It's nice to see Whisper of the Heart get some love, it has been my favourite Ghibli film since the first time I saw it. It is a shame Kondō died before he could direct another full feature film.
@@CircuitReborn Honestly not sure if I'm going to bother watching that one. It might turn out good, but I've never particularly wanted a sequel, especially not one with different writers.
After falling into a depression and basically failing my first semester of college, I rediscovered Whisper of the Heart and fell in love with it, I understood and related to Shizuku on a such a deep level, and when I began my second semester I watched it basically every day, it got me through some of my darkest times and helped me finish my first year of school, I hope more people watch it and appreciate the art that it is.
I relate to this so much. When I was 13 I was also going through a period of depression and watching this film helped me so much. I also loved Shizuku, especially as I love to write too. Hearing Take Me Home, Country Roads always makes me feel emotional.
I think you both are right. This film speaks so much to creative people who find themselves in an uncertain future. It’s probably my favorite Ghibli film. I wish we could have seen more features from Kondo-Sama.
My husband and I watched Whispers of the Heart just last week. It's his favorite. I think this movie is probably the most romantic, not only in the innocent relationships, but the characters' hopes and dreams and artistic pursuits. I appreciate that it's also tempered with reality: the insecurities, the dissatisfaction, the courage needed to face the risk of rejection, loss, and failure, and how tiny the first victories might be.
I saw alot of people on the net saying that isao takahata is underrated compared to miyazaki but honestly yoshifumi kondo is even more underrated than both of them and I bet if he was still alive he will be a legendary figure in animation history... thank you soooooo much for making this beautiful video about this gem of a man ... keep up mate👍👍
@@Stevem Just that Miazaki tends to overshadow the rest of the talent at the studio. I think you're doing a good job towards recognizing their other directors though.
@@rockamillion2002 no they aren’t. Underrated means something isn’t acknowledged to be as good as it should be. Underappreciated simply means something that not enough people are aware of. It’s got nothing to do with acclaim.
A really clever and interesting video. Today, in Italy, Netflix added to its library seven Studio Ghibli films, among them "Whisper of the Heart". It's the perfect time to rewatch it!
Haha, same. I projected so much onto Shizuku - I don't know if you had the same experience, but at the time I saw Whisper I was going through a similar phase in my life. In a way, the movie guided me. It makes me smile to know others were as touched by the film as I was.
I feel the same way as you guys. I tried watching it twice as a tween and I never got past the 30 minute mark, then one day in high school, a period of time when I was very stressed about my future and felt very insecure about my abilities, I finally sat down and watched the whole film. I was in tears for a lot of it, it moved me deeply. I recently rewatched it and I feel like I still gain a lot from it. I love most of the Ghibli studio films, but this is probably the one that helps me the most personally.
What the... I was thinking about Whispers of the Heart yesterday and what a masterpiece it is, no seriously it's my favorite Ghibli film, and today you do this. The themes and the inspirational messages, the characters are adorable. I love it more than even Mononoke Hime. Chears, take care in these times!
In modest defense of the dub version, I was glad they had the teenage actors tone their performances down. Most of them came off of Disney Channel shows and I was terrified they'd act the same way in this film, but the directors managed to get them to sound more natural. Brittany Snow even managed to tone down her singing style on 'Country Roads' and not sing it like a Disney Pop star, but more like a nervous teenager who's not used to performing.
I remember crying the first time I found out what happened to Kondo after watching Whisper of the Heart. It has been my favorite Ghibli film for a long time, and Kondo has always had my respect for it, but I didn't realize how important he was to so many other parts of the Studio and the industry. Thanks for telling this story.
It's my all-time fave, too. I've been alone in my love for this film for so long, it's kinda weird to find other people who appreciate it as much as I do. I'm glad we're all finding each other, haha.
This film and Kondo are severely the most underrated aspects of Ghibli's history. It's truly sad how he put so much into his work that it lead to his suffering.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw SHERLOCK HOUND. I grew up with that series. In Vietnam back in 1997-1998, it was aired on national television at 7pm, weekdays. Thank you to shine the light on Kondo. Great video! Keep going
I made a video on Sherlock Hound a while ago it's a good show I'm jealous you actually got to watch it on TV never came to England which seems silly in retrospect ahaha
@@Stevem good question! I don't know who decided to get Sherlock Hound on our national children's timeframe at 7pm but i think he/she fought hard for it. I remember it was altered twice by 2 different cartoon (white lion simba from Japan and a Chinese one ). We also got Spirited Away on tv, too. Not aired full at once, they cut it into 6 episode and stream it at 7pm, for like 25mins.. that was when i got obsessed with Ghibli. I grew up poor, don't have access to internet but thanks to the tv back then. Omg i talked too much. Cheers,
It's one of my favorite Ghibli films because of the scoring decisions. The soundtrack has sweeping orchestral moments over pretty mundane slice of life moments, which in turn makes them beautiful. It reminds me that there's beauty everywhere in life, that some of the moments we tend look over or skip in a story (like the walk between places) can in fact be beautiful as well.
The soundtrack is amazing, mixed in with the everyday mundane realities and, in places, the mystical. Some of the pieces/ tracks are incredibly poignant and moving.
I tend to view Whisper of the Heart as being similar to Kiki's Delivery Service. Both have a lot to say about being burned out and discouraged. Both fit nicely in the "magical realism" genre and have no true villain or evil driving force--it's just about feeling scared and alone. The talk that Shizuku has with her father, and the talk that Kiki has with Ursula (her painter friend)--both of these conversations are the realest life lessons the movies have to offer. Chasing your dreams is exhausting. You might fail, and you only have yourself to blame. But it's worth it, and resting is important, and nothing will make you quite as happy as following your ambitions will. Both great movies, both make me cry. Thanks for making such a great video and tribute to Kondo.
9:37 im crying this really called me out, this movie means so much to me as someone who's passionate about art. It's heartbreaking that kondo died this way, he deserved so much more.
I saw whisper for the first time just a week ago. As an aspiring artist and author i related to shizuku so much - never feeling good enough, struggling to see anything i make as good, but still losing myself in my work and neglecting everything else. It was so accurate !! When nishi talked about the geode it struck home, and when shizuku was crying about her book not being good enough i started crying too. Its just such a perfect movie for aspiring creatives, and i find myself re-visiting it again and again :,-) thanks for this video
My jaw almost dropped when you said that Kondo could do whole scenes without inbetweeners. That's a feat that not even Disney's Nine Old Men could achieve. Whisper of The Heart is easily in my top five favorite Ghibli films and it's so sad that Kondo died so young. He would have been an incredible filmmaker.
Watched almost every Ghibli movie almost exclusively in dub a few years ago now. Don’t know how different it can be, but this was still one of my favourites.
I just keep hearing bad things about the anime industry lately, it's truly is depressing. Hurts to see people suffer for following thier passion :/ Great video btw
As depressing as it is we gotta keep informing and spreading the information or it will never get any better, Whisper is on streaming services now netflix in europe hbo in america
OH MY GOD!!! I thought i was the only one to realize everything said in this video. This was not the first nor last Studio Ghibli film I saw, but it was certainly the most striking for me. Everyone keeps praising Spirited Away, or Princess Mononoke as masterpieces; and they truly are, in their own right. But Whisper of the Heart was for me, the one that resonated the most, and made me think about things a lot more than any other Ghibli film. It deserves to be up there alongside others, as a masterpiece of animation. Thank you STEVEM, for showing me I was not alone in my thoughts.
I actually like the added cynicism of the dub haha. It adds to the theme of awkward adolescence and that real life isn't perfect like the fairytale and neither are real people. We often, especially at their age, say things more hurtful or stupid than we meant it to be. I think both sub and dub work great on their own.
If someone wants the movie experience with whole Japanese culture, then they should watch it with sub (as accurate as possible). But if added cynicism helped this movie and characters to be more relatable outside Japan, I think they did good job with dub.
Idk about Japanese youth flirting culture, but in America stupidly poking fun at each other because you don’t know how to be vulnerable and deal with new feelings (she even is pointed out as never having feelings for boys until now, which is pretty late). The added cynicism works for localization to the US even if it isn’t as true to the original. I like both a ton.
As a die-hard Ghibli Fan, content like this is something that makes you watch the movies again and again. Letting you to appreciate small moments, and to comprehend every single dialogue between the characters. Keep up the awesome work mate!!
Truly an understated masterpiece. The more I learn about Whisper, the more I adore it; it's quite possibly my favourite movie ever, needless to say my favourite Ghibli. Everything about it works for me, right down to the moment it first appeared in my life. I, too, was a young author at the time, struggling to understand myself inside the craft - to this day, Shizuku's plight strikes an intimate chord within me. Watching Whisper now (and watching this video), I am reminded of someone I once was - an incorruptible paragon of youth, learning to step into the light and face whatever it may reveal. I will forever cherish this movie for capturing the full spectrum of emotions of that process, from the most overwhelming fear to the tiniest spark of wonder. It is a testament to Kondō's wisdom and mastery of his medium that he pulled it off, and that even today the story he wove holds together as a timeless portrait of the moment childhood transgresses its bounds and ceases to be. I'm sorry this is so long, but you've inspired me. Thank you for this video, truly.
Whisper of the heart immediately became my favorite ghibli movie after I saw it in 7th grade. I was (and still am) a writer like shizuku. It spoke to me not only because of this, but also because I was experiencing new feelings back then. That year was my first time being in love, my first time having friends, etc. Whisper of the heart was the first time I cried after a movie.
Ahhh i see whisper of the heart and i immediately clic. My number one favorite movie of all time (Even including the non animated ones). After watching it, no other Ghibli film compared. It is truly a gem and i rewatch it religiously every 2-3 months. I read the manga and loved it very much. I don't think i've ever watched a movie that mixes self-discovery, the creative process and romance so well
When I was 8 years old, my parents divorced and right when it happened I ended up watching this movie that helped me take my mind of blank reality. It takes a special part in my heart ❤️
Whisper of the Heart has always been my favorite in all the studio ghibli films, it holds a special place in my heart, still is now. What you said from 9:09 - 10:18 is how I reflect on the film too. Thanks for making this, I have a new appreciation for Mr. Kondo. ☺️
Thank you so much for making this video? Whisper of the heart has to be one of my top films of all times and I love it so much, but i had hardly heard of Kondō before this, and it's sad to hear what fate had to meet him despite his seemingly fantastic skills. Also, the way you talked about Whisper of the Heart? You got me so swept up in it, you got me so enthralled by your explanations that I totally forgot what video I was watching. I can't believe you actually managed to tell me WHY I loved the movie so much, I just assumed it was as simple as my brain being like ''mm yes nostalgia pretty music nice art''. Good JOB
I love this movie. At the time I was in a struggle between my future and my creativity, and my love life. Seeing Shizuku struggle with her future and her desires to write, and her growing love... it struck me deeply. Made me push forward. It may not be the most strikingly beautiful Ghibli movie, but it most definitely stands out. Thank you for making this amazing video.
The scene where they're all in the basement signing made me burst into tears of happiness the first time I watched it. You can tell Ghibli films are made with such love and attention and I think this scene encapsulates it perfectly. The entire movie, but this scene, in particular, makes me so so happy whenever I watch it and now country roads is one of my favourite songs lol
Such a sad story. When i watched the kingdom of dreams and madness i felt kind of ashamed i wasn,t working as hard as those people, but this is too much. Art should exist to make life better, people shouldn,t die for it...
Whisper of the Heart has left an impact on me since I was first saw it when I was much much younger. Recently when it released on netflix I get to rediscover the feeling I had for the film. It remains my favorite.
God Bless Kondo-san. What a beautiful soul. I watched WOTH this evening and at the end you mentioned pandemic, and I thought hmmm there's no way this is a new video. This is my favourite ghibli film, so much Heart in it, it filled my Heart with Divinity. Thanks for the vid, it was excellently made, you have a new sub! X
video came out yesterday , I do have a couple other ghibli videos I plan to do while in the quarantine , The cat returns , some Kitaro Kōsaka projects etc
Thank you for bringing Whisper of the Heart into the spotlight! This is my favorite Ghilbi movie - it came around a time in my life where I would watch it whenever I felt unsure. I've never had such a connection with a character before and the writing in this is so nuanced, ordinary, and magical all at once. Thank you, Yoshifumi Kondo for bringing such a timeless classic to everyone. Those of you haven't watched it- please do so!
It's heartbreaking to know how kondo died, and I have nothing but respect for him and his work. Whisper of the heart is my favorite studio Ghibli film, the music the story, the animation is just amazing (you did an amazing job with highlighting it's best parts). I owe kondo thanks for creating this wonderful film for the world to enjoy
Whisper of the heart captures the nuances of life. Every minute detail from the way the leafy shadows fall on faces, to the moving cars of the train to the little ticks in human interaction, just blew me away.
Whisper of the heart was not my favorite at first, but something about it that just makes me want to watch it again and again. Now, it is my most watched Ghibli film.
This was actually the 3rd ghibli movie for me, and damn it BLEW MY MIND. I've never seen anything as magical everyday life, and all those details in the animation, WOW. This movie holds a really special place in my heart and is the biggest reason I got excited about Studio Ghibli.
I also love how The Cat Returns is in the same universe ( my second favorite studio ghibli movie, next to The whisper of the heart) as The Whisper of the heart?
i just watched "whisper of the heart" yesterday and it was one of the films i could relate to the most. just like shizuku, i love writing (songs, atleast) and i'm always never satisfied with the songs i write so i keep on pushing myself harder and harder even if i'm already exhausted. i always expect my songs to be "perfect" however i learned a lot when shiro nishi (seiji's grandfather) told shizuku about the stone/gems. there is no shortcuts to success. you have to take your time and work hard to polish the gems within you. so much respect to Yoshifumi Kondo ❤️
The last quote in this essay, about Kondo "going down with the ship", has a literal basis. Miyazaki in his eulogy to Kondo said that Kondo was worthless at playing the game "Lifeboat". When confronted with the rule that somebody would have to be sacrificed to save the others, Kondo could not do it; "he wanted to save everybody" according to Miyazaki. It certainly shows in the characters of "Whisper of the Heart"--not a villain in the bunch. An amazing talent.
I watched the Dub and it's great, the Country Roads performance scene brought me to tears. Also Ashley Tisdale is the reason I decided to watch this movie in the first place.
I always told people that this movie was in my Ghibli top 5. And not only could no one understand why I'd pick it over heavy hitters like spirited away but I couldn't even explain why I loved it so much. Thank you so much for making this video and explaining the nuances of this great film in words I could not express!
Wow. That's maybe worse than refereeing dropouts. I've been a soccer referee for twelve years. A year or two ago the Washington Post did a study finding that 50% of all high school referees drop out with in a year, due to stress. And that is only going for nine months out of a year (or less) for almost all refs, because winter makes outdoor sports tough.
@@TheWickedWizardOfOz1 the thing is you have to consider, animators get no days off and are payed per frame and not much you could do a 15 hour day and be payed nothing since it was a super complicated cut, many get burnt out, cant afford to stay in the industry or have such a horrible time they leave
@@Stevem Oh, absolutely. Working 24/7/365 on that schedule is completely impossible. Even at a low stress job, our minds aren't designed to handle that. We're more productive, happier and healthier with at least one day without any work per week, and honestly we should only work through daylight at the most. Going longer than that pushes the mind and body past its limits.
Whisper of the heart needs more recognition!! Just watched it yesterday and it eclipse with what I felt in Howl's moving castle, Arriety, and Up upon the Poppy hill. Sad to see Kondō's passing before he become great.
I'm so happy i found a video about Whisper of the Heart! It's my favorite movie and is so underrated that i get super happy everytime someone talks about it
Having never watched the subbed version, as someone who usually prefers subs, yet still got the sense of ALL the things you described in the sub, from the dub, I disagree that the dub is bad. I found the use oif the word corny to simply be fitting, good localisation. It made complete sense and communicated all the same things without missing a beat. You have to remember, a dub isn't about exact translation, it's about communicating the same things in another language that may or may not offer the same subtleties. Yeah, the changes and additions were awkward...but it fits. They're awkward teenagers. I feel like you're being a little harsh :P :) And again, I usually way way prefer subs.
Can't believe I missed this video when it was released. Whisper of the Heart is my favorite movie and I've been planning to rewatch it along with Kiki's Delivery Service for a few days now. I think you just managed to push me over the edge and finally get around to it! Love the movie and it's really nice to learn more about its creation!
yes! apparently the artist behind logo girl’s current portrait took the frames from the scene in whisper of the heart and adjusted it to fit it the vibes
I’ve always heard that working conditions in this industry were stressful, but I had no idea it was to this extent. And as you said, it’s not exclusive to Japan, or even to just animé. Game design has a similar reputation. Perhaps if more consumers come out and demand fairer and easier working conditions for the people behind the scenes, we could release so much unnecessary steam. As much as I respect the great names behind these projects, they serve as a reminder that no project is worth the cost of your health.
I've watched just about every Ghibli film and Spirited Away was always my favorite, but Whisper of the Heart took over the top spot. I think it just comes from the innocence of youth and its portrayed so well here.
This pains to know. I've lost count how many times I've watched Whisper of the Heart. The jump between fantasy and reality, criss-crossing and intertwining made for such a whimsical experience. A sensibility I've not gotten from any other Ghibli films really. Next time when I watch it again, I'll have a different context, and I wish I'm prepared.
Nomi Yuuji is about as underrated as this movie. OMG. His ost for Nichijou is breathtaking. I would recommend watching that show for the soundtrack alone.
Whisper of the Heart is arguably the most beautiful anime ever made, the backgrounds and the lightning is astonishingly good and you be hard pressed to find anime that can match this level of atmosphere, Patlabor movies come close but its a different style, Whisper of Heart is only anime I seen out of the thousand I have seen, that manages to make you feel like you been there, each scene is alive, even those without movement the amazing colouring and detailed work of the backgrounds produce a sense of movement. Truly, there might never be an anime like this ever again, its not overdone art, its not lacking, its all just merged together perfectly balanced.
Whisper of the heart is in my top 3 Ghibli. It's actually very magical and alot of futute Ghibli movies take parts of it as their own. Howls lair is in it and the story of the cat returns is most likely written by Shizuku. This was a work of passion and love.
Whisper of the Heart is my favourite Studio Ghibli film. To this day I cannot help but wonder what other films we could have gotten from Yoshifumi Kondō if he had not been taken away so soon.
I just finished Whisper of the heart and I super love its animation. Aside from its fascinating and inspiring story, you cannot deny that it’s one of the best movie with work of art animation. 💪🥰
Whisper of the Heart, is such an adult animation; it feels at times the animators are trying to tell their story of growing up, falling in love and the failures that happens in life to the younger audience so they may be well aware of these things going in...
When I fist saw the film, maybe 15 years ago, it quickly became my favorite Ghibli movie. Even memorized the Japanese version of Country Roads because of how often I watched it. It has since been topped by Only Yesterday and Princess Mononoke on my list, as my sensibilities change with age- but there's no doubt that the death of Kondo is a tragedy any fan of the medium should mourn.
I love Whisper of the Heart for its mix of mundane and fantasy. As a young writer, I could see myself in Shizuku, living day to day as I was forced to, while keeping the magic of imagination to myself. Even now that I'm 10 years older than Shizuku, I keep feeling the same way.
Thank you so much for making this! I just came from watching your Miyazaki and Takahata videos and was about to ask if you could make one on whisper of the heart. Whisper of the heart has been my favorite ghibli film and it’s so sad that it’s such an underrated one among all the other ghibli film. Wish we could’ve seen more of Kondo’s work! I bought his artbook a couple years back and its one I always flip open; I love how he sees the world. Please keep these coming!
I watched this film with my partner at the time last year. It struck a cord with me but for her it was as if she became part of its world. Part of me wishes I could have embodied the romance and playfulness from this film into that relationship, that’s life I guess. Now, when I watch this film it’ll be even more so bitter sweet. Art is amazing and so is life, it’s just hard to see clearly at times.

Hi, do you happen to remember where the quote at 13:10 is from?
It's nice to see Whisper of the Heart get some love, it has been my favourite Ghibli film since the first time I saw it.
It is a shame Kondō died before he could direct another full feature film.
It is my favorite Ghibli film too
Whisper of the heart was one of my first exposures to anime and it changed something inside of me forever. Love the film 💖
My joint two favourites are Whisper Of The Heart and Kiki's Delivery Service.
Apparently there is a sequel now in 2022 coming out soon.
This has always been my favorite Ghibli movie, I know Hayao didn't direct this one, but I think it's one of the best anyway.
Yeah I think emotionally there' s a lot to take from Whisper
How the class teases Shizuku is so relatable and true to life.
Up on poppy hill is a lot deeper emotionally. Whisper of the heart is current day and relatable, but man, up on poppy hill is a masterpiece.
Yes indeed, all of that.
Honestly, I LOVE whisper of the heart and the cat returns
Cat returns video on the wayyyyyyy
Yesssssssss!
@@Stevem looking forward to it!
Stevem YASSSS love dat movie so much
The Cat Returns ♥
I saw alot of people on the net saying that isao takahata is underrated compared to miyazaki but honestly yoshifumi kondo is even more underrated than both of them and I bet if he was still alive he will be a legendary figure in animation history... thank you soooooo much for making this beautiful video about this gem of a man ... keep up mate👍👍
Its so sad to think most of his work in invisible and the work he did do people mistake for miyazaki's
@@Stevem yeah... how unfortunate 😞
Miyazaki is so legendary that it's it's underrated all the way down at Ghibli.
@@Matt__B I don't know if I understand what you are trying to say
@@Stevem Just that Miazaki tends to overshadow the rest of the talent at the studio. I think you're doing a good job towards recognizing their other directors though.
Isao Takahata isn't underrated- he's underappreciated. Kondo on the other hand, IS underrated. Kondo never gets a mention
A lot of Kondo's work is invisible unfortunately , i hope more watch Whisper it's on netflix in europe now and HBO max in the americas i think
Underrated and underappreciated are synonyms.
@@rockamillion2002 not really
@@callinater6133 yes they are
@@rockamillion2002 no they aren’t.
It's the perfect time to rewatch it!
hehee Yeah I heard today it will be on netflx all over Europe
In all honesty, Whisper is my favorite Ghibli of them all.
Lucky
@@Stevem The same where I live (which is not in Europe)
you can use a vpn for france or try to go near the french border and you will have all the ghibli movie. :)
Whisper of the heart is one of my favourite films, and certainly the film I have related the most to. I think about it whenever I hear country roads.
Chears, take care in these times!
doing my best
TheCoolCore I yesterday watched it on Netflix and now It’s in my recommendations 😀(I didn’t research it after or before watching the movie)
I would like more people to know his story
This is my favorite movie of all time.
It and kondo are extremely underrated even by ghibli fans. Thank you for making this
no problem it was a longtime coming
Cheers,
@@kenkenken7789 I hear Italy did something similar but with Sherlock hound of all things cutting it into 5 minute chunks for every week day , madness
i could watch whisper of the heart every day. absolutely my favorite ghibli film
but i never knew the story behind it. thank you for this!
Hurts to see people suffer for following thier passion :/
Great video btw
As depressing as it is we gotta keep informing and spreading the information or it will never get any better, Whisper is on streaming services now netflix in europe hbo in america
my fav ghibli film. Thanks for covering it.
no probs
I second this. It's supposed to sound awkward because adolescence IS awkward. Especially the early years of high school!
Exactly! I actually liked the dubbed more than subbed version.
Glad I'm not he only one that prefers dub 😏
Hey man, videos like this ensure that the legacy of Kondo isn't forgotten. Love your channel :)
Thanks Chad :)
Whisper of the heart was the first time I cried after a movie.
bro i'm digging the Take On Me style drawings you did there, nice detail
yeah i've been messing around with a light box and rotoscoping of late
@@Stevem YO you did those yourself?! It looks amazing! I thought it was from some documentary source.
@@xyanide1986 anytime there's drawings like that it's usually me same for the last video
@@Stevem damn it's so good!
Ahhh i see whisper of the heart and i immediately clic. My number one favorite movie of all time (Even including the non animated ones). After watching it, no other Ghibli film compared. It is truly a gem and i rewatch it religiously every 2-3 months. I read the manga and loved it very much. I don't think i've ever watched a movie that mixes self-discovery, the creative process and romance so well
Im glad it's touched so many people I hope kondo legacy is widespread
When I was 8 years old, my parents divorced and right when it happened I ended up watching this movie that helped me take my mind of blank reality. It takes a special part in my heart ❤️
Whisper of the Heart has always been my favorite in all the studio ghibli films, it holds a special place in my heart, still is now. What you said from 9:09 - 10:18 is how I reflect on the film too. Thanks for making this, I have a new appreciation for Mr. Kondo. ☺️
glad you liked it :)
Thank you for your video
Whisper of the heart is my favorite Ghibli movie and your video is one of the best ive ever seen
Thank you
oooo this is one of my favorite Ghibli films
True an amazing director. There's a special peace to this film, especially the first and last shot
I like to imagine it’s the book Shizuku wrote!
Thank you so much for making this! "Whisper of the Heart" is my favourite Ghibli and it hasn't gotten enough love so far
i just watched "whisper of the heart" yesterday and it was one of the films i could relate to the most. just like shizuku, i love writing (songs, atleast) and i'm always never satisfied with the songs i write so i keep on pushing myself harder and harder even if i'm already exhausted. i always expect my songs to be "perfect" however i learned a lot when shiro nishi (seiji's grandfather) told shizuku about the stone/gems. there is no shortcuts to success. you have to take your time and work hard to polish the gems within you. so much respect to Yoshifumi Kondo ❤️
Thank you for making this video. Whisper of the Heart is one of my favorite films.
no worries
You're vids are top notch dude, you never fail to amaze me with your creative writing and presentation.
thank you
I watched the Dub and it's great, the Country Roads performance scene brought me to tears. Also Ashley Tisdale is the reason I decided to watch this movie in the first place.
This is one of the sweetest love stories I've ever watched. A truly romantic film with beautiful imagery and a believable coming of age story.
I always told people that this movie was in my Ghibli top 5. And not only could no one understand why I'd pick it over heavy hitters like spirited away but I couldn't even explain why I loved it so much. Thank you so much for making this video and explaining the nuances of this great film in words I could not express!
These artists come into the world to make other peoples lives magical, this is my fav movie and i will be forever thankful to Yoshifumi for it.
wow 90% of animators quit after 3 years?
Yep! in Japan that's how it be ya can learn more on the Animation Dormitory TH-cam Channel or in the links I have provided in the Sources
@@TheWickedWizardOfOz1 yeah i really hope things get better before they get worse
Whisper of the Heart is my favourite movie, thanks for making this video
"NEVER SPEAK AGAIN" LMAOOOO
Whisper of the heart needs more recognition!! Just watched it yesterday and it eclipse with what I felt in Howl's moving castle, Arriety, and Up upon the Poppy hill. Sad to see Kondō's passing before he become great.
My sister and i watched this years ago. I'll ddefinetly need to give this a rewatch
my most favourite ghibli movie, super underrated. 🥺💕
True
Lupus Incidus preach girl !! I agree
Whisper fo the heart had been my favorite movie for like five years now. Feels good man.
whisper of the heart is my favorite ghibli movie of all time, though this video isn’t an exactly happy topic, I’m so happy to see WotH talked about :>

I've just watched today all your Ghibli retrospectives, after rewatching Whisper of the Heart, so this is perfect timing. Thank you so much!

The part about the dwarf king and elf queens always make me cry no matter time I rewatch the movie
Today I watched “ Whisper of the Heart “
and after watching the I realised what a jewel we have lost !!!
R-I-P Yoshifumi Kondo 😢
So....she is the lofi girl?
Yep turns out she has a film too
yes! apparently the artist behind logo girl’s current portrait took the frames from the scene in whisper of the heart and adjusted it to fit it the vibes
Another awesome video. RIP Yoshifumi Kondo.
One of my favorite studio's ghibli movies, and my favorite love story ever. Such a great message!
Thanks for this review.
This one has stayed in my heart since I’ve watched it and that’s what makes it special
Who wouldve tho a thicc fluffy cat could leads you to find your soulmate and discover your talent
As much as I respect the great names behind these projects, they serve as a reminder that no project is worth the cost of your health.
whisper of the heart left such an impact on me i didn't expect from a movie i'd never before heard of and picked out on impulse from a video store
my favourite ghibli of all time. changed my view of life and im so srs
I lived in Japan around the time Country Road was a hit on AM radio. Pleasant memories every once in a while.
Whisper of the heart has always been my favorite ghibli movie so it’s nice to see it get some love
Nomi Yuuji is about as underrated as this movie. OMG. His ost for Nichijou is breathtaking. I would recommend watching that show for the soundtrack alone.
Loved this film so much. I'm not even into love stories and this was so beautiful it had me hooked.
Whisper of the Heart, is such an adult animation; it feels at times the animators are trying to tell their story of growing up, falling in love and the failures that happens in life to the younger audience so they may be well aware of these things going in...
yeah for sure kinda wish i'd seen it much earlier really
Stevem we’re all young at hearts when we wanna be ;)
When I fist saw the film, maybe 15 years ago, it quickly became my favorite Ghibli movie.
Even now that I'm 10 years older than Shizuku, I keep feeling the same way.
great video as always
thank you:)
Thanks for the great info, amazing video!
His art is really delicate even his sketches
awesome video dude, well well written
great analysis! whisper of the heart is my favorite ghibli film :)
Extraordinary work. You said it all. 👌
