Edward Elgar - Nimrod from Enigma Variations op.36 | WDR Funkhausorchester

The WDR Funkhausorchester played Edward Elgar - Nimrod from Enigma Variations op. 36 as part of the WDR 3 lunch concert on 08.02.2019 at the Funkhaus Wallrafplatz Cologne. Helmuth Froschauer, honorary conductor of the WDR Funkhausorchester, stood at the podium for this work. Froschauer died in August 2019.

Leider in der Tradition von Karajan gespielt und damit viel zu langsam. Das Orchester ist nur wenig präsent.
Wer das Stück einmal von den Londoner Philharmoniker gehört hat kann sich denken was ich meine.

Karajan famous for conducting Elgar???? This Nimrod, even if it were in the proper context of the Variations, is definitely not slow, and some might think better for it. But very nice performance.
