Now this is what the community should be. Not all the pocket jewelry. This will work and work hard. Solid work Zac.
Thanks much! Carry what you need, need what you carry🤘
Yep! 👍🏻👍🏻
totally agree. I hate the edc community filled with the over priced knick kacks.
@@jackbachman1385 it’s a completely different culture then it was even a few years ago. It’s crazy to see. I’m just the dude with the useful stuff and maybe hard candy. I can’t afford a $300 rock made of some random material!
I for myself also love practicality and reason more than bling bling to show off. 😁
this is slowly becoming my fav knife/gear channel, props to u for producing quality content ⚔️⚔️⚔️
Thanks so much!💪
This video is an excellent example of why I still watch this channel after giving up on every other edc channel. Zac's head is not in some weird, gotta-be-too-cool cloud. It's down on the ground with the rest of us. And, as long as I'm here, I have to say I have both the mini praxis and the tinker and they are a great pairing.
Thanks so much for the kind words! We try to keep things grounded and really only show what we’d actually or do actually use.🙏👊
@@zacinthewild No problem. Thank you doing what you do.
This might be the best budget edc video ever. Super helpful and realistic!!
The budget end of edc is so important because that's where most people are. Don't get me wrong I love my American made $250 and up knives but that's just not where most people start or where most people want to spend their money. Good budget items bring more people into the hobby of edc and keep more people around. Great video
Agreed and thank you!
Well said.
@@elijahthompson3899 thanks!
@@zacinthewild nah man. Thank you for the content. Keep doing what you're doing!
I think the USA can also make great knives for reasonable prices with still great materials.
Looking my beloved CRKT M16-03BS special edition RIP Kit Carson one in 12C27 and titanium nitride coating on the steel handle frame lock. It just holds up and is fixed so easily.
The thing about being more budget conscious is that you're not going to be afraid to ACTUALLY USE them because most people don't want to scratch-up or risk breaking their Gucci EDC tools. Plus these things get lost or stolen all the time then you're more pissed than if it was a budget one. It's like owning a $3,500 custom 1911, you'll never take it out for everyday carry because it's too nice to scratch-up, and you end up carrying your more affordable one anyways.
I loved this man. Great job!! I have always loved budget gear, I have a few more expensive pieces but I love finding those stellar budget deals like that.
Super helpful! Great video and presentation, thanks.
I loved how the ohto pen looked and immediately purchased one. I like having two ink colors, but hate needing to carry two pens in my notebook. Thanks for showcasing that!
Thanks for the great affordable Christmas gift ideas as well. It's aptly timed (plenty of time for shipping) and several fit the budget we've set for our gaming group. Thank you!
Nice! Great video with no nonsense pocket dump. Love budget EDC.
Always good, helpful and full of character - this particular video is masterful in execution, pace, variety of view angles, zoom, settings. Alone or with a team, I don't know, but this impressed me. Don't get me wrong - I love other styles, too. I appreciate the simplicity of a talking review with afixed lens over hands on a multitool - also valuable. Many others, too. But, yeah, extra credit for a huge production value today. Thanks.
Means a lot! Thanks for tuning in👊
Great video. I love the reviews of the new stuff too. But that stuff can really add up. Thanks for putting out some beginner content. It really helps! Keep up the good work!
More like this! Simple, thought through, practical edc videos
Yay Zac 😊 The knafs hat should be on the list! Gotta protect the dome! Thanks for introducing things I never would have found on my own, as usual lol GREAT JOB BRO
Thank you for tuning in! The Knafs hat rocks!😁
I got the 1505 a year ago or whenever you did that video and absolutely love it. I use it every single day.
I really like these videos or yours. These are items that are easy to find in many places.
Zac i absolutely love all your videos, and am an avid consumer of knife and edc related content, but I loved your early videos about your wanderlust and adventures and shop setup and all things you covered at the beginning of your channel. I personally would love to see more of that type of content. Hope you get a chance to see this!
I really appreciate that! I love doing those videos too. We’re trying to figure out a balance to better show that stuff off. Thanks so much for the kind words.
I used to have that exact same motorcycle. My dad had the 175 version. Would love to have either one of them now
Just another reason to love and trust Zac's content, a simple, practical no BS load out. $40-$70 range even less if you swap the light and pen.
I personally love the Z F-701 a great pen and not too pricey. My tinker rides in my pocket at least 3 days a week and I always have my i3t or i5t with me.
Zebra F-701 FTW 💪 That knurling is top notch.
Love it. Especially the pen recommendation. Just put an order in for one.
Recently picked up a Fastback and I use it all day at work. The 1/4" driver makes it perfect for edc
Those are some pretty solid selections, and mirror what I ended up going with for my EDC. My model choice varies a little (I use a Super Tinker, for example), but those items are a really good starting point. Cheers, Zac!
F-701 (or f-301) + 6in1 fastback + AAA flashlight = EDC perfection. You can add in a bic mini or some form of needle nose pliers (ie, gerber dime, Leatherman wingman, or even a dedicated pair of pliers) for added functionality, but will add bulk or lack decent pocket clips. Sometimes I have a folding pocket knife, keychain flashlight + Gerber dime for minimalism
Great video! You could do a series of these at different price tiers.
Good clarification on ultra budget--great use and excellent value, not the cheapest thing you can find. Cool video and thanks for sharing!
Yes, best bang for buck video always a favourite. That multi pen is awesome. As always pick whatever you actually need\will use, not what looks fancy
Been carrying the Harbor Freight pen lights everyday all year now. Both AAA and usb powered. A dab of Vaseline on the threads and o rings go a long way when they go through the wash. Regardless they’re under a 90 day warranty so when the click on off button goes out they’ll swap you out no questions asked.
They’re a bit bulky but definitely handy for the price
Great tip!
You do want to be wary of using Vaseline on rubber o-rings, for the same reason you don't use it on other rubber things - it will cause the rubber to break down, and it will fail.
On something that's super cheap that you get replaced regularly, it's not such a big deal, but you don't want to use it on anything you plan on keeping.
Get some silicone plumber’s grease. It won’t break down your O rings. About $4 at Home Depot or Lowes. But yes, lube those threads. I used the Streamlight aaa microstream for years working in the telecom industry. Hundreds of attics and crawl spaces. $19.99 and it never let me down.
Great budget selection Zac! Take care.
Thanks!
Awesome video, i used to carry a civivi elementum and olight i3t eos, recently got the fenix e12 and it is such a nice upgrade, for not too much more cost.
Mini Praxis was an instant buy when it first came out, have been carrying it proudly since then.
I haven't thought of carryin' a pair of pliers prior to this video and it jus' makes so much sense...
They are great! If you’re not on a budget the small Knipex Cobras are top notch and my daily🤘
Dude, you're a legend :D@@zacinthewild
The Milwaukee fast back knife is hands down my favorite knife!! I have multiple benchmades and spyderco knives and I still carry I 25 dollar box cutter with screwdriver
Great selection! Another good pen which I carried all through college is the Parker Jotter series which they do have in all stainless and use the "Parker style" refills including the Fisher Pen refills. I have and carry a Zebra 701 from time to time and if you remove the little plastic liner just inside the tip you can change the spring and ink refill to the same Parker/Fisher space pen refill. With the knife, I agree that the Tinker is a good option but even though the price goes up a bit (depending on sales) I would go with the Super Tinker for the added scissor layer.
All are tried and true gear that won't break the bank! I really need to check out that multipen!
For EDC pliers, check out the craft section at Michael's. Small pliers of every type.
Awesome quality content as always. Also, is this the first time we have seen your hair ?
Props for including the Civivi and Olight.
I like it. It's important to have options at different price points. I don't make a lot of money, and I can't relate to some of the super-premium EDC channels out there. Thanks guys.
Love to see somebody carrying the fastback!!! I’ve been swearing by it for a year now!
Great video I carry the 701 with the space pen refill
Zac I took your advice on carrying the fast back, I’m a private contractor running water and wastewater plants and doing all the maintenance on them electrical, plumbing etc. I bought a fast back and now I have a whole packout system in my work truck complete with the packout coffee cup. Milwaukees black hole is real and it will suck you in
Thanks for throwing that Boker and multi pen on my radar.
Both great additions!
I appreciate a good budget video every one in a while to stay grounded. There are definitely diminishing returns the more expensive the gear.
I will say, my recommendation for the best budget crossbar knife is the Scrade Divergent. It's surprisingly good for under $30. Unfortunately, I have had nothing but lemons from Boker.
Hook blades are the way to go if you're breaking down a ton of cardboard. Love that you can stash an extra blade in the 1505
Perfect pocket carry for me, CRKT Pilar, Pokelit AA flashlight and Gerber MP 600 blameless. I had that pen, but it broke within the week. In my work backpack, 6 in 1, pliers, pens/markers, notebook, 1/4 bit set.
The SAK Tinker is great. You can get it in a variety of art on the scales (example: Bacon pattern). You can get different color toothpicks & tweezers. SAK colored lanyards. And a SAK leather sheath for it. All are not expensive. I really like the Milwaukee 5 in 1, paired with a Knipex 4" plier. Zebra pens are great. I carry a larger Olight flashlight. My EDC is a bit more expensive, but I acquired it over time, not all at once. Great video.
All great choices
Thanks👍🏻
Why is this video so good?😊
It’s funny how “edc” has evolved to what it is today. Nice to see a true throwback on this . Working around on the house and just having a random pair of pliers on you just makes sense, leave the house and they are still on you, bam gotta change a fuse on the pickup and your covered
Great topic, always fun to see what value you can get for a small budget. When I started out putting my first budget EDC kit together, I wound up with: Ruike P801 knife. Keychain: Olight I3E flashlight, Victorinox Classic Alox, True Utility Key Tool, CRKT Pry Cutter Bit Tool. Fisher Space Pen with clip. BTW Zac: you forgot to mention that the Olight I3T has a clip that lets you attach it to the brim of your cap - I have it too 😎🧢🔦
Awesome Kit for sure! I do love that hat clip feature😁
Splurge on the tinker, bank pen, Harbor Freight light, Bic lighter, bandanna. Everything every day with a total under $30.
I tried the Milwaukee 1505 back when Zac first mentioned it. Man! I've been in love with that tool. I would pick it over the Victornox because I run into too many Phillips screws, and that locking driver can do work. Love the video! Gotta check that Blue Boker, it looks awesome.
Same, I use mine wayyyyy more than my actual knife. It works really well for me, because I need a work EDC that occasionally needs to cut drywall. It's possibly my favourite edc item.
Another great video
Thanks!💪
Great video on how to get a good edc on a budget. My most used edc item is my Victorinox Climber. Affordable and mega usefull.
Victorinox makes my favorite in pocket multitools! They are so dang handy💪
Im rocking the civivi Bull Mastiff and just recently picked up the gerber armbar drive this weekend and i am really happy with it. I have the alpaka zip pouch pro and can fit both in there. Im surprised i can fit the full bull mastiff in it, but it's tight.
I’m actually considering those Boker knives as gifts for co-workers.
I carried the same Zebra pen myself for 5 years, it's really nice to write with and tough as hell.
It’s such a good bang for your Buck!
Great video, have you had any experience with the Rite in the Rain pens or the Fisher Space pen?
Hey, good list, I really liked your knife and tool recs, bit I felt the flashlight segment left a lot to be desired. There's way better budget options out there! The Lumintop AA Tool 2.0 is a fantastic pick. It's like 18 bucks USD, has a USB-C rechargeable lithium 14500, but it can also take regular AA as a backup (or another 14500)! Max 650 lumens and better color rendering than the olights, which are what i was rocking before this. Definitely a solid go-to for me. The USB rechargeable battery is fantastically convenient. I think your stance on rechargeable would shift radically if you had this guy. If you can charge a phone, you can charge a light. I've bought other fancier and brighter lights but the AA Tool is the one that I always go for.
Victorinox tinker is my edc for 20+ years now. Love the KNAFS cap.
Such a good carry! I’m loving the new hat😎
Very awesome 👏 Zac. I totally agree with your choices. I’ve got to have a SAK, I own a few Zebra F-701 and I have fisher space pen inserts in them and it runs great. I absolutely love the i3 and I just bought a few of the new 2 model of the i3 and I love it. And I always have the XS or 125 Knipex on my person so I’m good. And I own several of the fast backs and there awesome 👏. So thank you and great content as always. ❤️👍
7:49 I got curious about that Risemart light so I ordered one. I was in need of a spare for one of my jackets so it was perfect timing. All I can say about it positively is that it lights up and throws a tight beam. If you need a light that has any water resistance though, you would be better off saving up for a better light. If you put even slight pressure on the lens you can push it inward. There is no seal to keep out water even though the caps have o rings after the threads! Maybe if you have some clear sealant or epoxy around and you want to fix this issue yourself it would be worth it, If not and you are going to use it in the rain or around water you might want to get something else.
Nice! I just got the Lava Olight i3T and it is amazing for the price! Also, picked up the Knipex 08 21 185 which i bet can cut through coat hangers all day long. 😊
Knipex makes some great tools!
Also for power, i always carry 2 power banks and at least 2 wall chargers plus the cables, and in case of blackout i have at home a solar power usb charger which i also take on my trips outdoor. batteries die, leak and i just like charging everything via USB, i tested it on a 4 day camping trip and worked amazing. yes its a lil bulky, its about the size of my macbook air m1, but i prefer having only that one and my phone when i go hiking since the video editing software works on both and i will probably not edit a lot of software when im camping. so in my bag the place where my laptop usually stays is replaced with a solar power charger
Zac. I respectfully submit the Bic 4 color pen for your consideration. 4 pens in the form factor of a sharpie! I get a lot of flack for mine but I wouldn't be caught without it.
This is the most practical EDC video of all time. SAK Tinker, Locking Folding knife, and a good pair of slip joint pliers\Knipex beat any Leatherman (Even the ARC, sorry fanboys). Having a good flashlight is critical as well and a nice pen is handy also.
Great Video Zac. My EDC has been somewhat Pricey to Mid-Range over the years. But, since retiring, I find I'm trying to stretch a dollar a little more than I used to. Mainly because I have more time on my hands now and do more stuff. I need to have my "Walking Around Money" and my Wife likes to take road trips to visit family. Now instead of buying the $300 knife, I'm looking more at Kershaws, Gerbers and Bokers. Instead of buying a $250 Surefire, I'm leaning more toward the Streamlight and Olight. But I'm finding that I'm just as happy and well equipped on the budget stuff as I was the Big Dollah brands. Keep the great videos coming. I look forward to them.
Agree all day with this sentiment. I definitely prefer to spend money on experiences over things👊
I always wants scissors in Victorinox .... Scissors are just so useful
this is very similar to what i carry at work for hotel maint, i made a little pocket holster for my cargo pocket that has my knipex cobras (though i may switch to twin grips), the klein impact 11 in 1, nail setter and countycomm flipbit micro screwdriver along with my pm2 and milwuakee. i do 95% of my work with those tools
btw id look into japanese slip joints, dngineer makes a good one with screw plier capabilities and its dirt cheap
I've enjoyed my smootherpro bolt action pen on Amazon. Swapped the inks
I know these aren’t fitting for extremely budget but the 6” Knipex pliers are an amazing tool to have on you
Been alive 57 years and have never seen anyone edc a pair of pliers and will probably only see it on TH-cam.
Just depends on your daily needs😁. I carry a pair of small Knipex pliers and use them a few times a week.
Well I carry a Leatherman everyday so your wrong. There are alot of people that carry pliers as a edc.
@@adamsmiths3016pliers only! Not referring to multi tool, sorry for the confusion.
It just makes me think, like, gotta run to the grocery, I better put my pliers in my pocket😂
I have a Lamy Pen that does the pencil, pen and hilighter (I replaced the hilighter with red pen). It's pretty cool but the gravity selector on that MF-20K3B-SV pen is very cool. If the Lamy wasn't a gift from my bro from another mo I'd replace it with an MF-20K3B-SV - just for that gravtiy function.
Either way combination pen and pencil is such a handy thing. A pencil will write of stuff a pen won't - and if you need to sign a paper form, they often insist on ink not pencil. Best o' both worlds.
I think I might get one of the MF-20K3B-SV for my nephew - he's in the Army Cadets (Junior ROTC???) he'd love that for navigation data sheets and navigation generally.
Nice choice.
Hope we can see a mid range version of this soon. The high end is constantly covered, you've done budget, so mid range for guys who have a bit of cash to splash, but still can't afford MangaCut and Titanium.
Still love your work - and the camera guy whose name I can never remember - Jamie??? (Sorry mate).
Thank y'all.
🥳good job✌🏼
Hi Zac & Jamie! Another cool video! You are showing different options with people on a budget! I have the Milwaukee only with the blade!
I have OLIGHT flash lights which I carry! I bought a Sencut knife for a budget option! I like tactical options! I have an OLIGHT small pen!
I don’t carry any pliers because I don’t have a need for them when I am out!
Zac this is the first video I saw you without a hat!
Didn’t you do a video on Notebooks that I saw? You deleted it?
I think you should do one! 👍
Thanks and great feedback! I did a collab with Peter McKinnon on notebooks. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/gGj4owgiG04/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GwHz2lj2GJVxVezC
Some really good budget items! The only thing i would add or recommend is a notebook. You could skmething super basic by going to the dollar store even.
Regarding the pen youll want to go for the zebra f-xmd which is an upgrade to the one you mentioned. All metal construction no plastic on the clicker portion. :)
For a flashlight, the streamlight microstream aaa is great. I got it on sale for $12 on Amazon.
I have the ultem mini praxis in my pajama pocket right now
for budget flashlight I would highly recommend: Sofirn, Wurkkos, Fenix, Nitecore, Lumintop, Streamlight, Thrunight.
I’ve got a mini praxis in my pocket right now!
Helpful as always.
I’ve kept a pair of pliers like that in the trunk of my car for decades. But for “carry,” I’d prefer to spend twice as much for the 4.5” Channellock 524 slip joint pliers weighing only 3.2 oz. What I actually carry is the 1.6 oz. 4.5” Channellock 424 tongue and groove pliers, half the weight and price of the popular Knipex pliers so many carry.
Totally agree! With no budget restriction I would take a Knipex any day of the week👊
I have the milwaukee. I would totally recommend it.
Out of these choices, I think your personal picks at the end are spot on.
Although... I have the i3t and I don't like the tailswitch. Too stuff.
I've got to give it to the Streamlight Microstream here. I've got one I've had for well over 15 years that is still going strong. It's been ran over by a truck, dropped off a boat, ran over by a lawnmower and bagged, lol. And it still works.
Looks like hell, but works.
That is a beast of a light! Love hearing use reviews like this💪
Got a Coast A5 light 5 years ago for $9 and I've been using it nearly daily with rechargeable nimh AAA batteries. Everything I need as an inspector/auditor
That is a great deal!
Yes, far to many people i know carry so many items they never use. Theres a difference between edc and survival/bugout situation that some dont understand
I carry the full size praxis, best knife I ever bought.
ok, one more thought to amend to my other two comments.
My favorite knife (of all time at this point in my life anyway) is my ESSE IZULA. It is a fixed blade knife and because I live in the great state of Michigan is illegal for me to EDC. It's funny because I have a Buck 110 that would be FAR more dangerous if it were to be used in a bad way although because the Buck 110 is a folder it is legal (3" limit on folders no longer applies). The Izula blade I'm not even sure is 3" long and is a utility shape blade. I like the Izula and do wear it up North Michigan at cabin/property and also wear it around my house on weekends. If Michigan didn't have such controversial knife laws, then it would "hands-down" be my daily dedicated blade. I love it so much mostly because my folding knives get all sort of muck in the hinge that I have to clean out and nano-oil again. My Izula comes with a nice belt sheath, and I choose not to put handles on it so that after cutting up an apple/pear I can simply rinse the whole thing under the sink. I sometimes use it to dig up weeds in the yard, and then after that abuse, quickly sharpen the heat-treated 1095 steel back to a razor edge. I can use the Izula to do just about anything...pry/scrape/cut/dig and then a few swipes on the diamond stone and sharp again. I understand the need for knife laws but is frustrating when those laws are based on some sort of ignorance that keeps the average person from being able to use such a great tool. I am aware that Michigan knife laws have eased up some in the last few years although if you carefully read the laws, you will realize that those laws contradict themselves from one paragraph to the next. I researched why that would be and discovered some saying it is that way so that enforcement can take the desired path of pardon/prosecute. I didn't mean to get into politics...sorry...just pointing out that I believe fixed blades are the cat's meow and if your state allows them the ESSE Izula is a winner for an EDC blade imho.
Well done ! Budget carry needs more attention now days. Incredibly you have a Victorinox in there which in my book is top shelf and a no compromise item. I would add a pair of folding Fiskar scissors to your kit and you are done and good to go :)
Victorinox makes my favorite in pocket multi tools!👊
@@zacinthewild To stay in theme with a few slight twists I will list an ultra budget with a couple extra items yet still close to 50 bucks. 1. Victorinox Spartan 2. Coast G 10 Flashlight 3. Uniball Jetstream 4. Mini ViseGrips 5. Fiskar Folding Scissors 6. Casio F-91W
3:55 Hell yeah! I've got the blue Elox aluminum version of the Rockstub right when it came out in Germany and I freaking love it!
And the blade came wicked sharp by the way! And it's ever so fidgety and smooth, great quality for the price.
It has skeletonized steel liners under the blue Elox by the way.
The problem with my Rockstub is the free spinning pivot screw in combination with a very strong glue. I stripped the screw when trying to adjust the action. The Boker service was great and I got new knife, but with the same problem. Finally I heated the screw with my soldering iron to soften the glue and with good drivers I was able to break it open without damaging it.
Great note! Thanks for the input.
Really been loving this thing!
I haven't noticed any free spinning pivot screw, glue, or any other weird issues like that myself, I also didn't have any other issue at all, but I'm glad it worked out great for you! @@knifeinfluenza
Pleasure! @@zacinthewild 🥰 (I love it very much as well!)
Thank you for the great video. If I may just add something for newer people, don't feel pressured to always get a dedicated knife. There is very little you will have to do daily that a dedicated knife can do that a victorinox can't. Additionally, depending on your country or workplace environment, you may find that some things are easier to motivate having compared to others. For example, my university would not allow me on campus with a dedicated knife (honey badger) but we're fine with my leatherman wingman, as they saw it as a tool.
Totally agree!
As usual a great video especially for people new to adulthood or singleness
God bless
Not sure if this is a compliment or a dig but I’ll take it as a compliment😁
@@zacinthewild
It’s the highest form of compliment considering most of us tool/knife guys have lots more expensive stuff I’m saying a person starting out or a single mom suddenly alone could really use this advice for a basic kit
I’m a big fan of your content and your style
Ive been carrying a Coast G22 AAA light a good while now and its been great make sure to add a little grease on the oring and threads to help it last longer for sure. I agree with this all but add in one of those little pocket screwdrivers the slim flathead type great for poking and cleaning out some stuck things.
Those little screwdrivers can be so handy! Never really considered them until we pocket checked mechanics. It was fun seeing how they used them all the time.
@@zacinthewild I'm a industrial maintenance technician and yeah I use them all the time for poking, cleaning a million uses.
I bought my 3 year old daughter a 5 pack of those cheap flashlights on Amazon. Theyre still kicking around seeing good use.
want to throw the "thrunite archer mini" in for the flashlight option. I have had two for the last year and a half and they are great. 17 bucks on amazon last I checked. rechargeable usb C.
I like Lamy safari/allstar for a solid edc pen.
Great video, as always. Now, What would you use to carry these items?
Got a great video on pocket organizers you might dig😁. The Hitch And Timber is my favorite! th-cam.com/video/YlFhsCuJYrs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=k5MgzYdG-gBcJTS3
