Doc talks about solid stains vs. paint on the wood fence. Solid stains will generally offer you better protection when working with NEW raw wood. Paints have a tendency to sit more on top while the stain penetrates deeper.

    Pretty!
I'm a painter, and repainted old painted sections and newer unpainted sections over my fence after buying house. I used a semi transparent stain/sealer.
Repaint: best to use solid as it Will take two coats and finesse to recoat.
Fresh wood: looks amazing with semi transparent finish but touchups must be done according to product data.
I had golden red semi transparent stain and hated the color so we topped up the can with black pigment (roughly 4oz) at shirwin (top notch pigments is where the value is at)
After a few years you can tell, with a trained eye, the transition and aging of sealed faces and unsealed edges and joints where moisture is respirated.
Now redoing another section to fit new mower in backyard and I am hand painting(no spray) all lumber before building. Seal all surfaces prior to instal is only way to seal properly, otherwise you're just decorating. If you want the wood to outlast the stain, seal it properly.

Wife was listening as I watched. She said,” I like how he teaches the projects he does.” I replied that’s why I’ve subscribed when his backyard was empty and was cut with a ride on mower. Beard is looking good.

Good advice as usual. Can't wait until you do a video on "Should you paint over or whitewash your traditional brick house..." 😉

What grass seed do you recommend for my missing spots in Zone 7 in NJ ? I think my existing lawn is Kentukey Blue Grass - would you recommend sticking with kentukey blue? - I see you mixed some grass seeds in your backyard? Why?

Can I do solid stain over a fence I did with semi gloss stain a few years ago or should I pressure wash it first. And can I can I do a solid stain on fence that is old that I would have to pressure wash to clean it because it looks like it was never treated and just weathered really bad.

I need help. I built a cedar fence around my property. I stained it with a minwax color I liked and then covered it in polyurethane sealer multiple times over 5 years. Each time, it pealed and cracked. I wanted it to look dark and shiny. How can I fix this problem?
