In this episode of LivinRvision, Michelle notices that our battery monitor says our batteries are not charging. After a quick diagnosis, Brian concludes that the converter is bad and finds a new one, then shows how easy it is to replace.
The weekend comes and it’s Brian and Michelle’s last weekend to tour the area. They do some research and decide that the best option to make the best of their time, is to go to Historic Jamestowne!

Nice we just put a 100amp converter on ours so when boondocking and no sun the generator should charge battery bank quicker 3x as fast from the 30amp we have now

Brian, you are so talented! My converter cost me a grand to replace! Love the area! Always splurge and go to Captain George Restaurant when I am there! Great fossils across the James River at Pipsico Scout Preserve!

There seemed to be lots of highly rated restaurants in that area. Tough to choose one to go to but probably can’t go wrong with any of them.

Thank you so much I pause the video at every sign you showed I'm from the East Coast (Nantucket Island) and this was a blast from my past..We visited Jamestown on a class trip when I was in the 8th grade It was spectacular. If you could show the signs on your travels around the country a little better that would be awesome I always pause on them to read them. I live in Minnesota now so seeing parts of home was great thank you.

They have done a wonderful job preserving that part of history for us. And was actually surprised to find out they are still excavating and finding more items from that time period.

Yes we were told from the person at the visitor center that lots of people come there to ride bikes on the trails around there. Very pretty area, would be a beautiful ride. If we are back to this area sometime we would like to bike on the trails there.
We were at Jamestown yeas ago and you are right to see everything need more time. Lot of new added things in the museum. Thanks for the trip.

How has it been getting spots at 1000 trails, everyone I've watched has ditched 1000 trails from never having spots or limited spots for patrons?
So far we have not experienced anything bad enough to want us to get rid of our membership, especially since we are fulltimers and it helps reduce the cost of staying in campgrounds/resorts. I think it depends on the area and whether it’s a peak season. Can’t expect to get a reservation at the last minute unless you can be very flexible with your dates and length of stay.
@@LivinRVision that is how I always felt about it being a full time too. I might get it someday when we explore east a bit more.

Hmm, my favorite would probably be the Bavarian Coconut Cream pie that Sherman’s Deli makes in Palm Springs/Palm Desert, CA. Delish!! However, I’ve had some great ones also like the blueberry in Maine, some Key Lime in a couple places and Pecan in a few places. Oh my, now I’m drooling thinking about them all! I like pie that’s for sure. 🤓

Brian, is there an e at the end of Jamestown?
From what we can see online, there are two spellings for two separate areas. They use the E at the end when describing “Historic Jamestowne” which is the site of the original fort and the ruins of the first permanent English settlement. Yet we’ve seen reference to spelling without the E for the “Jamestown Settlement” which is also near there and is a living history museum that tells about the lives of the first colonists. It is all on Jamestown Island and considered Jamestown, VA. Confusing for sure, lol.

We've had ours replaced twice in our 2020 25 footer. Thankfully, under warranty.
Oh no! So sorry you had those issues but thank goodness it was under warranty.
You'll be buying one after warranty is done....that brand is lucky to last 18 months. Most dont go that far......upgraded ones are actually cheaper.
The “alternative” replacement “that was available” had bad reviews and is known to be much noisier. If you watched the video, then you probably know that these were on back order everywhere we checked at that time. I was lucky to find a place that had just ONE left.
The history is interesting, but the pride of craftsmanship is outstanding. Especially with their limited resources back in the day...........I don't think they even had a Lowe's back then!

Looks like a great place too visit. For issues with your GPS if you use a stand alone device you don’t need cell service to navigate. Try a Garmin RV 890 great device.
We understand that, but we don’t want another big device on our already overcrowded dash and honestly, we have very rarely ever had this issue. If you have your gps on a phone set before you get into an area with no cell service, it stays locked in via satellite and you don’t need cell service. It’s when you close out the gps and try going back in during a no service area…That’s when you lose your gps. Appreciate your input though. 👍🏻😊🤓

My son told me that our trip to Virginia was his favorite, and we went a lot of places He was 10 when we went to Jamestown and Williamsburg. He is 45 now and I wish I could remember it as well as he does. Thank you!

We loved learning more about Jamestown when we visited. I should just tell ya’ll where we have not been and let you screen it for us 😜. Fyi, southerners call it pa-con pie, not pee-con pie but we’ll forgive you this time since it was so good! Hope ya’ll got to see some more of our history today and tomorrow. Have a great week!

Iowans call them pee-cons 😂😉 Our parents called them that ever since we can remember. Embedded in our brains even though we know and realize how they are “supposed” to be pronounced. 😂
Youll be changing that converter again. Its pretty well know that brand doesnt last long....Did you notice your power panel was already 20 amp ready. Brand new when i got home i tossed that same converter in the trash and replaced with and upgraded 80 amp that also has a small monitor included. ( 245.00) Different blinking lights telling you condition batteries are in. Also the original converter wont play well if you go lithium.....and may just not like your 2 six volts..... nice video of that area code👍👍👍👍
I checked Doc, I had to go to a higher amp breaker in order to get the upgraded model I spoke about in this video. I also explained this, but everywhere showed inventory on back order except for the cheaper models and I wasn’t about to go cheaper and noisier. I was lucky to find ONE place that had ONE left. No plans to go to lithium with this rig and if anything changes, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

First you couldn't find converter for charging battery. Then you are installing one. Where did you get one? Good job on install.
Not sure what you mean, “couldn’t find one for charging”? In the video, I pointed out on the map that I had found one and it was the only place that had one. It was a place in Ashland Virginia and I believe it was called RV Service of Virginia. They had only ONE left. Felt very lucky with every other place being out of stock.

Yeah, it depends on the device you are using and we’re not 100% sure why. Now, when we are in a restaurant, the background voice overcomes sometimes when we are not using our Rode mic and just the iPhone trying to be “incognito” 😂

You could have used a battery charger to keep the batteries charged, I've done that in the past until I got a replacement converter.
Yep…could have, but didn’t want to especially when there was only ONE left in the entire area and Amazon and Camping World and every other place said they were back ordered or their shipments were on a ship sitting there with no idea when they would get them.

No our radio does not have GPS, we use Apple Play which displays on the screen. Remember back when we were looking for a truck, we could not find anything available above an XLT and did not have the luxury of waiting on ordering one. So we went with the XLT.

Are your batteries wet cell or lithium ?
Just two 6 volts right now. They’ve been doing well for us on our short 1 night dry camping nights between travels. We’ll be making some changes eventually though for longer dry camping stays.
@@LivinRVision lithium charge at at higher voltage so does trogen batteries just in case you didn't know i actually called trogen and asked for my batteries.
We’ve just not been in a big hurry to change the batteries. Maybe sometime we will go that route. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
