Air Rifle Hunting Rabbit And Feral Pigeon Control With The Air Rifle

- I was asked by a farmer friend to help with a problem he has with magpies and jackdaws coming into the cattle sheds and scrounging not only through the silage but also the feed bins for meal that's given to the cattle. This can cause not only a health and safety issue for the livestock but also those who work in the sheds as the birds dung over everything, the silage, water troughs, bars, gates, walls and even the cattle.
This is all done on farm land that i have permission to do so on with legally held air rifles and is done in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the birds.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook.
Here in Northern Ireland rabbits are on our general licence as they are considered an agricultural pest and can be controlled all year round, this was done here with the use of a legally held air rifle on land that i have permission to do so on in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the animal.

Thanks, I prefer sitting on a bean with my back to the hedge as lying in one spot for too long can get uncomfortable but that wasn't an option here.

Yeah i used to have two great rabbit permissions years ago one of which i didn't shoot for a few years but when i went back there was next to no rabbits on it anymore for some reason.
this used to be my favorite rabbit hunting air rifle channel - now its all birds ...

Hi David, a great watch as always. You’ve that crown dialled in perfectly. I’ve probably had a brain fart but were you checking your phone for the scope dope card when at the rabbits? If you were, I’d have the dope card saved as my screen saver so I wouldn’t have to unlock the phone each time to see it, just touch the screen and it’s there for you. Might save you a little bit of time and reduce any movement. Just an idea that might help you or someone else in the future. Looking forward to the next post. Keep up the good work mate.

Exactly the same gun 500 mm I have , but mine runs @950 fps with the same slugs . Added huma transfer port , heavy hammer weight

Great video as usual well done can I ask how do you find the tactacam ?
I like it as everything comes with it, there's 7 shims and i can usually find one or a combination of two to fit any scope i have and its not that big so doesn't really get in the way and since the cameras round you can fit it in almost any position on the scope and still get it lined up. The only problem i had was i rung one of the screws on the mount since i am constantly taking it on and off different rifles but i just rethreaded it with longer m5 screws and its going strong again.
The feral pigeons are related to the rock doves, is there a possibility they are rock doves. The 4 on the right are very similar, I know there are rock doves at Bloody Bridge

Good vídeo. What is the adjust did in the gun ?
If you mean the rabbit part of the video i was adjusting the rifles zero to match the distance to the rabbit so i could aim dead on.
How do you get your info to input into the scope?
Ah i do it manually, i put the range into the Strelok Pro app on my phone which then tells me how many clicks i need for that range which i then apply to the scope by turning the elevation turret up the required clicks.
every one counts if its dead it cant create more..

If you could only shoot rabbits with sub 12 what calibre would you choose and why?
Sub 12 i think that the .177 would be the best chose for head shooting rabbits as it has a flatter trajectory but i think i'd prefer the .22cal for birds with heart shots as it has a bit more knock down power.

I bought a .22 daystate wolverine r about a year and a half ago and most people say I should have bought .177, hindsight. Maybe I should have asked about before jumping in. Oh well….

I don't really know all i can say is they shoot very accurately out of the crown at around 906fps and work well on rabbits.
