Tbf, they aren't the ones behind that series. It's Wired and the people doing the searches and watching the videos. They're just doing it to promote their projects.
Danggg he did it in 3 weeks. As an EEE student, I understand how hard it is to write and debug the code, let alone designing the circuit board. Mann that was a good piece of tech. And it's very generous of you to compose it into a single video. Really goes on to show how high quality this video is
Man, I love videos like these. My first thought, when I've seen the title was: "pfft, I know how to do it". But then my thought was: "Yeah, but do I know EXACTLY what steps should be taken and do you have all the knowledge and necessary skills for this to be done?" No, not really. That's where the awesomeness of this breakdown really kicks in.
This is the most authentic and enthusiastic documentation of a brilliant mind I have ever seen. He is truly a shaper of humanity's future - no matter where the pizza is.
You know you should have blurred out the info about the 3 nearest Pizza places because thats basically makes it very easy to triangulate you. When your beeing paranoid better be it all the way ;-)
Holy crap-nuts I'm old! The last time I made a Gerber plot was 1987 and I'm surprised that's still the standard for PCB layout... Clever solution to an entertaining problem, Joe!
The title makes it look like this is the start of a series - if you're looking for more hacks in a hurry, I can whip you up something special. It's kinda what I do
that's one of the most fascinating pcbs i think i've ever seen seems like the wish of a fantasy filled child comes true, this would seem like magic to most people
"compass that points at the nearest pizza place" is totally a little kid idea! thats why i love hardware hackers, always making the impossible possible
This device can be used to locate nearby hospital when in emergency at unknown city when phone battery dies or where internet connection is poor (I'm assuming this uses way less data than smartphone maps) so that one can reach hospital quickly
There are a lot less hospitals then there are pizza places so you could even load the coordinates of all the hospitals in the country and never even need an internet connection
i haven’t watched the whole video but you would want an algorithm to follow roads so that it would point you to your next turn or point instead of directly to the destination. You would probably want to find the curve of your current road and use that to determine how many points to put on the road . a straight line would need two points but a 180 maybe need way more.
Anyone else on a Joe Grand & L0pht binge ever since the Trezor video was uploaded? Maaaan, I am loving this nostalgia, I feel the 90s flowing through me!
Haha, this is in my feed for a reason, and exactly partially what I needed lol Also this reminds me of my fantasies, but the debugging part reminds me of real life reality of projects
great video thanks! i was surprised by the inspection of the pcb at the end of the production. having worked as a tech producing smd pcb's for laser equipment we never got to that level of inspection. cool stuff. this really puts it in to perspective of how impressive the modern cell phone is. it does the data crunching mapping and guiding and at the same time you could be on a video chat and look something up. so much processing power in the palm of your hand. hard to believe how far we have come in 50 years.
Something like this could be great for an escape room or pre-planned scavenger hunt, would just need to switch the backend to something that gives then next location if the player hits the "hint" button.
I wish the controller you had designed was shaped like a pizza.. a 3D printed case would've been really cool. I love the video though, informative and the metal during the coding kept it xtreme
Very interesting! And a cool project. Thanks! For someone who thinks something like this is interesting but has no knowledge whatsoever about computer engineering, this was very interesting, instructive and understandable.
Dude, you sure know how to get people engaged. I'm gonna check the code, even if I still don't know anything about a single programming language (but I would bet I'm quite the target of these videos). There's always time for a change.
I remember watching him create cool stuff in Prototype This when I was a kid. They’re around on TH-cam if anyone wants to check them out, it’s a great show
Sweet project! A little sad to see a fellow Portlander use a PCB service that isn't OSHPark, but at least you used another US manufacturer. I doubt you'll actually see this comment, but just in case: what is that screen cover on your Macbook? The gold-tinted looking one... Thanks!
Maybe you could sell these with a buyer set query. They can put it in whatever kind of case they want and it will point to whatever they select. It would be awesome great promotional item. How about one that points to the nearest bar that sells a particular beer, wine or liquor, or one to point to the nearest taco truck, or the nearest place to charge your phone. You could even make it run a virtual treasure hunt that leads people to interesting places on the way to a party that would be really hard to crash because its location would not be published until just about time to head that way. I bet someone does something like this for defcon, perhaps with increasing difficulty each night...
Hey, how about doing something similar but with a rotating slide of pizza shaped pointer, with a led display with the remaining distance? And maybe with multiple buttons to select nearby pizza, bookstore, electronics, market, etc? Well, that would defeat the purpose of the pizza pointer, but it would be cool.
i swear to god i've never had so much fun with a video of this kind... you earned a new subscriber also i can't believe you didn't put an interruptor just to toggle it on/off without removing the power cable lol xD
