    I'm 169cm and do just fine on my 690. Ride height should not be a problem if you know how to ride. The 2017 has a gear indicator and a tachometer. Oil changes are something you should easily be able to do yourself. They are super simple, even with dual oil filters. I broke my back 10 years ago and had 3 separate multi-level spinal fusion. My whole back is titanium and supermotos are some of the only bikes I can comfortably ride. I do agree for long haul, multi day highway riding it's not great. But it's not really made for that. Reason 4 I agree with. It's not as nimble as a pure SM but the service intervals are far better.Top speed is around 200kph so your will be fine in 95% of group rides.
    Great video though man. I love the content.

      Good points man! Of course everything I mentioned can be remedied or might not be a big deal for everyone. In fact, for me most of it is not such a big deal either. Even with the seat, like I said I do long tours and don't care if it hurts a little because I too know that this is how supermotos are made, So yeah I get you but for some people (especially more casual riders who don't know much about supermotos or don't do much work on their bikes) this might be different. With the top speed, it's true you can be that fast but I would never enjoy riding with a bunch of sports bikes on the highway with this bike and neither with touring bikes. I go 130kph on the highway for longer distances if I have to because everything else isn't really doable for more than maybe 30min. But of course man aalll of this is pretty subjective so really appreciate your comment. it helps everyone get a better picture. Also glad that you like the content! Feel free to write in the comments what else you would like to see at any point. :)

    I have the 690 enduro r and it’s been great fun. The aftermarket is very good for these bikes. I’ve done a yoshimura r77 slip on, Rottweiler fueling dongle, twin air foam filter, sas removal, Scott’s damper with brp rubber mounted risers, t-Rex crash bars, wider pegs and the gas cap. I wanted a bike that I could get back into the trails with but could ride there instead of trailering. I chose the 690 enduro r and couldn’t be happier with my decision. Enduro or Supermoto they truly are amazing machines 👍

    These bikes are best purchased as an ENDURO (plated) and ridden with a SuMo Kit for around town hooliganism and bike nights. 2 bikes in 1. Make sure you have other bikes for your other needs. Nothing better then a 50+ year old wheelieing a dirt bike down a busy city street then pounding some Pints at the local watering hole

    I have one 690 too and have 174cms and isnt too bad the height, i had a mt-07 before and legs got tired because got crouched, she is for sure tall but light.
    It is expensive for sure to buy one but sadly no equivalent bike for someone that enjoy supermotos and ride a lot. I had a CRF and did 25 oils changes in 2 years and 3 months, so the KTM is not that expensive. Tires are 160 so normally cheaper than a 180 of a naked. A mitas rear tires plus install is like 130/150€.
    The reservoir oem covers are for sure crappy for a expensive bike like this.
    I bought a used oem seat and replaced the cover and foam and works much better now. A cyclist paded shorts will help. Another grips help too.
    Lithium battey and exhaust would help a little in the weight loss.
    For sure this bikes need a gear indicator for wheelies mainly.
    If you ride with friend that have nakeds is doable. Mine is shorten transmission and can be at 160 in the motorway nicely. In twisties this bike is a nightmare for supersports and nakeds. Motorway is just for supersports, even for nakeds is boring.

    • @bklf202
      @bklf202  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with pretty much all of that. Covered some of the points in my previous video on why you SHOULD get the 690. So yes you are totally right. Thanks for sharing your experience with the seat height as well! Wish there would be more choice for supermotos on the market like the ones by KTM. For now gotta hand it to KTM for still making these bikes (and engines) in the first place. For that alone it is worth paying the price. But you gotta love supermotos otherwise it’s not worth it I would say.

Plenty other bikes with better build quality but KTM have the name, they sell within weeks and more or less for what you paid for it. I find my 690 fits into the riding groups the BEST, as it works in all situations.
    If im riding with touring bikes, sure they can go 240 KMH for 1 minute, but then they come to a twisty section and they cant go as quick as the 690.
    If im riding with small Enduros and Motocross bikes, they can usually keep up, and I dont feel the need to be as agile as them, as Im not a stunt rider, just a casual trickster.
    If im riding with adventure and offroad riders, I can take the 690 on dirt and gravel with ease, as it has the same riding style, just without the grip unless I fit different tyres.
    So I run a motorcycle group with 670 members, and there's only like 3 riders who I seriously feel outpaced by, but an experience and confident rider on a 690 can do everything that the other bikes do!

    out of the three bikes you reference, if your weights and hp figures are correct. The 690 has the best power to weight ratio... 0.2355 for the 125, for the 450, its 0.326 for the 690 its 0.3495 kw/kg.

    So , if you walk on the wild side , your a rebel , your 5' 6' or above you should buy the bike .. Their is a link that will allow you to lower the bike with a compromise of shock travel .. The Seat concepts XL seat is one of the best seats for an enduro I have ever sat on .. The XL is good for long rides so adventure touring is now on the table .. The the small petrol tanks are now 3.6 US Gal .. Should have been 5-5.5 at least to give the bike some range .. No issues here as I use two rear quick release side mounted 6 liter takes on both sides in the rear which allows me to almost double the range while keep in the CG lower than with a top mounted front saddle bag like tank .. I have also opted for the Rade Garage under the seat tank & airbox to further extend the range .. Upgrading the pipe to the Tekmo & the Yoshimura exhaust gives me 5 mpg better gas mileage with less back pressure from the Yoshi Pipe .. Remapped the fuel with the addition of a fuel air sensor dongle to richen up the mix a the lower end so the engine doesn't run as hot .. Changed the thermostat because the one KTM put in makes the bike run to hot .. After getting the ECU reflashed / mapped & dyno'ed , their are no unpredictable surges in the throttle as caused by the decrease in sensitivity of the O2 Sensor .. Love the Mitas e-07 dakar tire in the rear , this tire is near indestructible .. I have Motoz dual venture front & love that tire .. I'm running tubeless on front & back .. KTM clutch slave was crap replaced it with the Oberon ..
    The exhaust note isn't critical to most folks .. I have only found two rear cans actually that have authority .. The Yoshi pipe is a head turner .. It is loud but without a RPM gauge the sound for me works better .. Who doesn't like the quick shifter on the bike ? .. This puts the bike in another class ..

      @@bklf202 The reason why I believe 690 is so good is that the bike is nimble but well mannered .. You can put around but you can also hammer the throttle & it feels predictable .. I got the O2 Dongle which made an amazing difference in the throttle response .. I got the Tekmo header pipe & the Yoshimura exhaust can .. The Yoshi exhaust note is a head turner ! ..

      @bklf202  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as I know it is possible to change enduro r into supermoto just by changing wheels but only saw that on older models. One option is always just to change tires depending on how heavy to tend to go on the off-road. Gravel roads will do just fine. I would still recommend this bike for your A license but would make sure to get it with full warranty and insurance. Another option would be converting an EXC. then you can go off road as well and they are more reliable on my experience

    I am 169cm 28/29inc inseam and I'm tippy-toeing on Husqvarna 701 sm without any problem. In fact bike is so stable you can ride it with one foot without any problem when you get used to it. My model is 2021 and it has speed indicator. For previous models you can buy them off-market, I don't think they are very expensive. I don't think warranty cares about tire change. Rest of the stuff is pretty much on point.

    • @bklf202
      @bklf202  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I have heard that more often now that the seat height is not such a big deal for most people. That’s actually good to hear 👍 With the PP seat I would say it was worth it but you also should not expect too much. It’s not softer just more ergonomically shaped. In my case it helped it a lot but I can imagined that it also depends on the rider. So short answer is yes I would recommend it but if you have the chance def test ride it.

    I'm thinking about getting a KTM 690 as my first bike, but A2 restricted (prob gone remove it tho :) ) seems like a really fun bike. The main reason for getting the A2 license is for me to use it to get to school and back home. Takes around an hour in total and I would say almost 80% of the road are highways. Also to have some fun riding after school and with friends. Currently riding a KTM 125 duke and I'm soon 18. Do you think its a buy or pass?

      If it’s 80% highway I would think about an adventure bike from ktm or think about installing a wind shield on the smc r but that looks a bit shitty and you obvs wanna look dope when you arrive at school ;) for having fun with friends after school it’s ideal and in general I would recommend the smc r as the most fun bike you can probably get with an A2 but you need to know that it sucks with the wind on the highway.. if you can live with it get it! Also I would think about keeping it restricted because the power ist still great and then you can look forward to opening it later..

    Im 165 cm with short legs, and I have no problems with my 690 height! Sure, its a handful to move around while sitting on the bike trying to park or whatever.
    But normally you just move off the seat when you stop.
    Normal servicing is NOT expensive. A service for brakes, oil, and valve clearance only cost me $600 AUD.
    The rear tyre is only $300 to $400 AUD, and you can save $50 by taking the wheels off yourself.
    You don't go to the dealer for tyres, you go to a tyre shop.
    It IS comfortable, more comfortable than a Ninja or GSXR. I ride mine for up to 14 hours in a day, 1000 KM.
    One weekend I rode 3500 KM in 4 days and was still not as sore as my friends on a Triumph Street, and Ducati ST4S.
    I love how much FUN the 690 is, and I mainly ride twisties, but also long distance, and I still arrive with more smiles on my face than my friends, because I had crazy more fun getting there.
    The weight is so light and the bike is VERY responsive in acceleration, braking, and leaning.,
    I don't really use it for SM stuff, but its very capable!

      here in norway my 10 000Km service cost me 6000nok/862aud and i had a offer from another dealer at 10043nok ( 8385nok if valves didn't need adjusting ).
      it's stupid expensive and if the service isn't done at the dealer the guarantee will disappear.

    It’s 147kg weight and top speed of around 120mph, they are a very naked bike that don’t have much comfort but wow mines so much fun on the twistys, I prefer the 6000 miles service compared to the competition ktm 450 etc like you mentioned as they need servicing far to regular for most peoples liking including myself, do yourself a favour and fit the tekmo front pipe,Sas delete and fit dynojet power commander with Rottweiler induction kit SHE WILL SOON WAKE UP 😂👍

    The dash does not work anymore
    I know that it has modes on it .

      Are you at high altitude? I have found it more difficult to wheelie in high altitudes (~1200m and above). If you are not at high altitudes maybe you are expecting it to power wheelie as easily as an EXC?
      Either way in 1st hear it should always power wheelie but I wouldn’t recommend that ofc. Second should work too.

    5:18 because of low weight and power - your tyre last lot longer than others
    and oil amount is smaller to
    plus one cylinder is 2x-4x cheaper to maintain than others
    just think about it.. there is so much proffit!
    but because it's a ktm and not jap rubbish - maintenance is really easy, so you can do it by yourself

    Biggest reason not to buy is you can get a low km used Duke 690R which is a better on the road, only 10kg heavier a lower seat height and cost about a 1/3 of the price and still has that aggressive super motard feel just a little more refined and better at high speed.
    And if you want something that's newer then there's always the Husqvarna Spartpian 701.
    Also if you want something for off road and on road, just get the KTM 690 or Husqvarna 701 Enduro with 50/50 tyres.

      There's no way you can flick a Duke around like you can this bike. I had four Dukes, a 200 , 390, 890, and 1290. Nothing is more nimble than a dirt bike with street tires.

    • @druscanam
      @druscanam 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @RayzGarage
      Yeah I guess it depends on what speed you're doing. 60mph and under, yes, you are right but the Duke has a better high speed stability.
      Also, the Duke 690R compared to regular Duke 690 has a taller seat and ride height as well as a more aggressive seating and peg position that makes it a bit more flickable then the regular Duke
      Also I have Michelin Power GP tyres on the front on mine, so that helps it feel a bit more nimble, but yeah, it's no 450 SMR. It would be so cool if those could be road registered.

    Number 5 I have to completely disagree on. I have a dorsoduro 750 my friend got the duke 690 and my other friend got an old yamaha 600 touring bike (no clue which one). Why should we not be able to ride together? I have the fastest bike, so what? Why can't you ride your 690 with a harley? I honestly don't understand the problem? You mention top speed but the 690 goes like 210 km/h or something. How fast are your group rides?

    • @bklf202
      @bklf202  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I think I did not explain very well on that one. Ofc you can ride with anyone. What I meant is that it can be difficult to find the perfect fit. For example with the top speed I meant that touring bikes might do 160kph consistently on the highway because they have a windshield, whereas on the 690 you would probably not do that. If your friends mainly ride Sports bikes, the same kind of logic applies. It all comes down to how open minded your riding group is and whether people want to make compromises. In most cases I agree that the compromises are not too big and that most people don’t really care. I also think that this is how it should be. The point of the video was to nitpick and make people aware of possible limitations. Imo the bike tries to be a jack of all traits and that’s why I wanted to mention it.

    You shouldn't lose your warranty for servicing it, maintaining it elsewhere...once you start altering the bike maybe...I never go to a dealer, I've worked at a few dealers, there's always a 40% uplift on any business you do with them, always go private 👊🏼

    • @Mcfc2Rich
      @Mcfc2Rich 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This goes with any dealership for cars or bikes.. I've worked in a £40,000,000 BMW dealership, and seen better service in a backstreet garage. I've got mates who worked in a £100,000,000 mercedes building near me with a massive spinning Merc badge on the roof. Never be fooled by that, all that glamour is to sell bikes / cars, the service is often worse because those companies pay their staff peanuts.

      This is one of the most reliable engines and transmissions on the market. It it’s placed across several platforms.
      You should be able to wrench your own stuff.
      Have fun on your KLR 650….

    Anyone buying a 701 or a 690 already know all of this. You don't buy a supermoto and expect to pay like a Honda 80.
    Anyone want a cheap bike get a drz 400sm.
    And nobody gets a supermoto for confort 🤣🤣🤣

      The video is intended for people who don’t know this yet. I am sure there are people out there who are new to the world of sm. Especially those considering the 690 as their first bike.

    This is a specific purpose bike not intended to use as a multi-purpose tool. It's made for short fun rides, nothing more nothing less. If you have other bikes, no intentions of touring, off roading, or hanging out with your Harley friends, this is a play bike like no other. If people don't understand this then they shouldn't even be looking at a super moto, period.

      right, but whis is not a real supermoto. the real ones are offroad 450s and 500s with a sumo kit.
      those are NOT meant for touring AT ALL.
      with the 690 you can do everything

      @@gigino8534 the basic design and purpose is the same as a 450, just heavier and faster.

      its not about the exterior design. its about their different engine.
      450s are meant for the track: lighter and lot of maintenance.
      690s and 701s are for the streets and act like a normal street bike

    Should have bough tools instead of those flashy bits to work on the bike yourself. Paying $300 bucks for a oil change that would have cost you 40 bucks and 30 min.

    • @bklf202
      @bklf202  ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the tools but would lose warranty if I would not do the oil change at KTM. The warranty has really paid off more so far unfortunately.

    A dealership or manufacturer cannot void your warranty if you do your own work. That is a common misconception.

      @BKLF did you break something or cause damage during your own servicing? I'm in the US and I know that if you do the service correctly and have receipts of parts purchased, they cannot void your warranty.

    because from day 1 you wil crack your head from standing in traffic. from day 1 you will need a power commander 5 and all its accessories and 4 work hours on mapping the bike, just to be able to drive normally in tragic. the first 20.000 miles you will become sick of the rattle ticking klacking noise, thinking something is wrong. it will burn oil and spit coolant from day 2, never mind you need a new clutch slave on top all the stickers. then at the shop they don't even use the correct oil, but who cares, its warranty, well not because of the power commander and exhaust and everything, its a shit bike, but selling it, never. i cant sell such a sick bike to anyone.

    • @bklf202
      @bklf202  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      damn to be honest some of your points I agree with. The slave cylinder i something I should have mentioned in the video perhaps. about the oil I never really had issues but lost my clutch literally on the first km of riding and had to take her straight back to the shop. It's a shame for a bike of this price so I get your anger with it but personally I think its an amazing engine. I mean its the only large sing cylinder in production that was originally designed for competitions. It behaves incredibly imo. On top of that there are no real supermotos being sold and developed like this anymore and I think KTM is doing more things right with the bike than wrong.. Also all the mods you mentioned might be necessary but KTM had to make those limitations to the bike to keep them road legal in Europe, most companies do not make large single cylinders anymore because they are too difficult to comply with environmental regulations. Would be nice if KTM could offer a non-European version ofc... but yea there are some things that really should not be something a customer should need to worry about.. I do get you

    I mean, you really can't complain about the dealer rates when these are basic services that you should be able to perform yourself. If people came to me wanting these same services, I'd charge the same rates, -20%. only because i don't have the large overhead. Dealer rates are dealer rates. I mean, c'mon. You complain about dealer rates, but then you buy a bunch of trinkets that provide zero performance gains. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude. It's the Chimay talking.
