- Joe Grand talks about hardware hacking, the beauty of engineering, and finding the right work-life balance.
Joe Grand, also known as Kingpin in the hacker community, is a computer engineer, inventor, teacher, device security expert, runner, daddy, honorary doctor, TV host, member of legendary hacker group L0pht Heavy Industries, and the proprietor of Grand Idea Studio.
Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Boston University, and an Honorary Doctorate of Science in Technology from the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona.
Joe has been creating, exploring, and manipulating electronic devices since the 1980s and has been using Altium Designer or its predecessors for nearly just as long. As the first hardware designer to spark the “badgelife” electronic trade-show badge movement, he certainly has a flair for the art of PCB design.

Wiseman, SmartMan, Turbo 🤓,
Louis Rossmann FTW!!
How can I be as smart as this guy?
Work ethic, curiosity, a specific long-term goal, keeping in good health to stay productive and capable as a being (eating healthy, exercise, good sleep). Above all, it's building a routine. Incorporate these things into your life as routines, but slowly work them in as to not shut yourself down by trying to change too much at once. Humans are creatures who operate within routines and habits, you have to work toward reshaping those and outlining your overall plan to learn something and become great at it.
