2 Dealerships near me have both these bikes in stock. The ktm has been there awhile and it's 12,900.the ducati is 12,500 I believe so its really a toss up which to choose lol
@@chrisg4rr377 Not near as annoying as 1. the children of siblings who will pay it and 2. the lack of realization that many CCs in a supermoto (which is honestly Hypermoto or superbike displacement) will NEVER get fully utilized. A KTM 525 will have exponentially more power than any supermoto will ever need, and then more.
Great review. I own a 690 smcr and have ridden the 698 as well. Along with hypermotard king we did a side by side review and we had an absolute blast on the road, unfortunately no off-road stuff. And as I’m team KTM and he’s team Ducati neither of us could actually claim a clear winner. They had us both giggling all day.
The KTM is such a raw no-nonsense bike that allowed you to ride more gnarly than the Ducati yet still feel more comfortable. The Ducati is also quite raw, but from my point of view way more exotic and beautiful. I kinda want the Ducati, but I feel Supermotos should just be raw, brutal and simple
I own the ktm because of past reviews of it on this channel and others alike. It really is just a stupid fun bike. It begs you to go faster, drop gears into corners, and open the throttle harder on exit. I don't understand how it's legal to go buy and have that much fun on a Sunday.
I got a 797 but it’s sketchy to wheeley cause you gotta really commit! I used to race MX and loved my sx400 easy as to wheeley in all gears! So I’m temped with the ktm
Great and fair review! Touched on most points people are interested in. I would mention the prices of each also as a comparison because in the UK the 690 is about £3000-£4000 cheaper! Thats a BIG difference.
It's a huge point. I can't see how Ducati are asking so much, and me being a 950sp owner don't really see it as a natural progression either. I love the idea of it, but can't ever see me buying one.
Brilliant video Chris! I have owned a few Supermotos and you are right, they are not practical or even make much sense but boy, oh boy are they fun! This, to me, is what bikes are all about.
This was the test I have been waiting for, these 2 bikes, ridden by Chris. The best possible comparo for what these bikes are for, the rest are just fluff. Outstanding!
Now _that's_ a test! You've got to hand it to Ducati - when they enter a new market, they don't do it by halves! The Multistrada went head to head with the GS, the Diavel rewrote the cruiser sector and now this new single. I know they don't actually have much in common, but it'll be interesting to see how the 450 MX bike does in competition.
4 hp is a little noticeable but the way it was ridden seems like the torque KTM has makes up. The price difference kinda makes me go toward KTM. I know you get the best with ducati but it wasn't that much better with the power weight difference. Both look great.
I suppose the 698’s frame is not engineered for jumping 😅 Because the SMCR‘s frame is used for the enduro too, it seems to be more suitable for that offroad parts.
Thats an easy one. The KTM is already a known quantity so it is easier to find parts and find people with experience. Not that the Ducati wont get there, but at this moment the KTM 690 should be easier to figure out since other people already know about its quirks
Must say, in the backing in challenge, the Ducati's rear end was bouncing around, while the KTM was smooth and stable... ..so that should have been a KTM win. But then again im a KTM fanboy, so... ...anyway, good effort from Ducati for their first supermoto, but i'll take the KTM pls :D Fun review as usual!
Great review. I felt that the Ducati had to win this test. However, when I was looking at the footage, you were waaay more confident and seemed to be a better rider on the KTM. In short, KTM seemed to be the better sumo. Confisence inspiring, allowed you to jump, back it in properly and enjoy the fun that only sumos can provide.
Have been waiting for this comparison ever since Chris reviewed 698 earlier.. not every rider will be able to off-road and jumps like Chris did, but I don’t think any other reviewer did this yet.. by far my favourite reviewer….
Absolutely epic review Chris! Just what we’d all been waiting for, a proper head to head on these two bikes on the points that matter… I can’t wait to get a go on the Ducati, but certainly think I’ll be keeping my Gasgas SM700 as like you, I prefer chucking it round on mixed terrain rather than wanting it as a pure road bike… 👌🏻
Do you really need to show off so much Chris? It's highly irresponsible and sets a very bad example to other riders!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣 (I'll take the Ducati!!!!)
Awesome review, next up Ducati 698 vs KTM 690 Duke? I'm more road oriented and the Duke leaves a Husky 701 in the dust there, the rake on the Ducati looks like a big factor in it's off-road handling, so road wise I think it would be another good match-up.
Owned a 2020 SMC R and now a Hypermono 698. I prefer the 698. The engine is awesome, it’s not as skittish as the SMC R, and I like how it looks. The rider aids are the icing on the cake. The 698 has sportbike DNA, and it feels more like the sportbike of the two. I don’t ride off road ever, so I much prefer the sportbike-ness of the 698. From a build quality and materials used perspective, KTM should go to jail charging as much as they do for the cheap metals and plastics they put on the SMC R. The Ducati is better assembled and has better materials.
Thanks for a great review of 2 awesome machines. I ride a Husky 701 and love it since day 1. I was thinking about getting a Ducati 950 SP as well, just for the extra power but I don’t think it will add much to the Husky I already have. Thanks
