  • Out decoying on the stubble fields again trying to help protect a nearby field of standing crop as well as hopefully reducing the number of corvids and wood pigeons to help limit the damage done when this field is ploughed in and reseeded in a few weeks.
    This is all done on farm land that i have permission to do so on with legally held air rifles and is done in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the birds.
    This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
    This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
    Crow, Gull (Greater Black-backed), Gull (Herring), Gull (Lesser Black-backed), Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
    Rifle BSA Super10 John Bowkett Blueprinted .22cal 15ft/lb
    Scope Nikko Stirling Targetmaster 4-16x44 LRX
    Pellets JSB Diabolo Exact 15.9 Grain
    Tactacam 5.0 and FTS unit

    Great footage. I actually started hunting Crows and magpies this way myself. Used too take the shotgun but its rather noisy and if your fieldcraft is good it´s not that hard to get birds to land. And since Lead shotshells are not allowed in Denmark a .22 air rifle offer a bit more range with lead pellets.

    Thanks for another great video, and all the tips and info.
    Anatomically, the shots you're taking are transecting he spinal cord, Complete and immediate paralysis from the neck down.
    The fanning out of the bird's tail is an indication that there are no signals coming down to it from the brain.
    Just one small gripe. Your audio is a little harsh and distorted, possibly because you're speaking too close to the microphone.

      @HuntersVermin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I'm a complete convert to it as there is far less flapping about than with the head shot though i have yet to try it out on the hooded crows.

    Thanks, great video, o nobody is decoying expert sometimes they just wont come in, always best when you shoot one or two bring in the plastic ones, cut some small spikes now this is the gorey part push on up the backside and in to the skull, they can then be mounted in any position, wind is very important, even if there is very little, face decoys in to wind, no 1 reason for not landing in my book, they watch for movement in a decoy pattern, but do committe on site, but as you no some dont hang around, just a few pointers, but i think you do a fantastic job, thumbs up from Manchester uk,

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much for the tips, i think one of the biggest problems i have faced decoying over the years is some of the ground i have shot over had that many other shooters on it the birds became almost impossible to decoy to the ground with plastic or dead birds, thankfully i was about the only one to shoot this field which was great.

    • @stuartbibby4415
      @stuartbibby4415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HuntersVermin yes i no the feeling its very difficult after they are constantly be shot at over decoys, but its the people who dont have a clue about decoying who shoot at them with shotguns way out of range, its called borking them in england, this is what i do usually after a few weeks i put in a flapper on a timer, as now they look for movement because they learn static decoys means thunderstick, give it a go, hope this helps,

    What's your favourite scope for air rifle?

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think i really have one but i usually look for something with a lower end mag a 4-16 is more than enough for my needs, i prefer a second focal plane scope with side focus down to at least 10 yards and a 30mm tube, i do like a Christmas tree type reticle but not the really fine ones as they get too hard to find in low light like in a dark shed or with night vision.

    Try slugs for longer distances if your rifle will accept them. They have a much lower ballistics coefficient than pellets and travel much flatter trajectory.

      I've never done it but sometimes when pigeons are coming into land and almost hover over a spot on the wing i have thought about taking the shot but it might be more luck than skill at getting a clean kill.
