Which commanders do you think are the most interesting Commanders in the set? Are you planning on building any of the Commanders we talked about today? What are the hot pieces of tech that we missed?

i built a shelob deck, i love it when there is a commander that gives so many options, cuz u could do spiders and fight or lure spells or put some artefact synergies in or go with some of the hobbit food payofs.

So glad Rachel was hired for this channel! She brings humor and creative thinking to commander that I really see reflected in some of the unique content that’s been released lately! It’s the same fun creativity balanced with intelligence and insight that I see when she plays and in her deck building.

Appreciate these additional episodes that highlight uniqueness as opposed to power! Commander is about expression and I love building decks that get talked about after the game too, so this is right up my alley. Thanks for the variety, Command Zone!

    • @TB317

Agreed. Especially because of all the formats, commander actually cares the least about inherent power. You have 3 other players and you're likely to get jumped if you're the standout most powerful, anyway. Power is just one element alongside things like consistency, and ingenuity in service of the true goal - FUN.

Cirdan is one of the awoken elves, he has no parents, he is older than the sun. He and his kin were led to the undying lands beyond the sea by one of the Valar, the gods of this world. But when he saw the Sea, he did want to go any further. He is so old, he is a bearded elf, and he likes to build the ships that can take people to the undying lands.
He was one of the three elven Ringbearer, but when Gandalf arrived in Cirdans Harbor, send from the Valar, Cirdan gave his Ring to the Wizard, who came to aid people in the change Middelearth to the better. He knew, in the moment, that Gandalf was a Maiar, a lesser God, you could make more use of the Ring, while traveling, because Cirdan would never leave the Grey Havens, only on the last boat.

Glad Éomer is getting a spotlight. He is a really solid human tribal commander and deserves more attention. One thing I didn’t see mentioned is his synergy with Gilraen, Dúnedain Protector. She can flicker him to give him lifelink, allowing you to gain a ton of life and reclaim the monarch. Really solid include.

I really enjoy my Aragorn, king of Gondor deck, which I built with the theme of "combat tactics". It's got a superfriends bent to it, quite a few monarch spells, combat restrictions like crawlspace/ silent arbiter, and a few goad effects. I love how many decisions my opponents have to make around combat when they have all these different incentives to attack, but have to decide on targets, and more decisions means more opportunities for mistakes! Games with this deck have been more fun for everyone, and it always feels like each combat is a battle won or lost with real consequences and rewards.

Robe of stars is the Voltron ultimate protection card. A creature phasing out takes all attached permanents with it, for two mana you can protect your Voltron from pretty much anything if you have enough mana. It takes something like a krosan grip or so much removal on the stack you run out of mana to phase with to bring down a robe of stars Voltron.

Rachel is right about the pronunciation for Cirdan. He was one of the great elves, the wisest of the Sindar Elves and the elves in his time and also known as the oldest elf from the second age till the 4th age untill he left middle earth, he was also known as Nowë and his name Cirdan means Shipwright in elven.
He had one of the 3 rings made by Celebrimbor, namely Narya, which he later had passed on to Gandalf.
He was known for his skills at making boats and otherwise I dont believe he was that wel known, compared to Galadriel or Elrond of the 3 ring bearing elves.

    Haha, Rachel, you’re hilarious!
Cirdan is the third of the Elf Lords in Middle Earth. He cares for the Grey Havens. He was caretaker of the Elven ring Narya, which he gave to Gandalf upon his arrival to Middle Earth. Despite not really appearing in the movies, he plays a very important role… and yes… it is from the Grey Havens that the elves depart Middle Earth to go to Valinor

I think the scary thing with Eomer, is that you can use the Monarch as a deflect from yourself, and incentivizing the rest of the pod to attack someone else. I does not say "you" become the monarch, but "target player"

Oh man, you guys don't understand how cracked Robe of Stars is. It's maybe the best single-creature-protection that exists on a permanent, because it gets around literally EVERY kind of removal. Literally the only thing that gets around it is split second or a silence effect. It's a wincon in my Akiri/Ardenn deck.

  • @DuskyPredator

Robe of Stars is an allstar in Voltron decks in white! If you can stick it on a creature you already suited up with mana to activate it's probably GG's because your opponent's will need an impossible amount of interaction to remove it. Like even without ramp, if you have 8 lands with enough white to cast and activate it atleast 2 times, your opponent will need 3 removal spells on the same stack to get through before it phase's out. On top of that because of how phasing works, this also protects everything else attached.

    Haven't seen the video yet.
But i built smeagol with a landfall payoff sub theme. But main win con will be either reanimate from the graveyards and/or turning lands into creatures and/or commander damage.
Edit: oh smeagol doesn't appear in this episode.😅
I think the commander can be powerful. Every time a commander has ramp or card draw on it, it's gonna be strong.
Well maybe it's better that you haven't brewed it.😁

i made a gruul aristocrats once, did an angry omnath elemental tribal and put everything i could find that let me sac a creature to either draw cards or put a bigger creature on field. So omnath's landfall was kinda secondary to just playing stupid elementals :D, omnath was just to get that extra value 3 dmg bolt to face when I sac'ed an elemental to go find a bigger elemental.

For Initiative I usually just use the 1 oversized card and use dice (or if I’m at my place little miniatures) to represent the people going through the dungeon. Saves space and time. Like people make it sound so hard but it really isn’t any more complicated than keeping track of like a saga or class. Like it’s just anither card with a counter/die on ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love Gimli, Mournful Avenger! I wish they were coming out with a set of The Hobbit characters also so I could have an awesome dwarf deck!

Putting telepathy in Cirdan is ruining the deck XD. I like cirdan a lot. He is a perfect EDH commander. He brings laugh, joy, and surprise element. Thats what edh about.

Robe of starts is insane at protecting voltron commanders and their equipment/auras. I assume that is what's up with the price being so high
