House of pie is a chain. We have one here in Sydney Australia, I’ve tried it and nup. Prefer the local independent bakeries in NZ.

Next visit to Auckland bro, you gotta go to the Blue Rose Cafe in Sandringham. Their pies are soo yum. Gotta try their Palusami pies (corned beef and taro), but make sure to go early in the day, before they sell out 😆. I find the Lemon Meringue Pies too sweet for my liking. A custard pie (with a sweet short pastry base, maybe like your "gram crackers"🤔) is much nicer, especially when chilled.
Living in the South Island, i would honestly recommend trying. The Butchers Pie Shop in River Side Market Christchurch or Fat Bastard Pies in Invercargill.

It’s a shame the majority of Kiwis tell foreigners to try mince or mince and cheese. Steak and cheese you never go wrong even if the bakery is mid. It’s very hard to find a good mince and cheese pies.

For a dessert type of pie in nz I recommend you try our boring looking custard pie over here you will find it in every bakery in nz and let us know what you think ok I’d say it will surprise you for such a humble little cold pie. Hay Twano, Homemade apple crumble pie with cinnamon, yum. Homemade Lemon meringue, lemony, yum. Never tried coconut. NOT a huge cheese person. NOT to much gravy. Love a meaty pie a little on the hot side with a flakey pastry, NOT soggy pastry. Homemade Bacon and egg, pie. Yum. Pies today are sooo pricey. What use to be 1.50, is now between 5 - 7 dollars, crazy...👍☝️🙂
If you are ever doing a truck run to Taos New Mexico I have seen on TH-cam that there is a kiwi lady that has a pie truck called Aly's pies.
NZ does meat pies, USA does fruit and desert pies.

New Zealand pies and Aussie pies are very similar. You can get some pies in LA at bronzed Aussie or in Chicago at Barangaroos Aussie pies
