  • Join me as we take a look at this broken Asus D509 Vivobook notebook, which I found in my local dumpster. No, it is not staged or faked. I've managed to get it working and it's been my dedicated Windows 10 computer ever since. Enjoy!

Not me CRYING at the very end of this video... 😭 everything looked and felt so cozy and happy in the very last scene!
Fun fact- when I got the notification of your upload, I was LITERALLY cleaning a vintage solid wood coffee table I found on the side of the road a few blocks away from my house on garbage day! Took a break to watch THIS!!!
One hundred percent, I believe you that the laptop was legit found in a dumpster and not staged (with the exception of the re-enactment of course lol). I've only climbed into a dumpster once, but it was a friend's family who had a bin in their driveway while doing renos... I asked permission to take some vintage Levi's and Wrangler jeans from the bin, and they said YES! 😁
Thank you for wearing GLOVES for this project- definitely a great move! Especially for something found in the trash lol
Wow- I had NO IDEA how this video was going to develop, but it was most certainly an incredible roller-coaster that I never would have been able to predict! This may very well be my FAVORITE upload you've ever posted on this channel!
When you had the "half-laptop" (halftop? LOL) set up and running at your desk, it reminded me of a Commodore 64 where the computer is inside the keyboard and connected to a monitor... LMAO! But far more sleek! 😊
Regarding Davinci Resolve, I think it works on both PC and Mac! I've never used it, but have heard amazing things about it. If ever you needed to edit between PC and Mac on the same software, perhaps you could look into whether the projects can be edited interchangeably between either system?
Regarding your question about being able to tell the difference between the editing on your Mac vs your "dumpster PC"... I wouldn't have known if you hadn't told us! Although I will say, I did notice a nice cozy warmth in the color grading in this video, which was easy on the eyes and enjoyable to watch 😊
Congratulations on this incredible project! 😃

I wasn’t really indenting to have this cosy atmosphere, I mean I personally find it cosy, it is my home after all, and I’m glad you feel the same way!
Unfortunately, the minute I saw that thing in the dumpster, I knew people were going to call bullshit on it, but that’s unfortunately because the whole genre has been ruined. Even thrifting to some extent.
Anyway, so glad you liked it!! ❤️

@@schvabek Well they can think what they want- at the end of the day it takes a certain type of person to rescue something in need of TLC that was abandoned, and to actually DO what it takes to get the job done for the best possible outcome! 😃
Not only that but realistically- anyone who has ever picked up some free stuff on the side of the road or from the trash, more often than not- they are not equipped or have a free arm/hand to film it. Especially if the piece is dirty, or large and heavy lol

Don't expect the fan to always spin. Most laptops will only run their fans only when they are hot enough while some will spin the fan for a few seconds at boot up. Fan not spinning when you turn it on doesn't 100% mean the laptop is actually running or not

power button extension for a desktop, they usually come with splitters to run the original, but you will wanna chop them in half and solder onto the power button and LED, just run them out the hinge hole, then you just plug the power button in and run it to the top of your desk.
it's more effort but it would feel more complete and hidden as a solution.'
also depending on your laptop you can order an eDP to HDMI output, so you can get dual monitors on any laptop.

It's like the GeForce GTX/RTX x80 series, some these used to share their GPU with the Titans (like the GTX 780 and the first GTX Titan) but partially deactivated and with less, often half of the VRAM; so GTX 780s often used the same PCB but due to 3 instead of 6 GB VRAM the pads are only populated on the GPU side and the top side (where you'll often find the backplate) pads are empty.

I also use it for very light gaming (l4d). The only thing that is kind of disappointing is that puny heatsink. I really wish it could be somehow upgraded (I've seen the i3 10005g of the same laptop model and even though the mobo is extremely similar, it does have a pipe + heatsink attached to the fan) Also, no microsoft, I'm not going to "upgrade" to windows 11.

Nah, you did a great job, very logical approach and for someone who doesant do this much, 10/10, no criticism from me and you got it working quickly!! I can add the monitor is very helpful too as if you get a picture then blank it tells you that board is likely ok and CPU too if power lights still on ect but GPU might be toast in its layers inside so sometime picture on and not when you turn board on. Might be a hot reflow might cure a couple bad solder balls and good for months or even years , but usually GPU problems are most time permanent as the balls or layers are worn or over heated as you dont know what last owner did. Not cost effective to replace GPU as S/H ones are dicey and cost and unless its high end, you move on and salvage parts for another one. Most boards now CPU and GPU BGA so upgrades ect not really and they want you buy new one and why Apple is so rich.. "genius Bar" yeah!!..sigh...
