While it's possible that birds contributed to the engine failure, the pilot might have still been able to land safely if the concrete wall hadn't come into play. This is truly heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the families of the victims.
Yep ive seen other pilots of that same plane say that the pilots did a perfect by the bock belly landing, if it wasnt for that concrete structure i and nobody knows what would happen but at they would desintigrate in millisecond like it happened.
We don't yet know if the pilots forgot to deploy the landing gears or if they failed. It's unlikely they failed because they have triple redundancies. There is a backup lever where they can release the landing gears by just gravity alone and no power is needed. It's not the first time pilots have forgotten to deploy or missed the checklist (or an item on the checklist), especially when they are rushed.
@@Titan77012 It's required - IF they remember. There is no enforcement in the cockpit and no reminders. Gear up landings are not uncommon - pilots either forget becasue they're distracted or decided to disregard the checklist because they think they have no time (in an emergency, etc). They only had 7 minutes between the first landing attempt and the 2nd landing, and 7 minutes is not enough to run an engine-out checklist. The CVR transcript will tell us whether or how they did not deploy their landing gears.
It’s truly heartbreaking to think how close they were to reuniting with their families. So many questions about the design and decisions around the runway-things that might have prevented this tragedy. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this unimaginable loss. 💔
Pilot error was also a little bit involved- the turnaround time was so little the pilots couldn’t get gears down and landed with only 1/3 of the runway left

Its absolutely heart wrenching to think that they were probably coming back home to celebrate new years with their loved ones. And everything just ended and crumbled within seconds...
It's to house the localizer antennas which guide the aircraft in for landing. However it wasn't supposed to be rasied on a berm like a wall. It's supposed to be flat and flushed on the ground and the antennas can break away easily if impacted, to prevent fatal accidents exactly like this one. The problem is this specific airport built that berm contrary to safety guidelines that would've prevented this. Let's see what else will come out from the investigation. There will be a prelim report in about a month, then the final report in about 1-2 years.

Birds??? It looks like the landing gear failed and the pilot was hoping the plane would come to a stop before the runway ended. This is just so devastating. Why is there a wall so close to the runaway??? It should open space. Like, none of this makes sense.
It wasn’t the birds that caused the crash… it was the concrete barrier wall that caused the crash… that plane successfully landed without landing gears and would have come to a complete stop safely…

The most heartbreaking part is when the family didn’t even get to hear the voices of their loved ones for a long time, and to their surprise they won’t ever get to hear them anymore.
If you look closely in the video you can tell the pilots were trying to lift the plane of the ground after realising it wasn’t gonna stop but the tail touching the ground didn’t make that possible

The worst news anyone can get let alone over the festive holidays. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of those who perished. May they heal in time to come.
I think at that point as a person waiting for your loved one, you just want confirmation as soon as possible. Doing this privately could easily take another day, as they would have to look up all info for each and every passenger to find out where to relay the info. To sit there and wait would be excruciating .
Well Thais are primarily Buddhist, and one of the main beliefs of Buddhism is the concept of impermanence: all things come to an end. Perhaps he is just resigning himself to fate, coming to terms with the reality that his daughter is deceased and can only move forward from that.
The "wall" was the Instrument Landing System which helps pilots land when there is no visibility. The pilot did everything right and there was no considerable damage to the plane up until the point of impact. I hope that none of the passengers knew what was coming and that their last thoughts were of home and love ones. May the all rest in peace. Prayers to their families and loved ones.
The pilots did an excellent job landing the plane under such challenging circumstances. How many pilots could manage to land a plane without wheels and still keep it intact? It seems the situation on the plane was dire, making the landing absolutely necessary. It’s truly a tragic situation.

Not the plane manufacturer fault it's the airline company that maintains it. HL8088 (this aircraft) few days ago had a mayday and returned to Korea via China. So there was some fault with it maybe already but yet to be released by the airline company. Global aviation safety will do their investigation so they always find out eventually.

I just hope they somehow are able to rest in peace somewhere 💔 hope this won't happen ever again. I still want to think this is not real
RIP to the victims - very tragic accident. What actually caused the crash was the concrete wall at the runway. If that wasn't there, there could've been more survivors. South Korean media is not highlighting this fact.

It upsets me that people are in denial that it was a bird. Some are saying it was on purpose or it was Boeings fault. But the restaurant owner at the end even said they have a lot of wild geese. Hitting a bird that big going over 100mph will do a lot of damage. I’m no aviation expert, but it must’ve damaged the right engine and something to do with the landing gear and break triggers maybe. This was a horrific accident. If you believe otherwise, please find something else to cure your boredom with life on.
It upsets you, people are in denial, when you admit you have no earthly idea what happened? The plane can fly perfectly with one engine. There is plenty of time to do a go around. There is more to this issue than a bird strike. Obviously the airport design is also a mistake.

Maybe if there was a water barrier many may have survived. Not sure why the plane ran into the concrete wall. REST IN LOVE to those who all that lost their lives.
You do know that the pilot landed the plane in the "wrong direction" on the runway right?....right?
Even if birds had disabled one of the engines, the plane should still be able to put down the landing gear, which it did not.
People are saying that, it would crash in the hotels ahead, but no, it was more likely to hit the highway or stop close to it.
Nope...the plane wheels were disabled and could not be landed atm@@bullfrog521
I cant imagine how strong the pilot's mind was

MAYBE the pilot did it on purpose. Investigation/time will hopefully tell more. It just looks like it went full speed directly into the wall. Maybe the pilot have seen that wall before....

Can the media talk about the reinforced concrete wall at the end of the runway please? The airplane wouldn’t have exploded if it didn’t hit the wall, it would’ve just slid into a field.
emergency break? lol
Some are saying there's prime real estate at the other side of the wall and that higher-ups are purposefully not talking about this to cover for the owners of the prime real estate.
It will be talked about for sure. The crash is still being investigated.
Its for the localizer antenna.. but no idea why did they use concrete wall as the foundation instead of a material that can break off easily just in case such accidents occur
everyone is talking about it but what about Boeing's having faulty engines, the whistleblower was right
Deep condolences to the amazing and hard working people of Korea, from Albania. I’ve had the honor of working alongside Koreans and I’ve never met anyone so hardworking, respectful and goodhearted. I mourn your losses with you and I’m praying for the families who are in so much pain.

Whoever designed that wall to be placed there should be jailed.. The pilot did a massive job of landing the flight without the wheels.
@@machsaga5141 Pilot's just dont forget, they have checklists so they dont.. and it is required to read the checklists
oops, sorry did not read the few parts of the comment
@@machsaga5141, doesn’t matter if the pilot forgot to deploy the gears or not.. the wall shouldn’t be there. Whoever build the wall has no knowledge

Why was there a concrete wall in the end of the runway in the first place?
That's what I was thinking
Engineers have made the assumption that it is a dead end! Its tragic and a sad day for those engineers. RIP
@@ChristonFinwood yearly safety assessment by aviation experts on the airport didnt pickup the deadly wall? Make no sense in design to have a dead end for a runway. So when disaster happened in this case, experts start pointing fingers. Aviation Engineers supposed to have an eye or intuition for failures.
Due to emergency the plane landed through the opposite direction of the runway. Instead of from the wall it runs to the wall.
I’m turning 34, and I’ve never had the chance to fly on an airplane. Every time I see incidents like this in the news, it makes me even more hesitant to ever get on a plane.

People would've survived if the plane didn't crash into a wall. Airports need to make the runaway and landing space much bigger.
it should have never been there in the first place. The government needs to investigate the poor planning of the airport
Runway length was more than enough but the barrier issue I can agree with
@@ItzChickenYallVideo shows touchdown occurring well past the landing threshold, past the halfway point in fact.
But the wall didn’t cause the plane to malfunction and skid off the runway. If a car crashed into your house, is it your houses fault? We need to understand why the plane wasn’t working properly, not just blame the object it crashed into.
@@loelds4817Yes, but the airport should've been planned considering emergency situations like this. Whatever went wrong, the pilot still managed to land on the runway, if only the wall wasn't there

the plane itself is far from fault here given all other more probable & observable factors that played roles in this disaster.
the plane obviously landed despite hydraulics failing, and everyone would've survived if that wall wasn't there!!!
Not the plane manufacturer fault it's the airline company that maintains it. HL8088 (this aircraft) few days ago had a mayday and returned to Korea via China.
