If you think baking soda “ breaks down the oils”, dissolve it in hot water and add oil. Shake. Observe that none dissolves. Baking soda doesn’t soften water under laundry conditions. 4 cups of product. 2 tbsp/load. The batch washes 32 loads. 4 oz of soap. 4/32 = 0.125 oz of soap/load. A penny weighs 0.1 oz.
Baking Soda is the same as Washing Soda. Just slowly 'bake' the the Baking Soda and Voila! Washing Soda. So, skip the Baking Soda because there's literally no point to using both products.
