Thank you for summarizing the information in this video. A much needed guide for people. I have been a swimming all my life. And reading about cutting down carbs everywhere caused me to cut down it which actually affected my swimming and running. Only later did I realize that I need carbs to perform my best. And I only keep it to healthy whole foods, especially fruits.
For poeple out there worrying about health there are only a few things to remember and you will be avoiding most of the diseases. 1.Eat food closest to their natural form (by this i mean eat less processed crap or anything labeled that looks like a godamn chemistry table) 2.Drink more water (squeeze some lemon in it if you cant handle the blandness) 3.Exercise (Believe me just standing rather than sitting burns more calories) Simple right? Have a good day 😗
The three main contributors to modern ill health (obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, clogged arteries, out of range cholesterol) are seed oils, processed refined grains, and sugars. These make up the majority of the modern diet. It was for me. I eliminated them, switched to whole foods and fasting. All ills reversed or healed.
i eat a whole food plant based diet.this is further divided into raw food(fruits/leafy greens/nuts and seeds) and cooked food(legumes, grains, cassava, yams, etc,all whole and organic from my farm) as well as vegetable soups from leafy greens like bitter leaf, atama, waterleaf etc(africa is home to over a thousand leafy vegetables, the outside world has not seen). and this is the best part.i eat all of these based on mother natures menu, which is the fruits/nuts/ and foods in season here in west africa nigeria.i combine it with intermittent fasting. i dont eat refined sugar both hidden,or obvious,no dairy products whatsoever,no meat, fish,or animal protein.no processed sugar(this means i walk into a supermarket, mall or store and walk out the same way, empty.lol).i buy food from the local markets
Thank you for a calm, balanced and concise presentation. This kind of approach can only help moderate the current hysteria that could result in some people ending up on unsuitable diets. Everything about this was perfect!
Something specific about how to evaluate your metabolic type, and therefore what levels of carbs, fat and protein is optimal, would help. Nutritionists often say "everyone is different" but don't show exactly how.
It can be a little bit confusion. I'm 63 male, I was told to lower my cholesterol. I would be far from overweight. But a little bit of tummy in the front. But now I see That high cholesterol is not a bad thing. So now this is another take on carbs. looks like some are okay. I Must watch some more videos on this kind on thing on carbs. .
Thanks for this, you make excellent, informative videos. One thing I'd like to see is a guide on what carbs are 'good' and what carbs are 'bad'. It may be obvious but it isn't to me
It's not about which are good or bad like Thales said, but what they didn't mention is the speed that the carbs are absorbed into the blood stream are good or bad. Slower is better, faster is worse. With processed foods, you get faster absorption (candy, pastries, etc). With whole foods, you get slower absorption because the carbs are tucked away inside a layer(s) of fiber (nuts, fruits, etc). Slower is better because it doesn't spike your blood sugar. Just remember that whole food = single ingredient.
A good guide. By trial and error I've found i need to minimise gluten (only one slice of bread per day) and but also certainly eliminate dairy. Ethically I find milk products to be intolerable. Likewise fish. But i admit I still eat a little chicken and red meat, highly augmented with lots of vegetables. I find Indian / eastern herbs and seeds to be very useful flavour enhancers. Most of my meals are one pan stir-frys, here alone I eat out of the pan and minimise carbon footprint. Lots of leek, broccoli, potato, spring onion, tofu. No tomatos as these can exacerbate pain likewise bell peppers, also go easy on garlic and be aware tinned spinach longterm can create the sensation of gout.
At (4:15) where he mentions “if you have a lot of weight to lose, or have health problems like metabolic... probably insulin sensitive” I’m sure he meant “insulin resistant”...
Oh you are getting so close to saying it.... all the societies you mention that thrive on a high carb diet do so until they add one drop of sugar. Sugar is rare in nature, and before refrigeration and refinement was only seasonal, a signal for your body to store fat and prepare for winter. All the athletes that become pre diabetic and switch to low carb could stay high carb and heal themselves just so long as they drop all the sugar, assuming they caught it before too much damage took place. This argument also perfectly explains why the Asian countries were fine until very recently. If high carb fanatics embraced this fewer people will switch to low carb diets!
@ rotaryfork Those societies started eating a Western style diet. Besides sugar, that also means added refined oils, fast food, and processed food. Excess salt, oil, and sugar.
@Some Guy Good for you ! You found what works for you! I found that the exact opposite works for me , is a high fat healthy diet where my intake is 65%+ fats and limit my carbs to less than 100 grams per day usually much less . Diets are individualistic not one size fits all!
I’ve found the same. Basically, eating animals, fish, vegetables, and most berries and I’m good to go. I eat what comes out of the ground, and of which eats what’s coming out of the ground. Never felt better.
My best advice is, eat low carb until you get down to healthy weight range such as bmi chart and to reverse diabetes and metabolic issues. Then start eating whole grains again. Carbs=good mood and energy
I had started to think this way a couple of weeks ago. that it might be the best way to go so I added more carbs and yes it is proper for me thanks for the confirmation
Other than fried in oil, potatoes are very healthful, as long as you include the peel, and avoid adding butter, fatty gravy, etc. Sweet potatoes especially so. I make mine with the microwave, and air fryer. Great in soups, for example.
If you are a healthy person with no health problems you should continue eating your carbs? diabetes may be waiting for you around the corner and it's going to be too late.
Diabetes is not caused by carbohydrate intake. Type 2 diabetes is characterised by insulin resistance which is mostly caused high fat intake. When consuming a high fat meal, the fat enters the blood stream first, and the liver and muscle cells are forced to let fatty acids inside. This results in the cells being less insulin sensitive, they take up less glucose and thus, glucose stays in the blood. All fat cause insulin resistance, but trans and saturated fats are worse than the unsaturated fats.
@@omed.h712 you can eat bread. Looking at glycemic load (which has little to do with the cause of diabetes) and insulin load of different grain products, here are my tips: - prefer whole grain over white - prefer pasta over bread - prefer intact grains of pasta - eat high glycemic meals for breakfast, rather than for dinner - low glycemic dinner could be intact grains, legumes and veggies
I like that you draw a distinction between healthy and unhealthy lifestyles instead of assuming everyone is unhealthy.
different strokes for different folks

Craig Hill complex carbs are good carbs. Just Google it.
Carbs are carbs which are just strings of sugars and the blood stream can only tolerate 4 grams total. So either it is burnt off or stored as fat!

My sugar got too low with a low-carb diet, so I started eating healthy carbs like pears and apple. It didn't really affect my blood sugar.
I'm on low carb/good carb high protein diet

If you look at the elemental composition of the body, carbohydrates (whole) have elements we need. The Keto diet are for storage facilities.
french people are proof that carbs can be good if non processed and homecooked haha
