    We used Moderate White as our main exterior color (LRV 74) with Alabaster as the trim color. It is light and bright, but has a softer look than the houses in the neighborhood with the stark white/black trim combo.

    I bought my old family home. For the first time since my parents bought the house on 1968 I painted the house NOT white. I did a pale green with a coral door. Yep pure SE Florida! 🌺🌴🌞

    I was all in on sea pearl and Swiss coffee until you mentioned green undertones. Would dove wing have a similar warm, creamy look without the green undertones? Or Farrow and Ball's pointing? You are the single most helpful source of paint advice on the internet. Thank you!!

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Susan, typically if something is warm and creamy, it might have some yellow undertones. Dove Wing has yellow and gray which can sometimes read...green. But also they kind of balance out. Have you looked at White Dove? That's my go to. :)

      Another thing to consider is if you are using any of the composite deck railings. Some deck railings will look dirty against whiter exterior.

    Used Benjamin Moore Pelican Gray and love it for exterior. Many tints to give it different looks in different light. It's not dark and depressing or white and boring. Kind of blue and kind of gray. Used BM Midsummer Night for doors. Amazing backdrop for cedar fence and all of my plants and flowers. By the way, enjoy your videos!

      My entire HOA would have a collective heart attack which would please me to no end. They are a hateful bunch. They allowed an entire home including the columns out front to be painted PeptoBismol pink even though the deed restrictions clearly state all homes have to be painted within a stated range of grey/beige.

    We went with Behr Light Granite which has a 72 LRV, but it still looks quite white. We live in a very sunny place, so even this creamy white is fairly bright. If I were to do it again, I might have gone with a lower LRV.

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that feedback! Helpful to those considering exterior paint choices. Yes, outside where you get a lot of light, you're going to get less nuance in the color for sure. But, nothing wrong with quite white!

    My HOA suggests using Anew Gray is the main exterior color with White Duck bands/outlookers and Iron Ore Fascia. Could this scheme also work in reverse with White Duck as the main color and Anew Gray for the bands? We have a stucco exterior. The Gray feels a little depressing as a main color.

    I’m building with Sherwin Williams Pure White, hopefully it won’t be too stark. The front of the house faces West, so maybe the warm afternoon light will balance it.

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you chose Pure White, you're probably hoping that it looks white, which it will. The LRV is 84, so it won't be too stark I don't think, but you might just not notice any undertones as much which is maybe what you're after. It'll look white! Haha!

    We are painting our exterior white-it’s between Greek Villa or Snowbound. It’s a modern bungalow but we’re going for the modern farmhouse look (white w/ black doors/accents and natural wood combo) What white would you suggest? Or what is the most common white used when doing this style? What color semi transparent stain would you use for the porch to complete the vibe? Thanks!!

    I have a two story 1886 home on a corner lot with a beautiful blue roof. Lots of gingerbread trim and a big front porch. Will go all white, but the question for me is...when everyone says a white paint will be much whiter outside...how much? It happened to my neighbor two weeks ago. "Patience" was supposed to be a warm creamy white, and it lightened considerably and turned lemony yellow on her, to boot. And this was trim color! She went to the SW store 20 times to view her choices in different lighting and then painted samples and moved them around, like you're supposed to. She had to stip the painters from using the garage color, it was so off.. some bloody undertone came out.
    Pretty disappointed In the outcome.
    Think part of her problem is she was trying to match a grey tone roof and body color with the warm tones of Patience and it didn't gel at all.
    But even samples can't mimic the large square footage these colors are applied on. I see mistake after mistake on color mixes, unless you go monochromatic or stick with white.
    My house is too exposed and visible for these kind of mistakes so I'm going with white...want the color to look like a shimmery old fashioned petticoat. Gray undertone to complement the blue roof. I'm a gardener, with pink climbing roses and clematis all over the porch. In the summer, that will add some color. I know the sample should be much darker, so Snowbound, Oyster White are supposedly too white to consider?

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue is in the small samples, compared to other whites, you can see the undertones, but, outside on an object as large as a house, with all that light, it will just look white. If you want to be able to see that color, you have to go darker. If you like Snowbound, you could look at something like Big Chill?

    What do you think about Sherwin Williams Toque White for an exterior house color? Also how difficult/problematic is it to maintain the appearance of white exteriors? Do white exteriors get dirty or show dirt SIGNIFICANTLY more than other colors or is it not so bad as some may assume?

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think Toque White is a great choice! I just recommend staying below an LRV of 80, which Toque White does, so it doesn't read so bright and helps conceal dirt etc.
