    The Acura Integra in the past few weeks has come a LONG way. We have enhanced suspension, control arms, fixed the body damage, gave it a brand new set of wheels and tires, and a paint job. Now it's time to make this car much more agressive and safer at the same time using Wilwood's big brake kit for Acuras and Hondas! This big brake kit is surprisingly simple to install and operate, and my buddy James Wood does an amazing job explaining and installing for us. The Wilwood Kit makes changing pads the easiest thing on planet earth, and adds so much stopping power it's unreal. Thanks for watching!

      How much was it? Were the rotors part of the kit or separate?

    Big brakes won't do much for stopping distance. They help with heat management/cooling. Stopping distance is mostly associated with the weight of the car and the stickiness of the tires. A solid brake pad that gets a good bite on the rotor would also play into total stopping distance, but the general idea is that most modern brake systems have enough clamping force to lock the tires almost instantly, which engages the ABS, and it is momentum (mass x velocity) and stickiness of the tires (friction) that actually determines stopping distance.
    For being able to stop fast repeatedly (ie, manage heat) larger brakes are needed with a brake pad compound that can handle the temperatures like a semi-metallic pad. If someone wasn't going to add larger brakes then the pad would heat too much and the compound would soften/melt to the point that brake fade or failure would occur.
    Stainless lines help to avoid flex in the system when applying the brakes, so input matches output, or pedal feel is better or more direct.
    Fluid upgrades will also improve feel and are heat tolerant, so the fluid won't boil.

    Did this same brake upgrade on my second gen trans am front and rear. For the size of my car i really didnt see any increase in stopping power. Their 4 piston calipers are tiny but they are the only calipers that would fit under my wheels.
    U also have to make sure when doing this upgrade that the master cylinder piston ratio to caliper piston ratio is ok or you wont have much pedal feel(no matter how much you bleed it).

    • @brenthinton6855
      @brenthinton6855 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably don't notice much because swapping brakes doesn't change stopping distance. Tires do though. Upgrading brakes is really for the sole purpose of reducing brake fade under extreme conditions. Tires make a huge difference because they are the only thing making contact with the road.

    Alcon, AP or Brembo are the top dogs IMO, though.

      PAKTRA_PRODUCTIONS WATCH_DOGS They all make reasonable kits, like K-Sport, too. But Alcon and AP are at the top of their game. Brakes are a weak point on a lot of JDM cars, especially Evos. Always amazes me when people are running 5-800hp and still using the stock setup. You can easily warp a set of stock discs. Even a set of decent two piece discs up front is a great upgrade for the stock Brembos.

  • @Rockit181
    @Rockit181 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey dude, thanks for the informational video. I hope you also plan on upgrading the rear brakes soon too. As it currently sits, the is bias extremely heavy towards the front. Without appropriately upgrading the rears, your stopping distances will be worse than stock. You want to maximize braking ability from all of the traction that you have, including the rear tires, regardless of drivetrain layout. I would call up Wilwood and ask what they recommend for the rears to give a good bias front to rear (I believe factory DC2 ITR was 60/40, which is what I have on my time attack EM1 and works very well).

  • @MattGreenland
    @MattGreenland 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Ummm, normally 4 pot calipers have a bleed nipple on both the inside and the outside. Bleeding just one is not doing the whole caliper. Not even going to start on the cross drilled rotors.

    When autocrossing the big thing is how will you brake fluid hold up. The brake heating up constantly but not able to cool down quick enough between braking will cause fluid boil and brake fade to occur. It's best to have a fluid up to 600 or more boiling point when doing autocross. However race brake fluid doesn't work well in street driving due to heat range transfer at low speeds.

    That's the only nice thing about owning a Honda everyone and there grandmother's sell everything for them. For me on the other hand have to go out and find what parts from other cars fit and work for that I want. I was looking to upgrade my brakes also and to do that I have to get Discs front an mx3 and mod them a bit to fit the hub, and corolla calipers, and a brake master cylinder from a camry. Then again I really like that about it.

    Not sure why stainless steel brake lines wouldn't have been upgraded then. 4pot calipers won't mean anything with the fluid gets hot and the rubber brake line expands due to heat.
    A great budget alternative is reman'd ITR calipers from Rock Auto, there is a DIY guide on Team Integra and I think ProPartsUSA sells a kit for it. Probably cheaper than the Wilwoods, even though those are a budget bbk.

    @ThatDudeinBlue The brakes should be bled from the inside then outside of the caliper to get all the air out of the system, and a few light taps on the inside and outside of the caliper with a rubber mallet to dislodge any bubbles caught around the pistons (assuming these are like most 4 pot calipers), and while they are definitely an upgrade I cant say ive personally been impressed by wilwood systems in the past. Dealt with everything from leaky bleeders to calipers actually physically flexing noticeably when the brake pedal was pressed. And this is a nitpick (and not as important if the primary use is on track) but I prefer kits that retain a dust boot around the outside edge of the pistons for cars that will be driven on dusty/snowy/or otherwise harsher environments as I dont want to risk small particles making their way to the seal and potentially causing leaks down the line.

  • @JK-tu1xx
    @JK-tu1xx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah braking is probably the most important part of any car, it's actually most of the reason behind why I bought my V70R. Coming with 4 piston Brembo calipers front and rear gives me great confidence to drive quickly without putting myself or others at risk. I know I can come to a complete stop in my car faster from 60mph than most hypercars can get to 60 mph, overkill is always the best bet.

    Awesome video but just a little clarification on VPN's. They're provide privacy but not anonymity. In order to be totally anonymous you need a specific network within the Internet. Basically look at it this way. If you're on the road constantly, use a VPN when accessing private information i.e. Banking etc. Also, utilize dual layer authentication as well. Ad blockers are a good idea as well due to the abundance of C&C requests that come from ads.
    Also, don't cheap out with brakes. They're very essential!

    Hey would you be able to please provide us with the model # you installed. I want to install a BBK on my honda civic EX model and wanted to know if my existing wheel with a 45 offset will clear the caliper.

    Hi David! Love your videos. I am considering buying an integra and I was just wondering if you had to talk the price of your car down? I notice some integras on craigslist charge like 6k for good condition and low miles. Thank you very much. Keep up the awesome videos!

    I wonder how much more stopping power this kit gives you without upgrading the brake master cilinder and brake booster? Also did you notice a longer pedal travel with the bigger wilwood pistons?

    Black Drilled and slotted rotors, why? You should have just used stock rotors with the willwoods calipers and stainless steal lines. Also if you are serious about auto x get some good fluid Castrol SRF is the best in my opinion. Those pads aren’t going to cut it for auto x either.

    Looks like you might have put the rotors on the wrong sides, they are directional.

    Hey David, I love your videos, and I love when you show how mechanical work is done. But it kills me that you don't at least hold a flashlight to light up what we are supposed to be looking at. It would make a big difference to me and I think your viewers. :)

    Does steel braided lines make any difference? My old car came with it ( previous owner) but I've never found the difference between a stock and a replaced system.

    I installed these on my car (Dc5) and I feel like they get REALLY hot. Do you experience the same thing? Like compared to stocks have you noticed anything funny with yours?
