  • Kingsville, Texas, was founded in 1904 by the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway. The city was named after Richard King, the founder of the King Ranch, which is located just outside of town. Kingsville quickly grew as a railroad hub and a center for the cattle industry. In 1913, the city became the county seat of Kleberg County.

Lived there from 1964-1967. Graduated from H. M. King High in 1967. Texas theater is still the same as when I went to see Cantiflas films to improve my Spanish comprehension for my language class. Remember the big department store fire in April 1966 when an employee opened the freight door on the north side of the store because there was a small fire in the front of the store on the north side. Wind was fierce that day, blowing from the south. It made the fire travel quickly through the store like a blow torch! Upsetting many people's lives because, they now had to drive to Corpus Christi to obtain what was locally available. Lots of other events. Some drove down to Mexico to get some weed, supposedly at a football game. Wrecked the car south of Rivera, TX & the panels of the car scarred the girls legs up very badly. Black stockings for her after that.

Just because a place is old doesn't make it historic. There's absolutely NOTHING historic about that sad little town.

I lived there from 2014-2022. I liked it. It’s quiet and everything is in close proximity. Myself and and my family are actually moving back permanently in Feb. Whatever happened to the 2017 Downtown revitalization project though? Downtown was supposed to have gotten a makeover. The Texas theater was supposed to have been fixed up. Is that dead now?
