As the guy behind the MicroBeast kit, I've never been so emotionally invested in my life - and when you got nothing on the terminal I was panicking "What did I do wrong?!". Phew! 😂 The stickers can usually be lifted off the sheet with the edge of a craft knife. Sometimes it helps to peel off the surrounding sheet to leave just the stickers. You can also peel off the back layer of the screen filter to get it to stick to the LEDs (with a wipe of a damp cloth). As for the beep... did you solder on the speaker?! @@LockFarm An A5 size would be great to carry around! Does it have an interface to make the one line display usable on its own (for example, like the SHARP Pocket Computer)? From the video, it seemed like the µBeast requires an external terminal for BASIC. Also, how many watts of power does it need? I know this wasn't designed for battery power, but I'm curious how long it could run.
The MicroBeast looks absolutely fantastic! I loved the enthusiasm and the detailed explanation throughout the video. It made the assembly process not only informative but also genuinely enjoyable to watch. Seeing all the components come together, especially that magical moment when everything lit up is always a highlight. :D
I watched this with my 12 year old and they were very impressed that you built a computer from scratch. They didn't even know it was possible and that it would take forever. 🤣 Maybe this marks the beginning of their own journey into technology in a more in-depth way? Thanks Taylor and Amy! 🙂

Great vid. I have just bought a MicroBeast kit. Hopefully delivered soon. Huge nostalgia for me and Z80 assembly programming back in the 70's and CPM in the 80's. This kit will cover all for me. My first Z80 build was a Nascom 1 kit. I am 68 now, and looking forward to the MicroBeast kit build.
@@fractalMD My MicroBeast kit has arrived. Just miscellaneous parts to solder now, ie keyboard keys and other hardware. Its important to install the key switches level. A project for tomorrow. I have spread the build over 4 days. Overall a brilliant kit, and I am having a good time.
I want to get one of these because they look so neat and I can always use anything to improve my solder skills, but money is tight. Hopefully when I am more flush with cash they will still be available. This is super neat!
@@fractalMD It was my birthday this last monday, and I had hoped that I would have the money to order one then, but because of several unexpected doctor visits and follow ups and now PT for my mistreated shoulder, the money I had set aside is now gone. But that's life. Hopefully I will rebuild that fund soon! Keep up the excellent videos I enjoy watching them very much. My daughter loves watching too! So you have a 9 year old fan too here. :)
You two make me laugh, I love your videos. That kit is very much like the first computers I ever tried - I had one that had hexadecimal input, and a 7-seg display and binary LEDs. My uncle built me something a bit more sophisticated that could connect to a keyboard and TV. I want that MicroBeast kit but I don't think my eyes and hands could cope with the soldering anymore. Whilst most of the world is moving away from 5v electronics, we'll keep the whole ecosystem running for a while yet, and after that we'll make something that is hopefully just as accessible.
The last three keys on the bottom row are 'Space', 'Cursor-left' and 'Cursor-right'. You can use it in pure terminal mode and just input from your PC keyboard, or use the on-board keyboard if you wish.
