Congratulations on a truly wonderful, funny and inspirational channel. As an autistic guy (heading rapidly to 50 years on this rock) it's fair to say that the 80s inspired a similar passion for computers and tech as you have. Since finding TH-cam I've watched many many hours of retro computer and tech channels, but yours really has inspired me to have a go at getting into the hobby as you make it feel like even I could build a kit if I applied myself! So thanks so much for that. Ps. My first love is music and as a musician and producer currently putting music out there with my band - can I just say that I love the occasional bits of music you've done. It reminds me of the fun of bands like the b52's or the Go Go's! Tom.
Sincerely thank you! If we can add a bit of joy to someone's day that is just huge for us. We always say this is stuff we would be doing anyway, just started filming it. TRUST ME, you can do these kits! Even messing it up is fun and great for learning. Flattering as all get out someone that does music like you do is a fan of our dabbling in songs! You made Taylor's day week month and year.
This is the sort of precise, repetitive job that in a factory would be given to a pick and place machine. Except that they're expensive, so at home humans have to trudge through it.
The SD2PET is a sweet add-on. I've had one a couple years now that I use with my PET 2001-N computer. You should pick up a Stupid PET Tricks which will give you joystick ports.
Cool to see the MiniPET project finished! I never did see 80 columns on the original PET we had at school, but the 40 columns brought back memories. (I played way older games, though - we only had it at my school very briefly in fall 1978 and then in the spring in 1979 (the 2 PET's the schoolboard had were rotated through multiple schools every few weeks).
Regarding the dip switches, I find a dental pick is thin enough and curvy enough to get in there and hook over the switches, so you don't need to take off the perspex. (the blunt scrapers work better than the sharp pointy ones).
Thanks for checking out my game! You can select player mode by pressing left/right on the controls.. I will update the docs. 80 col mode clearly still needs some work lol
Hiya Amy & Taylor☺️…Just watched this video and became an instant subscriber to the channel and l’m binge watching your playlist. Fabulous stuff…and l look forward to more uploads ☺️👌🏼
Pleased to see the keyboard complete, and the SD2PET in place. D64 is just a disk image format, all those games are for the PET, including my PET versions of 3D Monster Maze and Tut-Tut and a playable demo of PETSCII Robots.
I put a bunch of stickers on a keyboard to give it the C64 layout. That took a while and I didn't even have to cut them out individually. I don't know if I have the patience or the steady hand to do that.
I also cannot believe they left "Petris" there on the ground like that. xD Can I suggest a better blade holder because dang I hate those metal barrels? I tried a few and ended up on the "Fiskars Softgrip Craft Knife" and it's way more stable and nicer (for me anyway) to hold. If, you know, you care. Because I do not like those plain metal barrel grips.
"Hey Ami, Hey Taylor" - my favourite words. I did not know there was a frogger for the pet, so that's the thing I learned today. But don't you think people need to know how to assemble /all/ the keys? Feeling a little cheated, although I guess it gives me time to watch other videos.
Glad you finished it, looks stunning. Love watching you two enjoy the PET together. After all was said and done how much does it cost to put one of these together?
Mostly self contained, but of course we got the kit as a donation to @1upOnCancer so your milage may vary. Sadly no longer on sale so you have to find them in the wild.
@@coffeecuparcade Here is what good ole Tynemouth tweeted about it. "We don't have any Mini PET 40/80 kits left, but we do have the Minstrel 4D, which is a similar style kit, based on the Jupiter Ace, a 1980s home computer than ran Forth instead of BASIC."
@@fractalMD That sounds RAD as well. I'm nostalgic for the PET since it's the first computer I ever touched as a child in Military School. Looking forward to more of your videos on it.
The Taylor and Amy Show helps make my daily trials, disappointments, and miseries almost half tolerable! Thanks from New Zealand! :)
You are welcome from Memphis! So glad we could brighten your day. Honestly it means a lot. 😊
Ah yes, memories of smashing keys on the keyboard to try to determine controls. They did a great job recreating that in this game! 😁
It's The Full Experience [tm] 😂

Was a surprisingly satisfying task. Tho not saying I'd want to do it 1000 times....
Taylor, Amy, I have to say that this was the best MiniPET gaming episode you've ever done. Congratulations!
Lol. I see what you did there. 😂

We DEFINITELY need some joystick ports.
@@fractalMD I sent you a PM with the details 🙂

Dang, lucky! No PETS in sight for us. No wonder you are so fancy, LCB!
Regarding the dip switches, I find a dental pick is thin enough and curvy enough to get in there and hook over the switches, so you don't need to take off the perspex. (the blunt scrapers work better than the sharp pointy ones).
Oooh, pro tip. Thx.
Cool project
Thanks, Brian!

Game is awesome. We are just goofy! We had so much fun playing it. I was guffawing, as you can see. Even more fun we had that got cut for time. 😂
@@fractalMD Glad you had fun! See you at VCF this year?
@fuzzybad Not sure yet about MW. But not for lack of wanting to go!
Very cool! Now you just need a "Stupid Pet Tricks" adapter to give your PET controller ports, wifi, and a sound jack :D
Hey girl! 😃 That's just what Sean (GWSS) said. On it!
Amy's sound effects when cutting the key legends were just adorable. I thought you only got "green fingers" from gardening. 😁🌻
If only having the green fingers translated to gardening skill!

Awesome!
I can't believe you robbed us viewers of the assembly of dozens and dozens of keys! 😝
It was action packed!
I put a bunch of stickers on a keyboard to give it the C64 layout. That took a while and I didn't even have to cut them out individually. I don't know if I have the patience or the steady hand to do that.
It was actually a little zen. Not too bad!
The MiniPET is very nice, I think I need to get one.
We do love it.

It was RIGHT THERE!
Thanks for the tip on the exacto. These ones we have are definitely not top of the line.
Neat!

No waaaaay anyone wants or needs to see all that!
All the wow!
❤
Fun stuff and nice job on the keys!
Thanks!
8:28 Holy retrogaming! IIRC, Commodore had long ended the PET line (not sure if the 128 was yet over) when Tetris reached the States ('87?)
And yet...PETRIS was meant to be!
3:55 I see you eventually did put that 9-pin "D" connector in.
😃
0:35 I thought you put in a blur effect on purpose and was like "what could that keycap possibly say that they're censoring it!?"
Ha! The old * * * key.
