Former service writer and mechanic here. Ken unfortunately your got sucked into the unscrupulous practice of upselling. The dealerships are the worse to take your vehicle to for any repairs unless it’s warranty. I would have asked for explanation and visual inspection of the issues with the caliper. Did they show you a test strip for the acidity of the brake fluid? Did you check the brake fluid to see if it was indeed changed? I think they just took advantage of you. The tire rotation should have been free, since they needed to take the wheels off for the brakes they shouldn’t have charged you for the rotation.
Ken always wants to support mom and pop shops until it comes to car repair that’s where dealerships makes there money is in the service bay and this proves it
Wow. You got ripped a new one Ken. You should NEVER take your vehicle to the dealership unless it's under warranty and they are footing the bill!
We have owned a garage for 3 generations. So 50 yrs plus now. Do not take it to the dealership and please shop around. There are trusted places you can find that are small businesses that could use the business and will not rip You a new one!!! Just my advice. Love the videos but this was a hard one to watch. I hate to see anyone taken advantage of!!!

@@KENS_WRINKLY_POINTER_FINGER Also they charged for tire rotation when they were already doing a brake job. They already have two tires off and on a lift, it literally takes them 2 minutes to swap the tires around. They shouldn't have charged for that.
I stopped taking my car to the dealership for a long time now, and we saved big. That amount of money is like from halfway to a third of the way to buying a used replacement Rusty.

I have been to regular shops that may be cheaper, but the after market products they install, the wear and tear is much faster because of the cheap parts. The best is to buy your own parts and bring it to a trusted mechanic whether that be a dealership or not, and always inspect the job when it is done before you leave, if practical.

It's maybe because Rusty doesn't exactly scream camper vibes, whereas Moose is clearly a camping vehicle, so it would probably stick out more than just a Chrysler van
Why does it matter if it sticks out as a camper van? Isn’t that the whole point?
@@xDanielsan- Well I think it's because certain businesses do not allow overnight parking/camping vehicles. A stealth camper just looks like a regular car so maybe they don't worry too much, but an actual camping van might be told to go somewhere else. At least I think - Ken has said it in the past about not all businesses or parking lots allow for that.
@@xDanielsan- You are right... what is the worst they do ask him to leave, then it is maybe more content... but sleeping in the same parking lot as you eat... does not add too much more interest then just camping in a van and doing the same food content. Maybe finding urban camping van spot could add more same/more appeal then Rusty.
If you don’t get your tires rotated at the required mileage interval per your tires specs, it voids any future warranty. It also causes your tires to wear out faster.
Warranty is clearly not a factor on this van.

Im wondering how you were able to remote start Rusty With a check engine light on, Most cars a check engine light wont let you remote start
I had a KIA that was no wanted to touch because it was too much trouble so I had to bring it to the dealership. They would always try to upcharge me and get me to buy OEM parts. I had a sit down with the service manager and told him that it was a 12 year old car.... I'm only trying to have it last untill the timing belt goes or the transmission. He agreed with me and from then on we only did essential maintaince and he allowed me to used cheaper parts I brought myself.
For the break flush... ask to see the fluid... if its dark or dirty replace it.
For the break pads... ask how many mm left? more than 5mm wait.
For the rotors... was it making noise or vibrating? no... don't need replacing
Sure you can by by millage.... but when are car is that old... you can stretch it if you'll be the last owner
But at least you have peace of mind that Rusty is in good working order as it's revenue generating

I know rusty is bear bones on the outside so you cant tell its a camperized van. However, once you put up your window covers on and so forth, it really isn't stealth at all anymore. People don't usually "cover" all their windows unless they plan to sleep in it. So many people sleep in vehicles and its quite obvious.
Anywhoo, love your videos and your stealth vids are my favorite. Just giving my 2 cents thats all.
Did they even call you about the possible stuff they were wanting to do? I'd have just done the pads and rotors, oil, tires. And got a second opinion about calipers. You got ripped off for sure.
new or old maintenance is the longevity of a vehicle oil changes etc. by the time something severe like transmission etc you’ll be looking at ten grand bill 💸 by then rusty will have to be replaced she’ll be not worth much. But to continue driving for content that’s an item to consider and rust removal grafting in new metal. New door motors etc. Plus with older vehicles it’s part of the fun fun. But being rusty is from earlier time before stalantis might last longer. Quality now and the price of even rusty brand new Your hair would grow back

I gotta do my rear brakes in the spring and not looking forward to it lol. Commenters have to know that its pretty average up here for brakes to cost at least $600+ for front or rear unless you can repair on your own.
