It's taken me 20 years to realize these guys are masterful songwriters who write deceptively simple catchy rock and roll. This song is a perfect example of how there are all kinds of riffs, breaks, changes and vocal exchanges going on, but it still rocks like a runaway train. Learn it and the details and attention to arrangement become clear. Great stuff!!!
Watching Girl Next Door, Shazaming a catchy song brought me here. Three hours later I’m down a Sloan rabbit hole. How have I never heard of these guys? How were they not bigger? We need more rock songs like this!
They got a lot of play on Canadian radio but never really broke into the U.S. Same with The Tragically Hip, Matt Good, Big Wreck, etc. It is what it is, I guess
Ha! These guys are playing in my backyard right now, I live in Woodstock Ontario Canada and my yard borders the park, I’m watching them from my deck. They sound great live.👍🇨🇦🍻
This is my favourite Sloan song (puts on next Sloan song) - No, THIS is my favourite Sloan song (puts on next Sloan song) - No THIS is my favourite Sloan song (repeat until out of Sloan songs).
Does anyone else think Andrew has the best f'in drumming moves ever, love the drumming style but the moves are f'in epic, SLOAN MUSIC WILL LIVE FOR EVER :) cheers
Saw these guys in concer 25 years ago at a music fest. They were probably the showstopper of all the 20+ bands. They rotated between the different instruments, all these guys are well versed in all of the rock and roll equipment! One of the best Canadian bands by far!
Man, I remember when concerts were actually like this- absolute bedlam from the moment the band hit the stage. Those times will come around again. It's only a matter of time before people start sacrificing a few photos and videos in favour of the kickass, fully-engaged, physical-sensory experience that is rock 🤘
Just SO good,...no "slot" to contain this music,...flat out rocking,...every instrument/singer on it. And looking good while doing it. (great video shoot). Proud Canuck here.
Best rock band in Canada, i can't understand how when i saw them years ago, i was one of the only women from Montreal, hey my town, this is damn good, love Sloan Terri Leckner Montreal
Sloan's one of those bands that doesn't release music if it sucks, like so many other bands do when they've been around for a long time. It's better just not to release something until you're ready.
This song is on repeat. Love u boys and yeah…keep on keepin’ the true rock n’ roll spirit alive. Played shinny hockey with Chris + manager/promoter in Toronto several years back. First 😂face off and smoked him in the face (not sure if he remembers…ha.) I didn’t want to f up any upcoming tour, got head locked by Murphy/manager non-aggressively). Ha. Canadian legends boys. Much love and keep on representing. 💪🇨🇦🎸👊🍻
I'll never understand how this band functions with 2 lead singers and 4 band members who all play all 4 instruments interchangeably Edit: I mean that in a positive way: like it seems like a weird miracle, Not a criticism
スローン Suroon (Sue-loww-n). Yes, katakana (the lettering on the drum) is often used to write words of relatively recent foreign origin in Japanese, but it is also used for emphasis. Also, sometimes foreign-derived words are written in kanji or hiragana. For example, "coffee" can often be seen written as 珈琲, and "tobacco" is often written in hiragana - たばこ.
If they only had 1) trashed a few hotels, 2) had some infighting amongst each other, and 3) got arrested for possession of cocaine at an airport, they would have been international rock legends. Sadly, they are simply polite Canadians that know how to rock.
If you knew what rock 'n roll was about, you wouldn't care. Good music is good music. You don't need everyone else to like it. The music is for YOU. You don't need someone to hold your hand and agree with you.
Such an awesome band, I was so excited when I found out they were coming to my city but I was so disappointed...they were SO BAKED, they had a hard time playing, nevermind singing...I still like them though
Chris, Jay, and Patrick came out to speak with the punters and sign stuff after their show in St. Louis this summer. So nice all of them, but I can't believe how much they looked like young boys, even Patrick with the white hair and beard. Maybe rock music really keeps you young, but they all looked like teenagers, really thin and really tiny. 50 going on 15.
Greatest vocal harmonies ever.
Sloan is not an underrated band. They are just unfortunately unknown to the masses. Some how.

Welcome

In 1994 Geffen records decided they weren't "Grungie" enough and dropped them. Crime of the century.
Ha! These guys are playing in my backyard right now, I live in Woodstock Ontario Canada and my yard borders the park, I’m watching them from my deck. They sound great live.👍🇨🇦🍻
They did a great show.
They played Hamtramck Labor Day Festival for free and were fantastic!!
Great band. Terribly underrated.
They remain one of my biggest influences
Right?!?! It’s amazing that they aren’t bigger than they are. This song fricken rocks, and all their others as well lol.
Those vocal harmonies with Chris and Patrick are flawless.
These guys are so insanely underrated. The Canadian Beatles!!
Literally the comment I was here to make 👌🏻
I concur !
I could sing almost every album verbatim.
Agree 1000%
Uh ... no.
Sloan is such pure rock n roll!
This song is proof that you guys are incredibly underrated.
The harmonies, THE HARMONIES!!!!
Back when their were real bands making real music to listen to on the radio .
Where the hell was this in my life before today?!
This is my favourite Sloan song (puts on next Sloan song) - No, THIS is my favourite Sloan song (puts on next Sloan song) - No THIS is my favourite Sloan song (repeat until out of Sloan songs).
Damn right
Repeat for the hip, 54·40 playlists
This is my favorite sloan *Music Video* though. There are songs that I like better but for some reason this specific video stands out above the rest.
Agreed. Sloan makes it impossible to have a favorite song.
Awe yeah babe if it feels good do it even when you shouldn't it's a hard life living a lie
Best Canadian band ever! Wish more Canadians were Sloan ambassadors...
+Sebastien Lang Musn't forget April Wine ;)
Sebastien Lang Rush moron. How dare you?
Ever since Smeared
Big Wreck, sloan is my fave but.. big wreck (and the hip) are bigger
@@chrisprobst6963 on June 4 Sloan and Big Wreck are playing in Gravenhurst, my new home!
Canadian rock icons! ❤
Absolutely!
Ah man! Love being Canadian
Over and above the killer hooks, these guys have always had the indie rock aesthetic on LOCKDOWN.
Yea but its still one of the best .... I'm sure everyone else would like it ...
I'd love to know you better Steve. You seems to be a nice and cool person
How is this song 20 years old already?!
Always loved this band. Killer hooks.
Masterpiece.
Too few songs combine awesome music with helpful advice like this.
I just like their clean sound. Candy for the ears.
I can't take my ears off this sounds, I have been listening to this song over and over and now I'm so in love with the lyrics
Are you a musician? I'd love to know you better Doug cos you seems to be a nice and cool person
Saw them in Pittsburgh in 2011 (?). Small club, criminally sparse crowd, but they killed it. Long Live Sloane!
Does anyone else think Andrew has the best f'in drumming moves ever, love the drumming style but the moves are f'in epic, SLOAN MUSIC WILL LIVE FOR EVER :) cheers
The 'ol look to the left and roll to the right trick ;)
I think what I love the most is he rocks a smaller kit too. Just the essentials. None of the fluff. Love it.
The drum rols and the hair swing
The drum rols and the hair swing8
Chris is incredible and looks amazing on drums too!
That mic lick at 24 seconds in! Phew!
Going to see Sloan tonight at Pigeon Lake Music Festival. So looking forward to it
Sloan was the rock concert my dad every took me to. Back when this song was brand new and all over Much Music. Awesome memory!
This was just on the radio in Peterborough Ont 4:45 AM
I just fkn love this tune
How don't these songs have over a million views ? ?? They are all real rock and roll !!
Saw these guys in concer 25 years ago at a music fest. They were probably the showstopper of all the 20+ bands. They rotated between the different instruments, all these guys are well versed in all of the rock and roll equipment! One of the best Canadian bands by far!
"as these things usually do..." that line always gives me chills
I remember listening to 89X back in the day. That's how I discovered Sloan. Awesome band...Love it*
This song is cool.
Great Canadian boys 🍻😜
Still banging, I had to listen to this over and over and I fell in love with the lyrics
Id love to know you better Thomas, cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
God, this takes me back 20 years to their show at The Tralf in Buffalo. Incredible!
Still a banger in 2023!
it sounded just as good as the first time....had to listen one more time
Man, I remember when concerts were actually like this- absolute bedlam from the moment the band hit the stage. Those times will come around again. It's only a matter of time before people start sacrificing a few photos and videos in favour of the kickass, fully-engaged, physical-sensory experience that is rock 🤘
That riff is on fire!! Love the lyrics too! It's a hard life living a lie!
I can't wait to see you dudes next weekend.
Just SO good,...no "slot" to contain this music,...flat out rocking,...every instrument/singer on it. And looking good while doing it. (great video shoot). Proud Canuck here.
Its about time this song to be rediscovered 🤌
oh man I love this song so much.
Such a great song!!! I'm glad they still perform.
Kickin baby
Vocal harmonies DELUXE!
Serious rock and roll song!! Many could learn!! This is effing awesome!!
Man, what a song!
Best rock band in Canada, i can't understand how when i saw them years ago, i was one of the only women from Montreal, hey my town, this is damn good, love Sloan Terri Leckner Montreal
These guys are so great! 👍🏻
They remain one of my biggest influences
Love Sloan
I love the Captain & Tenielle melodic refrain (I think that's what it is).🤔
I always thought that's what it was too!
It's bands like these that gave us good music to listen to in the 90's. 😎👍👍
Ahhhhh so good
1960s harmonies. Beautiful.
That guitar riff makes me feel good :)
favorite band ever \m/\m/
This has to be the nerdiest-looking, hard rocking band. Yes... even more than Weezer.
I'd love to see these guys tour with April Wine...an all Halifax, all generation tour.
Two generations is not all-generation. The Sloan guys are in their mid-50s too. You'd have to add a young band.
Seen them in Summerside last month really on a different level .was so great to see
Sloan's one of those bands that doesn't release music if it sucks, like so many other bands do when they've been around for a long time. It's better just not to release something until you're ready.
A national treasure
Just saw then again tonight at Amigos in Saskatoon! Thank you Sloan, you rock!!
Should be #Leafs goal song - starting at 1:13
Will be spinning this on pancake party tomorrow! First heard this song on tv before the stones played sarstock. loved it ever since
Dat intro riff. I bet AC/DC must've been like "Damn, how did we miss that one?"
No doubt 😃
It just makes sense. God the 90s and aughts were brilliant for music.
LOVE. ❤
Awesome!
great track. excellent way to open a record

they are amazing!
fuck yeah SLOAN!!! love local music
I'll never understand how this band functions with 2 lead singers and 4 band members who all play all 4 instruments interchangeably
Edit: I mean that in a positive way: like it seems like a weird miracle, Not a criticism
Chris Probst guess it feels good so they do it?
Agreed, but I think the band presents a compelling argument that they have *4* lead singers 😬
How the f*ck have I never heard of these guys until now?!? These guys are really good.
Same! Its Crazy
Licking the Mic, badass move!
Still blows me away to see Tom Cruise play guitar so well
If anyone is curious the drum says sloan in Japanese katakana which is the characters for forgien language like hotdog, bon jour etc... SuRoN

You aren't Canadian if you don't like this song.
perfect
Much music memories so nostalgic
Killer everything!
Love these guys 🤘🇦🇺
the girl next door soundtrack really is so good love this song
great rocking sound.....
People think Money City Maniacs is their best song
But this really is
If they only had 1) trashed a few hotels, 2) had some infighting amongst each other, and 3) got arrested for possession of cocaine at an airport, they would have been international rock legends. Sadly, they are simply polite Canadians that know how to rock.

Enjoying This Covid Style
おおっつ!バスドラのスローンが日本語!
KENJIRYDER TOKYO JAPAN
Cool riff
My jam and personal philosophy growing up lol
Great band, great songwriting. I just hear the influences of KISS's first 3 records. I KNOW they like those records too but it's all great.
See you at Burl ' s Creek. These guys will blow the Rolling Stones away
Such an awesome band, I was so excited when I found out they were coming to my city but I was so disappointed...they were SO BAKED, they had a hard time playing, nevermind singing...I still like them though
2021

I like the little one
I also like the editing
2 years later, and I still like the editing and the little guy. Keep coming back.
