Great video Stuart. The desayuno looked delicious. I often used to eat either on the industrial estates or the ventas where the lorry drivers stop. I love Monday because im home, and i take advantage of seeing TH-cam videos like this one. Thank you for sharing the locals' places from the beautiful ESPAÑA 🇪🇸 GRACIAS 👍☕️😍
Looks delicious!!!!! I can't wait! Im a Dual Citizen (US/SP) moving there in the coming months and planning on teaching English. I have cousins in Madrid and in the Basque Country. It's nice to hear your perspective on long term living. Im mostly concerned with about getting a job since I am in my 50s. Also trying to decide where I'd like to go. The Basque Country is pricey and Madrid has a lot of competition. So I am in research mode and appreciate your videos and opinions. Thankfully I am fairly fluent in Spanish so I am hoping this will give me and edge
Thanks again Stuart. This happens to be my favorite breakfast. I think “pa amb tomaguet” is a Catalan thing that has spread in Spain, but I could be wrong. If you get it with bellota, it’s heavenly!
Great video Stu, Ithink it the breakfast was good value, i am going to try it next trip to Spain it is my kind of breakfast i love a bit of Jamon at any time of the day.
I see that Spain has its own version of the Devon/Cornwall scone war (Jam on cream or cream on jam) with the olive oil on ham or tomato. Seems like a good deal. Tipping buttons on card machines are common in the UK.
I had the same breakfast in Alicante at Cafe El Mirador. I highly recommend it, great sea views and good service. They used to do pan con tomate with anchovies which is even better in my opinion.
Looked like a really great Breakfast & terrific value at €5.20. Can I suggest you tip in cash though, staff often don’t receive tips left on cards. Great videos, thank you. Back to Calpe this Thursday.
Nice breakfast at a great price, I always round up the charge to a round number roughly leaving 10% which is appreciated. I don't think everyone leaves a tip here in the Canaries as they usually are surprised. Stu
I wasn't ready for the amount of ham and was expecting one thin slice. That looked great. As for the olive oil, usually you get your tostada with the tomato sauce already on, so oil goes on top; When it's not, I add the olive oil 1st, but it makes more sense to put it on top of the tomato sauce.
Stu, that is normal here in the States (automatic tip added to CC payment, except 10, 15 & 20%). 5% is a fair tip for what you had. Looking forward to my Spain visit next month, 3 nights in Alcalá and 4 in Madrid Centro.
The good ham is €20+. We may not go to that specific one but we can learn about that type of restaurant for future voyages. TH-camrs are often worried about the background noise but it really isn't picked up by the mic.
Re the tip option on the POS screen. Get used to it. It's like that everywhere here in the US. Makes you feel guilty for not tipping, with the waitstaff watching you. No pressure!!
That price cannot be beat! I just had breakfast on Sunday and it was just a bagel with egg cheese and some pastrami and water and it was almost 8 dollars. US. And that is without a tip.😢
Nice breakfast and, although you often complain about Spanish coffee, a decent looking cup of coffee. That has improved since my time in a Spanish school decades ago.
I find it interesting that it was not served on a plate. Looks like a good breakfast. Very good value IMHO. Stu how about a review of the different ham types for those of us that do not know! Be in Spain in 17 days and looking forward to the experience again.

I think smiling staff goes a long way to make the food enjoyable. With the ham and oil in was ok for a diabetic, not so much without the ham. Would not have needed added salt with that poss already salty ham. Gluten free bread is never much good compared with the regular bread.

@@janethaver3375 Thanks for your input. So, are you saying there is no place in Madrid to get bacon and eggs and if there was, no one visiting Madrid would be interested because it's not a traditional Spanish breakfast?
My husband and I just had an early dinner( 5:30 pm) at a restaurant in Aurora , Colorado yesterday. We got two smothered burritos . One had sour cream and both had a mexican white cheese. Both of the burritos were smothered with chili . We paid $36.00 dollars plus a $7.00 tip , which is 20 percent of the bill. My husbands burrito had pork that he said was dry as a bone. He told me later after we left that his burrito was awful. I still would have given the waitress a good tip , since it is not her fault the food was not great. I had chicken in my burrito and it was fine. The place had a 4.5 rating. It was not that great for a local place and was not what I would call a 4.5 . So when I see videos on food in Spain we sure miss the prices and quality of the food and bread. We used to eat out often here in Metro Denver, but we can not afford to eat out that often. It is not really good for our health anyway. Fast food here at In and Out , which is a chain , costs 17.00 for two hamburgers with french fries and a drink . My husband likes to order the double hamburger with cheese on top . Costco here charges $3.50 for a big hot dog on a bun with a soda pop fountain drink. You won't find food that cheap at any fast food or restaurant here in Metro Denver. I have come to realize in the last two years as prices have gone up that to eat well in Denver Metro whether it is a breakfast , dinner or lunch they generally hover around 15.00 for the entree to start.
Hola Stuart, on average we can travel for about 6 months a year. We only have breakfast if it's included in our accommodation. Even if we have a place without a kitchen or kitchenette, will normally get something from supermarket. Even at ,5 euros each a breakfast that works out to 1800 euros in 6 months. While was just in Romania bought a kettle from a China shop ,saved a lot of money on buying coffee. Left kettle at our last apartment. Coffee for my wife, I only drink water and beer 🍻, hasta pronto amigo
