This is true; I also think the same. South Korea often experiences these kinds of man-made disasters. Everything could have been prevented, but it only gets worse. I hope nothing like this happens in the future.
So crazy how 3 of these happened on the 29th. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.
The bureaucracy of the society and the pressure from the higher ups is what is wrong witb the Korean society nowadays.
Most of these are avoidable, but its human negligence and greed which caused these accidents.
you clearly forgot about the worst air disaster of all times Korean Air flight 007 in 1983, 269 victims. While this was clearly a soviet missile downing the plane, it was an avoidable mistake by the crew flying over soviet airspace without authorization and at night. Totally avoidable tragedy. RIP
Even the ridiculed India would not make such a mistake, but the arrogant South Korea has always made mistakes
What a BS? Literally, it's not a random accident, it's a misfire fired by Soviet troops, and by the logic of the global situation and power at the time, the Soviet Union just didn't apologize very brazenly.
Don't forget the ' Bridge ' .
Maybe it's the rigidly hierarchical culture that makes it difficult for those in the ground to alert their bosses on problems.
SK needs to really do some soul searching and look at WHY they have such an awful track record despite being a relatively RICH country. it appears that culture of conformity and beaurocracy are largely to blame.
Pray for south korea!! 🥲
Are they sure not living on a regime? People keep dying because safety issues.
My sympathy 💔🥀
Oh man this country has suffered
Is it just me or is there somehow an unusual amount of these extreme disasters in SK?… Can someone explain? It seems a bit weird for an innovative and modern country like SK…
Seems like that there's a disaster every year in S.K
Geez.. they just can’t catch a break… 😢
Easily prevent to save some lifes. No hero in Korea only kdrama
🙏🏻🙏🏻😢
You forgot one more, 1 Sept 1983, Korean Airlines 007 shot down by a Soviet SU-15 that flew over Kamchatka Peninsula, west of Sakhalin.. the Captain, Chun Byung-In inadvertently piloted the plane through restricted Soviet Airspace, killing all 246 passengers and 23 crew members including 22 children under age 12 and U.S. Congressman Lawrence McDonald of Georgia.
MV Sewol , sampoong department store collapsed, Itaewon Halloween crowd crush are the major diasters of South Korea
Government negligence.
there was also the collapse of SungSu bridge. but SamPoong dpt store collapsing was the most huge impact on the society. I guess..
Looks more like aurcraft maintainance issue or human ertor in the first instance. The subsequent carnage may have softened if the instuments poles at the end were not placed with solid concrete foundation. All along an avoidable tragedy.
Wow, i had no idea about the arson atrack and earlier Busan plane crash, R.i.p, to all the victims, i have very vivid memories of watching the Itewan crush, (apologies for mispelling im just a dumb American), unfolding in real time thanks to youtube and social media like live streams and tiktoks.
SHAME ON SCMP FOR POSTING THIS
Sad start of year for Japan and Sad end of year for South Korea.
What happened in japan?
@@Walu355 On 2 January 2024 , Japan Airlines ( JAL ) Airbus A350 collided with Japan Coast Guard Dash 8 at Narita Airport runway.
@@Walu355January 1st, we had an earthquake and then the JAL crash on the 2nd and then a fire in Kyoto on the 3rd
There's no perfect
Nope! It’s that genius WALL
actually, the plane crashed into a small hill, like an embankment. If you see closely, the concrete wall was actually a bit far, and the plane was already destroyed before hitting the concrete wall, since the debris simply went airborne for a few seconds.
RIP 🙏 could the pilot not have turned it around beforehand to stop hitting the wall 😢 😞
0:35 Lee Ji Han Remembered
The iteawon and the ferry were caused by luck of communication, and greediness in ther leaders mostly the ferry incident it showed how humans we can be greedy
*no wonder that southkorea invented the squid game*
Because all korean people so proud about they self
Agora é superar esta grande tristeza, que é difícil demais. Uma dor imensa dentro dos corações familiares. Muito triste.
감사합니다.
Prayers for South Korea
감사합니다.
I thought Korea is suppose to be safer cause they dont typhoons and earthquakes.
Hardly any earthquakes - but they do have devastating typhoons every late summer/early autumn.
Appreciate this, it's outstanding work, total backing and gratitude as a proud U.S made Brilliant fan from Kanchan Pune India.
Why did SCMP put this compilation together when the sk doesn’t even want to revisit a number of these events? What’s the agenda here
The main question is why did you watch this if you think this is so unnecessary, and also care enough to edit your comment?
SCMP is international news, not in SK entirely What's the problem with that?
these bots be haters for no reason.
I don't get it either, it's like they want to show us that South Korea had also some major disaster in the past, and this plane crash was not the only major disaster in South Korea...
Well it's an international news channel under a CHINESE rule (clue's in the name), and believe me, the Chinese hate Korea more than you would want to know (like believing in the Korean Confucius rumor) so I always expect some negative bias against Korea in their videos.
RIP
감사합니다.
what is the purpose of this video? i mean china had more accidents in the past 3 decades
시련은 있어도 실패는 없다 계속 전진 할 것이다
TERLIHAT saat mendarat sudah TIDAK ada roda pesawat 😭
This is tasteless.
Why doesn't SCMP make a compilation about China's major disasters???
Because the recent South Korean crash of a South Korean plane in South Korea happened in South Korea, not China.
Because South Korea is a small country with too many disasters
@ggabor2489 but this video is not just about the recent crash.
@@cyberpunk2978 every country has a lot of disasters, unfortunately...
SCMP는 홍콩 언론사다. 어디가서 쪽팔리게 홍콩 = 중국 주장하는건 아니지??
Cherish this, it's exceptional work, full endorsement and appreciation as a proud U.S made Brilliant fan from Kanchan Pune India.
2:41 hah, Sampoong mall collapse, i remember this news go viral in my country TV station for 3 days straight, never happened for any news from South Korea before
terrible this country
please do not travel to there
너는 한국에 오지마. 재수없네. 너희 나라도 안갈테니 꺼져.
yup, terrible SARS and wuhan-19 virus host chiirona
Tasteless and disgusting comment
Semua parah dan fatal
This time is luckier, if the insurance Company is an international one, everybody Needs Money and korean household debts are so high, remember north korean and Russian are going to war for money
what about in 1989 on China about uprising? do they celebrate it or they erase it?
Oh so how many people does China have? I bet you believe one man was ran over by a tank right? do you even know what really happened back in 1989? I bet you only know the cut part used by the Western media to make it seems that China is evil. You need to read history and not just blindly follow what you heard.
BTW check the American history and other countries before comparing them to China. I am from the West and I know this, but why don't you?
believe china is celebrating it daily. just compare their lives today vs 1989. yes, there was change but did not meet 'western' standards but met 'local' standards
"what about this", "what about that" etc.
Whataboutism again
You must be fun at parties 😏
Honestly, seeing this makes me feel like I never want to board any airplane again in the future.
I think every number end in 4?
That’s what happens in capitalism. When profit is the goal, people’s lives and safety aren’t. I wonder why you don’t hear about any disasters like this in the REAL KOREA… all you hear about them is fake news of how “brutal” their “dictatorship” is… but the absurd events of the US colony in the south are just “business as usual”…..
