This episode is not meant to discourage you if you're starting a label. It's to inform you NOT to make the mistakes literally countless individuals with brands make. In fact, if you let a video discourage you from starting your potential line, then you REALLY shouldn't start a brand. You can do whatever you want in this world. Just be savvy enough to learn more about the thing you want to get into. That's the point.
@Andre Bittencourt how does that actually change things? You don't need validation from a video to start what you really want to to. Throughout the entire video, encouragement was given. Learn the business Go beyond just a shirt Be honest with yourself Put you creative work to the test! To your point, this channel The Casual has made a good chunk of off clothing. Something you assumed we didn't, probably from the little snapshot you researched. Yet your intial comment doesn't discourage our team from continuing our journey. Because we love it. We won't let a dissenting comment change that fact. We don't need that kind of validation from someone who doesn't even know our operation. @@THECASUALco yo Reggie, is youtube your main job? Just wondered because of the notification you put out their adressing how the channel will be handled in the future...
Number 1 I Love your channel. I’ve been listening to you for about a year now. I started with the tech wear video you made a long time ago. When I watched this video it was not discouraging at all. If anything it was encouraging. Your 100% right if a video on TH-cam can stop me from pursuing my god given dreams then I doubt the desire was coming from the right place to begin with. Your channel is a blessing and I love watching you and your channel grow in quality and wisdom. I’m a dance teacher and I understand the need to information students with lessons that go beyond the class room. That what this video aims to do. You have the hard task of keeping it sort. My lesson are an hour and normally one on one with time to break things down. Doing it in 10min or less is a tall order and you did great. If someone doesn’t like it that’s ok. This video acts like a mirror for the viewers to reflect on their motive. Ask them why do you desire starting a clothing brand or any brand for that matter . Mine comes from my love to create stories but like you said if I don’t learn the business then my company will fail. My story go untold and the people who I hire with out work. Leaving them without the means to support there families.that information lead me on a JourneyI’m trying to learn everything I can, as much as I can. so that when I started my company it’s on a foundation that will last long after I’m dead and gone. My dream is create jobs and build story’s with the things I make and the people who enjoy them. Thank you for your video and following your Tracher intuition when making videos your followers might not always want to hear but need to hear. My original comment was To Poetic to get my point across. Thank you from Brooklyn New York. Hoping to visit Japan with my wife and hit up all those stores you talk about your video. I know your channel is about clothing but I’m sure you have some great food spots in Japan. If you are in Brooklyn or New York for an event. Would be awesome to do a meetup. 😊

11 months too late but I am glad I watched this video. As someone who has aspired to be a fashion designer since childhood there is nothing that irks me more than all these celebrities and other people who just "making a label" out of thin air by buying a bunch of things and slapping their name on it. I spent most of my childhood (to my mothers annoyance) ripping up bed sheets and fabric scraps to see what I can make of it. I spend countless hours or even days in our basement drawing sketches of design, pattern drafting, cutting, and sewing until fashion school taught me the proper techniques to create line sheets, techical packages for manufacturers, market and competion analysis, PR packages and more. Having a good fashion label is not something that just anyone (celebrities included) can do. Something I am learning after all these years. It takes a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, TALENT, and to have a set of people (customers) who genuinely love and appreciate your work. There are so many designers out there that have never or will never reach fame for their work but have managed to create a successful label that they genuinely love. I think the thing that most people forget is that success doesn't mean fame and fortune for everyone. For me, if you have a roof over your head, food on the table, able to pay the bills comfortably without living paycheck to paycheck while doing what you love, you are successful.
my issue is that most ppl make a tee shirt line, call themselves "fashion designers" and horrible quality tees!!! to top it off they charge 50$+ & when yuh ask dem the mission statement behind their brand its "i just wanna be rich"
Reke trust me... especially here in NYC everyone think they a “fashion designer” with no knowledge or skill around fashion. Take a look at IG and all the random tee shirt brand owner calling themself fashion designers in their bio
So many brands that enter a market and focus on a market, and don’t do it out of passion/love, but a vague statement that people think they identify to, but not really. There are so many things I would be interested in, but absolutely cannot find because nobody does it, or they’re obscured/clouded by the mass copy pasta.
Very good video, as someone who started with blank T-shirts, I can vouch for the stress of transitioning to cut and sew, but also the crazy satisfaction when you finish a piece you’re proud of
not only do you have a cool name you're also somewhat of a role model, I, for one definitely look up to you in terms of the insight and knowledge I perceive you to have. you seem like a really chill and intelligent guy! Wanted to start a clothing brand particularly branded jeans having my own labels.... now i havs spent 5yrs and still having only one jeans sample.Clothing line is very difficult to start especially if you dont want to cut corners.....the dream is still there.....mine is jeans and apparel....and the name is "AXXY AXXAYLON"
I started a brand called PrettyBoyUglyWorld, which randomly blew up because ASAP Ferg randomly followed me. At first it was mad, but slowly the reality sunk in that I need to look at quality, customer expectations etc. The whole project started by accident, but is slowly coming into place. I am looking at making actual clothing now such as cargos, and bags. The story of the brand was pretty much about me being an office worker, and stuck all day in the office whilst looking outside my window and seeing the beautiful weather. This was how I came up with the first logo which pretty much has the nice side of the globe on the top, and the darkness below it.
Am I weird because the logistics is the thing I look forward to the most, having a reason to look suited and meeting people and having a valid reason to look professional honestly while I like designing but I’m quite excited for the logistics

To be honest with you man, this video is encouraging as hell. Because this shows up everything that most people with this dream lack of, the business part. Myself included. Just wanted to give Reggie a big thanks for this video. I love videos like this, just like pt. 9 for Unscripted. About 9 months ago, I had the idea of starting my own streetwear brand, looked it up on TH-cam, and found The Casual. It literally changed my life. I've watched the whole Unscripted series a few times and I took notes on the videos, made checklists, and followed them every step of the way. Today, the instagram page of my brand infin2 has finally launched. All I want to say to you all is, seriously, do not be discouraged by these videos, but take it with a grain of salt and reflect on them. We may think we know it all already, or that we have dope ass designs that will capture everyone's attention. But the truth is, we're far from that and a lot of time, money, and sweat goes into building a brand. This doesn't mean it's not worth it, but if you can actually build a brand that represents YOU, YOUR BELIEFS, YOUR STYLE, and YOUR LIFE, then at least you can say you gave it your best shot to build something that represents you. Remember what Reggie said, put your OWN experiences, beliefs, and values into YOUR brand. You can look up to your idols but never imitate them to the dot. You are YOU, and YOU are what makes your brand unique. To those who are trying to start their brand, keep going and reflect on your own life to see what's something NEW you can bring into today's streetwear community. We're all special in our own way, don't give up. Thank you for reading my long passage, and please check out @infin.2 on Instagram if you have time. I love this vid because it really shows what happens behind the scenes i wanted to start a brand in 6th grade im in highschool now and it took a 2 years to realize its not the design but the story behind the brand even after this video it encourages me to try harder actually design the clothing fabrics to make something better together. best video ever!!
I’m glad I went to school for the business aspect of fashion instead of the purely creative side like in art schools. I’ve worked with all the marketing aspects and am better off in general I think that those who chose art school. This video made me want to start my own brand even more.
Telling “story” has been difficult. I think as a brand that’s just beginning, we struggled to even know what that meant. But now that we have context for ourselves it’s been a little more clear.
New brands from where I live often copy or lack originality in design and the quality in the clothing is cheap. But it's understandable if the brands are willing to improve on those aspects.
just wanne say thanks first i thinking to start tshirt brand with hoodies and caps but you changed my mind to do street wear i didnt know how to design and what fashion whas , thanks to watching you video,s on youtube , i know about fashion and streetwear , how to brand , many blessings too you hope to see more soon
It really Depends on your motive in some respects. What is your mission and purpose behind your brand if it’s just money then that may be an issue you have to have a real purpose bigger than just making money. There’s no need to worry about competition if this is truly what you are supposed to be doing it will succeed ( what is your definition of success) there’s nothing new under the sun. People have been designing fashions every since the beginning of time ( Adam and Eve sew fig leaves together to cover their naked body..lol) what is different about you and your brand? It’s not about the clothes necessarily or the brand it’s about you, and you are expressed through your brand.
I mean I started from greffiti, then to finearts and painting pop art, now I am doing Digital art... But I aways digged clothing, I heard what you said and well I took like inpiration to give it a try. I love creating and fabrics, Im even getying ready to start sewing.
I read the title and was upset, but then once I got into the video I was like FINALLY someone said it. I have spent all day watching videos on how to start a "successful clothing brand" and its all about making a tee shirt! That is not a fashion brand im sorry- literally anyone can do that. I was simply looking for tips on how to get my actual sketches and clothing designs made and barely got any info they all are just talking about screen printing....like sorry but I dont wanna make a T-Shirt just because SUPREME somehow made this logo and slapped it on a sweatshirt to sell for $150 thats not what I want to do. Anyways nice video.
Actually i searched for FAMOUS CLOTHING BRANDS CASE STUDY and this came up and lemme tell you I'm already a owner of online clothing brand and Alhamdulillah it's working awesome so don't let anyone fool you 🔥 IF YOU WANT IT, DO IT
I'm going to make a clothing brand in the future 3/4 years away.. I'm planning loads of it before I start it, me and my close friend endlessly researching all about business, profit, and clothing brands in general. we haven't decided the name or logo yet, we want to the the cherry on top til last.. right now we need foundation then all the other little things.
Is it possible to start with cut and sew pieces? I have no interest in tees but it seems like I should do that first to build the brand, then use the revenue to start the statement pieces, but I want to start with that! Tees don't fit my brand so what do I do?
Starting a clothing brand should be looked at as starting a music career for people and that means realizing that there is a 99 percent chance that it will fail in terms of seeing large success from it. Which means most should just realize they are doing it for the love of it.
If it wasn’t hard, it wouldn’t be a pipe dream! Jokes aside, I hope to try creating a clothing line as an extension of my art and artistic vision. I want to try to transfer the same ideas and feelings from 2d works to wearable pieces where cut and understated design are the focus. It is pretty daunting though, especially as anything I create I want to put just as much care into as I would any other work of art.
Can’t speak for anyone else, this here is one reason why BUNNICAT tunes in. Keeping it trill every step of the way to encourage the dialogue and awareness. Good work. KIU and KIC. 👌
If there was a 1% success rate I would still push head because 1% Is more then 0. I’m 27 I have miss mark before. I won’t let that stop me. I’ll take aim and go higher using the mistakes from my past to feed my fire.
I've been looking into starting up , 1 of my reasons is because I'm from UK and if I go in a JD Sports, a footasylum + many other outlets, all the new clothes out are relatively similar and it just seems lazy, how you can get a variety of brands, but the designs all seem to be a duplicate, clothes seemed to stand out more 10/15+ years ago
I have very short attention span when the person just talks on the vid but this guy really gets my attention 100% of the whole video and that says a lot.
Please do a video on fashion/clothing and environmental sustainability. Would love to hear your take on how and what brands can do to help be more sustainable
I'm an independent designer and the creative director of my brand, Poetitlan. A conscious luxury brand handmade by Mexican Artisans. I have a BFA in design, have worked as a stylist, freelance designer, milliner, and art authenticator before starting my own brand. I absolutely love what I do, but I will say this isn't for everybody. I'm incredibly involved in the design, technical design, sourcing, manufacturing, working with artisans, packaging, selling, distribution, working with showrooms, clients, logistics, budget, etc. It's incredibly difficult and a lot of responsibility but I love every moment of it. The advice given in this video is very accurate. This isn't for everyone, fashion is 5% glamour, the rest is f**king hard work.
If you had watched you would have realized that it was actually trying to warn you of pitfalls that many fashion owners will face. We encourage EVERYONE to start a brand if they want. We have an entire mentorship program with classes and webinars in our private discord.
After investing in a cutter and a heat press and a list of artists to buy designs from for graphic tees for my line of brutal shirts, I don't know if I should after watching this video.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying, however, if you ask every single person who purchases from say supreme, or a more generic and affordable brand let's say topshop if they know the background of a the business, i wonder how many people actually do? maybe 25-30% for supreme? and wayyyy less for topshop maybe 1-5% of people that buy from their store. I do agree with a brand having an identity but all i'm saying is that its not the bottom line, the large majority of people buy clothing of the back of an emotional buy rather than a rational. As long as you have some eye catching design's, focussed target audience and a solid business/marketing strategy i would say you have quite a good foundation to build on
this get me more motivated to street wear and know i know the diffrence first i whas thinking doing tshirt bussiness to see your vlogs i wanne do streetwear , i gone start small thanks
I started with a t-shirt brand then took a break and I have been ghost designing for big brands for last 4 years, I am about to launch my own thing, had to watch this vid and I agree with the man. Anyone who needs some free advice learnt from my failures and successes hit me up, or if you need help creating a line. @blessmaz I think working a job you do not love and have no passion for is the modern day slavery, so to everyone here let's chase our passions, but chase them with business knowledge (free resources everywhere) otherwise we won't succeed. Rooting for everyone here coz creativity breeds love, diversity and passion in a divided world.
A t-shirt line isnt a brand. You need something distinguishable from other designer brands. Like for me starting my brand, I've designed purses that I've honestly haven't seen online or in my weirdest dreams. Something that will attract customers with a good and/or weird(in a good way) sense of fashion that will catch the attention of others creating that market value increase because of the public eye and attraction. Thats a fashion brand
t shirt line and a fashion brand are not the same but that doesnt mean that you cant make a t shirt line and become successful. who cares what its called as long as you make it
I run a T-shirt line but what I really wan to do is start a cut and sew fashion brand but I’m curious on how much capital I will need to start that transition into a “fashion Brand”
Hey Reggie can I ask you the id of your necklace? When i was living in Tokyo I used to see many people wearing that jewls queuing close to a small yellow building in omotensando just before atmos, yours is from the same brand?
I'm currently in Fashion Design University, playing with various fabrics with goals of designing my own line and or working on projects with those who inspire me. とうきょう いたち
I'm in the graphic tee space. To be honest 95% of wantrapreneurs don't know how to market or close a customer....if you're starting without a following or niche to sell to you're definitely going to have to spend $$$ to test and see what design works for certain audiences....it's not easy...but challenging. Some people just think they can post their logo and a few stats, a few gary vee positive vids and that's it lol. Even worse..a bullshit logo on a shirt and sell it...with no influencer marketing, no kind of paid marketing...unless u get lucky and a celeb retweet or comment on ur post...good luck with that.
Preach! It took me upwards ten years to become a full time design creative and entrepreneur and to be recognized in Canada and ship internationally. I recycle vintage clothes that are edgy and catches the eye. Sustainable Fashion is something all up and coming brands must put into consideration. The clothing I create is perfect for performers and bold fashion buyers. I have designed for rapper Lil Peep + DJ Kristian Nairn(otherwise known as Hodor from Game Of Thrones). I definitely feel it is more important now than ever that each brand has a true DNA and heartbeat to its vision, rather than a superficial undertone and basic tee vibe. Thanks for your videos dude
My issue with people making brands nowadays is that I can see through them and can already tell what they want from the industry because all they do is metal fonts on white T-shirts lmao

"(...) a T-shirt line is not a fashion brand." Thank you for saying it!
Actually i searched for FAMOUS CLOTHING BRANDS CASE STUDY and this came up and lemme tell you I'm already a owner of online clothing brand and Alhamdulillah it's working awesome so don't let anyone fool you 🔥 IF YOU WANT IT, DO IT
Mashallah u are a Muslim and keep the grind my brother
@@MrGrzly jazakAllah Brother🙌
good video! glad someone is speaking about fashion how it is and not how someone would like it to be
As always, invaluable insight and no bs approach. Thank you, bro.
When is episode 2 of strEATs coming out?
*Just curious*
Soon as we get our system back running.😉

RELATABLE ‼️‼️
Thank you for this video. Helped me to get perspective a lot. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Really.
I have very short attention span when the person just talks on the vid but this guy really gets my attention 100% of the whole video and that says a lot.
This is Amazing not discouraging at all 💕
Like how you guys create & talk about the topics in each video...thank you for the wisdom
thanks for the heads up! tho I still want to pursue fashion school regardless :)
Oh then you're going to do big things. Get after it. Luck favors the prepared.
Am still gonna start my brand
Also hope everything is good with the hard drive situation so glad you didn’t quit
Great video. Keep up the good work.
How did you first begin working with artisans and getting your bfa in design
And THAT’S why I’m a Business student , Finance Major
. NOT a Fashion student.
i really wanna get info about your course! what’s your insta?
This video is a literally A GEM 💎 I can’t believe I stumbled across this 💛 thank you for this 🙏💛
Not watching. Clicked on the video just to say that nothing in the world can stop me from starting my fashion brand. Good luck everyone !!
You should’ve made this video before all the how to start a brand videos
Love the video!
Hi Reggie this video was very informative! Please make more videos like this
5:03 foreshadowing THE CASUAL fashion line!!?!?
You should not be discouraged to start a brand but this is the reality of starting a brand today
Can’t watch rn but will come back later so happy to see this in my sub box
These r the people that try let u down but we keep trying
What a great episode, then Je-Sus put the cherry on top 😅👌
I am a big thrifter I have been thinking about starting a brand where I print over old single stitch tees
That sounds like a cool idea
I agree with a lot of what you're saying, however, if you ask every single person who purchases from say supreme, or a more generic and affordable brand let's say topshop if they know the background of a the business, i wonder how many people actually do? maybe 25-30% for supreme? and wayyyy less for topshop maybe 1-5% of people that buy from their store. I do agree with a brand having an identity but all i'm saying is that its not the bottom line, the large majority of people buy clothing of the back of an emotional buy rather than a rational. As long as you have some eye catching design's, focussed target audience and a solid business/marketing strategy i would say you have quite a good foundation to build on
what are the basics equipment you need to start a small scale fashion manufacturing unit please.. apart from sewing machines ? thanks please help..
This was great. Thanks for the real talk.
Gems in this episode 💎
this get me more motivated to street wear and know i know the diffrence first i whas thinking doing tshirt bussiness to see your vlogs i wanne do streetwear , i gone start small thanks
I started with streetwear!
nice vid man!
Great info. I started my brand because I want to solve the problems.
WT problem u solved
January 2021, wait on it !
He tryna eliminate competition!
Aye. Hey guys, I hope you had a great day or you are still having a great day. Fuck it up.
I quit my job already tho...
Thato Thamae Good luck lol
Imma watch why I definitely should start a brand next lolol
Very Good Video
nice analysis
Great video
Hey Reggie can I ask you the id of your necklace? When i was living in Tokyo I used to see many people wearing that jewls queuing close to a small yellow building in omotensando just before atmos, yours is from the same brand?
shiitt now what do i do with all of these design i made
3:32 what brand is this?
A cold wall
Thanks for the Video.
What do you think of starting a brand with kickstarter?? like if you don't have a youtube channel or are an instagram model?
Thank you
There is nothing to fear to start a clothing brand because I have also opened
Im still going to start my brand
I'm currently in Fashion Design University,
playing with various fabrics with goals of
designing my own line and or working on
projects with those who inspire me.

im so glad i sub to u man~ u duh man
I'm in the graphic tee space.
Yow straight up this is legit!
Yo valid points I will take from this make from this facts
My issue with people making brands nowadays is that I can see through them and can already tell what they want from the industry because all they do is metal fonts on white T-shirts lmao
Mine is different 😘
Nice one
It's pretty cool!
