I'm a teacher. I taught 5th grade one year... I had a girl come to me crying because she, no joke, thought she was dying because she was "bleeding down there." She'd gotten her first monthly friend... and she had no clue what it was! A few days later I saw her mom at the school and said hi. TLDR, mom basically told me she didn't bother filling her daughter in because she'd "just figure it out." It really is so sad how uneducated people have become and how nonchalant parents are toward their children's hormonal changes

    • @Violetsareblue092

This reminds me of the movie Carrie. How sad and what a terrifying thing to go through at 10 years old. You must be a good teacher for her to come to you. Her mom’s attitude is insane and cruel to me. Not sure why anyone would think that’s a good idea. My own mom never talked to me directly but at least she gave me a heads up by giving me that one American Girl book about puberty.
Also not sure when this was, but I’m a little surprised she had never heard of a period before though. Even for me at a religious private school in Texas in the early 2000s, I feel like it wasn’t a taboo thing for girls to talk about it around that age, I’d see girls with tampons/pads in the locker room or bathroom, and just heard about periods from TV and other media in general. Maybe she was a little sheltered though with a mom like that.

just to add to the pool of people already saying this, why are we blaming a drunk guy for not consenting to a group of people having sex with each other in front of him in a common room? and why are we saying that his girlfriend should break up with him over that?

For the “turn gay” story, I’m honestly surprised no one brought up the possibility that the gal has been harboring a crush on him for a while now (post-rejection) and is too shy to make a move, so her finding out that he’s married to a man and him leading her to believe he’s gay rather than bi might’ve made her think she never had and could never have a chance with him. Like, she said “I hear marriage is rough,” in response to seeing his wedding ring which is honestly a very weird comment imo. It felt like she was hoping he’d agree that things are rough and she could then create a hope/fantasy that one day he’d leave his wife and make a move on her again. She might have convinced herself into believing _he_ was still carrying a torch for _her_ because he still frequents that store and still chats with her.

I didn't catch on that! It's hard to make a judgement either way, because OP admittedly doesn't know Barnes and Noble enough.

That’s possible, but she didn’t get upset seeing the ring. She got upset after she heard he had a husband. And to me, her saying, “he?” is very telling. She sounds super sheltered and truly believes she turned him and to her that’s bad thing. It is WILD to me to say, “He?”

I agree, but I'd take an additional point. It wasn't just that he was married ....
Speaking as a gay man myself. That said, he was Bi before coming to the full conclusion he is gay. Not saying OP is gay ... but from her perspective not knowing he was bi but just thinking he's gay
First, there are people who really do believe being gay is caused by something happening to you.
It sounds like she is an extremely shy person. And, she just learned for a brief moment if she overcame her anxiety ... she could have had a relationship with this man that was on the desperation. That after her, he went on to seek guys. That it would have been a guaranteed relationship.
Also ... knowing that a lot of people coming out is hard. In her head, she could have saved from all that turmoil. The crying at night hoping you were straight ... especially if that what he was going for when he asked her out.
TLDR: She is sad that she lost out on a crush that, in her mind, sounds like it could have been a for sure thing. Also hurting her crush so badly that he became gay thinking of all the heartbreaking thoughts he had to go through to "change" his sexuality after failing with women

Getting my PhD in genetics. Yes it is possible for an AB parent to have an O child but it is EXCEEDINGLY rare and goes far beyond these Punnett squares you learn in a basic introductory genetics course. We’d have to get into more complex genetic phenomena like chimerism or a relatively recently discovered Cis-AB gene (both A and B on one allele rather than having an A allele and and B allele). But it’s far more likely that something else happened. They could’ve gotten the wrong baby from the hospital. It’s scary how often I hear about that. Could’ve been a sperm donor too like Courtney suggested. She also could’ve sadly cheated. There’s a lot of reasons something like this could’ve happened and we just don’t know

He straight up said it was a “wait a minute this is interesting, let me watch” kind of thing. He also made it very clear that he knew his girlfriend would be upset by it, so he’s just never going to tell her.
Also the level of detail in which he recounted the story, the way he talked in the comments, and the actually reason why he stayed tells me he was sober enough to know what he was doing.
Unfortunately, based on his post history, I’m pretty sure they’re still together. Not that long ago he made a post asking for advice about their sex life… which, well, frankly OP seems like an asshole.
Edit to add: there’s actually a comment on the post talking about how OP went on another post where it was the reverse, a woman upset that her husband watched an orgy instead of leaving the room, and argued with the woman that she shouldn’t be upset because it’s not a big deal lol

But you also can’t get anywhere if you don’t ask to begin with. If family guy watcher really wants to stay, okay couple goes to find another room. Ok....I have some shit to say about the unexpected orgy shit. I have been put in the position of being younger and naive, being invited to a party where everybody got way wasted, and plans changed from going to the beach to everyone fucking eachother when I didn't know that would happen. I believe the oc in that story. It may have been more than alcohol too. Maybe they took drugs before and didn't tell him. I still don't think he did anything wrong, if he's being honest in thinking he was just there for a trip to the pool, and everyone turned into something else because they were drunk and horny. I think the problem is the outside perspective combined with live reading with a group giving no chance to reread it a few times to think about it and their experience in the fetish rabbit hole. As long as he's being honest I would just be happy he didn't jump into the sex pool though if he hides this from gf I'd have a problem.

For the "TIFU orgy" story, I understand where Courtney is coming from, and I think they all made good point, but I can't believe no one brought up fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. OP was piss drunk, couldn't figure out how to get home, didn't feel safe walking around outside *piss drunk*, and were put in a deeply uncomfortable situation with their absolutely plastered friend group with little to no warning. I feel like it's presumptuous to assume that OP is just making excuses to retroactively explain away their actions, when there are a lot of other variables that went unacknowledged in this video. It's all well and good to reason out all the ways that situation could have gone differently with a) the benefit of hindsight, b) sober brains, and c) being removed from the social context that no doubt was more complicated than OP detailed, but come on. The freeze response is real yall, and being shitfaced does not improve one's ability to exit a weird scenario, let alone engage their parasympathetic nervous system

This sounds like this was in an apartment or a small condo so there probably wasn’t a place to go besides the bedroom which a lot of people have been trained to not go into someone else’s bedroom. And it’s possible that this place was in the city or an area where there isn’t really a place to safely wait outside. Sure, he could’ve found a way to leave but I think that reflects more on him being drunk and nervous than him wanting to stay and watch.

Long story short his parents had used a sperm donor. They found someone who looked similar to his dad and kept it under wraps, because not being able to have a kid, much less using a sperm donor, was a huge no-no at the time. He only learned last year, but finally connected with his bio brother. Both great guys, and a crazy experience to bond over. Nobody felt hurt or betrayed - just blown away.

AND do so by putting their hand on a wine glass without noticing that it's not the table surface before pushing down? To me, this story sounds like someone's creative writing. Even more so, it sounds like the creative writing of someone who doesn't actually smoke bc, bro, the reactions in that story are just "Reefer Madness" levels of ludicrous.

The reason that so many people with periods and especially swimmers, don't find anything wrong with the way they use their tampon is a simple matter of environmental density. When you are on land, the blood is able to flow freely, because the blood is denser than air, and therefore pulled down by gravity. When you're in the water however, many people experience a drastic reduction of flow, or it paused entirely. This is because the water is around the same density as your blood, so although your uterine lining is still shedding, there is not much force pulling it out of the uterus. The only time you would notice the poor functioning would be the likely brief periods of time you spend outside of the water. So if you are swimming on your period, you don't have to worry about the water looking like a shark attack happened. Remember that menstruation is nothing to be ashamed of. Hope this helps!

I've never had a surprise orgy break out around me but I've def stayed in uncomfortable situations I probably should've dipped out of bc I was so uncomfortable I basically had a freeze response. Your brain is sitting there going, "Is it weirder if I go or weirder if I stay? If I get up and walk out rn, will they think I'm judging them? Will I seem like the lame friend of the group? Well, now I've been sitting here way too long... it's def going to be weird and call a ton of attention to myself if I get up now. Oh well, maybe it'll be over soon. I mean, we're still going to the pool, right? I'll just look at my phone so they don't think I'm creeping on them." Reading your comment (I’m so sorry that happened to you, by the way! That’s awful!), I remembered that something similar happened to me as well when I was 15.
On a class trip, a guy snuck into the girls cottage and him and one of the girls started getting it on in the bed she shared with one of my friends. The rest of us were sleeping in beds and on the floor right next to it happening. Most of us were awake but very awkwardly tried to fall asleep while sounds from them could be heard. I remember it being really awkward, embarrassing and just… No!
Sure… From an outside perspective (and I guess what they would have said, following whatever logic they had while reading the story) all of us could probably have went out and went to the teachers cottage or SOMETHING but I don’t think anyone wanted to be seen as “a narc” while I was just kinda anxiously frozen. I managed to fall asleep in the end but I couldn’t imagine experiencing this all while drunk and actually SEEING it, not just hearing it. I would probably freeze and be rendered useless. Not to mention the fact that OP was so drunk that I 100% can understand why he didn’t think about maybe texting his girlfriend or something, despite ending up scrolling his phone. When drunk and in shocking situations like this, your rational brain tends to shut off.

I agree :( It's surprisingly easy to freeze in those situations. One time (it's not as severe as the other stories here), I was on the train in my city sitting across from an older couple. The man was whispering to the woman, and I eventually could make out that he was saying inappropriate things and looping me into whatever fantasy he was describing to her. I was so shocked and embarrassed I couldn't move, and I was just trying to pretend it wasn't happening. I still feel embarrassed that I didn't move, because I think they could see my face getting red and knew that I knew, but I just couldn't. I'm not a "little freak," it happens.

As someone in the field of medicine and science, a lot of curriculums don't ask their students what blood type their parents are or do genetic or blood testing on their students anymore because of issues like the one in the first story.
All the time students might find out their genetics don't match what they expect, or can be revealed to have autoimmune disorders, etc. due to testing on students. It quickly becomes an ethical issue so schools have moved away from that. Example patients are used instead so schools can avoid giving students existential crises and avoid the embarrassment of needing to report to the students' medical providers that they discovered a disorder or condition that they were obligated to report.

Yeah, I know they like to try and read OP's intentions through the writing, but sometimes that perspective gets too presumptuous, especially with the internal biases we have about what kind of person OP "is". If the story were perhaps written from the point-of-view of one of the couples, the takes may well have been wildly different. Lines like "if you wanted to get out of the situation, you would" is thrown around in all types of contexts involving sex, where victim status is often questioned. I don't blame the guy either way; whether he had the sobriety to remove himself or just froze inside the room. Based on what we know, him not participating is all that needed to happen.

I can't believe I'm gonna defend the Orgy Guy here but I honestly think you guys were wayyy too harsh. It's very easy to say what you WOULD do, especially sober. You have no idea other than a vague drunken haze how it felt in the moment. If I was HAMMERED, and all my friends started having sex, I would be the person sitting awkwardly on the couch. You know why? Because my anxiety would be so strong that I would genuinely feel too uncomfortable to go into another room without asking, and wouldn't feel I could ask given the activities.
And this is coming from someone who would get zero joy out of watching something like that. It would honestly freak me out. The way he told it made complete sense to me. If that happened to me, especially incredibly drunk, I think I would be too shocked to move.
If that guys was my partner, I'd probably actually feel a bit concerned for him, for that reason. I sure as hell wouldn't break up with him over it. He sounds awkward, drunk and very confused, and probably quite anxious. It's easy to say "he was lying to himself, he's making excuses, he wanted to watch!" but honestly, that take makes me feel a bit icky. If he's being honest, and I'm gonna choose to believe he was seeing as how I could definitely imagine myself doing the same, I just feel bad for him. If I was the friends, I would feel mortified I put a friend in that position.

I kind of agree, I do feel like they are a bit harsh, but then again, we are all lacking major context
Like wdym there are no other rooms to hide in, what is this, a one room house?
You couldn't go into a hallway? Or just outside the door of the room?
Though I kind of agree that they didn't mention or acknowledge that clearly rhat he's... well, drunk
You don't exactly think clearly when you're drunk
But then again, one has to consider the theory that your true thoughts are aired out when drunk, so when he chose to stay, there might've been at least a tiny part of him that wanted to watch
That thing with calling the wife to uber then she can drive him home is smart, but you're not smart when drunk either
I feel like this group just failed to consider a couple factors out of our context, but also they're not entirely wrong with their takes and they weren't TOO harsh

On the one hand we’re adults and we make our choices. On the other hand I’ve heard of lots of situations where someone froze and didn’t do anything against the tide for one reason or another. The guy messed up but this feels like one of those situations where you just gotta be there to know what you would do.
There’s all these explanations for why what he did was wrong or incorrect but I’m not willing to buy it because this doesn’t sound so cut and dry

I do get to a certain extent on wondering why OP didn't find a way to leave the room when everyone was going at it, but I don't think he was being weirdly voyeuristic?
I feel like there would have been some hints here and there in his wording in the post, but it sounds like he was still processing a weird, honestly traumatizing event to me
again gotta keep in mind that the couples did it Without warning and OP was Drunk, so w/e logic he had was very much not there at the time and he could only sit there in utter confusion

I used to be a GM, and I would always tell the people I trained that it never hurts to ask, and if it does, something's wrong. I always encouraged to ask questions and that there are no stupid questions. I'd rather them ask then cause a bigger mess.
