  • Texas has seen a boom in its growth in recent years. In 2022, it became the second state in the country to pass 30 million in population, with only California having a greater population. In fact, between 2000 and 2022, 11 of Texas’s 254 counties more than doubled, the entire state gained over 9 million people, and in 2022 alone the population increased by over 470,000!
Yet, despite cities like Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso seeing tremendous amounts of growth, there are some places in Texas that, well, simply aren’t that desirable to live in. Today on Across the Globe we’re going to be looking at the top 10 worst places to live in Texas.

The lower RGV is also one of the lowest incomes levels in the country, and has the highest recipients of Medicaid and other gov subsidies. From this Texans POV, half of the cities on this list are on the US/Mexico border. I'll give anyone 3 guesses why those particular cities are not the most ideal locations to move to. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to many, the Mexican cartels operate the border on both sides and have for many years. Hopefully, when a border wall is fully implemented, we will see substantial imprivements. That is whst we anticipate anyhow.
Yes, Lubbock is boring. It sits practucallybon the middle of the state. It is a college town and the closest larger cities are Amarillo & Abikene, both which are just as boring as Lubbock.
Arlington surprised me as it is home to the Texas Rangers and the Cowboys. Also, Six Flags abd Hurricane Harbor (formerly Wet n' Wild). But even more than this, Arlington is the central point fir Dallas/Ft Worth which makes everything accessible depending on which way one goes.
Dallas/Ft Worth surprised me not because of cost of living but because anything and everything one could wish to do is somewhere around here.
What truly makes things horrible, especially here in DFW is traffic! Too many people moving here too fast. I know it's a great state but if people continue to move here at this rate, we won't be for long.

I do not care what people say I love Lubbock. However the part about us being one of the most boring places, is highly accurate. There is nothing to do here except eat out at restaurants😂. You won't see me complain however, because I would much rather live in a boring City with good roads and low traffic, than live in a city like Dalles or Austin where it will take you twice the time to drive where you need to go due to tourists, than it would here.
Also I feel that it is important to note that what was said about our weather is very over exaggerated. I have been in college in Oklahoma City for the last year and they have much worse weather. I doubt think we had a single tornado last year in Lubbock, but we had three or four last year in Oklahoma city, and I was told by those who live in Oklahoma that tornados are a regular occurrence. That is not the case for Lubbock; we seldom get tornados. Our thunderstorms are also not as bad as this video would have you believe.

Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth... 3 distinctively separate cities, each with their own mayor, political, and voter base, are all part of the D/FW area spanning across multiple counties. All three have a plethora of entertainment, commerce, and residential options for each tax bracket despite cost of living differences. Arlington is in Tarrant County. Dallas is in the neighboring Dallas County. Yet the official stadium for the Dallas Cowboys is in Arlington. But that does not make them the same city.

Well I'm in the RGV also. It's nice here but, property taxes are very high and it's very hot here. High 90s to 116 or so. Hard to do things out in that hot weather. It's easy to move around, we have some very nice roads here. Car prices here tend to be higher. I think that is due to a monopoly on the business. I think they could combine several towns like McAllen, Mission, Alton, Edinburgh and a few more into one city. These towns are all continguous. It's not bad here. We have everything any other city has and a lot more peaceful than many other cities.

McAllen has a trhiving mall that has withstood the test of time. it is impressive! They have every brand you can think of. There are a ton of stores filled with merchandise, a ton of mom and pop businesses, a ton of infrastructure growth... freeways, stores, houses. None of that would be happening in the worst city to live in. I do appreciate the great laugh I had, because i just bought a house here and LOVE IT! Best kept secret! Shh!
