    It is kinda disappointing, that the main show never featured any famous sites of Washington DC. Imagine them search in the White House or Congress for some info on what happened and where the Government went... It's really horrible of the writers not exploring anything at all.

      @Deactiv8dStylez well in the comics, right before they get to Alexandria, Aaron had to go into DC to help save Heath, Scott, and some others, but Scott didn't make it after getting back to Alexandria and fighting infection. But still very briefly they were in DC lol
      The Show just chose not to go into DC and instead simply show the skyline of the Washington monument.
      They still didn't touch much on the politics of it all though. It was a cameo in both instances.

    The thing about the Wildfire Virus is that there is zero containment. Everyone is already infected, any death from any cause will result in a walker that could potentially create more. All it takes is one unobserved death inside even the most secure bunker can spell certain doom for the occupants.

      Most people who die without help do so because their body fails. Those would make for very weak zombies indeed. Most people don't die overnight: Most have a history of becoming really old and weak, getting ill, or getting help with dying from things as cars or other heavy objects. The show did a great job at portraying a swine flu victim dying overnight, but most people don't die that quick and silent. While something to stay vigilent of, it can't be the reason most of the military failed so quick

      I wouldn't be mad if they have ended it in season 5 episode 11 when the group arrives to Alexandria and Rick hears the kids playing inside the walls. The group was in rock bottom at that point and devastated by Beth and Tyreese's deaths, it would have been cool to end it with us not knowing what Alexandria looked like but with that good ending tone. The whole point of the show was Rick trying to bring his people to a safe place to live, it would have been cool if Alexandria ended up being that place.

    Considering Cobalt was about abandoning the Coasts and moving to the interior, I think that the President was moved to the Great Plains and what remained of the Government and Military became the CRM.
    Though they weren't originally the CRM. I think they were trying in good faith to restore order and fix the country, even in the months after the collapse officially ended. But, the President ended up dying, and maybe the line of succession was interrupted, and there was a power struggle for people to become the next "President". Whoever it was that won was an Autocrat who evolved the last of the USA into what we know as the CRM, a militant organization that does share the goal of restoring the United States, but not in a very democratic and peaceable way as you would expect with the successors to the American throne.
    I mean, we saw a powerful group of centralized people declare the Sixth French Republic in Daryl's show, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the CRM would declare a new United States or a Second United States or whatever.

    • @Mitch_Conner75926
      @Mitch_Conner75926 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s theoretically possible. While in a direct fight no, but if everyone is infected, then you no longer have control no matter how many people you have. When anyone dies at any time you have the potential for them to horde up. Say you’re in a bunker and nobody is infected, it’s a perfectly safe zone. Then someone just has a health issue randomly during the night and turns, then kills 5 others then so on and so forth. People look at is as if a giant wave of zombies is just going to charge the military. Well if that wave is coming from everywhere and never ending as there are only a few million military personnel including reserves and 330 million + people, you’d still get completely overrun as you don’t have enough people to maintain control of the entire country. This isn’t even counting the crime, panic and people that would attack the government due to panicking. Walkers are less likely but if you take a place that’s ridiculously densely populated such as the cities, you’d inevitably lose control. Places like China would go real quick, and if they were runners than most wouldn’t be able to survive at all. It’s quite difficult to make fast succession headshots and even more difficult if those targets are all running at you from different directions.

    Fear the Walking Dead changed a few dynamics, IMO. We saw someone with enough command authority survive to give legitimate orders to the USS Pennsylvania to nuke Chicago, and of course the beginning of PADRE. In the first seasons we saw the National Guard establishing safe zones with supplies in LA and they had helicopters, supplies, and communication from someone, and a secure hospital, I bet that was a "PADRE Phase 1". I also wonder if the Civic Republic was part of the overall PADRE plan, but it got taken over by someone who saw the old world as gone and they needed to mobilize for a new kind of future.
    Also, in "Walking Dead: The World Beyond", we saw Huck's Marine squad clue in to needing head shots within a few hours after the zombie uprising, so it is safe to assume that not all military units lost cohesion and broke apart. It would be interesting to see what happened on any of the nuclear carriers at sea. A Nimitz-class carrier could hold out for a long time and send shore raiding parties for food. A sort of pirate Battlestar Galactica scenario. 😄

      Maybe for a short webisode show like they did with the bike girl that we saw as a walker in the first episode when Rick finds the bike or the series they did that showed one of the locations that appeared in the show where there were trucks full of walkers because one of the characters from that one was leading them there. Not really interesting enough to carry on beyond 3 or 4 episodes, 6 at most. And what happens when people get sick and die on board? No where to run or hide and the ships basically become floating coffins for everyone on board.

    Doomsday bunker, if he even left the White House. No way Walkers would breach that security fence. The Walkers are so slow just one Secret Service agent could drop a hundred of them in just a few minutes. The White House has snipers on the roof. There are dozens of expert marksmen there with a ton of weapons and bullets. They have a ton of supplies and vehicles. They could drive around the city running down Walkers in the President's limo. That thing is very heavy with bullet resistant tires and windows.

      Not to mention as usual what zombie fiction. The real problem is never the zombies there the catalyst. It's all the social unrest that happens around it. Really have a real world example of this where COVID was nowhere near as devastating as let's say it's older sibling, Spanish influenza, but the absolute economic and social downfall globally was so horrifying. The only thing that has ever eclipsed it is polio and the black plague which literally changed the course of human history.

      You forget everything is interconnected. You'll eventually run out of bullets. Or medicine. Food. Even morale in a crumbling world. You are always dependent on tens of thousands (at least, probably more!) of people at a time to get you your stuff you need eventually. The nation is like a body requiring sustenance that is cut off due to this virus, and then individual cells die en-mass, maybe even the body (nation) itself.
      Again, for a time sure, it could work. But the Walking Dead universe just goes on for like 20 years. There'd be hundreds of thousands of Walkers eventually. Even if they run them all down, you need some sort of long-lasting contingency and keep anyone left from not dying and then staying loyal and on-board.
      Even supplies will run out after a while especially if it's more rather than less people. You need to get power from somewhere.
      A lot is just dependent on generally working civilian infrastructure. Yes, there are contingencies, backup power, etc. But those only work for so long and require eventual resupply. I think people maybe over-estimate some things - at least at a crisis of that magnitude. The US might partly be more resilient in some areas but here in Europe, let me tell you, society would basically implode past 3 days without power and supply chain breaking down. And then after weeks of constant societal death and decline, whatever might be left of a government can't do shit either unless they somehow banded together with enough people to try some kind of restart at a place with sufficient spare resources and farmlands.

Vehicles should be mostly inanimate objects to them - once they stop moving at least. Given the bulletproof glass you could in theory just kill the engine and pray they quickly lose interest. If they're smart enough to ID human targets and tell them apart from inanimate objects and other non-organic objects and assuming they can't see through the windows to see humans then they should quickly lose interest is no more movement and sound is made.

    That's an interesting thought, I would like to read a series about the third generation in a zombie apocalypse fighting for resources. Each fraction having overriding "authority" from long dead forebears.
    -- The Trust's United States Army, born from a group of Congressmen and whats left of the military industrial complex.
    -- President Teller's United States Army, formed from a Senator and some Generals.
    -- The President's continuity of government program taskforce, which only had 3 Joint Chiefs and a former Vice President.
    -- The Revolutionary Brotherhood, the offspring of Marines that turned rebellious to save the local town.
    -- The United States Navy, started with an Admiral with a carrier group.
    As for TWD, without followers a President is just another asshole who can't farm.
    I think Stealth from Ex Heroes had it right:
    “So the Mount is now under the Army’s control?”
    “Technically, unless you seceded from the United States at some point in the past two years … yeah.”
    “Which United States are you referring to?”
    The question froze Smith and Freedom. It jarred the others, too. The man in the suit coughed once. “I … I’m not sure I understand your question.”
    Stealth crossed her arms. “Which states are still united? California has not had a functioning state government for twenty-two months now. There are no social services in effect. No taxes levied or laws enforced. Its borders and lands are not maintained. As a state, California has ceased to exist by any possible definition. From our own limited reconnaissance, I can say with some certainty it is not alone in this respect. Alaska. Arizona. Florida. Hawaii. Massachusetts. Nevada. New York. Oregon. Texas. Washington.” She paused for a moment, then added, “The District of Columbia.”
    Smith shifted his feet.
    “So I ask,” she continued, “which states are still running and operating to the extent they can form a united nation, one that you and these soldiers can represent?”

      @@glennhubbard5008 It would be interesting at least TV show lore. To give us at least tidbits of what happened to the government and military seen we are a decade in the apocalypse already. Lets say Daryl stumbles into a old bunker facility. An upon entering the facility it turn out it has automatic reserved generators for power, he stumbles on a computer an we see a soldier on the monitor.
      An this soldier must be at least a Colonel in rank giving out his thoughts on the last days of the U.S and explaining how D.C was overrun. An he does not know if the president is safe as the military including the facility Daryl is on is being abandoned for more possible safer locations outside the mainland and to follow procedure like P.A.D.R.E.

    I think the thing that's always made it impossible for me to take this show seriously is stuff like P.A.D.R.E. Legitimately, whenever the government or military are involved, the show will basically be like "So they built this fortressed area with layers of barriers and a bunch of guards with advanced weaponry and a bunch of supplies and training. But then they all died."
    Which leads to the question, "Okay, but how did they all die with all of those preperations and effective countermeasures?"
    To which the show's response is universally "I dunno. Zombies broke in and killed them, I guess. No idea how they actually managed to do it, but believe us, they totally did."

      All it takes is one death within these fortified walls for them to become a coffin. Same thing happened to Crawford. One doctor died, which let him bite a few more people, which means those few more walkers take a few more out, and so on. Everyone's infected, and everyone dies someday. You either escape the walls, which is remarkably difficult given the layers of barriers, or you get bitten and die.

    There's a Walking Dead comic called The Walking Dead: Typhoon (idk if it's canon or not) they talked about China and how it got infected. I heard that the Chinese government tried to contain it but the Capital of China, Beijing, went dark and so is the government. They never mentioned anything about the president after that. Probably he is dead or still alive somewhere but the interesting is that the president of that timeline is President Jiang Zemin the real world former president of China. But the thing is the President Jiang Zemin served his term until 2003 but the virus brokeout globally in 2010. But imo if the US President is still alive he'll definitely be with the high ranking military officers and the Chairman of the Joints Chief of Staff which at that time was either Admiral Michael Mullen or General Martin Dempsey (idk if it's gonna be the real life people or a fictional character) but imo I still think the President is still alive like if you think about the possibilities. The US houses many military bunkers, secret bases like Area 51 and probably a Aircraft Carrier out there in the ocean. But if I'm crazy to think this far I might be thinking of the US President and other countries president like Russia, China, UK etc meeting up and trying to make a cure. But that's just my speculation.

    I mean Mt. Weather is a well known bunker an hour or 2 from Alexandria set up for government VIPs. It's capable of housing thousands of people for years under a mountain without ever having to open the doors. Wouldn't it be a good idea to go check it out? Even if nobody made it there it's full of supplies and the perfect place to live, or at least have as a backup plan. I like how you pointed out that the Plan, what ever it was, wasn't setup for a Zombie Apocalypse, since such a thing did not really exist (meaning the zombie genre), but instead I think the Plan was designed in case of just a biological outbreak, as it seems. I am sure in the real world, as crazy as it may sound, the US govt. has a plan for a Zombie Apocalypse. I would better that many countries have think tanks just creating plans for different things. Sure it may seem like maybe not since the US govt had failed in dealing with things in the past, like most recently COVID, but COVID was not a world ending event. But I have no doubt, behind the scene people in the govt. were getting ready if COVID turned out to become even more serious as a possible extinction event. Personally, I originally thought COIVD was Nature's way to deal with human population, but as it turned out, which is still not 100% factual, COVID might have been a human product and Nature had nothing to do with it. One thing is for sure as we have seen in TWD, the Earth will continue even after humans die off. In the TWD world Nature is slowly eliminating what humans have been, with Nature taking over cities and towns with overgrown. In FTWD we saw how Nature even washed out roads and bridges.

    I believe that by that point there would be no Bunker complex left operating or life viable. Considering the rush of things (Cobalt was a last resort solution, a last resort solution that happened extremely quickly, so you can imagine that chaos was overwhelming at an alarming rate), rations and facility management alone would leave only a few complexes viable while the rest would have needed weeks and months of preparation before entering service. Knowing that rations would have been limited, it would have eventually caused whatever administrative branch left to either resort to relocation to another base of operations, thus abandoning the facility, or it will resort to scavenging which seems extremely unlikely, considering the secrecy that would have surrounded the whole affair, you can't just send personnel outside of secret facilities while knowing that they could compromise, even indirectly if chased by undead, the whole facility.
    In regard to Military, I think it does exist, but it is by no way considered an official state military whatsoever since by that point most governmental structures would not exist, some could have eventually joined to the CRM and other similar post-collapse organizations, while others would act either as a no longer official platoon or long ago deserted soldiers surviving alone or in some random pocket of survivors.
    All in all there are a lot of things left unanswered, such as special military units and organizations (Seals, marines, British SAS, NATO, UN), CIA, MI5 and the list goes on, certainly a lot of juice is left to be extracted from the whole universe

    Yes COG was developed in the case of war or a terrorist attack. However, with the dead reanimating, that would put a cog in the COG. (intended) Now, could there still be nuclear powered naval ships and subs out in the oceans with military and even civilian survivors on them? After all, not all would have had the bad luck like the USS Pennsylvania did. As for resupply, lots of small islands in the South Pacific to find food. By the way, the U.S. Navy travels in a fleet with an aircraft carrier as its main ship. Obviously the fleet would not be complete due to loss of some ships not being to handle all the walking dead but there could still be some ships out there maybe even with ships from other navies with them.

Home of "The Hole" The first Nuclear Command Bunker we built, it was the command post for SAC, now Strategic Command. the Orders for the USS Pennsylvania most likely came from there. Its where Bush landed on 9/11. Thats where the Joint Chiefs would have fallen back to once the wheels started to fall off.The problem with Raven Rock and Mt Weather is that too many people would show up at the gate thinking its safe. There are probably massive hoards surrounding both, then the supplies ran out.
    Whereas Omaha didn't fall, probably because the military prioritized keeping it under control from the start, so "The Hole" would stay secure. Maybe that's why the CRM gassed Omaha. to create a hoard that would surround "The Hole"? That's one way to stage a coup.

The main government in the CGWHQ will still exist, but due to the EMPs and destruction they'll likely lose contact with the other government HQs and be incapable of governing distant areas.
    I imagine that the US has something similar. After the walkers cause complete societal collapse there is no one government or one president anymore. I would have to argue that the President and both line of succession and upper military command all survived.
    More than likely, the P.A.D.R.E. aspect was a scenario similar to the Enclave in Fallout. That's what it seems like, especially if the island shown is Alcatraz.
    Now as to where the President could be...that is an interesting question. Way I see it, there are at least 5 possibilities:
    1 & 2: Weather Mountain or Raven Rock. These are fallout shelters that have existed since the Cold War.
    3: Under the White House. If you've ever seen "Olympus has Fallen," then you know about the system of bunkers under the White House.
    4: The Pentagon. Unlike most facilities, the Pentagon doesn't have just a fallout shelter or bunker, but it also has a working self-contained nuclear reactor, which would provide unlimited power if needed.
    5: Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. Cheyenne Mountain is where NORAD is, which houses the facility to launch nuclear weapons. It also houses the DEW, Delayed Early Warning, system, and thus has the capability, being isolated and securable, of housing anyone associated with a Continuity of Government program.
    6: Unknown. Why? Because POTUS was able to take off in Air Force One for an undetermined time. Military protocol would have been that if an outbreak happened on the plane, infected would be eliminated without question, including POTUS or anyone else, and if needed, Command would find a place to land -- probably at an Air Force base like Wright-Patterson in Ohio or Edwards in Arizona.
    At least, those are my educated guesses as to where those involved with Continuity of Government protocols would be in the Walking Dead universe.

    Back in 2010 Frank Darabont was going to have the first episode of season two play out as following the soldier in the tank that Rick was in at the beginning of season one. It was going to explain how the military got overrun and how he ended up in the tank, but of course when they fired it kind of just went down from there.

    The problem with relying on the military is that each soldier, each sailor, each personnel has a family back home they will be worried about. It's one thing for a soldier to be deployed overseas and you believe your actions are making it safer back home. But if there's a complete societal collapse and zombies wandering around eating people.... a soldier from Utah that has been deployed in Oregon could care less about duty and more concerned about people he knows back in Utah. Desertion seems very likely as groups of soldiers will be taking whatever assets and supplies to make their way home. Suddenly the military is short staff and there may be fire fights to prevent some troops from leaving, etc. It will be complete chaos. I believe the scene in FTWD, where the soldiers and the CO went to raid some building and it's implied that the troops just fragged the CO.

And then we have a whole series following maybe a squad, the president and others seeing their progress in taking America back, taking city after city, state after state, reintegrating survivors back into the county and then it end with the last few million hordes on the west coast, and there’s a huge battle (LA for example) we see humvees with US marines clearing Building after building. The US Army, spotting one horde, letting the US airforce strafe them with A-10s F-15s B-2 etc. and at the end of it all we see the US flag on top of the tallest building, People All across the reclaimed US Celebrating, knowing that America is free from the dead once and for all, and the president giving a speech from his command center saying that America has been freed but the rest of the world awaits.

When everything around you falls apart, even your work schedule and logistics and cohesion will fall apart at some point, when your colleagues die or dip en mass and no more orders come in, when your PD gets abandoned or overrun or looted, when power goes out, etc.
      At least in major urban hubs without a strong military backup or assistance, you'd have a hard time. I reckon smaller communities could prolly turn to self-policing, deputizing and using the land or close by resources or stockpiles to their advantage, but in big towns and cities, it would be hard to keep cohesion and order.

    One of the points that many of these apocalyptic show scenarios gloss over is the fact that the logistical network for civilization is no longer available to survivors. Even in discussions about the military, which is arguably the biggest, fastest consumer of logistics (food, fuel, ammunition, whatever it is, the military will use it up faster), it will soon fail simply from a lack of resupply. There are no longer the industrial base that makes any of the things they need and hence, because of their rate of usage and depletion, will become organizationally irrelevant in the early days of such events beyond their stockpiled reserves. Separate posts and units may mutiny and become fiefdoms or enclaves (like in Fallout, LOL...) and become brutal in their survivalist tactics as any sense of nationhood would give way to the basic needs of survival. Technology would take a sudden leap backwards by a century as the delicate balance of maintenance would no longer be afforded and when things like electronics break, they're gone forever without hopes of replacement. Eventually, in the years to follow, spears and swords will be the weapons of convenience and firearms will be considered a luxury as ammunition becomes depleted. IMHO, one word. Scary.

    • @TWDExplained
      @TWDExplained  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      good point about the resupply - I made some videos way back that talked a little about it -
      For communities popping up - a doctor, a good mechanic, construction worker, metalsmith, chemist - several other crafts/skills could be named - makes it seem like Morpheus in The Matrix telling Neo "Those are the minds we are trying to save!"
      As for bullets, as long as they can retrieve the casings - kinda easy to make bullets. TWD showed Eugene in a factory type setting - my brother-in-law has a 6x10 shed, and at a little bench inside he can make almost any bullet out there. It would take him a while to supply a militia I guess.

    • @ralphrepo
      @ralphrepo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@TWDExplained Making ammunition reliably is easy with today's production values. But once those finely factory produced grains of powder are used up, the kind of powder charges in weapons would be relegated to the reliability of munitions made and used in the civil war. That is, even with an expert armorer (a skill set that would decrease over time) bullets wouldn't be coming out with the kind of efficiency that could supply say, an entire platoon with a standard load out of 140 rounds per man. In fact, I would venture to say that firefights as we know it would no longer take place as munitions would become too valuable to spray and pray, or even to entertain a tactical notion of modern combat, ie. suppressive fire. Thus, IMHO, automatic weapons would no longer be a widely used weapon of consequence after a generation (ie. in the time of Carl or Judith Grimes growing up). Given the zombie attracting nature of firearms, that and the logistic considerations, weapons of choice would be close quarter martial alternatives like spears, axes, and knives, with perhaps a handgun held as an option of last recourse. Also, what many don't realize, is that the most valuable place worth defending is access to old technology. Being that electronics, computers and the other modern edifices of knowledge will no longer exist, the most important place on earth would be the public library as it holds the keys to the collected knowledge of a world that no longer can exist. If there's any way to claw back to that world, knowledge would be the absolute key as the people who can come up with the research would no longer be available.

    I know it was just taken for granted that the military no longer existed in TWD universe. But seeing how strong groups such as the Commonwealth and CMR are make the collapse of the military even more absurd. Even taken together those groups wouldn't even have a tiniest fraction of the strength the armed forces have.
    I almost think the creators of TWD have some sort of resentment towards the military with how dumb & ineffective the troops were depicted.

    • @Ratchetonater
      @Ratchetonater ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think there is any resentment, they just sort of blah blah blah over the outbreak because they didn't really have a way to make the collapse believable. IMO, WWZ and shaun of the Dead did a much better job at showing how a competent military would deal with an outbreak. The Last of Us showed us how no military would stop it.

    • @preshlock
      @preshlock ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ratchetonater I agree and it was not an issue at all for me in the glory days of TWD. Also the few flashbacks showing the military at the hospital, napalming Atlanta were decent enough. But at the outpost in Fear TWD the army couldn't even shoot through a chain link fence. Then later they tried to build up the Commonwealth and CMR as powerful. Those groups are an absolute joke compared to a real military.
      Your opening point is spot in that the writers couldn't come up with a realistic way the military was beaten. So hence they basically just wrote them out of the show.

    I have a theory about how long the civic republic has been around. If you look at the gear they have an resources, the type of gear they have takes time to develop. You first draw up the plans an that takes a few years then you make prototype gear.Now prototypes of any thing can take way longer to make then you have to make adjustments to the prototype just to get a prototype that can be field tested. That stuff alone can take years to do.The resources, they had to have a large amount stock piled before the dead rose.They had to have huge amounts just to fix up cities to keep walkers out not to mention resources to take care of the people.
