love your vids. nice to see a young gentleman so interested in fountain pens. also, your voice is like butter, literally watched 1.5hrs of vids in one sitting.
I put a G nib in my Ahab; I needed to heat-set the feed to get it to fit, but it works super well. Also, since the Ahab has some absurdly large ink converter thing, it runs out maybe once a week (use it pretty much daily). Also I don't think I've railroaded more than once with my Ahab feed, thing's a monster. Only real issue I have with the pen is that I have to wipe off the section every time I take off the cap or else I end up with inky fingers.
I tried Leonardt Manuscrupt nib which fits perfectly to the Ahab feed. It only corrodes faster than Zebra G. Maybe one should remove and wash the nib after use. The dip nib last longer when washed and dried after using. It should not rest with the pen and ink.
Proper use of a calligraphy nib with a fountain pen was a difficult lesson for me. I had to learn to write with it very slowly and carefully. Calligraphy is an entirely different animal from regular writing. But, if I spring a calligraphy nib, it's a lot less expensive to replace!
Calligraphy is still something I can't do, even with my friends pilot parallel. I try to stick to practicing copperplate. It's gotten better over the past year but can't even compete with my grans copperplate.
Hey FYI, do a bunch of figure 8's on a brown paper bag to polish n smooth the Zebra G so you can write normally n smoothly. Also if ur careful you can shave down the feed with a knife in the right or (write lol) spots to increase the flow n minimize railroading.
I have the Jinhao 159 with the Zebra G nib on it. The Jinhao 159 is as close to the Montblanc Meisterstück 149 but way way cheaper. I like it a lot that I bought 3 Jinhao 159's . One has the flex nib, the other has a flat calligraphy nib and the other has the original nib. I use a Sailor black ink. I'm accustom to writing cursive and calligraphy style writing.
the only advice i can give is when filling a pen like this fill normal turn nib up let bubbles go to the top and force them out that way you dont have as much air in the tube that should make it bettter :)
What's better is to get the nib and glue a bit of biro spring to its underside, use it in a dip pen; you'll quadruple your ink-dip mileage. No rust, because you can remove the nib when finished. Or buy them like this from Inkcage on Etsy.
I have used a zebra g dip pen before for journaling, and it didn't dig too much into the paper. Maybe the difference is that in dip pens, we can use the proper ink for it (India? I forget the name) whereas with these we need to use fountain pen ink.
I put mine on an Ahab... the curvature on the standard ahab feed is a bit wider than even the jinahos, but I carved mine down with a knife. I also deepened the feed channel. It keeps up pretty well in terms of ink supply. I actually used it to take notes in class.
it is a little bit of a squeeze to put these in the pen but it is really worth it. Though I wouldn't carve down my Ahab feed, I would probably mess it up
I have tried this and love how the G nib work on the Jinhao pen but that being said I do not recommend it. It will get stuck in the Jinhao pen and it won't come off. You will have to put a lot of muscle just to take it out again but if you failed to do that you will have to use a pliers which will damage the feed. Plus the fountain pen ink does not work well with the G-nib. The G-nib was not meant to be used with fountain pen ink for they are very lubricated and wet. The G-pen nib are very sharp and pointy as well so when you write, the G nib will tear the paper up therefore the ink will bleed right through the paper, a lot. You can use the special Platinum Carbon ink (water resistant), a little thicker but they are pigmented instead of dye-based like all the other fountain pen inks so they will clog your fountain pen if you do not clean it regularly. And if you leave the G-nib in the pen for too long there will be corrosion. And you will leave the G nib in your fountain pen because it will be very difficult to take out every time you want to clean your pen. You will feel the hassle and not want to do the extra hard work of pulling the nib out of the pen so therefore you will tend to leave it in and forget about it. After awhile the corrosion will form and once it does you will have to throw the nib away once you can manage to get it out of the pen and put in a new one. XD This is why I would prefer to just use the G-pen nib the traditional way by dipping it in good old fashion India ink and clean the nib every time after used.
Gnibs were made for drawing and manga creation and not caligraphy thats why it might rip your paper and you also shouldnt be using fountain pen ink on a dip pen and lastly some Gnibs have an oil manufacturers out on them to prevent rusting during shipping but that oil prevents ink from going to the tip if you want to learn how to remove the oil look at this article www.deviantart.com/tenebris-miles/journal/Preparing-Dip-Pen-Nibs-To-Burn-or-Not-to-Burn-356661968
one idea for to getting g nib out of jinhao pen is it can be tricky to get out of pen to clean so the idea to get it out is, firstly you need to develop psychic x-man-like mental powers specifically x-man power to move objects in real world with just mindforce then secondly you need to develop the x-man power so that the force is focus on g nib in your jinhao pen and use to pull nib out of nib, but then at this point you will start to grow concern about powers and wonder should I be only using this power for good? but by then is too late, g nib have corrosion in your jinhao pen nib
This isn't a flex nib per se. Its a calligraphy nib which cant be used for proper writing which is annoying. The closest ive seen to a flex nib nowadays is the noodlers ahab but the contrast between the thin and flex lines isn't great, which is really what counts (aesthetically) in my opinion
Are you an author of just use your fountain pens for just everyday stuff. I find that when I pick up a nice pen (like a Nemosine Fission) (best I have so far), I really want to write something special.... that's kind of frustrating when I don't have something special to say.
I write in my agenda with my fountain pens... Honestly, I'm gradually converting to using them as my go to. I still don't use for writing reflections nor stories but I know I will eventually. As soon as I find cheap waterproof ink that doesn't clog the pens. In case you wonder about the guy from the video, he has another video talking about how he got into fountain pens and he uses fountain pens for school, taking notes, everyday stuff.
@@denyel_ The bulletproof is not always waterproof. You can even see tests on youtube. Depending on the paper it's not even water resistant. JetPens website has a really nice comparison between all colors testing water resistance and smear with highlights. I mean, some colors from Noodles and from other brands are true waterproof but none of the blacks are. Also, I live in Brazil and it is pricy here lol Eventually I want to put my hands on Rohrer & Klingner sketchINK. I want the colors Emma and Jule. From Noodler's I want to try Polar Green, Legal Blue and Polar Purple. Those are the colors I like the most from the ones that seem to be the most waterproof of them all. It will not be fun to my pocket to import them all but I will eventually do it
Hiya Handsome... There is a Titanium G nib that will last longer but obviously cost more. Regarding the feed fitting the curve of the underside of the G nib... I found that there's a number on the bottom of these feeds and the curve on a number 5 feed is slightly different than the number 6 feed. My pens are all jinhao pens doesn't matter what model X750 or the 159... But I bought one pen from different vendors so I would get different feed numbers... Anyway that's how I got my selection... Yea I've got three or four pens of the same models but the feeds have different numbers which are not related to the nib,,, like I've found a feed with number 5 on it with a number 6 nib in the X 750 and the same arrangement on the 159 found a number 5 feed in the collection. OK, sorry for rambling on,,, find the G nib that fits the numbered feed out of your pens and use that. Some force is necessary but I didn't use brute force for mine. Younger penmanship people could get a friendly grownup??? To help them fitting the nibulation. OK.. I also have Noodlers Ahab pens, heat setting the feed is the trickiest and I leave mine in boiling water for a minute then fish it out with a spoon to heat set it to the nib. They are harder to flex, I ground the shoulders down with a dremmel grinder which makes the Ahab easier to flex... OK. Thanks for posting this video Josh, I think your ace. cheguei a mesma conclusão que a sua. Fabulous calligraphy! Thanks for the demo. Maybe try the G nib on an ahah next... The ebonite feed is a perfect match for the G 👍🏼 you can scrape out the channel for more flow. I converted a Konrad with a titanium G it writes even better than the steel G and has less corrosion
Geckonia has some great points. I would suggest using the Ahab over the Jinhao also. I understand the feed for the Noodler's is designed to handle more ink flow, the Jinhao is not…and the Ahab holds a lot more ink. I think if you listen quietly you can hear the steel G nib rust as you write with it…
use a light touch, then do some writing on a piece of very fine wet and dry abrasive paper - this will ease the nib into your writing style - be gentle though - slowly slowly catchee monkee

I honestly can not remember, it was a while ago. I think it was my lamy petrol mix that ended up too green.
I like to saturate my nibs by shaking the pen a little bit sometimes. Though it can splatter ink about onto the paper :/
