Copilot, your trainers are incompetent. Watching Craig incorrectly performing nearly every single movement in his program (of the ones that he records for us to watch) is incredibly painful for those of us who have taken the time to educate ourselves on how to perform hypertrophy training in a way that ACTUALLY PRODUCES RESULTS. You have had him spinning his wheels - wasting his time, effort and energy - on a horrendously sub-optimally executed training program for over three years now. Where are the results? It would be nice if Nathaniel had at least a modicum of a clue as to what he is doing. It would be great if he could actually stay up date with sports science. But I don't see any of that happening. Your app is a joke and you are screwing over everyone who purchases it.

100% agree. I resisted working out for most of my life. Then came the pre-diabetic diagnosis. I committed to 20 minutes a day of any activity, because let's face it, many of us waste more time than that multiple times a day. After 6 months of consistent exercise and eating better, I lost a lot of weight, I'm no longer pre- diabetic and I feel better, mentLly and physically. There is no easy button. It takes work and committment.
    Thanks for always motivating me!

One thing that really helped me get into exercising regularly was realizing that working out doesn't just mean lifting weights in a gym. There are a million ways to exercise, and some of them are really fun. Most sports are a great form of cardio, and rock climbing and ninja warrior gyms can be a blast. Exercising doesn't have to be boring unless you want it to be.

I think the most important thing on the list is number 4. I hate running, but I’ve done it every day for over 5 years now. Once I gave up on ever hitting a ‘runner’s high’ or my run being ‘the best part of my day’ and just embraced the suck, I became much more consistent.

Another tip: find a workout you enjoy! You don’t have to go to the gym if you really dislike going, you can try to find something (or multiple sports) that you like better. It took me a long time, but now that I discovered bouldering, yoga, cycling and hiking I am more motivated to keep moving than ever before!💪🏼

I'm currently at day #1185. The Covid lock downs and a 3 month furlough nearly drove me crazy with anxiety, so I channeled that energy into exercise and diet. But yeah, absolutely correct - do something every day. Doesn't have to be a marathon, just don't stop moving.

Instead of forcing myself to something I don't like I tried a lot of stuff and found something that I don't hate. It's not perfect, and it's probably "not enough", but at least I move my body more than I used to. I loved swimming as a kid, so why not do it as an adult? It's awesome and has helped me get back on track, even if it's not as consistent as I used to be. Congrats on your extreme consistency that you are flaunting in our faces you show-off! I love these videos. They've really motivated me to keep going back to exercising when I start to get lax.
I think I disagree with the willful versus unwillful suffering personally. I saw my mom who ate healthy and worked out regularly for decades have a massive stroke at 57. She thankfully survived, though she is partially paralyzed now. You can do everything right and still face unwillful suffering. I don't think it's finite. I was a CNA and saw people smoke and drink daily for 70 years and die peacefully in their sleep. You can do a lot wrong and still have life go fine.
What I did see though was her willfully suffering made her more resilient in the face of unwillful suffering. She had the mindset to get through PT and OT when others started to drop out. She and my dad have continued to travel and enjoy their passions as they're able. And I know that's because willful suffering helped her practice accepting suffering and go on - which translated to unwilful suffering too. That's part of what motivates me is knowing that it undoubtedly helps me build the mentality that will make unwillful suffering more bearable. I've already seen the impacts of that in small ways. So much of exercise is mental it's wild.
Anywho - thanks for the great video and the kick in the butt I needed today!

And another thing, as I've gotten older, I've started to think of fitness more in line with the sports I did in high school. It doesn't always have to be all about straight exercise. Like you can move into a "season" where you focus on a specialty that isn't just lifting weights. For instance, do weights for an "off-season" and then just maintain and focus on a technical physical skill like shooting hoops, or scoring goals, or playing catch with your son every day to get him better at baseball, but I think that approach has helped me from having fitness get stale like it has in the past and then losing my progress.

One thing that helped me a lot when I first started working out was that the gym instructor there made sure I was going easy enough at first, so that I wouldn't feel the initial pain you mentioned. Especially to avoid joint pain. I learned the importance of that after I quit the first time and got back to training without the instructor supervision...put too much weight and got f*ckd. There's no need to rush... progressive overload is key.

      Also, 9:57 Wink. A-ma-zing.
How do you incorporate walking your dog in your day, @Wheezywaiter? I guessed when you were counting steps, that must be part of it. But for the "Work outs" though-is walking your dog a part of that? I just wondered because I remember you called the Co-Pilot workouts as "strength building". I guess my question is more about how CoPilot/Nathaniel thinks of it, and also you did not mention that in your "how capable you are" sublist? Is it not really a workout for you at all?
I do exercise for the exercise's sake as well but I personally count in my dog walkings into it. They are a handful and I really have to motivate myself strongly about it. My psycological reaction is very similar and my heartrate go up, sometimes as hard as when I'm exercising at a gym. So it made sense I count it as part of my exercise routine.
I know this comment is already long, but I have a feeling you might not count it as "exercise," strictly speaking. If you don't, is it because you are used to walking dogs before CoPilot came into your (our) life (lives) anyway? Do you see fitness stats after walking your dog? How often and how long are your walks... Okay that should be all.
      PSTA!!! And thank you.

Exercising for its own sake has always seemed pointless to me. Then I realised I could… do other things. And then found out that in order to taking horse-riding lessons I had to lose 12 kilos. Having an existing, barely used gym membership from an aspirational-phase sign-up really helped with that. I swam most days in summer, then my schedule changed so I went to night gym classes (boxing/circuit) twice a week. Now I’m doing fortnightly riding lessons! I also workout with a friend 2 days a week, just lil at-home dance workouts, or a half hour walk. I would also love to do kyudo if there was a “club” in my area, but alas. There is an archery place though, so I’m doing their safety course in September with my brother and some friends. Find something you will enjoy and make space for it - your workout/s can be a hobby and/or social, and vice versa; even smth like gardening can be pretty intensive. I know I’m happier doing it that way.

I took about a year off after my son came. It's just such a disruption to life as you know it and overwleming when a little one is added that it takes time to readjust. What got me back into the swing was committing just 10-15 minutes 3 days a week. Once I got that down, I added time and days, but I needed the bite-sized sessions to get back into the routine first. Good luck!

Fill your time with long walks, house chores, cleaning your car, washing windows, cooking, laundry, anything you can think of that keeps you on your feet but not standing for hours at a time. Nobody asked but here is what I do... I try to make a plan to avoid fighting my own motivation and willpower. I go to bed at 22 the day before, and wake up at 6 in the morning, drink 1 glass of water, take a 1.5 hour walk, walk to work, wait until around 12 before having breakfast, home from work and chill, eat, wait, walk another 1.5 hour trip somewhere between 18 and 19, come home, chill, go to bed, repeat.
If you feel hungry before 12, if it feels bad, eat, if not, wait. If you go to bed at 23, wake up at 7 and adjust.
If you want to add strength training, skip trip nr 2, make sure you eat something 1-2 hours before, and do it right after work.
The funny thing is that the morning walk feels like it's free, and since the time between the first and the second trip is so long, by body is ready again.

I've been doing 10,000 steps a day this whole year. I'm hanging in there. The strange thing is that it hasn't really helped my cardio at all. I still get winded instantly if I do any running or major exercises. I need to work on that, and it's been the biggest struggle.

Dare to be pointless? More like: disappointless!
But also dare to be pointless because I’d prefer that merch to be back because my T-shirt is washed out and I am still daringly pointless.
Trivia: In my country we literally call the “fire hydrant” the “pissing dog”. Less subtle I guess.

I got up the other morning, put my clothes on, went outside to my stationary bike and almost brought it in to work out. I paused there thinking about how much I didn't want to work out. Maybe if I had had your mantra in my head I would've done it. PSTA. next time. Next time.

Here’s another way to become motivated. The exercise science of hypertrophy is nerd crack. The pursuit of great technique is challenging and add to that the science of eating to support it all - more nerd crack. There’s enough for a multi year year deep dive while you’re slowly transforming into someone who hopefully won’t fall and break a hip ever. Thinking hard about it can be a source of great motivation.

Its very odd that after around 90 days training/exercise becomes a bit addicting. Personally I believe its because the first 90 days is excruciating on ligaments all over your joints. After or around 90 days that pain goes away and you just have muscle soreness to deal with. Take supplemental amino acids and that too only last a day or 2.

Music works for me. Have a workout playlist which you enjoy, then when you've built up the association starting the music will get you going when you're not so enthusiastic. It's kinda like I'm doing some robot dancing to deep house music 😅.
