The corkscrew is for untying knots, and the parcel hook is for tying knots when your hands are numb.
But for EDC, the 1505 is probably the best.

I found the Buck 110 LT at Walmart today, priced at 25.94 and I asked to buy it. The manager said that they only had the display knife and if that would be okay, which I said yes. Then he scanned the tag that was displayed and said he had to inform me that the price of the knife had increased four dollars. I said that I would pass, just on principle. So it’s still cheap, but now it’s up to $30 if anyone was curious.

Buck 110 Slim Select is an impulse purchase knife that I have grabbed in the past and thoroughly enjoyed. It finds its way into my pocket more often than one would think and is the perfect medium duty knife to use in situations where you don't want to risk damage to a PM2 or an Osborne.

For opening clam packs, I feel pretty safe using a utility blade. I recently got a Gil-Tek RUK-S in brass; it's a little utility blade holder that is simple to use and compact enough to disappear in the fifth pocket. It's my new go-to for light utility tasks. (It's also machined in the USA, as an extra bonus!)

If there's one thing to buy in this video it's the Milwaukee Fastback 1505. Got one yesterday and it's one of the best designed / engineered / manufactured tools I've acquired in a long time. I think I like it more than the Leatherman Wave+ I picked up too, but they're both great tools, suited for different applications.
If the 1505 ever goes on sale for $10 again I'll buy a dozen to replace the rest of my utility knives and give some as gifts.

I took a chance on the 1505 early last year as I wanted something other than my leatherman for EDC…. I have been more than happy with it and the quality is really high for the price. Plus if it goes missing I’m annoyed but not angry, if it’s my leatherman wave then I would be pretty pissed with myself or with whomever took it. If I’m on a remote job I’ll go 1505, knipex Pliers Wrench 5”, and my space pen.

RE: a S.A.K. with 2 blades. They are awesome if you do any kind of carving or whittling. Big blade for large cuts, small blade for more intricate. More of an specialized survivalist, prepper or even artist feature. Thus, there ain't nothing wrong with a 2 blade Swiss Army Knife!

I have the Buck 112 LT, still on sale at the Boy Scout shop. It's great, and a regular carry for me. I mostly use the package opener tool on my Gerber Dime to get into those wretched clamshell packages. Amazon was right to do all they could to eliminate those years ago. I was sort of hoping to see a Schrade or Old Timer creep in there. I know they are low end, but I'm still nostalgic for them. My new heritage Old Timer lockback has been excellent.

Best buy of the video has got to be my first ever knife and the go-to knife I recommend to friends and colleagues: the CRKT Squid. Solid frame lock, one hand opening/closing, good steel for the price (You can get a Squid for only $23 online!), and a deep carry pocket clip!
One thing I will say, is that REI sold the Victorinox Huntsman at full MSRP ($50), which is a shame, because the Huntsman is regarded as one of the best value SAKs you can buy due to it usually retailing for less than $36! The toolset you can get for only $36 is pretty great!

I use to work at best buy in there install bay as a car audio installer and I opened a LOT of clam packs and a small box cutter with the small size razor blades! The secret is to move the clam pack more and the knife hand less!! The blade just punches through enough and then u can just follow the cardboard around the entire outside of the clam pack and then the plastic just lifts off

Love the hook on my Victorinox. Had to say it! It's probably my most used tool (since I carry a One-Hand Sentinel as a main blade). So, my family is from a small town in the Mexican Desert where beef production is the MAIN source of income. Therefore, most of my family are cowboys. We all use Victorinox; i guess it became more of a cultural thing now. Anyways, we use it a lot to carry hay or stray to feed the animals or also we make a simple paracord or ixtle knot to carry loads of firewood (we tie as much as we can carry and hook it up).
I'm really excited about every new video, every time! You made me an EDC and knife fan. I've have learned SO mucho from you videos! Thank you!
Cheers! All the way from the freaking hot Mexican Desert!

Out of that group, I like the Buck. I appreciate videos like this, my income is not great, so a lot of EDC channels aren't that helpful. Most of our money goes to keeping a roof over our heads and not freezing and starving. I usually carry a SAK Rambler and a folding knife that I rotate depending on my mood. Despite my limited budget I have some nice knives, a few years ago I picked up a Spyderco Law Enforcement folder new in the box in a flea market tent where all the items were $1.

When owning that CRKT I was confused as to how people can reverse flick, thumb flick, and use a flipper tab. But I realized it was the knife. Clam-shell packs: If the two halves are welded together, then I use a strong pair of scissors. If not, then I attack the cardboard with my hands.
Victorinox: My Swiss Champion is old enough that it doesn't have either a parcel hook (which I'm fairly sure I'd never use for that purpose) nor the pliers (which I would rather like). Since it's my only carry, UK-legal, I agree the two blades are justified. But the little scissors are probably what I use most, even on clam-shell packs at times!

Zac, now that you just bought all these knives/tools I'd love to see an update on how they perform. As a knife nut I'm sure they're great. But not everyone is building they're own Fort Wild. You do a lot of trade style work in your home and at work. I'd love to see a video on how these accomplish tasks for you after like a month or two of use.
Besides that, I'm a bit of a sucker for the older Blade HQ content. Perhaps with that squid you bought you can make a video of you making your own scale for the squid? Idk, just an idea.

Clamshell tip: kershaw launch 10! I specifically bring one to our family’s holiday parties for that reason and it gets used at least twice. Makes it super easy. Sorry for the multiple comments on this one, I hope it helps your algorithm.

I've already spent hundreds of dollars on individiual knives at this point and find it hard to carry more budget knives, but that Milwaukee 1505 seems like an awesome tool to have on you. If I wasn't already way too deep in the rabbit hole I would be perfectly ok with just carrying one of those.

Funny that you got the Huntsmen, That's the SAK I had on me today and the only tool I used was the parcel hook, I used it to pull some rope around a flagpole slack rope holder but the the task that I use the parcel hook over all the most for, is pulling trampoline springs.

Love the trampoline spring use! First I’ve heard it.

I'd really like to see you try out the "Leatherman K4" compared to the Gerber multi-knives. I haven't really seen much on these knives. Great content Zac!

Hi Zack. I absolutely love your passion for knives and tools.. Can you please make a video on knife maintenance? I binge watched a good portion of your videos and ended up buying a beautiful folding knife. hence the request.

I got the buck 110 slim here in Nova Scotia Canada at bass pro almost 2 years ago and I still haven't sharpened it and in stead of a sheath it has a deep Carrie clip.. I have cut boxes, different sizes of cordage, feather stick, carved spoons forks and a spatula.. love buck knives

Haha, ironically in college I used my Wegner swiss knife to cut a claim pack and sliced my hand open really good. I generally use scissors now to cut the top and tear it open..

You asked how we open clamshell packaging... that is what I love my small blade on my Swiss Army knife for! Way safer than hacking at it with a big blade.

I have been using the victorinox hiker and I have used it more than my leather man. I actually really like the smaller blade on my Swiss I mainly use it for whittling, for the small details.

Walmart used to have Christmas special sets like Gerber Shard + Gerber Paraframe or saw or CRKT sets. Really low priced. Home Depot and Lowes currently still do this. Not just for knives but also tools. If you hurry now some sets are still available online in Home Depot for tools. I got a 2 pack Milwaukee utility blades for the price of one and a Klein set that includes a mini ratchet and 2 screwdrivers for the price of 2 tools. I always wait for Christmas as I like stashing tools around the house rather than facing the stairs and getting my tool box in the garage.
Great video, would you like to do this again around the Black Friday or Christmas season? Bet you’ll have a lot of fun.

The atmos is in the top 5 most carried knives in my collection. The main reasons: extremely light weight and disappears in the pocket with the deep carry clip, the design, the flipper action. Can't recommend it enough.

Clam packs.. oddly the best way to open is a gerber dime mini tool, it has a weird little angled blade for opening packages and it works like a charm on clam packs.

REI has become a neo hippie and suburbanite marketed company, thed did have at one time, a good selection of small multitools under $50. Having served in the Navy reserves, just before my unit deployed from San Diego, we all loaded up in a government van and went to REI. Maybe it was just that location having good sales numbers with those items, but every single one of us picked up a small multitool before deploying.
