount, as well as the braided wire cover.
    However, what you neglect to point out is the total price you spent for EVERYTHING in your in your workup, nor did you say anything about Shipping costs.
    For someone who is promoting “piecing this project together from scratch”, don’t you think shipping price is relevant since you most likely must get everything from multiple venders?
    You also neglected to bring up the pricing (and shipping) for the following items
    4 x M3 (35mm) Screws
    The JR connectors
    Heat shrink
    (optional) stylized m3 washers that NTF provides (mostly for look)
    Its also important to note, that if you are doing this project DIY, then typically you have to buy your miscellaneous parts in bulk, or in a kit which costs more.
    Is there a reason you do not reference anywhere in your video the actual out of pocket costs of the above items with everything combined including shipping?
    Lastly… the fan you purchased from Alli Express is actually a Different fan than NTF uses. The construction and quality are not the same. If you look up the Fan NTF uses (on Alli Express) Which is FFB0412HN, then you find that the average price is around $10 (15 w/shipping) for a single fan. So Quality is important here.
    So lets tally everything for this DIY project, and keep in mind the right fan, shipping, as well as the concept of labor put in, and for many of these items you can’t just buy 1 (or a few), you have to buy a kit, or bulk.
    Items you mention:
    Fan - (Correct Fan) = $10 ($15 w/shipping)
    Fan Cover and Mount = $16 ($23 w/shipping)
    Wire Braid (bulk item) = $5 ($7 w/Shipping)
    Items you didn’t mention:
    Heat shrink tubes (bulk item/kit) = $10
    JR Connectors (bulk item/kit) = $10
    M3 (35mm) Screws (bulk item/kit = $11
    Wow… that really looking more like $76 dollars now!
    You could argue that the fan you picked while cheaper is just as good, so I’ll shave off $5
    You could argue that some of these items, the typical person would already have on hand, so I’ll shave off another $15
    Your sill looking at $50 dollars, but now your stuck waiting on multipole venders to ship you material… which could take much much longer.
    Lastly… doing it DIY means your wiring up everything yourself which takes a bit of extra effort.
    Now back to NTF… is he worth it now? I would say absolutely… he charges 60 for everything put together for you, and shipping from one location. Not to mention, he adds flare to his fans as well. Two Carbon fiber, and two anodized sleeves for the corners of his fans… as well as aluminum counter sunk washer (for the top of his M3 screws) that add nice flare to the unit. All for $60.
    Compared to the DIY project with nothing “already in stock” for $76.

      To be honest i got bored once you started listing stupid prices, Dunno where you shop.
      Screws: 12p each
      Connectors: £2 for 20 free shipping
      Braid £2 for 5 meters and free shipping.
      Heat shrink: £3 for a box of 300 multi size.
      Any person in RC would likely have most of these already
      NTF Fan is only £4.78 with free shipping on Aliepxress: www.aliexpress.com/item/32344867706.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.71ec2620k8kO6r&algo_pvid=899dbb51-45bc-4677-8ae4-4fbbb060e277&algo_expid=899dbb51-45bc-4677-8ae4-4fbbb060e277-1&btsid=0b0a187b16019245793706569ecf21&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
      2 ESC mount and 4 Fan covers totals £56 shipped, so £14 per fan, less if just fan cover and the £5 heat sink
      So i can build them for £18.78 each and if you want to include the sundry parts then a total of £20.53 and i still have loads of braid, connectors and heat shrink left.
      I have been bashing the snot out of mine and not broken one, yet NTF failed on your first bash 😂😂 if one does go its £4.78 to change the fan
      At $35 NTF fans would likely be worth it, but not at their current price, why do you think there are so many making and selling these fans now ? cause the mark up is crazy

      @@HardcoreRC Most people prefer to do their shopping online. So tell me why are you neglecting to even bring up the shipping costs for the cover and the mount. That’s a pretty big deal to just forget about that. Considering for just those two items there’s almost an additional 40% cost. Also, tell me where you can get screws, a single pack of four, for that price and better yet why don’t you do your subscribers a favor (Who will be doing the shopping online!)and make an actual list of of “EVERYTHING” including shipping.
      I’m sure you can find some better prices.
      But ...still make the list. Your video could be a lot more helpful if it included everything.
      Since you’ve completed the DIY project, you and I both know that NTF IS not really that far off from what you spent. Or at least what others WILL SPEND if they don’t have a bunch of those items already in their inventory.
      Still you also have to consider that your audience is not in the UK, Shipping cost are going to vary. Most people might be spending considerably more depending on where they live.
      Still...You should update your description to show links for all the misc part. for example, even in your recent comment above, you re-link the URL for the Fan... but don't leave any clickable links for the Misc parts, such as the screws, the connectors and the heat sink materials. Im not saying cheaper places don't exist... but link them. (help us out)
      Honestly though...Your Video neglects to point out shipping AT ALL.
      Not to mention the hassle of shipping from a bunch of venders. who's ship dates might be all over the place, or the hassles of building the fans, cutting the connectors, and refitting them... to me and you thats a breeze. But some people don't mind paying a little extra for a fully put together product and some added flare in the look of thier set up.
      As far as my NTF fan breaking... drop a skate park video on your next run. Thats where I test.
      Long story short, to many people spending an extra 20 to save the hassle of having to buy in bulk and put the project together themselves is worth it.
      Im not debating that you can save some money doing this project DIY, in fact I made that clear in my video that you can order it from eBay... but there's connivence to going to one source (NTF).
