My relaxed hair is flourishing and I implement every single one of these tips! Great video and a Happy New Year to you!
@ Ahley Powell. I also went natural in 2011 and just relaxed my hair in May 2022... Now, I'm watching all of these relaxer videos to find out how to care for it. I wash my hair once a week, detangle, and put deep condition and seat under a steamer. blow dry with a dyson on 80-90% dry hair. And I go in with a dyson straightener. I am natural but I love her recommendations
Something I learned recently is when you are traveling check the humidity of the place that you are traveling to. We went to Denver in December right before Christmas and the humidity was half that of the place that I live. Typically where I live the humidity is 78% in the winter. The time that we were in Denver the humidity wavered between 44 and 55%. We were there for over a week, so I had a wash day and didn't realize until I got out of the shower and my hair was a giant puffball almost instantly that the air was incredibly dry. I immediately had to go out and get a hair mask, deep condition and mask my hair just to mitigate the dryness. And then when I got home I went to immediate protective styles. And have had some form of protective style since then with week-long breaks in between. If I had realized the humidity was going to affect me so quickly I would have just gotten box braids before we went and kept my hair protected the entire time we were there. Live and learn.🤷🏾♀️
My hair is definitely protein sensitive. I used the aphogee 2 minute reconstructor and my hair was too strong! I ended up getting lots of breakage and could barely comb my hair 🥺 No more protein for me 🙅♀️
My hair was breaking, and I used the aphogee two min treatment- it was the worst experience.😩 A section of my hair at the front became a matted dreadlock. No matter what I did it would not detangle. I almost cut my hair off! I detangled it the next day and applied Olaplex, which worked well! My hair is more stronger now and has stopped shedding. 🙏
@@StyleDomination it's weird because I used to use it before, and that never happened. Not sure if it was because my hair was shedding. I think I will do the same as you Dom and throw it out too. Worst experience I've ever had!
I love, love, love what you said at the end. I love my hair regardless of the texture, though i relax. It took me a long time to realize how beautiful my hair... Our hair... Is... Love it!
Yes! This is actually helpful. As someone with healthy gray natural hair all these tips you mentioned I have used to retain length. ❤ I would add that having hard water can also cause hair breakage but like you mentioned in the video a chelating shampoo can help with that as well. 😊
I swear, Deena (my middle name!!!), when I gave up on trying to grow my hair, it started to grow. I gave up on the ridiculous hair care routines that weren't working and stopped messing with heat tools and the like. My hair loved that and it took off!

Yeah! Crazy, right? I can’t believe it either. Lol! And yep - it’s all mine! I have filmed an update video. The only annoying this about it now is that since it’s longer, it tangles so much more now.

I'm a former pro-stylist and know the benefits of good quality products. I have several satin and silk scarfs and bonnets, and all of my pillow cases are satin. I recently had my hair professionally relaxed. During the pandemic, I let it grow out naturally and used all Curlsmith products on my 3c hair. I noticed that as soon as I tried drugstore brands, my hair became tangled with fairy knots, was to comb through, and I began to dread shampoo day, and went to a salon and got it relaxed. The stylist used Mizani relaxer. I had to go back a second time, because the first time she applied it, it didn't take. She wanted me to come back that next week to redo it, but I told her I was afraid that was too soon and would wait for my next appointment in 3 months. At my next appointment, she may have left it in longer than before. It was straight for sure the second time. At my last appointment, the stylist said my hair was shedding and I told her to trim my ends. The shedding has stopped, but my hair seems thinner in the front and no matter how much I condition it (shampoo and condition once a week) it feels dry. Do you ever do protective styles? I really want to have my hair out all the time when I eventually relax. My hair generally loves protective styles lol but my edges don’t so I want to know if it’s possible to just leave it alone full time? By the way I love watching your content, love seeing such elegance!
I deep condition everytime I wash my hair, but I don't use regular moisturizing conditioner that often. Should I use both when I wash my hair or take turns each week?
Can I use any neutralizing shampoo with a relaxer? I use Mizani relaxer and was considering getting another neutralizing shampoo and condition from a different brand.
Love your videos! I really need some advice. I have relaxed hair and every year it grows out uneven and "wonky". I can't even get it to grow shoulder length because I have to end y up getting a cut every year. I also stretch my relaxers to 10 to 17 weeks. What can I do to finally retain length and stop uneven growth?
What is your hair like when you stretch that long? Is it dry? Are you deep conditioning weekly? Using protective styles? What strength relaxer are you using? Are you only relaxing new growth or all of your hair each time you relax? Can you share your daily/weekly routine?
@@StyleDomination My new growth is a bit dry and matted when I stretch that long, but I try to keep it moist weekly with my hair oil. Also, I can comb some of it but the rest I have to separate with my fingers. My beautician uses a regular strength relaxer. I go to the salon to get it washed and conditioned every two weeks.
Have you talked to your stylist about regular trims? I don't mean cutting an inch or two off regularly, I mean dusting the ends every two to four months? If you get rid of thin dead-ends periodically throughout the year instead of waiting until the end of the year you can prevent split ends from running up the shaft of your hair, thereby retaining more hair length.
I've been natural for two years ONLY because I want to go blonde. I'm wondering if it's possible to have relaxed and bleached hair.. I don't want to be natural forever.
Will you do a video on the controversy regarding relaxers & hair products that can potentially cause cancer? Have you stopped using certain products or has this changed your hair routine in any way?
No. I won't be. This happens every few years with varying beauty products like hair bleach, treatments like Olaplex, you name it. At this rate, we really should be living in bubbles as everything is giving people cancer.
Just crossed the 40 into 41 threshold and my relaxed hair is/has been breaking at the hairline but only at the part. Ive tried deep "nutritious" conditioners, massage, stopped using the good" shower cap, and generally coving it w/bonnets, hats, etc to alleviate ANY tension at the hairline. I did switch to silk and it has grown back a tad, jus a tad but it's extremely upsetting. Tonight I'm sleeping with it wet (gasp), I'll worry about the nap in the am.
i was using Olaplex and it worked but after a while, it's like it almost became ineffective. So, i switched to the Redken Acidic bonding concentrate product line and my hair looks better than ever! I would try that.
Hi Ruby! I'm working on a video now. Simply put, I literally was so depressed at the state of my hair, that I gave up on the huge hair care routine. When I did that and was too sad to style my hair, it took off. WHO KNEW
