  • The farm i am on this morning lambs twice a year so every time a new batch of lambs are born the farm looks me to come down to try and take as many hooded crows and magpies that i can to help protect the young new born lambs as crows and magpies will peak at the eyes and tongue of any weak lamb or ewe that they find.
    This is all done on farm land that i have permission to do so on with legally held air rifles and is done in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the birds.
    This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
    This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
    Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
    Rifle FX Crown .22cal 30+ft/lb
    Scope Bushnell Elite Tactical 2-16x42
    H&N 21gr .218 slugs
    Tactacam 5.0 and FTS Unit

    As always a very entertaining video, glad to see you made the distinction between rooks and crows and that rooks pose no threat to the lambs, not all shooters seem to know that.

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah i know what you mean as some people seem to think if its got black feathers its a crow so shoot it, though if i was sitting over a field of barley the rooks wouldn't have got off so lightly.

    Perhaps some softer slugs will give a bit more stopping power, more expansion on contact?

      I have tried a few different ones but the H&N .218 21grain have been the most accurate and fastest out of my mk1 crown so far but 900fps seems to be the fastest i can push them unless i get a longer barrel or upgrade to a mk2 crown.

      Thanks for the idea, I have tried in the past to do a lamping video but i have always struggled with getting good video footage as the cameras find it hard to get enough light from the lamp for a decent image and if i use too much light it spooks the rabbits.

      Thanks i haven't tried them yet, my mk1 crown seems to really like the H&N .218 21grains but it can only push them at 900fps unless i fit a longer barrel which probably doesn't help them to expand but if the Zan slugs are softer they would be worth trying.

    Great shooting again, excellent videos. How does the Slugs group on paper at 50yrds? Would you ever consider .25cal.
    I'm thinking of upgrading my dreamline .22 to the Crown Mk2 but not sure on .22 or .25. I was thinking maybe .22 with the 600mm barrel might be a nice setup especially with the power the mk2 can produce

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah i have been thinking of upgrading to a mk2 crown as well which should be more able to push slugs at higher speeds especially with the longer 600mm barrel though my mk1 crown with the 500mm barrel will group the H&N .218 21grains inside an inch at 100 yards. I don't know how the .25 compares to the .22 for accuracy but those big .25 pellets will certainly have a lot more knock down power that's for sure.

    • @fiestamans
      @fiestamans 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HuntersVermin thanks for replying, that's excellent grouping to be fair 1" @100 Is savage. Sometimes I wounder is all this power nessessery. I'm loving the look and feel of the crown compact 380mm synthetic, so light and manoverable. Guys on forums maintain the 380 barrel is accurate out to 80yrds, sure if it was accurate to 60yrds what more would you want from an airgun. I think the slug thing has lads heads drove mad, blowing air and wasting lead looking for a slug as accurate as a pellet, I just don't think they are out there, big marketing con. Very hard to find 100% proof of slug groups.
      Anyways I'l contemplate the 380 vs 600mm and try make my mind up. It's gona be one or the other as I'm ready to purchase

    • @fiestamans
      @fiestamans 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HuntersVermin on the other end of the scale, did you or would you consider the 380mm and keep it compact for the shooting your doing. 50yrds is mostly your target so as I do say myself, do we really need these long barrels on modern airguns to be used up to 70yrds. I think we do be codding ourselves alot. The crown with a 380mm is an absolute beaut, but I wounder would accuracy be effected. Reading the forums they state it's not, only difference is running reg a little higher to get the speed required. Interested to hear your reply
