I had to google Afromosia since I never heard of it. It is an African wood which is also used as Teak replacement. Afromosia is listed in the Washington Conservation agreement as well. So it can be traded rarely - just like Teak. This is due to not further destroy more habitat of even more rare species like wood elephant or the Orang Utans. So I cherish that you could turn such a nice and rare piece of wood - especially since I know that you care for trees Rod. The poem you wrote and read here on TH-cam shows that very clearly to me. I try to avoid buying Teak or other rare wood species as much as possible. Especially since we have fast growing pines here in Europe. Semper Fi.
Wow, what a gorgeous piece of wood, Rod! I'd never heard of it, either. You tamed that beast and produced a really beautiful turning. Keep'em coming! Phil
It may have been a pain in the tail to turn, but you did it, and it is GORGEOUS! Thank you for showing this beautiful turn! God bless you, and Semper Fi!
Rod.......this is gorgeous I have never turned Ambrosia before but I am definitely going to try and find some, I made a platter a short time ago from Walnut and Oak and its the exact same shape as this and I love it as I love this also the shape is gorgeous 👍👍👍
Hi Rod it is just awesome and stunningly beautiful this platter. I am from South Africa and I have not heard of this wood before, the country in Africa where this wood comes from must be just as dry as that wood. But wow it is so beautiful.
Another fan mentioned it resembled tiger’s eye, and that is a very apt description, the way the different browns and gold glow warmly. Thanks for the intro to this wood, and the glimpse of your “Mr. Wilson” impression! Ya dun gud... one the impression and platter 🙂
Hi Rod, Kris Lee from high school. I stumbled across your channel and was very impressed by your talent and beautiful pieces you create. Keep up the good work! Xo.
I have never seen wood grain like that before...so beautiful. I bet it's a lot of fun picking out a chunk of wood, and then watching as its beautiful secrets are unveiled. Thank-you for letting me share the adventure.
When I noticed all the dust I thought maybe have it stabilized with resin but then I noticed this isn't Peter Brown's channel. :) That platter looks absolutely gorgeous.
haha! Peter Brown is awesome! Honestly this stuff doesn't need stabilizing, super dense and very stabile wood. Insect and rot resistant too. Thanks very much!
‘Bout time! My better half was about to throw a conniption ‘cause she hadn’t seen a new video from you. But, not to worry! Another beautiful and rare masterpiece!!
Great wood turning, MSGT Humphrey. Nice piece of wood you introduced me to looking into. Suggest folks look the wood up on a wood database before buying a piece since there are potential health issues dealing with respiratory and neurological issues. It was good you wore a dust mask!
Thank you brother! Yes, very interesting wood. I read about it before I turned it, thankfully. Perfectly food safe now, but the dust can be a problem. In regards to your email... Semper Fidelis!
Afromosia is a beautifully patterned wood. I used a piece to turn a handle for a friend who was restoring a mangle from the 50s. The piece you used for your project has a particularly lovely pattern. Well done sir.
This platter turned out gorgeous. All the wood grain is absolutely amazing. The photo shares were gorgeous as well. Thank you for sharing your work and others.
Wow Rod that is beautiful wood, I have not heard of it. But there are so many woods available it is simply amazing what has been created for us. Great job on the turning. God Bless and Semper Fi as well, Gary
Good afternoon, brother. Happy you saw this piece setting on the shelf and shared it with us. I definitely did a double take when the corners blew away from the blank. Nice effect. The piece turned out excellent. You have an eye for great beauty before it has yet been uncovered. God bless and Semper Fi
Call this one Jupiter. Maybe the spot isn't red but Jupiter is the first thing I thought when I saw it finished. The color and figure is really spectacular. You kept it simple and that really worked. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay healthy.
Thank you for a great video WITHOUT annoying background noise. Beautiful platter.
RON THAT PLATTER CAME OUT AWESOM .I LOVE THE GRAIN FROM DOUG

Rod, that is a flashy platter when turning. Nicely done sir.
Another fan mentioned it resembled tiger’s eye, and that is a very apt description, the way the different browns and gold glow warmly. Thanks for the intro to this wood, and the glimpse of your “Mr. Wilson” impression! Ya dun gud... one the impression and platter 🙂
