It looks like a lot of folks used the Mackey Mine buildings for target practice! The reactor that supplied Arco's electricity, EBR-1 is south of town, a very cool spot to visit.
Thank you for the beautiful memories of the gorgeous land that's Idaho. I love the smell of the sagebrush...especially when it rains or snows, the smell is intoxicating. Great video with tons of information on the area...thank you!
My grandmother was born and grew up in Richfield, a few miles out of Shoshone. She worked at the Manhattan Cafe during the war while my grandfather was fighting in Europe. They moved to Ketchum when he came back and lived there until 1972. Moved to Fairfield, then to Jerome and eventually Boise before they passed. Spent a lot of summers as a kid in this region growing up. I try to take my kids to Fairfield and Shoshone at least once a year for the scenery and milkshakes...
In August, 2017, I drove down to the Mackey area, waded across the Big Lost River, climbed 10,000 foot Porphyry Peak, camped at the top, then, all alone, let the total eclipse of the sun wash over me the next morning. Epic experience. Thanks for taking me back to the area.
OMGeeeee Russ!! the crazy kids jumping off the bridge is a thrill watch!!! FYI on the snake river canyon, they say it was formed when the great inland sea burst thru a mountain range and drained into the Columbia and on into the Pacific ocean.... many moons ago
Absolutely stunning! Breathtaking! Idaho is VERY underrated! Thank You so much Russ for taking us along! Awesome footage and video! Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!👍👍
Russ, this video has to be among one of the top five videos you have made. I live about 3.5 hours East of Niagara Falls in Syracuse, N.Y. and this is much better. Plus it is much better on a 55" smart tv.. thank you for sharing. 0
Be sure that if you do plan a trip here make sure to check how the falls are flowing really well, there are times when it is barely flowing. There are times that you can see the mist from the falls above the canyon rim, that's when the falls are really flowing. It's awesome that I have that place roughly 10-15 min drive from my house.
The museum in Mackey, with its cubicles, reminds me a lot of an antique mall in Tucson, Arizona. Same kind of layout. Antique stores and historical museums also tend to have similar artifacts, as there are a lot of serious collectors out there who prize these pieces of history.
Great video. I am always amazed at the intestinal fortitude and courage early settlers had in crossing this great country of ours. No matter what roads you travel on, they are spectacular in the diverse scenery.
There are several shows that travel around the US, but I like yours the best because you go to a lot of very interesting places, especially the local museums like the one you’re in right now. I just wish you would give more detailed info. about the things you are seeing. I think I saw an old toaster there but I wasn’t sure. I would have really enjoyed it if you had mentioned several of the items and identify them. I just saw Lees bread crumber. Was there more info.on that? Boy, a person could spend hours in that place.
Very cool, I love Idaho. An idea for a RV trip would be the Missoula Floods, Starting in Missoula and traveling the path of the flood down to the Columbia river. During the Ice Age a glacier moved south and blocked the flow of the Clark Fork River and created Lake Missoula that was close to 1,000 ft deep. The ice dam eventually failed and a huge flood sent water up to 300 ft deep rushing across Washington state. Another idea is the lava flows across Washington state out to the Pacific ocean.
Been that route many times from Missoula all the way down to Wells, both directions. It's a very nice drive. In Arco, that green restaurant has some pretty good food. If you haven't made it to City of Rocks/Castle Rocks SP in Idaho, you should go. Even Lake Walcott in Rupert in a hidden gem with hookup camping.
Thanks for showing me some parts of Idaho I haven't seen. It was also cool seeing Twin Falls from a visitors prospective. Edit: the trail you were on that went under the Perrine bridge where you were watching the base jumpers runs all the way to Shoshone Falls. It also runs right by the Evil Kenivel jump site.
What a beautiful trip to Idaho! Seeing the mountains, Lava rocks and the Snake River is so amazing. Watching that young person BASE jumping off the bridge I thought he was going to land in the river! Yes only the young are best suited for this sport 👍 Thank you for sharing your journey with us Sir.
Your TH-cam Channel is great, Russ! I really watching your TH-cam Channel! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I wish you safe travels and I wish you all the best, Russ. Talk soon, Alan.
I was working in a steel fab shop in Spokane Washington during that quake, I didn't feel the quake but the hook block from the overhead bridge crane started to swing back and forth all by itself... it was spooky. Was watching news that evening when I heard about the earthquake and it dawned on me that it was the reason the crane block was swinging. Spokane is 300 miles to the northwest of Borah peak as the crow flies.
Hey be sure to come at the right time of year, there are times the falls aren't very impressive, then there are times it is just flowing like crazy. It's so amazing when it's going full boar. There is actually a pretty awesome walking trail that runs along the canyon from the bridge in Twin Falls all the way to Shoshone falls. It also takes you right by The Evil Kenivel jump site.
that bridge in Twin Falls is legal for base jumping, one of the times I stopped there it had been a long time since I’d stopped there and there was this little girl that says “mom look, he’s going to jump” and because of the area I’ve been living my heart sank a little and I panicked for a second until I realized what was actually happening.
Great video, I really enjoyed it. Thank you, Russ. Wow, base jumping off a bridge? Oh, heck no! I'm terrified of heights. And those falls are just spectacular! Wow! Merry Christmas to everyone!
1:49:55. That visitors Center is new. You can walk down into the canyon from there. I did it once. Yes it looks very flat when viewed from the north side near i-84.
That earthquake site reminds me of this one here in west Tennessee on the new Madrid fault. About ten miles wide an thirty miles long an fifty feet deep. An where the lake itself formed the water of Mississippi River filled it took 2 days for those 2 days no water ran by memphis an to gulf during those 2 days. The lake now is called reelfoot named after a native American chief it's a Tennessee state park now great fishing spot. That earthquake was so violent that it rang the liberty bell in Massachusetts
Thank all those that work day In-N-Out to make these repairs all over. There was so much devastation it will take time for everything to get done. One day at a time is all they can do. Nothing will ever be the same but every little bit helps. Again thank those who try day in day out to make the difference. Especially those who give their time by donating and not asking nothing in return.
Russ, it's pronounced "show shown". The "e" on the end is silent. When most people think of Idaho they only think of mountains. There's lots more to it. We live near Twin Falls so most of this is in our backyard. The Shoshone Snack Bar has great burgers. That bridge is one of the very few in the U.S. where it's legal to base jump off of it. We see them quite often.
We loved living in Twin when we did. We used to hike down from the far side of Perrine Bridge and fish in the river. But oh, the hike back up again! If I remember right, where we hiked to was called Devil's Punchbowl.
I live in Jerome not far from Twin ( as we call it) I wish I would have known you were coming through our area. I would have loved to take you for food at my favorite restaurant! People of think there's nothing here, but I so love it. The history, geology, and activity possibilities are endless. I love my area! Thanks Russ!
My ex husband was up near Challis hunting when the earthquake hit. He didn't call home for 3 days. Said he didn't get hurt so didn't think about calling out. Needless to say he was on my list for awhile.
Just east of Boise you can still see the ruts of the Oregon Trail. Imagine traversing down those steep escarpments along the Snake River in wagons with horses. You can still see where the went down to the river in those wagons. Some did not make it.
That first reactor blew up, impaling two workers into the ceiling with rods going through their bodies. Their coffins had to be lead lined to be safe for the funerals. There are videos all about it here on YT. Till this day the area has warning signs about dangerous radiation.
Just found your video and it's amazing. Vacationed in Twin Falls in 2019 saw some houses being built in Buhl two blocks off the Oregon trail found a four bedroom large lot RV parking and wheat farm behind so no neighbors, bought it. Returned to the Sierra Foothills in California sold house in one day and had to live in a hotel for over a month for house to be finished. Well worth it love that this is a very conservative state and the people are wonderful. Life is cool in Buhl
Someone might have mentioned it, but that trail you filmed the base jumpers from, goes West for a mile. Then going East you can follow the trail all the way to Shoshone Falls passing Knievel's jump site along the trail.
I know those volunteers have to be knowledgeable in upkeep of a building. Thank them for me. Leave a little something too. I don't give on the Internet, only in person.
GOD BLESS , UNITED STATES AMERICA , RUSS , RVERTV FANS. I ENJOY RVERTV - MAJOR FAN SINCE JULY 2019. HAPPY TRAILS - U.S.A. - RUSS - RVERTV FANS. CAN RUSS VISIT CANADA IN 2025. BE COOL - WATCH RVERTV - BEST TV ON TH-cam. Thank you Russ. 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
Isnt it amazing how beautiful these states and towns still are that don’t have black and brown people investing them . Its just mind blowing what has happened to our nation and yet people are so brainwashed to just point out the obvious
Major life shift without tv for three weeks, returned to this as my first episode to watch and thoroughly enjoyed it. You are the ultimate RV tv host.
We really enjoyed Craters of the Moon. It was fun watching your visit.
It's an amazing place to visit.
It looks like a lot of folks used the Mackey Mine buildings for target practice! The reactor that supplied Arco's electricity, EBR-1 is south of town, a very cool spot to visit.

43:56 Loved the old picture of the vintage Idaho Indian gas ⛽️ station! Too 😎 cool.
When our family was stationed at mountain home afb 1965 we visited craters of the moon
Russ would’ve liked to have known what tribe that beautiful headdress belonged to and thanks for the sights !
These Hwy 93 vlogs in Idaho are awesome ❤️ Merry Christmas Russ ‼️👍👋

Thanks for the kind words!
I have been that route many times... it never gets old.
Wow, the falls were sure pretty. I'm gonna have to put them on my bucket list. Thank you for sharing your video. I really enjoyed the trip.

shoshone falls, people walking down the middle of the road, oblivious to the large van coming up behind them. 2:19:10
what a nice trip , lava erupted land was so beautiful place .weather is so nice without polution it makes trip so wonderful .
I’m from Idaho originally, love it. Camped a lot in Mackay with my family. I also lived in Twin for years. Love all your videos!!
We lived in Twin, too, for several years. Our eldest daughter was born there. We love the town.
The museum in Mackey, with its cubicles, reminds me a lot of an antique mall in Tucson, Arizona. Same kind of layout. Antique stores and historical museums also tend to have similar artifacts, as there are a lot of serious collectors out there who prize these pieces of history.
I've never been to that antique mall, but I'll have to check it out.
Great video. I am always amazed at the intestinal fortitude and courage early settlers had in crossing this great country of ours. No matter what roads you travel on, they are spectacular in the diverse scenery.
I agree, those early settlers were amazing.
Fantastic, have been waiting for this new episode after thoroughly enjoying the previous two. Perfect Sat evening viewing...thanks Russ!
Glad you enjoyed it
I remember long ago traveling with my pop to Ketchum. He had a friend that owned a ranch. Fond memories. Thanks Russ for taking us through Idaho❤
IDAHO is so beautiful 🤩. Thank you 🙏 for sharing your adventures, Russ! Best from Old Highway 66!
thanks Shellee
OMG. Beautiful twin falls. Thanks for sharing!
Twin Falls is an amazing place!
@rvertv that was a beautiful drive. Love it....
Oh, Yah Idaho doesn't disappoint, very cool trip ! Thanks, Russ
Beautiful👍👍🙂

Thank you Russ for showing us history! ❤😅
You're welcome! It's amazing how much history exists in this part of Idaho.

Thanks for the great tips!
I watched Evil's failed attempt to jump Snake River Canyon on closed circuit TV back in 1974. LOL.
Another great adventure Russ, absolutely amazing. Thanks again...love my weekend travels...👍
Thanks 👍
Hi russ great to see the sites thanks alot . Cheers mate🇦🇺

Really enjoying these videos from the summer trip... Thanks for releasing one every few days , so we don't forget where we are on the trip timeline.
What a beautiful state, thanks for showing some of it Russ... Be Crazy and keep the videos coming....
Mackay is a wonderful place. I live in Northern California and have been to Mackay 3 times. Two times with our side by side.
Thank You
This was awesome! I thought for sure Russ would parachute off that bridge :) Thanks for your video(s).
Love it. RV'er, how many miles on your Sprinter? Still looks great!
Your TH-cam Channel is great, Russ! I really watching your TH-cam Channel! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I wish you safe travels and I wish you all the best, Russ. Talk soon, Alan.
Wow, thanks
@rvertv You're welcome
We were in Shoshone in July, and it was amazing.
Great video!!! ❤
Very cool, Russ! Thanks 👍

Great vid THANKS Russ .
More road trips coming soon!
Can you imagine Louis and Clark seeing them falls for the first time. Yikes! And then having to figure out a portage? Oh my..😊
Lewis and Clark's expedition was farther North closer to where the Snake meets the Columbia River.
The Hunt expedition explored the Southern part.
1:49:55. That visitors Center is new. You can walk down into the canyon from there. I did it once.

These local pronunciations can be tough; any Scotsman will tell that the correct pronunciation of MacKay is "Mack-EYE".
Lived in Twin Falls...lots of base jumpers from that bridge!
That's a pretty crazy jump!
@rvertv Saw a guy hit the water when his parachute didn't open...hell of a cracking noise when he hit...broke almost every bone in his body but lived!
Shashone also has the ice caves if I remember right.
I live in Jerome not far from Twin ( as we call it) I wish I would have known you were coming through our area. I would have loved to take you for food at my favorite restaurant!

Heck no on the bridge jumping, I'll second that.
Idaho rules
Excellent Video…5 Star in Every-way
ATL
Love the museums! Great views on the mountains.
That is my home place. I live in a town about half way between Mackay And Twin Falls.
THANKS!
More to come soon!
7:53. 😮. That's pretty recent!
I'm surprised I never heard about that earthquake.
Twin falls! No comparison to niagra falls!
That first reactor blew up, impaling two workers into the ceiling with rods going through their bodies. Their coffins had to be lead lined to be safe for the funerals. There are videos all about it here on YT. Till this day the area has warning signs about dangerous radiation.

The Snake River Bridge Area is super interesting. ty
You were so close to the EBR-1 museum! (The reactor that powered Arco.)
2:02. That's a lot of work for such a short ride.
By the way there is excellent fishing in Mackay, too bad you didn’t have your poll .
I have a couple framed pictures of Mount Borah.
I hope someday someone may come to restore that old vehicle.
We felt this earthquake in Helena Montana.
Welcome to a "once-in-a-lifetime' trip.
Also: "i was here a few years ago."
I know those volunteers have to be knowledgeable in upkeep of a building. Thank them for me. Leave a little something too. I don't give on the Internet, only in person.
I took a photo during a drought time there, no water flowing over the rocks at all
the falls were beautiful, but they are not bigger than niagra falls..
We enjoy when you read the storyboards but wish you would read out loud the whole thing or give us a chance to read them.
GOD BLESS , UNITED STATES AMERICA , RUSS , RVERTV FANS. I ENJOY RVERTV - MAJOR FAN SINCE JULY 2019. HAPPY TRAILS - U.S.A. - RUSS - RVERTV FANS. CAN RUSS VISIT CANADA IN 2025. BE COOL - WATCH RVERTV - BEST TV ON TH-cam. Thank you Russ. 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
