Just bought a Factory 1100 -20. Thanks alot for your videos, great for me to learn about the bike. Will give her a spa treatment soon. Still winter and snow here in Sweden so maybe in some weeks she is ready :)
I also chipped the oil pan on a kerb a few years ago but i checked regularly for a while and it still holds the plug ok. Maybe the bike needs a bash plate!
Thank you for the tip on the oil plug washer. I am going to change my oil in the Aprilia for the first time and this video is my "got to" video. Love your accent please keep up the good work.
Good video, Castrol Power 1 (full synthetic) is excellent oil, I do prefill my oil filter to the top (it all absorbs) before installing, I always use a new genuine crush washer and have never used a torque wrench to install - just do it up until it seats and nip it up, has never leaked. In the video I notice those cracks under your sump plug which are a concern.
Thank you very much for the video and the time in the explanation! My question, after I changed the oil and rode the motorcycle several times, how much oil should I have in the engine, which I check with a dipstick, half or 3/4 or...
Hi, if you filled it up properly during the oil change, the level should not go down much even after several rides, just remember the Aprilia recommended way of checking the oil level 👍
Generally speaking, deduct 20% of the dry torque specification if the threads are lubricated. So the 30 Nm for the drain plug would become 24 Nm when it's oily. www.southbayriders.com/forums/threads/149439/page-3
I just wanted to change my oil and I cracked the oil tank with the key set at 20 Newton/Meter. After that I talked to a mecanic to understand the error. He said that all the time for oil change, the screw should be tightened by hand without forcing. I'm writing this in order to avoid this big mistake for other people.
But according to Aprilia if you don't torque it to 20 Nm the crush washer will not expand and seal properly so the bike will be sipping oil out the whole time
I understand the theory, I followed it and this and it broke the oil tanker. My Tuono is a 2017. In the manual of 2017 there's no details about it. Maybe the oil that stays there after it drains reduce the friction to a point that only the hand can feel the right pressure. Remember, the tanker is very fragile.
Hi Dan, that is good on old bikes because of the inefficient oil pumps, with modern bikes and modern oils that stick better to the engine parts that is not really necessary unless you rebuild the engine and it's totally dry, besides if the filter is below the full line, it will fill up before you get to the max line. On a positive note, it doesn't hurt to do it 😀👍 but mostly, kudos to you for doing it yourself 👏

Hi Albes…. Your bike also after the service when you start it up for the first time also shows lower pressure oil light for 1 sec and then is normal?? Thanks for the video
Good video bro. One year a used the same Castrol oil on my tuono 2018 factory and the bike sometimes was missing gear changes. Changed back to Motul 7100 5w40 and the problem was gone. Had any problems like that with castrol?
I haven’t had any problems like that, I had a stumble between 3rd and 4th gear while using the quickshift, but it was there even before the oil change, now with the new exhaust it’s gone, I’m assuming it was a combination between rpm and flapper valve opening.

Sorry to hear, it's going to be a lot of fiddling. To start, try with a set of neednose pliers reverse squeeze, those that open when you squeeze them, and see if you can work it out. Good luck for now and let me know how it goes
Ok well try a lot of things i was able to make the washer turn on drain plug but not able to take it out (try everything) had to take a cutting knive and very carefully did a snatch on the soft alluminium and with a flat screw driver without dammage drain plug break crush washer 🥵🥵🏍💨👍thank for the advice and great video very helpfull
Hi Khalid, I don’t know why the F850GS has 2 nozzles, to bleed the brakes you use the top one because air bubbles will float to the top, I can guess that maybe the bottom nozzle is to completely empty the caliper, but it’s just a guess.
Hello there, yesterday I’ve just done my own first oil change as the bike went out of warranty 2 weeks ago. Now my question to you is as I can’t see in your video the colour of the oil. Mine was a bit chocolate brownie ish colour, after 3000miles as I’m not running the bike more then 3k with the same oil. So it’s your oil same colour? To bad I cannot attach a picture. I’m only using genuine parts and Putoline oil N-tech pro R+ 5W40 Thank you
Hi Cristian , I use Castrol synthetic oil , when it came out was the same color of the top crust of a creme brûlée, I’m not sure how to describe it better, it was brown but still clear, but that can change from oil to oil, (I used a green oil once, that was different 😁) as long as it doesn’t smell really burned, come out milky or there are metal shaving in it, you should be fine. 😀👍
break in oil has special properties that is unlike regular engine oil. It is meant to protect the components while allowing them to rub together and form proper bonds. The color may be a result of different additives, or some other reason.
I’m not sure about the 2020, the manual recommends 5w40 for the 2017 which is most likely the same for the 2020, but to be sure look at the owners manual for your specific year model 😀👍
Hi Albe's, very good video! I did my oil change by myself too, my bike is only 5600km. 2 years old. Rare to use it, only weekend ride. But the problem is I changed the oil this year on January, and last week i check my dipstick and the oil below low level, that's more than 600ml oil short! And from January until September I only ride for 2600kms. I read on the forum that Tuono v41100 burnt oil. Do you have the same problem too?
No I don’t, especially with the Tuono where any imperfection can cause a leak, I do for other bikes like the Scrambler or the YZ etc, but the Aprilia’s crush washer expands to the sides into a grove on the oil pan and usually deforms when removed.
Just got a 2017 V4 and I just broke the oil pan jejejeje What`s your instagram? I would love to ask you some questions about the bike since mine is the only one in my country and there is almost no info about
