I worked security at a show with the Jerry Only Misfits. Jerry was so cool, I'd asked to get a pic with him and he invited me into their touring trailer. He gave the whole security staff a free t-shirt that he signed. After that he stayed and took pics and signed the autographs of every single person that was left. I was the security that stayed there to make sure he was safe during that. It was in Seattle at Numoes.
Stop it with the lies. That security guard was ME. You were that 13 year old I wouldn’t let in because you showed me a fake ID. Now you’re all grownup, on the internet, telling MY story. Stolen valor.
I too have an Only Misfits story. In 2010, I saw them at Foxboro, MA and showed up 3 hrs early. Jerry saw me hanging alone in the parking lot and greeted me with a hug, invited me onto the tour winnebago and gave me a backstage pass so I could hang out inside. He posed for pics and was absolutely wonderful. I stayed in one spot the entire time since everyone was working towards setting up a show but Jerry would periodically stop over to see if I was OK and needed anything. After the show, I went up to say thank you and he gave me another big hug and thanked me for coming and hanging out. Unbelievable guy. As if I wasn't a big fan before, I'm a fiend for life!
Maybe it's just me but, I've always felt that the first Danzig era had a classic low budget slasher movie vibe, Graves had a more 90's slasher vibe, you know bigger budget and that it stood on the shoulders of the previous generation even if it didn't work out every time, and that the Jerry Only era was the ultra cheesey b-movies of the 1950's and 60's, maybe even a little more towards the direct to video type movies.
I saw Danzig/Misfits in the early 90s. And this young punk next to us kept flipping Glen the bird and yelling obscenities and Glen warned him. It wasnt long and Glen shot off the stage about 25 ft out and tackled this annoying punk. Then began to beat him while singing the whole time the band never missed a beat. And needless to say the punk stopped flipping his birds. and the crowd cheered. What a great show!!!
I saw the Jerry Only Misfits in 2004 at Jaxx in Springfield, VA. The show was great, but what was really memorable was how Jerry sat on the edge of the stage after the show ended, and signed every single artifact that was asked of him. He stayed until every last fan had an autograph, and had a conversation with anyone who wanted to chat him up. I still have the autographed shirt and concert ticket from Jerry, Dez, and Marky Ramone.
I had the same experience every time I saw them. At different points I have met Jerry, Doyle, Graves, Dez, Marky Ramone, dr. Chud, Robo. Pretty much everyone except Glen. Some of the nicest down to earth and humble famous people ever!
I mean back in the day McDonald’s was a whole different beast with actual quality items. Now it’s like meh and the pattys are a shell of their former selves.
I saw misfits this year in Jersey and was amazing. Best birthday gift I gave myself. Glenn thanked the audience numerous times throughout the show. He's just an overall great front man.
Jerry is one of the kindest people I've ever met... Last time I ever saw him ( in Grand Rapids Michigan) he would not leave the stage area until every one of the fans that wanted a quick moment or a high five or an autograph, got it. The whole story of the Misfits is entertaining, and you did a great job on this video my friend. I was almost late to work watching it..... Remember... Be good!
love how seemingly everybody found The Misfits when they were around age 13 and then became obsessed with their music. This was me too, and they will always hold a special place in my heart for introducing me to real punk.
Glenn discusses the early origins of the band in a long form radio interview available on here, and basically those people mentioned didn't write or even perform anything, it was more of a potential members that didn't work out scenario. "Original" members are typically defined as the lineup that starts to build recognition via recordings and performances in my opinion. To me it was always Glenn danzig, Jerry only, Bobby Steele, and Joey image that were the true original misfits. Doyle is arguably the most iconic guitarist though
100% agree! That 78-79 horror biz era was the best now that im 31 I now realize that. I also love the static age era but It’s hard to put the walk among us era 3rd ya just can’t! I’ve just grown too accustom to seeing and hearing that era live so much that I take it for granted at times. Lol oh I just heard a unreleased outtake version of some kinda hate and instrumental of hybrid moments. I gotta find the rest somehow
This retrospective is quite simply the very best. Thank you so much for posting this. I was not aware they toured w Myke Hideous & was completely floored after watching footage from those shows. i dare say that his stage presence far eclipsed all former, current & future band members.
One last drunken comment. As a person who has been a misfits fan in life longer than I haven't been one, taking the risk and seeing the band is fucking worth it. I saw danzig a ton as well as danzig with Doyle doing short misfits sets, and I got to see Samhain once. Aside from Samhain, nothing compared to being able to witness Glenn, Doyle , and Jerry playing a full set of anthemic misfits classics. I don't care about it being in a stupid ass stadium nose bleed section for 120 bucks, it was worth it to cross the misfits off my list. If it's at all possible for you to squeeze out just do it. It really is something amazing, especially being a fellow younger fan who wasn't around for the heyday
To be fair, the drum intro at 44 minutes is the Phil Spector drum intro, famous from the Ronettes classic "Be My Baby" from 1963 (considering Jerry's love for 50s and 60s music, that's probably where it was cribbed from) as well as being used in hundreds of other songs over the years. Fun fact!: Phil Spector is a complete maniac who produced a Ramones album and allegedly forced them to record one of his songs at gunpoint.
Thank you for giving flowers to the Graves era Misfits.Though they never will be the Danzig era....that "CarrolAnne "was an absolute monster tune. Many of us late 90s hardcore and graffiti kids 1st opportunity to see the Misfits live was this era.I remember everyone celebrated their entire catalog,Kay B Toy stories even carried Misfits Dolls of Jerry and Doyle.Great times in Fords,New Jersey.
Misfits changed my life at the age of 13 ,it was 1988 and my older brother played in a garage band covering the misfits early years stuff. From then on I have never turned back , by far the best band of all time ... and also being a young comic book collector in those days I found myself trading all my superhero boxes for pre code horror and weird sci fi .. long story short these guys are the reason my house looks like a graveyard of awesome thru out!! The wife has learned to live with it.
Original Misfits were the soundtrack to my life. I'm in my 40's now, same with my wife. For one of our anniversaries, we saw them in 2019. So it was kind of weird to hear this raw, spooky garage band years later with these great stage lights, props and screens. Danzig laughing and having a great time, Jerry stage sliding like no other at 60 and Doyle smashing on stage like the monster he is. Glad I got to be alive around this band!
The Story of Dig Up Her Bones is actually a lot more interesting than it seems. It was one of the first songs graves ever wrote and he actually ended up editing the lyrics to fit the theme and feel of the band
Really thankful I found your channel. Sick as a dog during my favorite time of year and your videos have been getting me through it. I appreciate the love for Astro Zombies. Underrated cut.
Graves era is my favorite. He has an amazing voice and puts a lot of vocal melodies over the lines. Walk Among Us may be my favorite album but American Psycho is a banger from beginning to end
I have a hard time deciding which era was better, then I realized I can enjoy both Danzig and Graves era without trying to decide which era is better. Both are different and unique, and both eras are badass!!
I've seen the Misfits with twice Graves, the "Project 1950" lineup, other Jerry-led lineups, and b/c I'm in NYC, twice with Glenn reunited... which was AWESOME! I kinda like Jerry's "Anti-Hero" record. It would SUCK as a Misfit record, but cool as a Jerry record. Like u said, he's doing it for the right reasons.
I can honestly say I'm grateful I never bothered to listen to anything after the graves era. Never heard project 1950 and thankfully my friends warned me about the last album
The 12 Hits mix is so good. Too bad it never was released. Henry Rollins does a good review of the album. Every Danzig-era Misfits album is great and so special for different reasons. Static Age is also my favorite though.
I remember the 1st time I ever listened to the Misfits back in 98. I was 14 years old and borrowed the Collection compilation album and was hooked ever since. It was my 1st introduction to punk music and I was hooked ever since. Danzig is one of the greatest vocalists I’ve ever heard. From the Misfits to Samhain and to Danzig!
Wow You did a FANTASTIC job on this. Congrats! \\ The review of Static Age was the highlight. // What a great video you put together. That is some serious work dude, be proud of this one!
I recently saw the original lineup of The Misfits last Saturday at the Prudential Center and was amazed at how good Danzig vocals are at 68. They put on a hell of a show. Would definitely go again if they play there next year. I too am also a big Michael Graves era fan of the Misfits. I had an opportunity to meet him at a Chiller theater and he was really cool to talk to. It would be cool to see Graves take the stage with the band again for a few songs but I know it will likely never happen.
I was there too. Fantastic show! I just wish they would play longer sets, but they are pretty old so I get it. If Danzig, Only, Doyle, and Graves could all share a stage that would be cool too, but that be even more unlikely than a 90s Misfits reunion.
The misfit’s are the greatest punk band of all time, the misfits are the epitome of punk, Danzig wrote so many great songs, amazing songs, I grew up listening to the misfits and Danzig, I have two Danzig tattoos and I’m gonna get a misfit tattoo, my last tattoo
I don't usually comment on TH-cam videos, but I gotta give you props. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I really like how you explain things. I learned so much! I had no idea how Jerry Only got his name, or that "Who Killed Marilyn?" was a solo single from Glenn Danzig. And I also learned that "Die, My Darling" was recorded for Walk Among Us, and now I can totally see that. I've been a Misfits fan since the early nineties, and I thought I knew everything about them. I almost didn't watch the video because of that, but I'm glad I did. You've got yourself a new subscriber. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Been a fan since 1980. Seen many retrospectives etc etc.. This is the best. Well put together and researched🤘💀 And '138' is a cop call sign for 'bad guy' 😁
I’d say Hybrid Moments is my favorite Misfits song from the Danzig era, but my favorite version is the one from Legacy of Brutality, I just love how the drums sound in the intro
Man. Your on point. Awesome . I've never heard better reflections.. your a young guy.. I lived through those years. You really understand the music.. take care
My friend worked at Camelot Music in the mall and told us to come in and steal whatever we wanted. I filled my backpack with whatever looked cool. One of the CDs I ended up with was Static Age. After listening the first time I was blown away. How had I never heard this before? It was and still is my all time favorite album.
What an excellent documentary. The best on the topic to be honest... Then I read your response to some comments. You're really talented man, but keep the politics out of it. Subscribed. Cheers.
01:03 🎸 The Misfits transformed from struggling locally to becoming iconic due to their image, catalog, and live performances, despite never hitting big commercial success until the '90s. 02:11 🎤 The Misfits birthed horror punk, blending punk with horror aesthetics, though musically, they weren't vastly different from their non-horror counterparts. 03:05 🌟 Glenn Danzig formed The Misfits out of a disdain for corporate rock, recruiting members and drawing inspiration from horror films and Elvis. 07:38 🎶 "Static Age," initially rejected by labels, became a cornerstone of punk history and stands as a favorite release due to its iconic tracks like "Last Caress" and its groundbreaking nature. 10:16 💀 Despite "Static Age" not heavily showcasing horror elements, tracks like "Bullet" and "Return of the Fly" hinted at The Misfits' future macabre direction. 14:57 🚀 "Hybrid Moments" from "Static Age" emerged as a deeply personal, emotive Misfits song, highlighting rare themes of emotional vulnerability amidst their otherwise dark discography. 17:22 🎨 The Misfits' iconic horror look, with skulls, black attire, and the Crimson Ghost logo, solidified their image, though they borrowed certain logos without copyright repercussions. 20:33 🇬🇧 The Misfits' UK tour with The Damned soured due to financial issues and instrument problems, culminating in them leaving the tour early, leading to wild adventures in London, including a jail stint for Glenn and a songwriting session. 22:50 🎶 "Walk Among Us" is the quintessential Misfits album, a powerful mix of Powerpunk riffs and evil Elvis-style vocals that define the band's style and mission. 24:08 🧟♂ "Walk Among Us" is like stepping into a haunted mansion filled with ghoulish fun-a party album that feels like the best B movie night with friends. 25:23 🎤 Glenn's use of 'woes' in the classic Misfits/Danzig songs added character and meaning without even needing words. 26:19 🧟♂ The Misfits' song "The Living Dead" isn't specific to the film but encapsulates the essence of zombies, adding a thrilling vibe to the album. 27:28 🎸 "Devil's Whorehouse" has a unique percussion sound on the left channel, creating an odd but compelling element within the song. 28:32 🎶 "Astro Zombies" could have been the Misfits' defining song, anthemic and triumphant, showcasing Glenn's powerful vocals and fantastic production. 30:21 🤘 The Misfits faced internal issues, with Glenn wanting a metal direction while dissatisfaction grew with other band members' limitations. 31:15 🔊 Glenn's dissatisfaction with "Earth A.D." stemmed from production issues, thin vocals, and dissatisfaction with the album's overall recording. 32:47 🎸 "Earth A.D." showcased the Misfits transitioning into hardcore punk influenced by bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag. 34:26 💀 "Die Die My Darling," despite being recorded during the "Walk Among Us" sessions, fit remarkably well into "Earth A.D." and remains one of the Misfits' well-known tracks. 35:28 🎵 Glenn's dissatisfaction with "Earth A.D." resonates with the album's hardcore production style, not aligning with his preference for more layered textures. 36:22 🐺 "Wolf's Blood" on "Earth A.D." is the most ferocious, capturing the Misfits' only truly scary moment on record, emphasizing a visceral experience. 39:48 🎤 Michael Graves joined the Misfits as the frontman, a change embraced by some but criticized by others due to the band's departure from Glenn Danzig's era. 40:58 🎸 The 90s Misfits, led by Michael Graves, appealed to a different generation but faced criticism for not matching the intensity of the original Glenn Danzig era. 44:51 🎬 American Psycho album included songs based on movies, but some felt less substantial, though tracks like "Shining" stood out for their energy and performance. 46:31 🎤 Michael Graves faced conflicts within Misfits, leading to a hiatus, yet Hideous briefly replaced him; later, Graves returned before the band shifted to Roadrunner Records. 48:01 🎶 "Famous Monsters" marked a high point post-Danzig era for Misfits, improving upon the foundation laid in "American Psycho," offering better tracks and refined elements. 49:24 🧟♂ The video for "Scream" from "Famous Monsters," directed by George A. Romero, involved drama, including Michael Graves missing the shoot, altering the production. 53:23 🎸 "Descending Angel" stands as a pinnacle of post-'83 Misfits, demonstrating a powerful sonic landscape and a compelling vocal performance from Graves. 54:12 💔 Internal conflicts led to significant departures from Misfits, leaving Jerry as the only original member, drastically altering the band's dynamics and sound. 55:39 🎶 "Project 1950" was a cover album by Misfits members and others, widely criticized for its poor execution and Jerry Only's lackluster vocal performance. 57:30 🎙 The album "Project 1950" was regarded as a misstep, lacking the reverence for Misfits' legacy, feeling more like a side project than a cohesive Misfits record. 58:13 🗣 Jerry Only's vocal performance in "Project 1950" drew heavy criticism for its flatness and lack of quality compared to the original songs covered. 01:02:07 🎸 In "The Devil's Reign," Misfits showed slight improvement, but the album was ultimately labeled mediocre, lacking the classic Misfits' essence and feeling overly drawn out. 01:04:52 🎵 "The Devil's Reign" album, while not entirely bad, was considered mediocre, with few standout tracks, suggesting listeners opt for specific songs rather than the full album. 01:05:34 🤘 The Misfits faced changes in their lineup, including Dez leaving due to health issues, replaced briefly by Jerry's son, leading to releases that didn't stand out in the band's history. 01:05:48 🤘 Misfits reunion happened in 2016, surprising many, uniting Jerry, Doyle, and Glenn Danzig at Riot Fest after years of tensions and failed talks about reunions. 01:06:57 🎸 The reunited Misfits have played sporadic dates since 2016 with AC Slade and Dave Lombardo, sounding great, but limiting shows mostly to big US markets and a few in Mexico. 01:07:25 💰 Fans eagerly await a world tour or a new record, willing to spend big, showcasing the enduring demand for Misfits' music. 01:07:53 🎶 Despite potential interest in new music, the prospect of a new Misfits album seems unlikely due to differing perspectives between Jerry, Doyle, and Glenn Danzig. 01:08:52 🔥 The Misfits' influence endures through various bands, with their classic songs and even the Graves era being acknowledged for their impact, cementing their place in music history.
I think Michale Graves was a great singer for the Misfits. Those 2 records, if you go back now and listen, they’re actually really good. I go to those albums a lot.
I found out only a few days before the show the Misfits were playing in Tampa. Took my 22 year old son who’s a bass player with me on the three drive to see them. I think he had more fun than I did. Once in a lifetime opportunity.
Me too. Graves era American psycho was cool to come out and get the fresh ripping version, but def the last misfits album I would get. Great band and the 50-60s surfer punk with Elvis swooning about the black and white horror movie era of death space , Martians, and sex. Love it still.
That Famous Monsters - Saturday Night track... I think opened up a lot of doors for the future of horror punk and all the "boo wop" that came afterwards with Blitzkid, Mister Monster, Die Monster Die, Dead Next Door.... there's a LOT... ("Motherfucking Browns", Lurking Corpses, Under a Nightmare, Cancerslug, Rosedales, Calabrese, Silent Horror, Creepshow 1977, Creepersin)
Whatta' great video, man! Usually i never stay till' end of this kind of videos, but this one is really great! And also i agreed with you on 99.99% hahaha Saludos from México 🤘
If only we could have gotten more albums from the 1990s era Misfits. They are what are inspiring me to pick up the guitar and bass again, with the possibility in looking into joining a band.
Love the Danzig era, love the Graves era. The only era I hate is the Only era I hate. 💀 Pretty decent review man. I feel like you coulda dug a bit deeper at some points though. For instance, Myke Hideous has so many problems with Jerry and crew that getting him back would never happen. Hideous wrote about his time in the Misfits in a book he put out 10+ years ago. Jerry pretty much would never work with him again either, so… Honestly, I think we might get a new album out of the Misfits… I just think they’re being real quiet about it while working on other stuff too. That’s my take anyway…
Glenn Danzig is kind of like the Quentin Tarantino of music. The Misfits got me into old campy horror, and I developed an appreciation for Elvis and the Doors. How the Danzig era of the band started out doing rockabilly-inflected first-generation punk and ended doing something anticipating goregrind (think Repulsion or Impetigo) is fascinating!
I've also heard conflicting info about Doyle's entrance into the band. According to Glenn, Bobby steel was blowing off rehearsals and recording. according to Bobby, Jerry intentionally gave him wrong rehearsal and recording times to make him look bad so he could shoehorn his brother Doyle into the band since things were already getting rocky. Doyle's version is simply that Bobby didn't show up so Glenn said "fuck it, you play it" or something to that degree. My source is a combination of what they have told me when I've met them and piecing together different interviews online lol.
Yeah those are exactly what I heard also. Whichever one is the truth it doesn’t matter because Doyle should absolutely be the guitarist for the Misfits.
I saw the Jerry Only Misfits with Anthrax and Canabal Corpse. I saw a special Halloween show with members of the Ramones, Black Flag and the Misfits performing songs by all three bands with different configurations. The whole point is that it was always a great show and never a let down even with different line ups.
The way you explain the musical elements on songs funnily enough reminds me of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. In the best way of course, it's very endearing, I'm here for it.
I’m guessing you and I are same age range because I will always stan the Graves era songs despite some cheese ball stuff. Great video, as I’ve learned a lot from this. Had no clue about the Scream video, and short period replacement for Graves.
I'm 50 and grew up on the east coast, US. This was the music of my childhood/teenage years/young adult years, and today. Music has a way of sticking around like that. It's timeless because it's reminiscent. It can do no wrong. In that way, it lasts forever. That said, thank you for this retrospective. I'm thrilled that younger folks are into the same music as I was. I have a grandson now, and he will get a proper music education from videos like this. Oh, and FUCK TRUMP!
Nice analysis. love your Smiths poster too. I can hear the Elvis/crooner influence now that you mentioned it. I think bands like Face To Face show this influence
Static Age is, on its own, one of the greatest records ever made. It's weird that I don't like anything else Misfits have done. I've tried. Over and over. The other albums do nothing for me.
Static Age is my favorite too, but I think Walk Among us and Earth A.D. are both pretty good but anything album that doesn't have Glenn's voice on I can't get into
I’m kind of surprised you didn’t highlight American Psycho’s “They Came From Hell” and even lumped it in as one of the “forgettable tracks” on the album. Man, I think that song is the absolute centerpiece gem of the LP.
Happy Halloween, Comrades. EDIT: Also, to everyone commenting getting mad at me making fun of Michale Graves and his conservative views. Let me give you even more ammo to be engaged by; I am Bi, Trans Rights are human rights, Black lives matter, Free Healthcare & Education for all, Punk Rock is anti-conservative by nature, and it is objectively funny as shit that Trump is currently being indicted. Now, go ahead. Comment and complain like the illiterate boomers you are! FEED THE ALGORITHM, YOU FOOLS! OWN ME BY GETTING MY CHANNEL MORE VIEWS AND SUBS, YOU BRAINDEAD DUMBASSES!
Punk rock is anti establishment y nature not just conservative. All that woke shit u listed is establishment nonsense so basically ur a hipster not a punk. This was a good vid tho don’t be such a try hard about politics it’s pretty lame
Punk Rock is anti-authority by nature, regardless of what side of the coin it comes from. Liberal or conservative, it comes from the same coin. The major authority in the late 70's and 80's when punk was starting up was conservative, which is probably where you get the idea that it's anti-conservative. These days the main authority is from the liberal side. Anyone who tells me how to speak or live my life in any way can f**k off, I don't care if they are liberal or conservative.
Thanks for this video man. I just recently became a misfits fan through my cousin and wanted to learn more about the band. My god what a journey but I certainly enjoyed learning about their complex history. Thanks again for the documentation
ummm, work on college work for a dead line or watch a 1 hour video about one of my fav punk bands?.... I don't think this is a hard choice *clicks video*
@@ScoopedMids HELL YEAH!!! also really good video btw! I really love these retrospective video u do, u actually got me in to the distillers and now I really love ablums like Coral Fang and sing sing death house. Thanks man!
I was listening to this again for the second or third time since your first put this out and heard you use the term "perfectly cromulent." Comedy fucking gold!
I love all eras of The Misfits to be honest even the 1950 cover tape, there’s just something about them, to me they never lost their vibe even with the line up changes, they continued to have legendary songs in every era
The thing about the misfits is when they first started their sound was very unique and interesting. Even when they bordered on novelty. It was still something unique. When they came with Graves and after. It's just full on novelty.
I love Blairing Out with Eric Blair. He always gives the best interviews as he listens a lot. Him and I are from SoCal, he's a professional makeup artist/esthetician, I'm a hairstylist so I use to run into him at conventions. Great guy. Don't listen to toxic comment trolls. We're all American with the freedom to be what we want so you do you and keep up the great content!
Apologies in advance for the novella of a comment. I keep coming back to this video since I found it a few months ago. Great video. Probably the only complaint I have about this video is the part about Myke Hideous as his history with the Misfits is a rabbit hole on it’s own from what he has said in interviews. He knew some of the band members back in the 80s around the Kryst The Conquerer days and even auditioned as their singer before they got Jeff Scott Soto and I believe he also helped out with some of the promotional art (I’m going from what was said in interviews and I may have forgotten a few details so don’t take everything I say as pure fact, check out some interviews). Jerry even visited Myke in the hospital when he was dealing with health problems at the time. According to Myke, he was used by Jerry to gather material (bootlegs of misfits music I think) that would be used in the lawsuit against Danzig. He was young and naive at the time and by admission he wasn’t comfortable about being involved with Jerry’s nonsense as he has nothing against Glenn. Saying that (allegedly) Glenn called Jerry a control freak. It doesn’t stop there, he also auditioned for the Misfits back in 95 before they went with Graves and when he did join as a fill-in singer in 98 after the initial breakup of his band The Empire Hideous, things weren’t smooth either. Myke, while looking back at it as one of his best performances as a frontman, he also recalled it as being miserable too. Being close to loosing his voice on tour, not being allowed to participate band meetings and generally being treated poorly by his “bandmates”. He was told by Jerry to write lyrics as they were going to work on new music but was later fired over the phone because they wanted Michael Graves back. Makes me wonder what famous monsters would have been like has Myke was still part of the band. Those lyrics were later used and reworked in Myke’s later band SpySociety99. Myke wasn’t fond of the graves era in general, make sense since he was an old school fan (as for my opinion, I enjoy it as much as the Danzig material). As for Michael Graves, apparently they did try to get him back in the band and he replied with something like “fuck you and fuck Myke Hideous” because... of course. He hates Myke despite never interacting with him once during that time. Myke even tried to extent an olive branch to Graves to talk it out for his film Living in American Nightmare to get his side of the story but he blew him off. Myke would later reform The Empire Hideous for a few more years until 2011 when Myke retired from music to focus on his visual art (which Peter Steele did pre production for their last album) and the aforementioned short lived spysociety99 (they did a cover of horror business that Danzig liked) and was in a band called Bronx Casket Company with Overkill bassist D.D. Verni from 1999 until 2007 (another band where he had no creative freedom because of publishing nonsense so he couldn’t write lyrics but later got to for one or two songs). It’s certainly an interesting history that I encourage you check out interviews with Myke Hideous for his side of the story. Also, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong because I’m probably missing a few details. As for my own thoughts, both in terms of the Misfits and his career in general, I feel bad for Myke. The guy is a really talented musician and artist that’s been screwed over so many times. From constant lineup changes in The Empire Hideous to being disrespected by everyone in the Misfits camp to getting screwed on his own film that was meant to be about his career but later became a bloated unfocused mess and to this day him and the guy who worked on the film with him have tensions which Myke wants to let bygones be bygones with. Despite his tough exterior, he seems like a nice dude. It sucks that he was treated poorly during his time in the Misfits because had he been treated better or if Jerry was smarter and reconciled after everyone left or something to that extent. We could have had a proper Hideous era with him on potential Misfits albums instead of Jerry on vocals. Check out his music, show the man some love.
Thanks for the comment. I never really knew much about the Myke Debacle and this is the best comment I've gotten about it, some others have said that he got fucked around but didn't specify how. And yeah, I wish he would've come back after Graves left or something because I did dig his voice in the bootlegs I've seen. Sorry for kinda skimming over that stuff in the vid, as you could probably tell I spent a lot of time researching and I didn't really give too much thought into his shortlived tenure. I'll give his stuff a shot at some point, cheers.
@@ScoopedMids It’s certainly an interesting topic. One that I’ve contemplated making a video on it myself on my Boneheaded Tunes channel some time after I finish my Type O Negative Slow Deep and Hard video. I’ll have to re review those interviews and other resources before I start writing a script. Glad I provided details for you that people didn’t elaborate on, I love digging up this stuff and telling people about it.
Oh the much contested pronunciation of the Danzig project sandwiched between his best creation and his mainstream project. Either way, awesome job on the video. The crimson ghost was my first tattoo so I'll let that speak to my love of the whole history and discography of these wild fucks.
Heard The Misfits for the first time the day before I went to 3rd grade 😂 instantly loved them, I'm 26 now and been a fan ever since. Crimson Ghost was even my first tattoo 🤘💀
Wow. Very nice man. I toward listening to punk music in the middle of the 80s and of course the Misfits was one of my favorites. Thank you for all the amazing information.
Check out my Samhain Retrospective! th-cam.com/video/3r5MX3_kcXk/w-d-xo.html
Epic bro!!!! 👏 🤘
That’s unheard of. A Grateful man with just the right amount of celebrity fame. 🎉🎉

Jerry's misfits are platinum dunes remakes lmao
I dont like the Only era but the title track off Devils Rain does something for me, it's the only Only song I like
That Project 1950's album was pure cringe. Way too cheesy and not good Cheese. Rotten moldy Cheese at an unfathomable level never seen before
Monkey's Paw is one of their best songs, IMO.
Good analogy
I saw Danzig/Misfits in the early 90s. And this young punk next to us kept flipping Glen the bird and yelling obscenities and Glen warned him. It wasnt long and Glen shot off the stage about 25 ft out and tackled this annoying punk. Then began to beat him while singing the whole time the band never missed a beat. And needless to say the punk stopped flipping his birds. and the crowd cheered. What a great show!!!
Soooooo did you see Danzig or the misfits? Danzig wasn’t with the misfits in the 90’s, he was with his band - Danzig.
@@danevertt3210 , yes is the answer
@@jerrymay4338 Yes they did!
😂😂😂😂😂😂 im picturing this whole scenario and LMAO. That is an amazing story.
@xeroinfinity No you didn't Glenn Danzig left the Misfits in 1983 and wouldn't play with them again until 2016, also there're 2 "N's" in Glenn.
For a band as iconic as The Misfits I’m surprised there hasn’t been an official documentary by now. Great job!!!
For a band full of litigious members like the misfits I can understand why they never have
@@johnLennon255good call……although haven’t they began playing together again?
Not a doco, but Glens interview with pushhead is excellent. Extremely thorough and lots of cool insight from the man behind the misfits.
Man, I love how much you love the Misfits, like I do. You did a fantastic Job here, many many thanks, its a blast to watch it

The Misfits were the first punk band I admired as a 13 year old skater. To this day, still love listening to their highly influential music.
Walk among us
Jerry is one of the kindest people I've ever met...
How about a Cramps retrospective ?
Probably my favorite punk band of all time and hybrid moments is one of my favorite songs period.
It's perfect. Timeless
For me it's tv casualty
This retrospective is quite simply the very best. Thank you so much for posting this. I was not aware they toured w Myke Hideous & was completely floored after watching footage from those shows. i dare say that his stage presence far eclipsed all former, current & future band members.
Thanks, but jeez I wouldn't go that far.
Dude you’ve fully committed me with this comment. Next time they come anywhere near the east coast I’m there. Fangssss dude!
I've got my ticket purchased for the original Misfits in July. I couldn't be more pumped.
Yep, one of the most famous and recognizable drum beats in pop music history. Weird considering he mentions the Ronettes later in the video??
Thank you for giving flowers to the Graves era Misfits.Though they never will be the Danzig era....that "CarrolAnne "was an absolute monster tune. Many of us late 90s hardcore and graffiti kids 1st opportunity to see the Misfits live was this era.I remember everyone celebrated their entire catalog,Kay B Toy stories even carried Misfits Dolls of Jerry and Doyle.Great times in Fords,New Jersey.
The Misfits are so much better than they get credit for. Great video, good work.
So many questions
misfits were a force of nature, hadn't heard these songs in 30 years thanks for making this great doc
Probably the most in depth and amazing retrospec ive seen🤘❤️🔥
That's not at all interesting
Great video! This comes as close as it gets to a proper documentary. Thank you!
Really thankful I found your channel. Sick as a dog during my favorite time of year and your videos have been getting me through it. I appreciate the love for Astro Zombies. Underrated cut.
Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad these silly videos have been making your sickness a bit more bearable.
@@trendmassacre8423agreed, just enjoy it 🤘🏼😈
Graves era isn't Misfits IMO. Never will be. It's like the Doors without Morrison. I'm sure there are people who like those albums too.
oh yeah mine 2. i love the songs with Graves 🧪💥 best Era 🤌🏽💯
6:57 oh my gosh that baseline in cough cool version is amazing.! changes the dynamic of the song.
Only time you hear Steel and Doyle together, mixed anyway
I remember the 1st time I ever listened to the Misfits back in 98. I was 14 years old and borrowed the Collection compilation album and was hooked ever since. It was my 1st introduction to punk music and I was hooked ever since. Danzig is one of the greatest vocalists I’ve ever heard. From the Misfits to Samhain and to Danzig!
Wow You did a FANTASTIC job on this. Congrats! \\ The review of Static Age was the highlight. // What a great video you put together. That is some serious work dude, be proud of this one!
Thanks, dude.
Also an EXCELLENT cover of skulls was done by the Lemonheads strangely enough
Good stuff! Rock History without those Misfits Songs i can't imagine that.
Thank you Sir for the time and so on i really enjoyed the ride
I saw them
Last weekend in Arizona and thought damn, Glenn at 68 puts sooooo many other singers to shame. Axl, Vince…..
They are coming here to Tampa and I got tickets 1st day they were available. So fucking stoked!
Loved this retrospective man. Damn I love this band.
Just when I thought this video couldn’t get any better, you dropped cromulent. You certainly have been embiggened with a noble spirit.
Blunt, real, great pics, info flows, fantastic footage, also great dry humor, I subscribed bro. You will be big, glad to be here!
"aggressive post-punk" well said. Now it makes sense why The Misfits are weirdly always on my post-punk playlist 🖤 "come back" is one of the best
The “Vincent Price” bit took me all the way out.
This one’s for you, Jimbo.
thanks so much for this, its fucking amazing. loved this band for 30 years and i learned so much from your video.
Well put together and researched🤘💀
And '138' is a cop call sign for 'bad guy' 😁
Jon Mikl Thor claims he was asked to be the band's vocalist after Danzig left. I don't believe that for a second.
I’ve seen 2 reunion shows absolutely fantastic both times. Would love to see them a 3rd time.
Thanks for the great retrospective, good work! I am a huge Misfits and Danzig fan and I think you pretty much told it all, in a good way.
I love the way Danzig Frank Sinatra'ed his way through those songs.
I’d say Hybrid Moments is my favorite Misfits song from the Danzig era, but my favorite version is the one from Legacy of Brutality, I just love how the drums sound in the intro
Great video! I knew nothing about this band. Cant wait to see more
Man. Your on point. Awesome . I've never heard better reflections.. your a young guy.. I lived through those years. You really understand the music.. take care

Agreed. I used to avoid it for years then one of my friends told me to give it a chance . “famous Monsters” is one of my favorites
Saw a show in 95 when they first reformed, it was one of the best shows I ever saw.

If only we could have gotten more albums from the 1990s era Misfits. They are what are inspiring me to pick up the guitar and bass again, with the possibility in looking into joining a band.
This is an excellent video. This is the most detailed Misfits history video ive seen. Thanks making it mate. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the Danzig era, love the Graves era. The only era I hate is the Only era I hate. 💀
Pretty decent review man. I feel like you coulda dug a bit deeper at some points though. For instance, Myke Hideous has so many problems with Jerry and crew that getting him back would never happen. Hideous wrote about his time in the Misfits in a book he put out 10+ years ago. Jerry pretty much would never work with him again either, so…
Honestly, I think we might get a new album out of the Misfits… I just think they’re being real quiet about it while working on other stuff too.
Amazing video 🤘
The way you explain the musical elements on songs funnily enough reminds me of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. In the best way of course, it's very endearing, I'm here for it.
This is by far the most memorable way anyone has ever complimented my vids. Thanks.

Static Age is my favorite too, but I think Walk Among us and Earth A.D. are both pretty good but anything album that doesn't have Glenn's voice on I can't get into
Bloody Brilliant.
Misfitz still good .C.F.N.
I’m kind of surprised you didn’t highlight American Psycho’s “They Came From Hell” and even lumped it in as one of the “forgettable tracks” on the album. Man, I think that song is the absolute centerpiece gem of the LP.
Happy Halloween, Comrades.

Punk rock is anti establishment y nature not just conservative. All that woke shit u listed is establishment nonsense so basically ur a hipster not a punk. This was a good vid tho don’t be such a try hard about politics it’s pretty lame
Can you virtue signal a little harder? lol

@@alexanderalmondoffcial Thanks for the kind words
You're spot on in your assessment of Astro Zombies. Why it's not a more popular Misfits song eludes me. Great video essay 👏
This was amazing! Thanks.
Dude said Cromulent. That’s very embiggened of you. Great job!
