    Great video- brought back some fond memories of my trip there a few years ago. Just wondering if the video was from the pre-pandemic time as no one was wearing masks.

  • @mbud7577

    This video is not very credible. It was clearly filmed before Coronavirus. The current rules are that you must wear a mask for all periods you are outside your home or your own private car. As a foreigner, if you take off your mask at any time except when you are actually eating or drinking, you risk a $8,000 fine and then deportation. So you need to bear that in mind if you are planning on travelling there!

    • @akzmin3759
      @akzmin3759 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mask can be taken off during eating, drinking, jogging, travelling alone in a car and travelling in car with people living in the same household. The fine for not wearing mask is SGD300 and SGD1000 for repeat offenders.
      Last year few foreigners were fined for SGD9000 due to drinking and social gathering during circuit breaker period or lockdown. The penalty for such breaching of rule is SGD10K or 6 month jailed or both but they were fined 9K only and too bad were being deported. Not their luck but at least they were not being jailed. Tq

      @@akzmin3759 It is about a year since I last read this legislation / subsidiary legislation, but surely the reference to SGD300 is where a decision is taken by the police / prosecution to offer a 'composition' fine. That is discretionary, so I don't think you can say that is the standard punishment. Since this is a video about foreign visitors, it may be relevant to refer to the last such incident involving foreigners. At Christmas 2020, a group of foreigners were videoed messing around on a boat in Singapore territorial waters. Of those whose cases have been disposed of, I think the fine was $3,000 and deportation. But you're right - they weren't imprisoned. I take your point about events happening within or outside the so-called circuit breaker period (which I believe ended at the end of June 2020), but there is nothing in the legislation (from what I recall) to support that as an aggravating / mitigating factor. My young kids went back to school in July 2020 and were told in no uncertain terms that they would be punishment to the maximum extent of the law on a FIRST offence (i.e. 6 months imprisonment and fine of $10,000) despite not having left the house for 3 months and knowing nothing about the social distancing rules. One of them was 10 at the time. They both broke down in tears and refused to leave the house. The younger one is still afraid to go out for fear of being targeted and keeps asking us to leave the country - despite her being a Singaporean in the first place! But I think it would be great if the standard punishment is $300, with S1,000 for a second offence. That would be a move in the right direction. Hopefully, Singapore can return to being the kind of country it was before the pandemic.

    Singapore has not democracy, free speech, or independent judiciary. Its like Saudi Arabia.
