MichaelLeroi I've received a LOT of requests to make a video about Banjo-Kazooie, but I had never played any of the games - that is until I found a copy of the original game for a _very_ good price. So I picked it up, and decided to play it when I got back to my apartment, despite how late it was. When I pushed the cartridge into the slot and turned on my limited edition gold n64 that I got for my eleventh birthday, I heard a electrical crackle coming from the cartridge slot, so I turned off the system and pulled the game out. Now, I didn't believe in anything supernatural before now, so I thought that perhaps the pins were damaged - however, upon pulling out the game pak, I discovered that wasn't the case. Everything was in perfect condition, so what had caused it? I put the cartridge back in and turned the system back on, and I heard the crackle again - but this time, I left the game in and the n64 still on. To my surprise, the game intro showed up on the screen. I felt relieved, and as the intro began to play I noticed out of the corner of my eye that it had started raining outside. I closed the blinds and I heard thunder beyond the thin walls of my living room. I unplugged all of my electronics and such to prevent a power surge from damaging them, but I left my n64 and TV on because they were on a power strip. I sat down and noticed that the intro animation was glitching. The part where Mumbo-Jumbo fell out of the sky was looping over and over, but the theme didn't end there - a slowed-down, off-tune version of the intro song kept looping despite the animation staying within the same 6 seconds or so of footage. I also noticed something else strange - all of the characters were missing their eyes. Because of that, you could see inside of their character models, and it wasn't pretty. It was easier to notice the repeated textures and the longer I watched, the more I felt sick to my stomach. I'd never heard of this glitch before, but as I got up to go to my computer and check the internet for answers, a crack of thunder reminded me that wouldn't be possible. I was going to find answers myself, so I picked up the controller and check to see if button input would affect anything. For some weird reason even the start button didn't do anything, but I finally succeeded in getting the open menu up when I pressed the A button. As far as I could tell, everything was fine except for the copyright date which was off by one year, and the absence of any sound. I pressed start, and the screen went black for a few seconds. When the game loaded, however, I didn't find myself in the starting area as I had hoped. One of the only areas I had ever heard of, Clanker's Cavern, was waiting to greet me on the other side of the black screen, but that wasn't all. There was a very noticeable absence of the game's iconic collectibles, and the shark that was known to be there was also missing. The two main characters were still missing eyes, even in the HUD, and the music was _still_ not starting. I saw that there was a chain connected to the bottom of a hole in the water, so I swam to the bottom - to find a gruesome scene. Mumbo-Jumbo was stuck on a spike, and blood was everywhere - even the water was tinted a red color. I was panicking, so I swam back up and decided to leave the cavern altogether. Upon going through the entrance to the cave, the camera panned backwards and for a single frame the shark flashed across the screen, blood-red and grinning. I was shaking so bad at this point, I couldn't hold the controller straight - I was getting paranoid and consistently glanced around my living room to make sure I was still alone. I wanted to turn on a light, but I couldn't get up. I was frozen to the couch, and the only thing I could think to do was to finish this game. The next area loaded up unusually slowly, and thankfully so, as it was just as creepy as the last room, if not more. The screen was getting very dark and the walls of the next room were covered uncharacteristically realistic blood splatters. Messages such as "die already" and "it hurts so much" were written on the walls, and as I carefully made my way past I noticed that on the HUD, Banjo and Kazooie had blood oozing out of their eyes. Faint noises coming from the TV were slowly getting louder, and I could finally recognize the music - it was the intro theme, played backwards. The controls were getting sort of unresponsive as well, and I was starting to feel like this wasn't some dumb prank anymore. I entered the next room and the puzzle-piece transition slowly revealed Tooty, hanging from a noose in the center of the main room. Her eyes were still missing and blood was oozing out of the empty slots where her eyes should have been. The water emerging from the pipe in the room was so red it appeared to just be pure blood, and the music was getting so loud and overwhelming that I turned around to go back to the other room. _Anywhere is better than here_, I thought to myself as I frantically mashed the buttons in the hopes of making it out. _Anywhere but here... I don't want to be playing this, alone, in the dark, afraid - someone help!_ But the controller stopped working and the music finally came to a deafening climax, revealing the words "I'm coming for you" on the door to the next room, and Banjo turned around, facing the screen and I screamed at the top of my lungs, because I wasn't seeing the inside of a character model, I was seeing the characters' empty eye sockets. In a panic, I reached for my replica Master Sword on the living room table and smashed it down on my system, and the noise, the game, the rain, the fear - it all stopped. So I guess I blacked out after that, because I woke up the next morning with the Master Sword between my hands... I went to a nearby church and filled a plastic bag with holy water, sticking the cartridge in and zipping it closed before tossing it in a dumpster... I'm just glad I'll never see the thing again. So yeah, I don't think I'll ever get around to doing a video on it... Sorry, guys.

Even the cancelled Mother 3 (specifically Earthbound 64, the 64DD incarnation), arguably the single most famous cancelled game _ever_ (aside from Minecraft precursor RubyDung, but that's cheating because everyone on the internet has heard of Minecraft), is smaller than Dream! It only used the 64DD and, obviously, if ironically, had to be cancelled, mostly because the 64DD was the biggest Nintendo flop (we don't talk about Virtual Boy, which is possibly the world's first VR, truly ahead of its time by at least a decade), but also, even with HAL Laboratory's help, they couldnt get it working on the 64 due to I think lack of experience? Oddly enough, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (everybody's _favorite_ Kirby game, and that isn't sarcasm!) released on, well, the N64, in 2000, but I forgot when Earthbound 64 was cancelled.
Rare show a video footage of dream for snes & N64 and early video of banjo kazooie beta. They show it today. it's on there rare youtube channel. Video is called Rare Revealed: A Rare Look at Dream. :)
The remains of Stop n' Swop in Banjo Kazooie made players keep on playing the game for many, many years after its release. Like the search for Luigi in Super Mario 64 and the search for the Triforce in Zelda Ocarina of Time, all the hours and frustration we spent on these searches can now be looked back at today as one of the reasons for why we now consider these three games legendary and among the best video games ever made!
I really liked Banjo-Kazooie. I really need to finished it. I know BK came out first, but because I played DK64 first I get filled with nostalgia because of the graphics and fun and rage.
@@rezahydra makes me wonder whats the last two characters are gonna be, if its even better then banjo, as nintendo always seems to save the best for last.
I played both a Donkey Kong beta/demo version at Toys R Us as a child and Banjo Kazooie beta/demo version at a McDonalds lol. The nostalgia of how much I thought Banjo Kazooie sucked back then completely changed as I replayed the full version later. Good stuff revisiting this.
I remember playing that Beach Beta, I have no idea how, much less why I was playing it, but, the Fly Action was replaced by the Backflip (Z + A), and Feathers were added to the Flight in order to limit it, along with the Flight Pads, because the Devs felt like it was too good, they'd never get the Players to Walk anywhere. They did however beef up the Flight capabilities of Kazooie to counterbalance the added Cost factors, originally it took forever to get any decent amount of altitude, taking over 10 min of flight from the highest point to reach the top of the Level in the Beach, and boy was it not worth that much work, my thumb was sore from mashing A Button, and the Decent was quick with an underwhelming view. Also, that jingle "nobody knows" about, was likely to be used for the Musical Door Openings, or the Cheato Book, they were undecided, ultimately changing their minds entirely. Stop n Swap was originally to become a a Cartridge Switch, although they encountered the Hardware Hard Coded Limitations of the Console only storing the data for 1 Second, True, however, that was only Version 1 of 4! Version 2 involved using an Adapter Cartridge to plug in both Games Simultaneously. This was ultimately scraped due to needing to create and sell the product which allowed this, which ultimately would have had a single use, and would have been one of the earliest versions of DLC behind a Pay Wall included within the same Cartridge. This Data is still located within the Banjo-Tooie Files, although none know what Data it's specifically looking for when they trigger the function using Cheat Devices. The device was also going to provide an Update to Banjo Kazooie. Version 3 involved the GBA Pack which plugged into the Controller, they thought about using it to transfer Data, but found it was facing the same Limitations as Version 2 or was capable of providing the same Data using a Memory Card, thus it became Scraped. Version 4: Passwords! The classic fallback method. When they reached this point, they felt they were trying to hard to implement the System, and they didn't wish to detract from the enjoyment of new people to the series, thus they put the Feature to bed here. I have no idea how I know all of this information, as I wasn't even 14 at the time everything was happening surrounding this series of events.
@@HA-no3jh No, I managed to remember all this from reading news articles combined with a Nintendo Power Magazine Subscription at the time providing additional insight into this matter.
The Rain Dance music was redone for Mumbo's magic in Banjo-Tooie as the chants are used in it. Also the concept of Mumbo doing a Rain Dance was used as the spell for Cloud Cucko Land.
I don’t blame them for keeping the original under water Atlantis, grant did a beautiful job on that one. This whole game is the soundtrack to my childhood
5:08 to 5:39 It would probably fit more in Donkey Kong 64, but its still nice 7:25 Their is quite a likeness 17:32 used in Banjo Tooie ^^ 20:29 I dont know why, but somehow I feel this would fit in Dinosaur Planet too 21:18 the way it begins also sounds like the intro to Dream 28:09 Two words to that. DINOSAUR......PLANET Ok, getting Kirkhope to say that for your channel, what an honour
Boss1 = Mad Monster Mansion/Final Boss Elvking = King Jinjo (Banjo Tooie) Ogres = Is it just me or does it seem like a few parts are related to Witchy World? (Tooie) Also.. 27:16 anyone else noticed they spelled "swap" "swop"?
+Kevin Vazquez I'm reading this comment on the day I swapped to Linux. Security intrusions, cost, and monopoly are just a few reasons I'm switching. Windows isn't worth worship.
I fucking love Grant Kirkhope. He's one of my favorite composers of all time and he seems like a genuinely cool guy, especially when he does stuff like this and his guest appearance on the Grumps.
Probably my third favorite platformer, with mario 64 and donkey kong 64 being the first two. Coincidentally all on n64, it was just a great system for platformers
Haha, true. Pretty obvious thing for anybody that has actually played through both games. Not saying he hasn't, but if he has, that is something i think should be very hard to just "Forget" while edeting the video and hearing the soundtrack over and over. But hey, everybody makes mistakes sometimes.
Jolly Rogers Lagoon is the name of the map Btw. Had to play through B-T for the 1000th time after watching this video. One of the greatest games ever made! True Story
You failed to mention the fact that *_all_* of the unused beta songs were recycled for DK64 and BT. Ogres is also an early version of the final boss theme in BK. You also spelled giant "gaint" at some point in the video. If I was Rare, I would have made the BT cartridge with lock-on technology instead, just like the Game Shark and Sonic & Knuckles ones.
One thing that's interesting about Gobi is that there's another camel named Gobi in DK64's lava temple/dungeon area. He spits into the lava pit to turn it into water.
YES! I was just thinking that. I wonder if they were making the two games side by side. Because a lot of the objects are transferable with the two games.
Reminds me, isn't Advent used in Banjo-Tooie? It sounds similar to the mountain's over world theme. I have a slight feeling that I may have heard that exact rendition closer to the top, somewhere around Grunty's tower though.
Tom Gallagher - The Comic Book Cast My mind isn't even clouded with nostalgia as I've never played this, it just looks like a good game, so I'd buy it.
Tom Gallagher - The Comic Book Cast if it gets introduced on the Nintendo Switch I will get it I was going to get it on Wii U but it got canceled due to hardware limitations
The fact Banjo could fly from anywhere, as well as not spending feathers, in the E3 1997 video of Treasure Trove Cove, is more of a "developer only" move to me than something that was planned for the game. We can see a fly pad and a feather at 05:46, so they were already planned by the time.
By the by, the seven passwords were published in an issue of Nintendo Power some time before the release of _Banjo Tooie,_ as I recall. It was in the column called something like "classified info" where "secrets" about games were "leaked" to the subscribers.
You played as Edison who was trying to stop Captain Blackbeard’s crews from stealing a magical item called floatie which they wanted to use to make their pirate ship fly so they could conquer the lands from the skies instead of the seas.
Jeebus, I just learned about Dream, and its soundtrack, and then I saw the video that Rare themselves made about it... This is _incredibly_ intriguing.
I also have a theory of my own regarding Fungus Forest. In DK64, after you feed Scoff enough bananas to open the boss door, some dark music will play. If you listen closely, you'll notice that it's a version of Fungi Forest's theme. Based on how Clanker was a real whale in the BETA and that he likely was in Fungus Forest, I believe this theme for opening a boss door in DK64 may have been intended to be the live Clanker's Internal theme.
You'd think with virtual console stuff and emulation on modern consoles that "Stop 'n' Swop" could be revived to some extent. However, I can think of a game that did something similar: The Ratchet & Clank trilogy. Near the end of the original "Ratchet & Clank" you become a Gadgetron employee and get a discount, but said discount will not take effect for two years. Two years after the release of the original, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (basically 'the third one') came out. If you have R&C1 save data on your system, you get a 10% discount on weapons. Also, I believe if you have R&C2 data, you can get other items for free/at a discount as well. Though there is absolutely no evidence that these are related, I do find it nice that a similar concept was actually put into a game that works, it just needed external savegame storage.
Banjo-Kazooie is my favorite game for the N64 and one of my favorite games of all. I've played it so often that even after years of hiatus, I still manage 100% no-death without any problems. I've already made a 100% longplay of it :)
Dang man, I haven't watched u in a long time, your channel grew A LOT!!!! I think you only had like 2,000ish subs? Great job man, I'll start watching u again ^^
My theory for the ice key is that in Banjo kazooie 3 (aka the game that got replaced by Nuts & Bolts) anyways there would be an ice queen/king boss but the snow castle that holds the boss is lock so players must use the ice key to unlock the door and reach the boss
+The Angry Little Alchemist Yes, let us judge a game based off of a gameplay trailer that probably won't even show how much better the final product will look!
Monachus Bibe Yes, let us be pretentious and pretend like Judging a game's reveal based off a trailer specifically made to excite a crowd and specifically made to be judged by a crowd shouldn't be judged because we don't like it when people are negative towards a product. The funny thing is that you slam me for "judging it" when I called it shit, but let's be honest, if I said it looked good, you wouldn't be mad about me "judging" it.
The Angry Little Alchemist A game's reveal does not mean it's a final product. There is plenty of time for a game to improve or change entirely. Judging a game, and calling it crap or shit before it even releases, or even decent/stable gameplay is released is idiotic If you used a word other than shit, and explained why you disliked the game, I would be passive. If you actually put decent and non half assed criticism, then I wouldn't really care. But deeming an entire game "shit" and not even explaining why is just pathetic, especially since you haven't even seen final gameplay. Also, to clarify, I'm not angry, I just find it bizarre.
Woah, that seems so cool that a leftover theme from Dream (Ogres) appears to have been re-used as a remix in the Final Battle... :D Perhaps "Magic" was meant for Treble Cleffs (scrapped until Tooie)? XD
23:49 That long jiggy theme was funny to me. Like I can just imagine Banjo and Kazooie trying to keep dancing with their new Jiggy, and they finally snap like, "Dammit, Grant, will you chill out?? We've got 99 of these fuckers left to find!" *meanwhile Grant is jammin' out over his synthesizer with headphones on*
banjo-threeie and conker other bad fur day where being made for gamecube along with diddy kong racing 2, all game cancel when Microsoft bought the company, then the original members retire since they couldn't work with microsoft
***** it was purchase by Microsoft, and they where making threeie on gamecube, they added karts since it sort of migrated from their cancel kart game, also do to Microsoft buying them and started as diddy kong racing 2, changed for obvious reasons, not to mention the canceling of conker 2 was all microsoft
not really... it would have been on the gamecube. and then due to franchise being so popular there would most likely have been a party game or an appearance in another game. then a bit unlikely a banjo 4

18:35 This is also used in DK64 at the Jungle Japes minecart.
18:35, not entirely but it is similar.
It's cool that Rare took some of these unused tracks for Banjo-Tooie and DK64. Even Jet Force Gemini got some leftovers as well.
There is new footage of dream both on SNES and N64 now in a video on Rare LTDs channel
Yes but that was realised in 2015 and this was made in 2013
So Dream was STILL too big for the N64, even with the 64DD AND the Expansion Pak? Wow, that must've been a huge game.
Wondering if it would've been huge for the ps or dreamcast
Wonder if they ever think to revive it now and release it on PC or something
@@SMA2343 it’d be cool nonetheless
Im not sure if it necessarily was too big for the n64 as much as maybe compression techniques were sophisticated enough to fit it at the time
That was one of the saddest days in all of gaming history, when Microsoft bought Rare...
Stop n Swop works better on the XBLA versions as it uses Save Data on the HDD.
Grant is so eloquent. He just scrawls "beta" on the original album cover for the game xD
Fungi Forest always looked out place in DK64, it would have been more suited to BK.
i thought the same thing. even as a kid it felt off
True but I still appreciate they at least included the level in a different rare puzzle adventure game versus scrapping the idea entirely
most of the things in DK64 looks out of place imo. It's really just DK isle, Jungle Japes and the nonshaded models that I feel fit in the game.
Don't even wanna know how long this took to make...
Who else thinks Mumbo's Model in Banjo Tooie is better than the Model from Banjo Kazooie?
He looks too blocky in BK.
To me he looks Lifeless in BK
+AppleMan #me2
yup
+Dan Russo what's it to you butt boy
Boss1 was reused for minecart levels in Donkey Kong 64.
I knew I felt something familiar about that Minecart theme I heard on DK TV...
If you hear the full song it has some parts of gruntildas battle theme
Grant's a great guy. He signed both copys of my BK and BT carts when I sent them in the mail to him. Couldn't thank him enough for that!
"...and the Dream Team was impressed." *Insert a Mario & Luigi reference here*
When you get jumpscared by a shattered window

Pretty cool how Grant Kirkhope commented at the end of the video.
I swear to God, the 'Giant' beta theme's melody was used for something in another Rare game. DK64 maybe? ...Or maybe it was Banjo-Tooie?
Sounded similar to something I heard too.
like half the songs are in banjo tooie
Naw, it was viva pinata. The version in pinata was a little varied, but sounded mostly the same.
Nah man, I'm sure I've heard it in an N64 soundfont.
OOH, my bad, the one later on I have no idea. But I know the one with the looped gameplay was viva pinata.
I really liked Banjo-Kazooie. I really need to finished it.
I know BK came out first, but because I played DK64 first I get filled with nostalgia because of the graphics and fun and rage.
Alex Phillips Yes! I grew up playing Diddy Kong racing without even knowing who Donkey Kong was:p
Just Jessie really? interesting! how was DKR? I never really played it much!
Alex Phillips It was great! I never finished it though. Got real close to it though! I ended up moving and losing all my games and my 64.
Just Jessie oh no! :( I'm sorry to hear that!
I love both banjo kazooie and dk64 both are great games
those Rare songs have a nice charm to them
God man... Grand Kirkhope is such an inspiration, suddenly I want to drop everything and learn how to make music
This was recommended to me years later lol...
Who's excited for banjo in smash
@Crying Marie It’s not the most accurate video, but still a good one.
And I am still crying at the announcement.
@@rezahydra makes me wonder whats the last two characters are gonna be, if its even better then banjo, as nintendo always seems to save the best for last.
@spiderbiter456 Crash is 100% the final Char. Now I’m curious on who’s after Banjo...
@@rezahydra they got a microsoft character, so maybe a sony character (if they are willing, crash doesnt count incase you mention it.)
@spiderbiter456 Crash is owned by Activision
It's interesting that some stuff from this was implemented into dk64. Although not quite a bad thing. both are pretty enjoyable.
I have no idea how I know all of this information, as I wasn't even 14 at the time everything was happening surrounding this series of events.
so your father was a developer?
people will make anything up for internet fame

No, I managed to remember all this from reading news articles combined with a Nintendo Power Magazine Subscription at the time providing additional insight into this matter.

Truth proves stranger than fiction sometimes. I didn't make this up. Perform your research if you don't believe me.
Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie is all I played when I was younger! I get everything! All the memories!
Awesome I like those 2 games too banjo kazooie and donkey kong 64 they are really great games
The Rain Dance music was redone for Mumbo's magic in Banjo-Tooie as the chants are used in it. Also the concept of Mumbo doing a Rain Dance was used as the spell for Cloud Cucko Land.
0:35 SOMEONE HIRE THIS MAN, HE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROFESSIONAL VOICE ACTER HERE!!!!
I don’t blame them for keeping the original under water Atlantis, grant did a beautiful job on that one. This whole game is the soundtrack to my childhood
5:08 to 5:39 It would probably fit more in Donkey Kong 64, but its still nice
7:25 Their is quite a likeness
17:32 used in Banjo Tooie ^^
20:29 I dont know why, but somehow I feel this would fit in Dinosaur Planet too
21:18 the way it begins also sounds like the intro to Dream
28:09 Two words to that. DINOSAUR......PLANET
Ok, getting Kirkhope to say that for your channel, what an honour
Your mumbo impression should be hired if they make another banjo kazooie game.
Too bad Grant Kirkhope is still alive so they wouldn't need someone to do an impression.
zendell37 this guy would make a good backup if Grant Kirkhope was out on a sick-leave, tho.
zendell37 What do you mean "Too bad"?
***** It was insensitive.
prizedcoffeecup banjo 4ie
Gtant's message in the end was the best.
Boss1 = Mad Monster Mansion/Final Boss
Elvking = King Jinjo (Banjo Tooie)
Ogres = Is it just me or does it seem like a few parts are related to Witchy World? (Tooie)
Also.. 27:16 anyone else noticed they spelled "swap" "swop"?
I don't have Donkey Kong 64 sadly, but I'll go listen to it ^^
But..why?
XD
zerosecondsago Because of Stop N Swop, a leftover mechanic from Banjo-Kazooie that would have had stuff to do with Banjo-Tooie
No..I know what stop and swop is, but I was curious if they had a reason to spell it "swop" rather than swap
It just looks more childish and is more related to Stop when the third letter is O on Swap too.
Dear Microsoft,
you should've stayed away from the lovely marriage of Nintendo and Rare
All respect lost

I fucking love Grant Kirkhope. He's one of my favorite composers of all time and he seems like a genuinely cool guy, especially when he does stuff like this and his guest appearance on the Grumps.

Bravo, this actually taught me alot about Dream that I didn't know. Wasn't even aware half of these tracks existed.
Probably my third favorite platformer, with mario 64 and donkey kong 64 being the first two. Coincidentally all on n64, it was just a great system for platformers
Ironically so, seeing as many people criticize the N64 controller for being...well, y’know...

Another amazing video! Always proving to be well worth the wait, I love this stuff.
This guy should do a beta 64 episode on conker.
Yes
They did
Atlantis is used in Banjo-Tooie. Can't recall the level name. but it's the underwater one with the aliens and you become a submarine.
True Story

There are actually more songs which they used for Banjo Tooie for example the Giant song
@@IlSevenlI he said he never played Banjo

Great to know some previously undiscovered details about this famous game! And that Grant Kirkhope video at the end is so cool!
This was a great Beta breakdown, you should do Conker's Bad Fur Day next, while giving input to it's original E rated game Conker's Twelve Tales.
Wow Grant Kirkhope is a really nice guy giving everyone beta music and plans. Glad to have him to answer questions :)
Dream footage was recently released, please make a redux on this

Yup. Look it up.
Cesar Cadabra please send a link
You failed to mention the fact that *_all_* of the unused beta songs were recycled for DK64 and BT. Ogres is also an early version of the final boss theme in BK. You also spelled giant "gaint" at some point in the video.
If I was Rare, I would have made the BT cartridge with lock-on technology instead, just like the Game Shark and Sonic & Knuckles ones.
Stop n Swop did see the light of the day but years later on the Xbox 360 versions.
Ry Guy
exsept they screwed it up by making Nuts & Bolts a requirment
wariolandgoldpiramid Even then it just gave you avatar pictures right? Nothing really special.
@@wariolandgoldpiramid Nuts&Bolts isn't a requirement, Stop and Swop is just intergrated into the new game.

He did that.
Oh my God!!!!!!!!! I've never watched so much gameplay of Banjo-Kazooie at once...
This game looks amazing! I wanna play it now...
You definitely should play the game
I also wonder what other great games could've been made if MS didn't buy Rare
None, Rare started to suck way before Microsoft was involved. Remember Stairfax Temperatures?
evilkingtigral that's only bad as a starfox game. as a stand-alone game (which it originally was) it would be decent.
Banjo-Threeie, of course. Not... well, THAT game. You know which one.
TheOrangeBanjo Nuts N' Bolts? The game looks fun even though I haven't played any Banjo-Kazooie games.
***** nuts and bolts isn't really bad. I know, Crucify me.
That Kirk Hope fellow nailed the music so hard I honestly thought I recognised the beta pieces. He captured the world of Banjo Kazooie perfectly.
Maybe Rare's new Pirate game they announced at E3 will bring back what Dream was meant to be.
+mister chef well it is Microsoft, gotta push those xbone sales somehow
One thing that's interesting about Gobi is that there's another camel named Gobi in DK64's lava temple/dungeon area. He spits into the lava pit to turn it into water.
YES! I was just thinking that. I wonder if they were making the two games side by side. Because a lot of the objects are transferable with the two games.
He's supposed to be a llama.
Reminds me, isn't Advent used in Banjo-Tooie? It sounds similar to the mountain's over world theme. I have a slight feeling that I may have heard that exact rendition closer to the top, somewhere around Grunty's tower though.
who else is super excited to play Yooka Laylee? i hope it opens with the main characters all playing instruments lol
I do! day 1 buy for sure!
That'd be great
Tom Gallagher - The Comic Book Cast My mind isn't even clouded with nostalgia as I've never played this, it just looks like a good game, so I'd buy it.
Tom Gallagher - The Comic Book Cast if it gets introduced on the Nintendo Switch I will get it I was going to get it on Wii U but it got canceled due to hardware limitations
Tom Gallagher - The Comic Book Cast that'd be cool, and nostalgic
The fact Banjo could fly from anywhere, as well as not spending feathers, in the E3 1997 video of Treasure Trove Cove, is more of a "developer only" move to me than something that was planned for the game. We can see a fly pad and a feather at 05:46, so they were already planned by the time.
By the by, the seven passwords were published in an issue of Nintendo Power some time before the release of _Banjo Tooie,_ as I recall. It was in the column called something like "classified info" where "secrets" about games were "leaked" to the subscribers.
10:22 I think kazooie called bottles barrel boy because he is a shape of a barrel
OH MY GOD THE END !! THE END !! *fangirl scream*
Wait... Project: Dream was a *pirate* RPG? Does that mean you played as a character who had to form his own pirate crew, or...?
Or an RPG that got pirated????
It’s probably Sea of Thieves!
You played as Edison who was trying to stop Captain Blackbeard’s crews from stealing a magical item called floatie which they wanted to use to make their pirate ship fly so they could conquer the lands from the skies instead of the seas.

This game was a crown jewel of the N64 games! The bear and bird brought much joy to my childhood! Thanks Rare for making it so wonderful in 1998! :)
This was really interesting. Alot of research went into this ha
Huh, "Jungle 1" reminds me of Sim Town's "Song 1". Weird.
....
SIIIIMMMMTOOOOWNNNNNNNN!!!! -Brutalmoose 2012
Doesn't "advent" sound like banjo tooie's file select screen?
Plus "temple" sounds like king jingaling theme
Jeebus, I just learned about Dream, and its soundtrack, and then I saw the video that Rare themselves made about it... This is _incredibly_ intriguing.
I also have a theory of my own regarding Fungus Forest. In DK64, after you feed Scoff enough bananas to open the boss door, some dark music will play. If you listen closely, you'll notice that it's a version of Fungi Forest's theme. Based on how Clanker was a real whale in the BETA and that he likely was in Fungus Forest, I believe this theme for opening a boss door in DK64 may have been intended to be the live Clanker's Internal theme.
and another thing..."Giant" sounds unnervingly familiar
I'm pretty sure it's a familiar tune to something in viva pinata
Brett Shea no, I remembered, it was in DK64
It sounds really similair to k.lumsy in DK64!
FrostituteTridz yeah, it does, read my above comment and you'll see that I said I remembered it was in DK64, that's the room I was referring to
You'd think with virtual console stuff and emulation on modern consoles that "Stop 'n' Swop" could be revived to some extent.
+ZarosianCabbage It was revived in the XBLA versions of Kazooie and Tooie.
24:06 I think Magic is an early version of the jingle that plays when you collect all 100 notes in a world because they sound pretty similar
Banjo-kazooie and the sequel to it was truly the best games of my childhood.
I still play it to this day. :')
Banjo-Kazooie is my favorite game for the N64 and one of my favorite games of all. I've played it so often that even after years of hiatus, I still manage 100% no-death without any problems. I've already made a 100% longplay of it :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they implemented stop'n'swop in the microsoft versions of Banjo Kazooie.
Dang man, I haven't watched u in a long time, your channel grew A LOT!!!! I think you only had like 2,000ish subs? Great job man, I'll start watching u again ^^
anyone else notice some the unused themes were reused in dk64
Yeah... Boss1's beginning was part of the first Minecart ride in Jungle Japes....
I could watch the whole game with you doing all the character voices
My theory for the ice key is that in Banjo kazooie 3 (aka the game that got replaced by Nuts & Bolts) anyways there would be an ice queen/king boss but the snow castle that holds the boss is lock so players must use the ice key to unlock the door and reach the boss
I wonder if *Sea of Thieves* is *inspired by Project Dream???*
The Angry Little Alchemist Yeah but it will never be a true Project Dream:( (Cuz of da Gameplay and stuff)
Surfin Bird
Ya. Sea of Thieves looks like shit in my opinion.
+The Angry Little Alchemist Yes, let us judge a game based off of a gameplay trailer that probably won't even show how much better the final product will look!
Monachus Bibe
Yes, let us be pretentious and pretend like Judging a game's reveal based off a trailer specifically made to excite a crowd and specifically made to be judged by a crowd shouldn't be judged because we don't like it when people are negative towards a product.
Judging a game, and calling it crap or shit before it even releases, or even decent/stable gameplay is released is idiotic
If you used a word other than shit, and explained why you disliked the game, I would be passive. If you actually put decent and non half assed criticism, then I wouldn't really care. But deeming an entire game "shit" and not even explaining why is just pathetic, especially since you haven't even seen final gameplay.
Also, to clarify, I'm not angry, I just find it bizarre.
Love your channel man, keep at it.
Woah, that seems so cool that a leftover theme from Dream (Ogres) appears to have been re-used as a remix in the Final Battle... :D
Perhaps "Magic" was meant for Treble Cleffs (scrapped until Tooie)? XD
23:49 That long jiggy theme was funny to me. Like I can just imagine Banjo and Kazooie trying to keep dancing with their new Jiggy, and they finally snap like, "Dammit, Grant, will you chill out?? We've got 99 of these fuckers left to find!"
*meanwhile Grant is jammin' out over his synthesizer with headphones on*
thank you. ive never played bk before this video and its now one of my favorite games.
Freeze eazy peak's theme was really good
18:35 this sounds like something out of Wing Commander III
How would gaming be today if Micro$oft didn't purchase Rare?
Banjo-Threeie on the WiiU.
Rare would have continued to make fantastic games. It's a shame Microsoft had to buy them and ruin everything.
banjo-threeie and conker other bad fur day where being made for gamecube along with diddy kong racing 2, all game cancel when Microsoft bought the company, then the original members retire since they couldn't work with microsoft
Banjo-Threeie was being developed for the Gamecube before MS bought Rare.
not really... it would have been on the gamecube. and then due to franchise being so popular there would most likely have been a party game or an appearance in another game. then a bit unlikely a banjo 4
A lot of these themes sound like something you'd hear on runescape's older songs. There's something so tranquilizing and nostalgic about them.
The song “magic” was properly a early song that would play when you get transformed by Mumbo.
