- Peter Wildoer talks about his different approaches in Darkane opposed to his work with James LaBrie and explains changes in his ways of composing as well as incorporating fusion drumming and foreign sources of inspiration such as Indian music.
Futhermore he gives insight into the necessity of comfort behind the drumkit and how to make the gear work for you instead of submitting to it.
Finally he outlines his enduring and seemingly hopeless pain and how he got rid of it through changing his technique. Thanks to Peter for a great interview and a memorable show with Darkane.

Peter is a great guy..his drumming is nothing short of amazing. He’s a beast!
Peter is amazing. I too do believe that the last two Jame's albums, is his best work. Just fantastic!
One of my "top 3" favorite drummers !! Musical, technical, creative and open-minded.
It's been a few years, but I used to talk with Peter over Facebook, he and I would talk about different sounds, recording, and quite a bit of technique. He was always such a cool, super down to earth guy and that made me respect him even more.
Static Impulse is the best metal album that i ever heard. All songs are gold. I cant get tired of it ultil today. Great lines, energy, creativity, groove. Everything is there. Thanks very much for the back pain and tendinities part of the interview. That was very important. really.
This is great! Been listening since Insanity. That album was mind blowing on release. Best production of technical deathmetal at the time. It needs more praise.
Same here! Insanity is still my favourite Darkane release, love it to this day!
thanks for your comment, cheers/phil
Peters work on James Labries solo albums put the new DT stuff to shame. Its so musical and creative despite playing pulsating genres of music. Easily of the my favorite metal drummers for the last 6 years. I wish he would get more exposure and opportunities. Hes so precise.
The James Labrie albums just seem to breathe more when compared to Dream Theater. It's a great change of pace for James and I think it fits his voice very well. Peter's drumming just made it that much better for me.
Peter really looks like he's a simple, nice guy on top of being an awesome drummer, I love him :D
+ChaosPotato From an almost two decade friendship point of view I can tell you: HE IS !
Not as famous as many, but this guy is the real deal. The James Labrie albums are my favorite in the genre. If you are a big fan of Peter, be sure to check out his early work with Lalle Larsson. It is very unique and extremely interesting.
One of the best drummers in metal!!!
I just saw your audition for Dream Theater. For me you were the best
Amazing Drummer Right Here. I was able to see this Soilwork /Darkane Tour. Darkane stole the Show to me. Wildoer was intense.
Dirk was injured and couldn't barely walk for a few days. Peter even had to fill in for Dirk on a few shows. Dirk had to save his energy since they were about to record a full length live show in Helsinki the following night if I remember correctly...
@@drumtalkofficial Was that the European tour. I saw them in San Antonio. Maybe that was a Different Tour?
@@drumtalkofficial I think it was the Demonic Art Album they were Supporting. My bad.
this was in 2014 in Dordrecht/Netherlands... so yeah, might have been a different tour
@@drumtalkofficial 👍🤘
I´ve been using that kind of grip for at least 10 years now when I got into the Murray Spivack stuff…..works best for me !
+M.A. Nathaniel hey Marc, thanks for stopping by and writing something. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I should.... the 200+ stuff could use a more relaxed approach :-)
I have 3 drummers on my bucketlist which I would have loved to track a song with. Jeff Porcaro, Hellhammer and Peter Wildoer. ‘Nuff said.
Vader shirt.. bonus.
Bell bottom jeans... not a bonus.
His nickname should be "E", so that he would be Peter "E" Wildoer ^^
