It’s funny when you pointed out how Danzig fucked up on N.I.B because He already did his version of it and it’s “Anything” from Danzig 3. Like if you read the lyrics it’s literally the same song just written differently but the intention is the same. Goes to show how far he fell from his glory days when he already paid respects to the greats, but as time went on he thought he could improve that song only to fail horribly lol.
Danzig 4 was the end of something so special, it was the top of the mountain. It was a masterpiece and a very important transition in my life. All down hill from there.
I remember waiting for that album's release and speculating over it with my friends. I want to say I bought it the day it dropped, but I know it was within the first week. It was thirty years ago. Hard to fathom. Time flies.
You are spot on. I was just blown away at how amazing I was and then at how awful V was... Truly heartbreaking when one of your favorite bands shits the bed... And not once but continously... 5, 6, 7 all the rest is pure shit.

Ashes and Come to Silver were good. Ashes is really a good Danzig song. See All You Were is decent. There were songs on all the subsequent albums and Satan's Child was imo a very good album. Death Red Sabaoth was good, with Left Hand Rise Above being as old school Danzig as you could ask for. That said, Lucifuge and How The Gods Kill are good enough to be in my top 5 favorite albums of all genres.
Oh the disappointment I felt.. I wanted to go to where Glen lived and demand a refund. Cuz back then, we scrimped and scraped to save up for a new tape/cd so when you ended up with a turd, it hurt cuz it'd be at least another month or more before you could get another new jam. And it was a no brainer (so I thought) buying the new Danzig. But top to bottom it was an absolute turd.
Last year I was super sick and found your channel and fell in love with your content and I’m beyond happy that you made a Danzig retrospective. It made my Halloween. I would love if you made a Replacements retrospective at some point. Keep up the good work!
Your retrospective documentaries on all things Danzig are spot on! Loved the Samhain and Misfits one you did as well. Glad I stumbled on your videos my friend. 🔥😎🔥
Say what you want about Danzig, he is one of the most influential musicians and creators ever to love. The misfits, Samhain and Danzig are seminal works that have influenced numerous artists.
Great vid as always! Seeing this video made me really happy because I went on a bit of a Danzig binge last year but lately over the last month or so I’ve been returning to the first 3 records and the EP a lot, and enjoying them more and more with every listen. Lucifuge is probably my favorite as of late. The blend between blues and metal sounds so good and unique, I love it so much.
I did enjoy this! I Luciferi and Circle of Snakes are great records in my opinion. I think the lowfi elements of the later records were a reaction to the positive response to the Misfits reunions. Thanks for the grear video and happy Halloween!
I always listen to Black Angel White Angel in particular that song is great. I don’t mind the Deth Red Sabaoth album either, I never had a lot of issue with his later stuff at all like a lot of people.
Glenn Danzig has always meant a lot to me too. I have been listening to his music since childhood. I have met him several times, I have a collection of his comic books. I have his necklace. (Like literally, he gave one to me when I was in my 20s, it’s a real silver upside down cross with a Danzig skull on it ) He was my favorite singer until Till Lindemann showed up. I also listen to Eerie Vons music.
4 was soooooo mysterious. I love the cardboard sleeve too. I wore the black danzig shirt with the white skull. For 4 yrs in high school. I seriously thought it was lucky l o l
I know I am very much in the minority here, but I do like every Danzig record, to some extent. Nothing compares to the classic era, but each album after still has good stuff. Mind you, the more recent albums would have been better served with a different producer/engineer, as those albums tend to have a smothered kind of sound. Also, the abuse he heaped on his voice for so many years has taken its toll and it is very obvious on those later albums.
I have two Danzig tattoos and two Misfits tattoos, I’m a Christian man and my favorite band is Danzig, I used to be the biggest meth head and Danzig is great music for the devil’s drug, Glen is one of the greatest singer songwriters who ever lived, Chuck’s drumming is legendary, the drumming on devil’s plaything is unbelievable, they say never meet your heroes but I would love to meet Glen and John, I think these guys really shaped me as a musician, I’ve listened to mother a million times and it never gets old and I even have the lyrics not about to see your light tattooed on my back along with a huge Danzig skull on my upper back, I got my first Danzig tattoo as soon as I turned 18, way back in the day, I sold my guitar and amp to pay for the tattoo
Yeah….love old school Danzig! Rick Rubin really shaped the early sound of Danzig. After Danzig and rick parted ways , Danzig really went downhill. Danzig really had some interesting lyrics in the misfits, Samhain and early Danzig. The original group had great chemistry also. The first 2 albums really stood out in the midst of glam metal. Love the early stuff! Thanks !
Glen kinda turned into a characature of himself. He should have recorded the Elvis covers 30 years earlier. I do pick up the Elvis influence in his vocals but more so Jim Morrison (the doors) Lucifuge was my jam back when it came out.

I can tell you put effort in it, so I understand it takes a minute to put these together. Anyways, keep it up, maybe a Slipknot retrospective and maybe you can expand such as other genres. Some Nick Cave/Birthday Party or Reverend Horton Heat vids would be cool. I loved the X retro. Thanks for being inclusive, another TH-camr (cough cough) Finn Mckenty, who claims to be punk is a conservative. Those people need to stay away from Rock/Metal/Punk! This music is for the outcasts of the world and we want to keep it that way. Take care.
I saw Danzig on the first two tours and in 1999 when his voice had seen better days. I last saw him in 2005 and during the open notes of How The Gods Kill I yelled Yeah! Glenn gave me a knowing nod and gave the best single performance I ever saw in person.
The first 4 Danzig albums are nothing but classic!!! After the original band broke up he never got that Magic back. There’s still some great music afterwards but nothing like those first 4.
Glenn Danzig was the gift that kept on giving. From The Misfits, Samhain, Danzig to his obvious influence in music in the past 40+ years. Was a huge Misfits fan as a teen and found Samhain and Danzig cassettes while roaming around in a huge Goodwill bin outside of a wally world, pretty sure they’re somewhere around my parent’s house. Even though I rarely listen to punk nowadays, I’ll jam Misfits or albums Misfits/Danzig obviously influenced like AFI’s Black Sails../Art of Drowning/Shut Your Mouth… any day.
I am really forgiving when it comes to Danzig...but it ended after Danzig 4 for me....especially after seeing him live after that..with or without Doyle...Things ended for me after seeing him live at the Lokerse Feesten in Belgium and throwing a hissy fit..actual leaving Doyle clueless on stage on his own...
YEARS ago I read that Glenn completely blew his vocal chords during the Danzig 5 tour. I wish I could remember where I read this, but it makes sense due to his "wispy/hoarse" vocals on 6:66.
My favorite danzig story is from a friend of mine. He was listening to Misfits and his wife said that sounds like danzig" lol. Occasionally we'll bring it up for a laugh.
My sister got my the first press of Danzig on Def American records from a $1 bin at a Pawn Shop in 1999 just cause she knew I would love the cover. I still have it in it's original case (how I never cracked it is beyond me) but I must have listened to it at least 500 times and it's not scratched at all on the playing surface. It's gotta be protected by some demon force cause it's 36 years old now and for a cd that was once at a radio station copy it still sounds amazing.
I go back and forth on which is my favorite album between 1 and 2. For consistency I would have to say the first album is my favorite, but for music and soul the second is my go to.
If you keep up the trend of rockstars obsessed with horror movies and Halloween, a White Zombie retrospective would be absolutely awesome. I feel like they never get enough credit despite being as popular as they were
How could you not go over Brand New God and Bringer of Death for Danzig 4 . They are heavy as f-ck and the only good tracks in an otherwise weak and poser album. But that criticism aside, I really enjoyed your video! Well done and I'm glad you were able to use audio clips from the albums! Something in me makes me want to see a King Diamond retrospective from you, for some reason 😂

Although not as classic, I probably go back to Danzig 6 more then any album now. I love it. Danzig 5 is only slightly more enjoyable then St. Anger. I really enjoy every album after that. Biggest criticisms is the over use of pinch harmonics and poor mixing. I'm more of a metal guy then a blues guy so those later albums hit me harder.
Best song on Deth Red Sabboth has got to be Left Hand Rise Above, & Pyre of Souls:Incantation. They really showcase his vocals & that he could still hit the notes.
Great recap! Agree that the 1st 4 albums are gold. Red Deth Sabaoth is good as well. Outside of that I don't care for anything else in the discography.
Snakes of Christ and Sex type thing are more borrowed from War Machine (Kiss). STP changed the last note or two in the progression, but I think Danzig kept it the same or similar.
LOVE DANZIG 5….BLACKACIDEVIL was better anything NIN came up with…..there are some great tunes on there. Such as “Power of Darkness”, “”Ashes”, “Serpentia” & Hint of Her Blood”….LOVE IT!!! Just my opinion 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I dated this stripper I really was in love with. Well she was only a stripper for a season. She ened up running her own little shop that sells countercultural merchandise, best way I can describe it. Don't know why I included all that. But anyway one of my few trips to her workplace included her dancing for me to She Rides. She was an artrractive girl.

was better anything NIN came up with…..there are some great tunes on there.
How do you feel about his song off the X-Files soundtrack? If you covered it in the video, I missed it. Great work!
