"Too many secrets" :)
I see you are men of culture.
Ah, beat me to it. In the interests of full disclosure, I did google it - but I have seen the movie a long time ago, and certainly enjoyed it.
Agreed, Sneakers is the best hacker movie of all time. Way ahead of it's time.
So, you're gonna learn about sdr. It's pretty awesome. You can download images from weather satellites like NOAA 18, 19. Replay attacks, and the possibilities are countless. And since this is a hardware specific conference, you may come across RTOSes instead of linux kernel maybe. Looking forward for videos covering that. And I also use arch btw.
I like the Tigard for interfacing with stuff, UART/JTAG/SWD/etc. Has level shifters too so you can hook it to a huge range of voltages.
Love this Video! Thank you for showing us your go bag, Can't wait to start building out my toolkit
Another great video, thanks Matt!
Interesting stuff. Good luck at the CTF.
Make a video on the software you use including the OS.
Yes, most definitely love to see that too.
Matt, eu agradeço a Deus pela sua vida.
Os seus videos tem me ajudado muito (no trabalho e pesquisas). Sou de InfoSec.
Você é um cara dedicado e explica muito bem. Parabéns! Um dia serei como você kkk
Hugs from Brazil 🤝
Enjoy the con Matt!
dope stuff
Love your show bro. Every episode.. BTW, have all that is in your carry bag. Being an ex-avionics guy, maybe one day we can have some vulnerability analysis and attack surface discovery on all that is in air.
Add to your list SDK08 test clips.
Soldering iron S60 or S90 powered by type-C PD (Probably you get with you phone charger so soldering tool not get much space and if you get PD power bank you can solder literally everywhere)
Fluke is good meter but in the field i suggest to use oscilloscope in multimeter form factor like ZT-702S
Before too long you'll get your own talk and then we can all come see that!
Man i wish i could go! Maybe I’ll get my company to sponsor me next year for training
Enjoy the conference mate
have a nice trip, dont forget you chargers too.
hello Matt Brown, can you do a firmware extraction/modification of an hp deskjet printer? It would be so great!!!
What is the Hacker movie you are referring to Matt?
Never been. I was thinking a uart, laptop w linux, ethernet adapter, cords, dupont wires, cheapy multimeter, that would be it. Battery powered soldering iron might be a no-go for airplane. If i was driving id bring soldering gear. I don't have chip/eeprom readers. Enjoy your trip.
a USB or dc powered soldering iron would almost definitely fly, i would think. As long as you aren't packing 18650s directly or something.
Hows about a hacker tutorial on extracting a uab 2.0/3.0 micro controller on a thumbdrive or one of these shenzen geekbar, lost mary, and or spacebar type vapes which looks like could hold payloads or extra code for hacking.
Anybody know if the pickit 5 is a good starter kit for hardware analysis
I couldn't find any comments on the increase of the image quality of the recent videos and the new variety of content you are trying, so I want to share my thoughts.
Even though I liked the amateur look of your old setup, I guess these upgrades are a must to be more "professional". My brain isn't able to match the "underground" feel of the hardware hacking and the "professional" feel of the recent videos but it will probably adapt at some point :D New content types are fun to watch and as educative as the hacking videos. I really want to hear your thoughts and hot takes on the topics you encounter. keep it up 💪
Thanks for the feedback. Last 2 videos are definitely not the norm and not going to be regular. Still will be sticking to mainly long form hardware hacking :)
Can you link the Alfa WiFi card so I can purchase one.
witch laptop you use
Anyone know why they discontinued the jtagulator?
Please could you try to hack the Halo Scanner Angel? It's used to scan pet ID chips but it will only scan for about 30 seconds before turning off. I need to scan for a lot longer so I can put food on it so it will try to scan any cats that come to get the food. Thanks
Do you have enough stickers tho?
A TS100 or similar iron wouldn't take up much space... Seems like no reason not to take one.
Sneakers are the best
Setec Astronomy, Sneekers, 1992ish
some kind of usb storage device is the only extra thing it'd bring
"just pack a truck with all your lab gear so you be a walking hacking machine at the con"
In the past, I really liked Arch Linux, although my preferred distro was Debian, but once they both sold out to the systemd overlords, I quit running them. I'm still confused as to why the vast majority of the Linux community insists on using the malware that is systemd as a foundation for their operating systems.
openrc on Gentoo?
@@mattbrwn that's an excellent recommendation but I run Devuan and there is also Antix, Nitrux, and MXLinux that are out there and Debian based, which I now prefer.
What model of thinkpad are you using?
later model series, looks like a t480 ish type model to me. Could be post t440, and probably stopping at t480 though. The t450 and 60 models used a different color, it was a sort of grayish charcoal, rather than the traditional black, the t470 was a pretty ok model though, and the t480 is one of the best.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was, it's a good model. If this is the t480, if it has an external battery it's a 480, if it doesn't it's a 480s, i assume this applies to similar ranges of models as well.
Is there anything you would NOT bring to a conference?
No HackRF?
LOST MARY 3.7 volt battery, with a usb-c fast charging 5v port, whats strange 94.0V logic board umm i seen LED chip and its own micro-controller, and lots of resistors big n small blk, and one large blue resistor if that makes, i dunno its seems to intricate for a vape device to have that type of micro circutry just to have a mic to activate the charge and heat rods for a disposable
There can only be Arch.....btw 😁
2:35 is it "the objective" or "objective truth" ?
No IMDb for "objective truth"
sneakers 1992
Sneakers
you forgot the laptop itself!
My voice is my passport… verify me?
What’s that movie name, bro?
I can't tell you... "Too many secrets"
Dont forget your charger for your laptop ;)
Great movie for hackers in the day. Cattle mutilations are up
I would pack a dumb phone and no other electronics, nfc credit cards, or anything with personal information at all 😅. You never know. 😄
This is the kind of FUD that makes people miss out on so much learning at hacker conferences.
@@mattbrwn just kidding. Anyway one thing can do unintended capture is wireless, like the sdr device you showed. If you do packet capture, ie at 433MHz, your capture program capture everything, then filters whats you intended to capture.
arch "by the way"
This 😢
narrrrr just ask. everyone have one
