Air Rifle Hunting, Shooting Hooded Crows With An Old Friend

- I am hopping to decoy hooded crows into range of my FAC air rifle to try and control their numbers as the farm i have permission to shoot over has had sheep injured in the past by crows so i'd like to reduce their numbers as much as i can now before the sheep are let back out into the fields with their lambs later.
This is all done on farm land that i have permission to do so on with legally held air rifles and is done in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the animals.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Gull (Greater Black-backed), Gull (Herring), Gull (Lesser Black-backed), Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
Rifle Theoben MFR .22cal 30+ft/lb
Scope Meopta 4-16x44
Pellets Bisley Magnum
Bushnell Scout 1000 Rangefinder

Don't worry mate about what others want in your videos... I/we appreciate all the hard work that I know goes into these videos...I have been trying to get a few Farm Pest Management (my company) videos of my own out, and it is really hard to do! I have (like so many others) respected over all these years, all that you have done for the airgun sport, and I have learned so much from you!

Getting out more might be a bit problematic these days but yes there are some people who prefer the shorter videos with more shooting and less banter.

Ahh everyone's welcome to their own opinion i guess but your right its my channel and i like showing it as best i can the way it happens and not just showing clips of things getting shot with no story behind it.
Always enjoy your videos, I like the longer ones. It was a decent bag considering your had those buzzards trying to steal your bait.

Maybe but saying that sometimes i think the buzzards coming down and feeding give the crows confidence that there's no one like me hiding near by.

Never understood why you got rid of the Theoben. It was a great rifle. Enjoyed that David. Look forward to the next one. :-)
I do miss that sweet bolt action but the FX has a much nicer trigger and the stock is so much better.
Excellent video with integrity & honesty... this is how it goes..... no pretences about perfect results every shot. The job is to be done & it rarely goes perfectly but needs sustained effort.

No not on this video but i have used small cameras mounted on the scope in the past like the ATN Shot Trak and the Runcam Scopecam.

I like the longer videos. I can't get out, so it's nice to see someone else doing it. It's relaxing to watch, and lets me think about when I'll get back out. So seeing your day out is great. Some people just seem to like to see killing.

How does ammunition limits work with FAC air rifles? What is the maximum you can get? Thanks!
I just had a look at my FAC and I don't know about anywhere else but here in N'Ireland I don't think there is a limit to how many pellets you can buy as pellets are no longer written onto your FAC but you do need to show your FAC when buying pellets to prove you have an air rifle on your FAC, but you'd be best to cheek that out with your RFD Registered Firearms Dealer before making any mad purchases.

is your scope camo enough maybe angle of the sun alerts the target of reflection have hunted ducks and geese out here in california had to keep rechecking my blinde for mistakes. very good video

Good to hear Tadpole, it looks like N'Ireland will be on lockdown till 12 Apr but we are allowed out for essential vermin control which i was last week, video coming soon.

Yeah sort of i just don't like turning up at someones farm yard unless they have phoned me looking for help with a problem these days and anyone that has done its usually a problem with hooded crows as last while.

Good job reducing the crow numbers. They all took some time to die and hopped around and ran etc, were you using .22 round head pellets.I found even with a .25 Crown doing 50ft lbs Magpies will fly off sometimes up to 100 yards with a 50 yard chest shot . They did not fly off after a hit with a Hades though.
I was using a .22cal Bisley Magnum pellet 21gr which hit hard but these hooded crows can be a very tough bird at times.

Great video we all miss I prefer head shots but it's not all way possible great shooting untill the next video
Years ago i used to take nothing but head shots even with the FAC rifles but i missed so many opportunity's waiting for a good head shot people started to complain in the comments plus i'm supposed to be controlling the vermin which means numbers on the ground so i started to take more heart shots and the bags got bigger but you do get the odd runner unfortunately.

i would always take 2 mags with you so if u run out of one just pop the other mag in before your quarry takes off
That's a good idea but those 12 shot mags for the Theoben Rapids where about £50 so i only ever bought the one as the rifle didn't come with any.
I think you need more range time mate as your a shocking shot

Do you get wet knees david like me getting in and out of that pop up hide, iam in my 50s now and let's just say ,iam non to nimble as I once was, good job I dont video it.
I'm not too far behind you at 48 but yes if i'm not careful at how i get into the hide i can get my knees wet which isn't nice sitting with cold wet knees but you can lift the hide opening up and down to make it bigger and there for get in without putting your knees on the ground but if i do that i'll knock my camera stupid so that's why i crawl out the bottom.
I would have more than one mag so u don't miss out
Looks like mother nature sent the buzzards in to deal with the Farmer's crow problem! All the farmer needs to do is put a few giblets out each day... job done!
Putting giblets out every day may only attract more crows, magpies and foxes in for a free meal.

Your buzzards look like our hawks here in the states. Our buzzards are much much uglier and a lot larger in size.
It is a hawk but the terminology is different between the US and UK. Buzzard in UK = hawk (buteo). Buzzard in US = vulture. :)
