Sometimes, I get nervous about the towns you drive around in. You certainly wouldn't catch me in them, so it's nice to have a braver traveler taking video of them.
I'm from England and I find your channel fascinating/ brilliant a lot of these small town names I remember from watching westerns when I was a kid. Thank you.
I think the listing agent enter the wrong address it really 403 N 1st St, Fort Cobb, OK 73038…listed for $169k…one home for sale in this area..just dropped price 11k ‘’Excellent ranch style home nestled into a quiet cozy street of Fort Cobb. Beautiful mature shade trees bring added character to this well crafted brick home. Spanning across multiple lots this 3- bedroom 2- bathroom home features a 2 car garage as well as a 2 car carport. A covered patio, below ground storm shelter and two work/ storage sheds highlight the chainlink fenced backyard. Stepping inside you'll find the dining room built off a cabinet rich kitchen with an island. Adjacent to the kitchen you will find more built in cabinetry next to a gas log fireplace. Tiled surfaces throughout the kitchen and bathrooms are connected by hard wood flooring in the hallway and carpeted living and bedrooms.
TH-cam won't let me show screenshots, but it is currently listed at $148,000. So that's actually a 21k price drop. Don't feel like living in tornado alley, but that's not a bad price
For an old house, a good roof is everything. As long as the roof keeps moisture out, that house can stand for a long time, but once that roof fails, it's just a matter of time. Water is the killer of anything man made. It's the diffrence in structures that can be saved and those that can't.
I appreciate your work on showing the rural poverty in our nation. It is often forgotten and overlooked. imo there is much more of it than the urban poverty politicians and news outlets cover . Also as someone from OK i appreciate your correct pronunciations of our towns/ cities. Some of them have interesting names that are often horribly butchered by most TH-camrs . Thanks and Happy travels!
The upcoming travels sound awesome! Will definitely be coming along for the trip! There are many small towns here in Wisconsin, and I live in one of them, so I am happy to hear that my state is among those that you plan some additional visits. I wish Nicole a speedy recovery. I hope by now that she has been back to health for many days.
I looked up 427 N 1st St in Fort Cobb, it said sold in 2021, but 403 down the road a bit was $169,000. similar in size & look. Hope Nic feels better soon, God Bless & Safe Journey
I can’t help but believe that you feel some kind of despair seeing all of the abandoned and dilapidated houses in some of these small towns. 😢 Get well soon Nic!! Thank you Joe for another great video! 👍🏼
As an Englishman I found this really interesting . Residential and town centre areas are so different to the UK. Another big difference .....you don`t see any people walking in these US towns . Unthinkable in the UK ....you couldn`t drive anywhere without seeing someone walking somewhere.
I love how you Britons have made your structures last for centuries. We Americans are too damn lazy. We invented the throwaway society. Coming to England is the only foreign country on my "bucket list". My surname traces to Huntingdonshire. I wanna see it some day, while I still can.
The Liberty theater (Carnegie) is known regionally for their concession stand treats. They are said to have the best hot dogs in the state. People actually go there to eat. All of these towns are known as "Indian" towns. Anadarko has five or six tribal HQs. Carnegie is home to the Kiowa tribe. You mentioned Ft. Cobb's Indian history.
Thank you once again for making your videos. The commentary you give and the various statistics never fail to fascinate me. It is sad though to see the decay in the towns which were once vibrant and full of life.
Hey there, happy Thursday. It's really striking (but not really surprising) how empty the downtowns are. Almost like in an old western when a gunfight was brewing and everyone got off the street. Interesting to hear you mention the Tonkawa massacre--I was just reading about it in the book "Continental Reckoning" (highly recommended). Until next time, happy trails!
Hi Joe & Nic I've been watching your channel for a few years and love it! I'm Scottish and from Forfar Scotland UK and your in the town of Carnegie, in my hometown Andrew Carnegie gifted the swimming baths to Forfa about 1915 I used to go their early 80s but sadly the local council shut it and sold it to a company in Edinburgh It was a beautiful building too! It's so sad to see the little towns in USA crumbling away . Keep up the good work guys it's brilliant and every time you see a cat it's so adorable xx
Wow, interesting back stories behind these towns. They are in pretty bad shape, all the houses are falling down and in disrepair. The question I have is can they make a come back? Yes, but it will take some work to do so and quite a bit of interest as well. Have a great day and safe travels. Hope Nicole gets better soon
Love you show Joe and Nikki. I just watched the latest one in Oklahoma and you were saying you will be going up into CANADA. I moved out of Canada years ago and it would be great to see you the provinces and towns that you will be showing. Keep up the good work guys.
Watch for the dogs! Not much of a cat person but I love the pups😊. Oklahoma was always a tough drive for me. When I could, I drove on old 66. I found that route very interesting. Come spring, these towns will look a lot nicer as the trees green up. Good luck going international!
Connecticut video 😊. That's where I grew up before I moved to Belgium.😊 Looking forward to the international rides. Best wishes for Nic. That shall be beter soon.❤
The house that looked like a small warehouse is known as a bardominium. My grandparents lmoved from New Mexico Territory to Carnegie, OK in the early 1900's. They returned home to Texas in 1913. Thanks for this vlog, Joe. May you and Nic have a happy 2025.
Imagine just walking away from a good house 30 or 40 years ago because there is no job or hope of a job. And moving the family to wherever. American dream!
My dad was frpm Oklahoma and he grew up in a town like these. Thank for showing this to us. Reminds me of a long time ago. We move on from things so easily. Wish someone could make these towns grow their populations. Seems better than living in a giant northeastern city
I was born in Carnegie ok 79years ago they left there when I was a baby never have seen it before than you I was born in that hospital I'm sure it wasn't that big 79years ago. Thank you for the tour..
Very sad to keep seeing the slow decay/death of so many small towns. Might mix it up with some larger cities not on the verge of death. My best to Nicole and hope she's feeling better. 😊
Ahh so sorry that sweet Nicole had the flu hopefully by now she's better😊. As always enjoy watching your videos as always be safe and keep watch for cat sightings 😊 each time I say to my hubby that you found a cat our dog Bella boo gets excited and goes to the door to look for cats lol
Been following your travels for over a year now Joe. Always interesting. Strange how few people you see around, even in reasonably large towns. See you and Nicole in Mexico. Hope she gets well soon.
Most of the towns in this part of Oklahoma live and die based on the economic surges of the Anadarko Basin oilfield production levels. Sadly, as the oilfield is moving towards more and more automation and remote operation these towns will continue to struggle because there is simply no diversification within the economy,
That is the story of America ... Everything is about profit and money. There's no reason for this town to exist without oil .. So it won't. Like Gary ir Detroit ...
Another great video Joe! Come & visit the last standing downtown building here in the Ozarks next time your near here, We are just off I-44. This place has a really old theater upstairs along with the secret society of Odd Fellows meeting hall.
Thanks Joe, I hope Nicole recovers soon, I can’t wait for this exciting year of travel ahead ! Italy would be a great destination the people are welcoming and friendly
Joe - really enjoy your videos. Having grown up in rural NE Iowa in the 1980s the decay hits a little close to home. When I see old abandoned homes and farms I see former thriving families. There is really no such thing as the family farm anymore, just very large corporate farms, that may or may not be owned by one (or more) families. The metal house you saw is called a 'Shouse' in Iowa - a shop/house - and they are not uncommon these days. Our school district growing up was similar to the one you saw in the little OK town. The school serves a huge geographic area which is why it's abnormally large for such a small town. In my school district growing up some kids would ride the bus for over 2 hours morning and night. I finally put a map of Iowa on my dorm room door and highlighted the area of our school cause I got tired having to describe it to all the 'city' kids at the University of Iowa; it was easier for them to visualize it.
I live south of Chickasha in a small town called Ninnekah ❤ I started watching your videos from the beginning and slowly making my way to the new videos lol. I wanted to watch this one though!
Grew up in Wichita Falls. Love Anadarko, main street and surrounding country. Use to do Harley rides up and around western Ok. & NW Texas. Enchanting country-side…esp @ sunset.
Some of the bigger Oklahoma small towns are not doing bad at all, such as Bartlesville, Stillwater, Durant and Enid. Joe did an entire video focused on Enid and found surprising sights there for the good, such as the unique neighborhood of well-kept story book homes.
Disappointed we won't see Nic this episode with you, Joe, but looking forward to next time. Thanks for the Info on upcoming things. And Get Well wishes for Nic! 🙏 ❤️
Hello Nic & Joe, You may want to consider Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Lots of history with nostalgic towns and harbors dating back to 1620, Portugese fishing and whaling villages, original architecture, excellent seafood, and stunning sand dunes among endless beaches. Be sure to get to Provincetown and Wellfleet. Thank you for considering the Caribbean of the North.
And as a resident (50 years +) I recommend visiting either in the fall or spring as during the summer the traffic is unbelievable, and avoid Hyannis as whatever "charm" it had is long gone. And, I'm going to be hammered for this, but the above description applied to the Cape through the '50s and perhaps to the mid '60s, but no more.
Thank you, neighbor, and I do agree with you to a point. There is still lots of charm, just not in Hyannis where we both reside. I have no doubt that Joe could extract some great highlights from Wellfleet, parts of Ptown, Sandwich, and Woods Hole. Cape Cod has very unique geography that stands apart from the rest of the country with a ton of history that is worthy of exploring, during shoulder season.
Love these videos you do....never miss one..........those dogs really ran you out of Gracemont OK.................thank you Joe and Nicole Jeff Thompson Rockford Illinois
We live here, my husband was born here, go down by Randlett park. I do agree that Anadarko needs to be cleaned up and refurbished, some of us are trying.
You should really consider a driving trip through Japan! Tons of small towns in similar situations to US small towns. It's a beautiful and super safe country. I think your videos would do great!
If you had come through tiny Blanco 40 years ago, there was a little more in existence then than now. That's not saying a whole lot. The school closed maybe 60 years ago. you missed your second cat..it was almost immidiatly after the white one; the house with the 2 cars and the huge hole in the roof 29:37 black cat lying against the wall of that run down house
The money shots on this channel are always these old, mostly abandoned downtowns. It's fascinating and so nostalgic to see all these old down towns built from what, the late 1880's to say the mid-50s? The place where people shopped before Walmart and other big box stores took over. Depending on the cities size, malls came in as well. It interesting that these old down towns were not razed or downsized decades ago when the population declined and the downtown shopping went away to the big box stores. With internet shopping taking over this century, we are seeing brick and mortar shopping continue to decline and most large malls are dying. What's ironic is the malls are being demolished. Yet these old downtowns continue to stand decade after decade. I'm sure due to lack of funds for the demo. Lucky for us, we get to see old Americana from back in the day when Joe cruises into town and documents it.
Got to watch them holes, they jump out in front of you. There was another cat behind the white chysler 300m. Wishes for Nicole to get well quick. stay safe and off the interstates.
Another interesting area in Oklahoma is Pushmataha County. Antlers, Albion, Clayton, etc. Perhaps they are not dwindling, but only because they have nothing to dwindle from ... they've always been impoverished settlements. History is still apparent in such places.
Hi Joe, if I'm not mistaken, Anadarko has been hit by numerous tornadoes in the past few decades. Nicki, prayers you start feeling great soon. 2025 sounds awesome, cant wait to join you
I'm 72. When I was a kid my dad and family drove through Anadarko and stopped and met fellow Native Americans who had I guess kind of a tourist attraction set up with a tent and everything.
Sometimes, I get nervous about the towns you drive around in. You certainly wouldn't catch me in them, so it's nice to have a braver traveler taking video of them.

The Liberty theater is ABSOLUTELY CLUTCH! Beautiful to see
Thanks again for showing us places/towns we didn't know existed. We appreciate yall.

Healing vibes to beautiful Nicole. Thank you for an amazing video. Safe travels to you both. Stay healthy Joe. 😊

Joe and Nicole are going international! Very bold move on your parts . And I will be with you for all of it on TH-cam. Good luck, you guys.

Good morning Joe thank you so much for these videos. You bring so much knowledge to the world that otherwise will not know.😅

A lot of these small towns have suffered population loss and the downtowns are practically empty.
The Liberty theater (Carnegie) is known regionally for their concession stand treats. They are said to have the best hot dogs in the state. People actually go there to eat. Ouch. I understand where you're coming from but not all Oklahoma towns are doomed. The native towns are like this in most states.
Some of the bigger Oklahoma small towns are not doing bad at all, such as Bartlesville, Stillwater, Durant and Enid. Joe did an entire video focused on Enid and found surprising sights there for the good, such as the unique neighborhood of well-kept story book homes.

We live here, my husband was born here, go down by Randlett park. I do agree that Anadarko needs to be cleaned up and refurbished, some of us are trying.
We wish Nicole the best in feeling better and a speedy recovery.
She’s recovered! 😀👍
Sorry, Nic. Get well soon. I had it, too.
Trees look so spooky in winter. Lol
Some of these trees look even spookier because they have been twisted off by a tornado years ago.
Lot's of dog sightings 😂. Very interesting as always. There was so.ething special about that first small broken down church. 😊.
We would never get to see these small towns, unless the car broke down, and we were stuck. Thanks for the videos. Interesting.
You should really consider a driving trip through Japan! Tons of small towns in similar situations to US small towns. It's a beautiful and super safe country. I think your videos would do great!
I would LOVE that. It might happen.
Anadarko is Apache land. Many reservations in Oklahoma but anadarko has maintained it's native identity.
That shed looking home is called a shouse , they are popular up north!
Feel better Nicole
If you had come through tiny Blanco 40 years ago, there was a little more in existence then than now. That's not saying a whole lot. The school closed maybe 60 years ago. After that the town ceased to be a town and became unincorporated. The only surviving store shut down in the 1980's. Coal mining is what built the area. Almost hard to believe the MKT tracks supported passenger service to and beyond the train depot. If you look hard enough you can find the track bed along 63. On the west edge of what used to be a town, along 63, you can still see where the depot office sat. A cistern cover is about all that remains.
you missed your second cat..it was almost immidiatly after the white one; the house with the 2 cars and the huge hole in the roof 29:37 black cat lying against the wall of that run down house

Hey Joe, straight for 600K !
Good luck !
Oh my! I live in Gracemont and shop in Anadarko. 😅 I saw my house on this video. Haha! Love watching your vids and all the places you visit.
Looking forward to the Mexican border towns and future international travel.
Get well Nicole ❤
I really look forward to your videos Thank you
Did you buy a new video cam? The definition is amazing. Thank you for taking us on another insightful journey.
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, JOE. REAL INFORMATION ABOUT CITIES AS THEY ARE. I'M A FAN OF YOUR CHANNEL !!!
„Stuff“ is a euphemism for „garbage“😂
Bartlesville OK is worth a look see including Dewey and the surrounding areas. Get well soon Nicole.. Take care!!..
I love Bartlesville. Grew up near there. We will get a video done of it this summer.
As a Canadian, I can’t believe you didn’t know why the flag was at half mast!
Thanks for the video. I listen and watch with English subtitles, training my ears. Greetings from Brazil

An awesome video! Very interesting towns, wonderful old theatres! Thank you for showing us around, Joe, and I hope Nicole feels better soon!😊💚
THANKS JOE AND NIC ❤
