    You have Lombardo, then you got Sandoval, then....You got MAX KOLESNE! Such an inspiration for me as a metal drummer, and one of the coolest dudes (ALL of Krisiun even FTM) in the whole scene.Hails Max!

    That's why I think Max is one of the best drummers in the world. No triggers, no bullshit. Just mics and attitudes in studios and albuns. Real music performed by real people.

    Had the honour of meeting Max and chatting with him! Shared the stage with him! He’s a great guy and one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen! Such a humble man and I hope to meet him again!

    Love this guy he seems so warm and down to earth. Also u can tell just how passionate he is about his drumming and just music in general. Plus he has his own style of playing which is blatantly obvious and that is no small feat in the death metal world where most drummers sound the same

    All is said...
    One of the best, and he prove it by his longivity.
    His "signature" blastbeats with triplet on bass drums and 16th on hands (and reverse when he's on a triplet feel blast) remembering the brazilian rythms, and the independance going with it.
    A true character, and we can hear it on his drumming.
    Respect.

    Pete Sandoval and Max Kolesne are the symbol of death metal drums. Total respect to this guy. The Kolesne brothers are so friendly and humble. If there’s something in this world that someone should do before day is going to a Krisiun concert. There nothing heavier than it!

      Max is insane. I saw them live on Monday with Nile. I could feel every beat on my chest. My ribcage felt like it was about to splatter on the floor haha. He's so hard hitting and fast. I was standing right infront the stage. The venue was so sweaty, you could see steam coming off Max haha

    Max Kolesne na minha opinião é um dos melhores bateristas do mundo ao lado do George Kollias do Nile, Pete Sandoval (ex-Morbid Angel, Terrorizer), Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer), Igor Cavalera (ex-Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy), Derek Roddy (ex-Nile, ex-Hate Eternal), Dave Culross (ex-Malevolent Creation, Suffocation), Emil Dragutinovic (ex-Marduk) e entre outros.

      problem is he's not exactly that often in a managable distance anymore. There's him, Ed Warby, Steve Flynn, Pete Sandoval and a bunch of other oldschool guys I would love to do an episode with. But it's always opportunity combined with luck that makes it reality. unfortunately these guys don't visit my place... at least not yet.... :-)

  • @mattvdh
    @mattvdh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I mostly agree with Max about how metal drummers these days are pussying out and using replacements and ruining the 'attitude' or personality. Good message, however, I do love playing with triggers because it makes certain parts so 100x more awesome. I think jon longstreth is a good example of how to retain feel and use triggers. If you were to mic his kick, it wouldn't sound that much different after heavy compression and EQ because he the fucking master at doubles and has actual power in his fast strokes. I don't think Origin quantizes their albums though but he does play to a click all of the time so kind of the opposite of Max.

    • @HabAnagarek
      @HabAnagarek 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like they don't quantize. I doubt John really needs a click, but they don't and aren't able to rehearse and rehearse before they record; they hammer out the songs like weeks before and record each part separately, so it has to match. Live is where it's at with Origin, they kill.

      Uh yeah, their 3rd album till now Max obviously used KICK DRUM triggers, and through the years the drum "samples" are used via the Tom's BUT...The man PLAYS the shit you hear, LIVE and in the STUDIO! BIG DIFFERENCE when comparing to ALOT of "extreme metal" drummers of today where EVERYTHING is so perfect and tight on studio, and then when/IF you see em live, you are in for major letdown. Lol. BIG difference.... Plus, Max and Krisiun DON'T USE a click track either... LoL..So ....

      MINE too...Ugh. What a disappointment it was for me after Conquering. SMDH. And I was a HUGE fan before and up till that one till about their last couple. The 1st 3 cds will ALWAYS be their best!

    • @tchildres
      @tchildres 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamescon55 Imagine if they re-recorded it though? The riffs and songs are great, so great that I've gotten past the production. Obviously Conqueror's owns quality wise, but at least Ageless is clear. I could only imagine Ageless with Assassination quality!

    • @jamescon55
      @jamescon55 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tchildres There are ALOTTA people that have said that but....? Lol. I still am just not a fan of the riffs/music on it. Yes, there are a couple ok things here n there, the instrumental is good but... Yeah, from Ageless and there on IS where they "lost me." I like the analog album during that time but EVERYTHING up till Southern Storm (which is okay) just sounded uninspired and bores the HELL outta me, personally. It isn't really MUCH different than "most" artists/bands. 1st couple-few releases are GREAT, then "most" the time, ALL the follow up stuff? Just sucks.... I mean look at Slayer,Morbid, etc. CAN'T seem to write ANYTHING listenable in their last 20 or MORE years ..... SMDH 😒 It's sad.....

    • @tchildres
      @tchildres 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamescon55 Very true man for some bands their 1st albums are their best albums because they have their whole life to write them. Even if a Tadd of the earlier albums are sloppy they are still real and raw and great song writing well crafted songs. I do like the works of carnage album as well, But I know what you mean on the later albums. I like when they kept the fast vocals and not chopping the time in half to slower. I will still always support them

  • @PeeWeeHermitGames

    I love this dude, but anyone else confused how he talks about not sounding like a machine, yet his drums sound completely flat and triggered?

  • @jaybat1184
    @jaybat1184 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Real" and "Fake" are merely relative concepts, completely subjective to any given individuals point of view.
    Well... Ok, so I understand the concern about drum programming, but what if your passionate about making extreme music, and you think you have great ideas for how the drums should be, yet you are primarily a guitarist and you don't have the ability to play them the way you imagine or you just don't have access to a drummer who plays the way you need? or worse yet, you're in a fucking wheelchair for some shitty reason? Should you only stick to hand drums and soft piano music(nothing wrong with that of course) even though you're consumed from deep within your wanton, withering soul by impossible sounding blast beat variations?
    And that brings me to another point; imagine the early days of drumming, I mean way early, a time when it was only hand drums and cave fires, and the people were fine with that. then, one fateful day, some ass hole comes along and starts hittin' shit with sticks! I bet there were a few die hards who dismissed this as "cheating" or "fake" or even downright lazy compared to just using your hands and fingers. "who need sticks?" they'd say,(in a yiddish accent for some reason) "if you can get enough volume with just the hands,(southern accent now) you ain't doin it right!"
    Where was the line drawn that separated which technologies ARE acceptable to use, from those that were NOT when it came to percussion?
    Then you have the kick pedal.
    Before those were invented(or accessible), people were literally kicking the drum, and that worked just fine, then suddenly(more southern accents) here come this fainsee-painsee new contraption that completely took all the work out of it. why is it even called a kick pedal? you're not kicking, you're tapping your toe. It's doing all the kicking for you and nowadays, many of these pedals are made with the assistance of computer programming(oh no! not computer programs!).
    If you want to be truly real about it, you'd make your own pedal by forging your own steel, engineering and fially assembling any other material you need to make one yourself, instead of just buying one from the store like a "pussy."
    Don't get me wrong, I LOVE KRISIUN! Their music inspires me on many levels. I sleep, eat, drink and even fuck my girlfriend to it constantly.
    It's just that...
    Max's attitude on some points is unfortunately narrow and predictable(unlike his playing), while inspiring and thought provoking on others(much like his playing).
    If I could get any point across these vast waters of judge-mental ignorance it would go like this: we must take a deeper look into all these conceited convictions that get thrown around by so many notable musicians, rather then just accepting(or rejecting) them so readily; simply because we may be a fan of someone does not mean they are always "right" or "wrong," but, then... again, notions of "right" and "wrong" are still only relatively subjective concepts unto themselves anymore(but duh, i'm sure you knew that already right?).
    Conceptually yours,
    -mr. wrong

    • @pk-films
      @pk-films 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all thanks for leaving such an elaborate comment, I really appretiate it!!!
      I do have to speak on Max' behalf though -- the point he wanted to make is not to damn new technologies at all, but their over-using when you're a drummer. It certainly distorts your original playing when everything is quantized to the max. Again, he is not against using it to make some corrections here and there.
      But let's say it a bit more hippy-style: music is what's not in the sheet-music, it's what happens between the MIDI notes. Computer drums don't breathe -- they're either I or O, even with a humanizer. If you're a guitarplayer then go & use 'em, nothin' wrong with that. But if you're a drummer then learn to be proud of what you did or learn more. Otherwise you shouldn't have gone to a studio in the first place but to your rehearsal room to practice.
      It's the same with CGI -- it's great when you use it with care and combine it with analogue techniques. But just Episode I? Boooooring :-)

    • @jaybat1184
      @jaybat1184 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you liked it, I had a lot of fun writing it. You make compelling points. Where I stand though, and always will, is: its ok to do whatever it takes in the studio to get the sound you want just as long as you're able to re create it live. Making your imagination come to life is amazing no matter the means. In the end, its all just personal preference and the first person you should try to impress is yourself. if you can do that, other peoples words mean about as much as a bark from a dog. anyway, i'll think more on this(ha! I said "moron") as we all should, and in the mean time, keeping it brutal on all fronts.
