      James: I just purchased 4 jin-hau (or maybe 5). 2 of them came out just that easily, but other 2 I am having problems with and may need to us a tool tomorrow. The first one I could not remove. The second one came right out like hers, and it really surprised me.

    • @thebaron222
      @thebaron222 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first time you remove a nib/feed is the hardest. A gripping material will help. If you have to use pliers use something rubber as a cushion and remember to pull straight backwards! :)

    • @tanalee229
      @tanalee229 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elaisagrace5232 I broke my first feed. I tried pulling by hand; heating; freezing; pliers; twisting. It ended up snapping that the base of the feed. ... I bought a second one, and the feed pulled right out.
      Putting the feed and new nib back IN was the next problem. I finally got it by wrapping them in a pieceo f bicycle tire inner tube (aka rubber); grabbed them with flat nose pliers on the top and bottom at the flat place on the feed; pushed. Voila!
      Now I just have to find the best paper, and practice writing with it. : )

    If you put the nib up to the second fin and then heat set it by dipping the nib and feed (already in the grip section) into 190 degree water for 30 seconds and then squeeze tightly with a paper towel until it cools, you can heat set the plastic similarly to an ebonite feed. It solves any and all railroading, making this nib write like a true vintage flexer.

  • @matthieuvankints3343
    @matthieuvankints3343 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Hello, i was trying to replace the tip on 4 of my x750 pens and found it an hassle to bend the zebra G's out.. but after a while i found an REALLY easy way..
    The diameter of the zebra G tip is 5mm, the diameter of the Jinhao x750 nib is 6mm. so i took a 6mm drillbit from and tried to bend it out using that.. but this failed as it had spring so it bended back.. so i went up a few sizes and found that when you place the jinhao nib on the straight bit of a 7,5mm it works great..
    so a short tutorial..
    1) place the nib completely on the straight bit of the 7,5mm drill, with the pint of the nib towards the tip of the drill.
    2) take flat unmarked pliers and pinch the nib and drill between the drill bit from the side (90 degree angle)
    3) STARTING from the G part on the nib.. and then
    4) move "upwards" to the bottom of the nib and the drill
    5) after each pinch of the pliers move the same width of the pliers up..
    6) dont worry, it will spring back.. this should be so.. just one pinch and move on.
    if you use small pliers it should take 3 to 4 pinches.
    afterwards.. take a 6mm drill bit to check if it fits on that perfectly.. (it should.. if nog give an overal 1 or 2 extra pinches.)
    this all will make it perfectly!

Guess I'll have to try, this is very cool, it'd be nice not to have to dip all the time.

    Using a 5/16" drill bit and a small hammer to shape the nib around the drill bit, it worked well to match the needed shape of the Jenhao. When siding the nib and support back into the pen I used a thing blade to keep the relationship with the nib and support. It was difficult and required strength. Flow is still a minor issue, but this is miles ahead of constantly dipping into a bottle of ink.

      As a artist, I've tried this conversion... I'd rather just use a dip pen than buy another Jinhao and save myself hours of frustration. They do not last, they leak, they are absolute rip off junk. It's no inconvenience to use a dip pen... I just add a clip on reservoir.

    Is it necessary to clean Calligraphy nibs regularly in the fountain pens? It good to leave with the ink? Rusting is an issue and I have noticed My Baurce-Rose nib and some other steel nibs getting oxidized with the contact of the ink. Will this shorten life if leave as that not cleaning regularly? @3:20 ish, i see several people fill their converter then re-place it into the pen feed setup. Why would one do this in stead of just sucking the ink up through the nib and feed with the converter on the pen body? thats how i fill all mine, from generic international converters to my con-70, they all get filled installed. Not only can you then write immediately, but the feed is full by virtue of how its filled, so you get more ink as well.
    Can someone explain why some folks fill them separately?

    • @katbuzz5495

      You can smooth the nib by rubbing it in circles, back and forth on an emory board. Fountain Pen Revolution is a TH-cam channel with a great tutorial on smoothing a nib. It will always be a little scratchy even after smoothing because of the fine point.

    The X450 and the X750 are not similar. Jinhao sells the Zebra G nib only in the X750 as far as I know. The X750 is bigger. The most important thing is the feed. Try to put the cap from the X450 to the X750 once, then you will notice the difference.

      Hola. Saludos desde Medellín, Colombia. Yo he usado Zebra G y Brause Rose. El Brause Rose es el mas suave flex nib que he probado. MUCHO mas suave que el Zebra G de cromo. Y puedes ajustarlo en la misma forma que acá se propone.

      Hey, were you ever able to do it? I'm struggling with that right now. Edit: nvm, I ended up using pliers to grab the tip of the old nib and I managed to yank it out.

      No. Jinhao 992 nib is a number 5 nib. This Zebra g nib is a number 6. I have put a G nib on to a Jinhao 159.
      X750 or X450 would work as they all have number 6 nibs.
