By far the best video on this topic! I really enjoy the explanation. No other video explains how the combos work. Now I totally understand! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!
He was my very first commander back when I bought his precon deck... very great commander for different levels of power! I later switched to a Scarab God deck but I still use him in the 99... Nice video and keep up the good work! 💜
I tried it (Scarab god) and it didn't work out so well we also tried Gisa and Geralf but we didn't like the self-mill so we are stuck with Wilhelt for now. Maybe we will try Scarab God again in the future and see how it plays out! And thank you for your positivity and comments it means a lot to us ^^
Very cool. some other cards I would consider adding are "Champion of the Perished" a one black 1/1 that gets +1/+1 whenever a zombie enters the battlefield. And Ghoulish Procession, a one colorless one black enchantment that whenever a nontoken creature dies once per turn create a 2/2 decayed zombie. I also like the Geralf, Visionary Stitcher for flying zombies. and Geralf, the Fleshwright for lots of +1/+1 counters the more zombies that enter and creating zombies every time you cast a spell past your first spell.
Those cards are more for a token attack defend more "fair" version of wilhelt, and we did try all of them! we dont run those because we normaly tend to try to do more explosive things than that and we had to cut some cards, those were the ones
Im running Wilhelt with infinite draw by using Archghoul of Thraben, you can also use altar of dementia as an alternate finisher if your bored from aristocrats. I use Death greeter instead of Blood Artist to compensate Dark Prophecy, Undead Augur and Midnight Reaper. Explosive card draw from Liliana's Standard Bearer or Body Count.
Really nice deck concept, eventho I would love to see some more underrated/nieche commanders. It always feels so refreshing seeing a underused card find a home in a new deck. For example I just build a Zoyowa lava tongue deck, and i'm having a blast playing it. Would love to see your take on this commander (if the rakdos spot is still open in your 32 challange) Much love from italy, rly love the content! :)
Thank you so much for your comment it means a lot to see people enjoying the videos me and Nuno are doing. We have two commanders that we are planing to do videos on next that more underused and nieches and one of them is indeed Rakdos! It is not Zoyowa...BUT Zoyowa is indeed on the deck, its Laughing Jasper Flint, the other deck is our Gyome, Master Chef, we are gonna decide what to do next but for sure 100% its gonna be one of these two.
You should add walking ballista……..cast mikaeus then cast walking ballista for 0, triggers undying remove counter to deal 1 damage and gg. Also as an altar blasting station is a great choice as well.
Sorry to correct you on this one but the combo doesn´t work like that. The problem is that Mikaeus gives WB a static +1/+1 as it is a non-human. So Walking ballista needs to be saced to a sac outlet to go infinite becasue it doesn´t die even if you cast it for 0. If you want a truly 2 card combo with Mikaeus it is with Triskellion because Triskellion can use the last +1/+1 counter to target itself to kill it for undying to trigger.
@@macces82 thx and yea I figured it out later and yes, sub triskelion for infinite but harder to execute on the same turn; however there is still the rooftop storm/acererak combo.
Loved this and love your content! If I'm building this deck from scratch, would it be better to buy the Wilhelt precon as a base to upgrade, or just purchase all the singles instead?
Glad you liked it! Be aware we did change some cards from this decklist, you can use the link for a more up to date decklist with the new cards from Modern Horizons 3 etc. To respond to your question, IF you can get the Precon at a "normal" price I would say go for it, as you would be able to train a little bit and see if you like the deck and than improve on it with the singles. If you only find the Precon super expensive go for the singles instead. ^^

@@EdhSpellcasters Before i write anything else, thanks alot, not only for the fast reply but the amazing video/primer, gave me a good insight and fully understand the list. Ive been torn between which zombie commander to play. I have 3 pet cards in my binder that are the main reason that i keep thinking about building one, Beta Zombie Master, foil and signed Lord of the Undead, and foil and signed unholy grotto. Sadly they dont really fit wilhelt that well since it lends more to a combo kind of deal, even though I could probably squeeze some stuff in, was thinking about Varina, but having white doesnt feel "zombie" that much and Scarab feels more like a reanimator than a zombie deck, so im a bit unsure. Any suggestions or ideas?
Zombie Master - Zombie master is a good alternative if you also add Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, so your tokens can attack without worrying about blockers. Lord of the Undead - Its a good card, bad for combo sure but it can do good work in your deck Unholy grotto - Its easy, you just need to cut a island for it, we would also add it if we had it Scarab I also understand why people like it, personally I think is...not as good as it once was and Kinda bad actually with the new cards releasing and the speed of the game in general, it just doesn't do what it used to. Varina is a good alternative, you do gain access to cards like: Wayward Servant Corpse Knight Ratadrabik of Urborg God-Eternal Oketra Necromancer's Covenant and more important Anointed Procession! its really up to personal taste, Wilhelt is just so much value, the other ones cannot keep up, I dream of a good mono black alternative but until that day comes, Wilhelt is still the best option
I just recently brought this back out from the grave since there's the new Gisa and Geralf that can help it out. I have just about the same build, but using a few more non-zombie pingers like Ayara, First of Lochtwain for ETB triggers, Syr Konrad for mill and death triggers, and Blood Artist to get the "commit a crime" trigger for the new Gisa while draining. While Geralf helps with additional etb triggers since you get additional zombies after the first spell you've cast.
You thinking of adding the new skaab ruinator to the list? And how come no gringrin, since it also has the sac triggers and can be another copy of carrion feeder that’s more powerful
704.5r "If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it." Multiple reasons: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Stitcher Geralf - too much mana Gisa, the Hellraiser // Gisa, Glorious Resurrector // Geralf, the Fleshwright - the abilities don't relate really well with our deck Gisa and Geralf - we had it in our list but ended up replacing it for Havengul Lich, to avoid milling wincons by mistake. Geralf, Visionary Stitcher - its good if our plan is attaking, however, this is not our main win con so it doesnt do as much Not being Zombies themselves also doesnt help ^^
The deck never attacks so the attack trigger is of no use, plus we have so many thematic cards and ways to reach our cards and goals that the deck doesn't need even more draw. Wilhelt will take care of it^^ Plus, kindred discovery would be very ugly on this deck and that also counts, we only have one copy of it and its running on our merfolk deck if I am not wrong.
Same reason why we don't run that much protection, to avoid the games running always the same as is very easy to break the game with zombies, this way the deck is strong but it can be stopped and you still have fun playing it, a go wide is also interesting though, maybe someday we will do something similar to that
@@EdhSpellcasters Also, have you thought about swapping Gisa and Geralf with Havenghul Lich? It's one more mana, but you don't risk milling your combo pieces.
@@ginobarone9505 you know what, I am always switching the 2 around for each other, I think Im gonna switch them again and leave the lich in instead of gisa and geralf
No reason, I just feel like if I need to play counters i need a package of them and not just 1 or 2, 1 or 2 is not reliable enough to justify running them, as they never show up when I need them. In a more high power or competitive deck yes I love running them, in my case I use my Pirate deck you can check on our moxfield, and Sara uses a Queza deck with some aswell. That and the fact that the deck looks more thematic and fun to play.
